Tornado Hits South-Western China And Kills At Least 26 People

A deadly storm struck Chongqing municipality in south-western China and killed at least 26 people. According to the report by the state new agency Xinhua, not less than 160 people were injured after a heavy rain, a hail storm, gales and a tornado hit two rural districts. Rescues were sent in Liangping and Dianjiang districts. Crops were destroyed and homes damaged when the storm hit the suburbs of the sprawling Chongqing municipality before dawn. In the local papers, at least 1,000 homes were reported destroyed and 10,000 were damaged. Most of the houses damaged were the older type of Chinese dwellings with tiled roofs. The most affected areas reported winds of more than 100km/h (62mph). Local government said that it will take then two days to restore power.
