Alec Baldwin has been suspended by MSNBC for hurling homophobic slurs at a photographer earlier this week, and the actor has issued a real apology. After previously denying he used a gay slur , then claiming he didn’t know an obvious anti-gay epithet was anti-gay, he’s finally admitting what he did. Alec Baldwin Goes OFF on Reporters The 55-year-old says in a statement, “I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry.” Trying to rationalize, or at least explain his rage in context, he adds, “What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive.” Baldwin admits it was “unacceptable” to shout the phrase “c**ksucking f*g” while chasing a photographer on Thursday. In his apology, Alec concedes: “Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support.” Baldwin’s issued his apology after the controversy he ignited and MSNBC announced it was yanking his weekly show off the air tonight and next Friday. Anderson Cooper , among others, called him out for the ridiculous story he tried to spin, which he seems to have come to grips with now at least. Meanwhile, the actor exchanged heated words with multiple reporters yesterday (see above) and appeared to hit a parked car while he was driving off. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Miss Universe. Gabriela Isler earned the title tonight during an evening of colorful costumes and elegant gowns in Moscow’s Crocus City Hall. Gabriela Isler Wins Miss Universe 2013 The 25-year old because the seventh Venezuelan to ever take home this honor, receiving the crown after her name was announced by last year’s winner, Olivia Culpo . Thomas Roberts and Melanie Brown hosted the event, while the judges included an unusual mix of stars: Tara Lipinski, Anne V, Philiph Kirov, Carol Alt, Farouk Shami and Steven Tyler. The contest started with 87 women vying to be Miss Universe, though that number was quickly whittled to 16. Isler apparently earned major points for her answer to the question of her biggest fear and how she plans to overcome it, telling Tyler on stage and the thousands in attendance: “We should overcome all our fears and this in turn would make us stronger. As soon as we overcome our fears, we can face any challenge.” Hard to argue with those points, isn’t it? According to her bio on the Miss Universe website, Isler began taking flamenco dance lessons when she was a child. She also considers herself to be a “second mother” to her niece and her values include “being at home” and spending time with “the people she loves.” Her mother is her top role model. Amber Portwood is now a free woman after spending 17 months behind bars. Not surprisingly, that freedom comes as a sweet relief to the mother of one. The first thing she did after her release from prison Monday was reunite with her four-year-old daughter, Leah, with whom she became famous on Teen Mom . For both girls, it was a long-awaited and joyful moment … Amber Portwood was famously sentenced to five years in an Indiana prison for violating probation in her drug possession case in the middle of last year. She was released years ahead of schedule for good behavior and time served. Step one after getting out? Hit up a burger joint called Frisch’s Big Boy for some real food. Step two? Visit the little angel who’s been living with her dad. Amber’s ex-fiance, Gary Shirley, currently has full custody of the toddler. She’s planning to seek shared custody now that she’s out, and depending on the progress she’s made, and the status of things with Gary, she could get it. They’ve had issues, but this isn’t Charlie and Brooke we’re talking about. The troubled Teen Mom star, who had a series of substance abuse issues and brushes with the law before prison, says she is now 100 percent sober . But can she stay clean and keep it that way?
