An estimate of 60 people were injured after a Staten Island Ferry boat struck St. George Ferry Terminal on the Staten Island, New York this morning. At least one person was critically injured and experienced chest pains, 20 people received serious injuries and 15 people received minor injuries, according to fire sources. The boat’s hull was also breached above the water line. “I felt this big boom, the whole building was trembling,” said One witness, Antonina Rose. Fire and Police department officials are still assessing the damage and at this time are not prepared to say what severity of damage was caused by the collision. The NYPD says there were between 200 and 300 people on board. Emergency personnel are currently at the terminal and several people are laid out by the dock in stretchers. Other victims are seated in wheelchairs and were given oxygen. “It puts you in the mind of 9/11, when you see them carried off the boat on stretchers,” said a woman who was waiting at the ferry terminal. The Staten Island Ferry transports 20 million people a year between Staten Island and lower Manhattan.
