Indonesian Island Rattle By Strong Earthquake

Associated Press — Indonesia hit by strong quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 has struck Indonesia’s North Maluku province. There have been no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warning has been issued. According to U.S. Geological Survey says Saturday’s quake was centered near Obi island at a depth of about 33 miles (53 kilometers). Area rattles by the earthquake is some 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometers) east of Jakarta. As per Indonesia’s Meteorology, Geophysics and Climate Agency, the quake measured 6.4 magnitude. Indonesia rests on a series of fault lines that make the archipelago nation one of the most earthquake-prone. A quake last year killed more than 1,000 people on Sumatra.
