Friday Box Office: New Year’s Eve Fizzles in First

What the saying again? You can fool some moviegoers all the time and all moviegoers some of the time, but you can’t fool all of them all the time? Something like that — maybe we should ask Warner Bros., Garry Marshall and all the stars stuffed so ruthlessly into New Year’s Eve , who recycled the model that earned the aromatic Valentine’s Day a $56 million opening weekend and found less than a third of that crowd ready to fall for it again. Still, it will be enough for first place on a pillow-soft weekend. Your Friday Box Office is here.

Bad news about Lindsay Lohan ‘s Playboy cover: It’s kinda cute! VIDEO: Artist Star Jean Dujardin Considers Uggie For Golden Globes

After some initial vexation from both director Michel Hazanavicius and star Jean Dujardin about The Artist ‘s wonder dog Uggie factoring in this year’s awards conversation , the duo seems to be warming ever so gradually to the notion that people liking Uggie is good for the movie. “When people say the dog is a good actor, it makes me happy,” Hazanavicius said in his latest interview . “I take it as a compliment for myself and the trainer.” Fair enough! And as for Dujardin? How about prime placement on the Golden Globes’ Web site praising his canine castmate?

In Honor of Jodie Foster’s Convicted Father, Let’s Name Her Worst Movie Parents

Happy Friday! Now that all the “real” news is out of the way, let’s focus on the things we really care about — namely, that Jodie Foster’s estranged 89-year-old father Lucius was sentenced to five years in jail for taking $130,000 in down payments for homes he never built. That’s naughty, Mr. Foster! Be in prison now. In honor of this sacred occasion, let’s reflect on Jodie Foster’s worst parents in film. I know my pick.

10 Harrowing Stills From the Set of New Year’s Eve

Are you really sure that you want to spend $10 this weekend on a ticket to see Garry Marshall’s bloated holiday rom-com New Year’s Eve ? Crazy Horse Trailer: Frederick Wiseman Goes NSFW For Nude Revue

Docmaker Frederick Wiseman is legendary for his epic verite studies of institutions and the people who create, inhabit and/or operate them. He and his Zipporah Films banner are not quite as well-known for scandalously marketing said studies. But that was all before he made Crazy Horse , his all-access, skin-baring glimpse behind the scenes of the world’s most famous nude cabaret.

First Look inside The Hammer Vault, the Coffee-Table Tribute to a Horror Institution

I’ve spent the last few days transfixed by The Hammer Vault , Marcus Hearn’s new tour through the history and archives of the infamous genre maestros at Hammer Films. It’s got everything — from the stories behind the celebrated creature features of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing to remembrances of the risible pseudo-PSA Never Take Sweets From a Stranger to a rummage through such unmade Hammer fare like When the Earth Cracked Open and the awesome Zeppelin vs Pterodactyls (seriously). And while its official January release date won’t necessarily help you for the holidays, it’s worth earmarking a line in the early 2012 budget for any horror, fantasy and B-movie devotees in your life. CORRECTION : The publisher writes to say that it will be out for the holidays! Hallelujah!
