Romaine Lettuce Recalled Due To E.Coli

Lettuce products sold in several states across the country, which includes Michigan, were recalled yesterday because of the finding of E.coli in an unopened bag of Freshway Foods shredded lettuce by the New York state Public Health Laboratory in Albany, New York. According to the press release by Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio, the voluntary recall of romaine lettuce products was sold to wholesalers, food service outlets and some in-store salad bars and delicatessens. The product was sold in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and many other states in the country. Freshway Foods is giving notice to the consumers not to eat any of their lettuce products bought from delis and salad bars. The company also advices the restaurants and retailers to dispose and not use any of the recalled products with labels “best if used by date” of May 12 or earlier. Here are some symptoms of E.coli infection: • None to mild diarrhea • Severe abdominal cramps • Diarrhea Serious complications may progress to kidney damage. As of now, there have been 19 confirmed cases of E.coli illnesses which were reported from Michigan, Ohio and New York. The evidence from preliminary investigations has traced the lettuce originated from one processing facility which is the Freshway Foods.
