Source: athima tongloom / Getty Cobb County is joining Gwinnett County as the latest Georgia jurisdiction to suspend enforcement of some misdemeanor marijuana violations. The reason? The state’s new hemp law. Gov. Brian Kemp legalized hemp farming in Georga. The hardy, versatile corp has been prompted by some as an economic development opportunity for rural areas. Hemp and marijuana are closely related and similar in smell and appearance, making it very difficult if not impossible for law enforcement to tell the difference between the two, according to officials. In light of that fact, Cobb County Police Chief Tim Cox announced that his department would make “a temporary procedural change” until a “remedy” is found. “After discussions with prosecutors, it appears that arresting someone for misdemeanor marijuana possession is not recommended,” Cox said in a statement. “As a result, effective immediately, any misdemeanor amounts of marijuana that an officer encounters will be confiscated and sent to the Evidence Unit to be destroyed. A criminal charge will not be made until a solution can be found to this dilemma.” Cobb Solicitor General Barry Morgan said there will be no wholesale dismissal of cases that are already on-going, but new cases brought after the hemp bill was signed this past May will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. “The GBI has told us they are working on finding a new test that could differentiate marijuana from hemp and cases will be held pending that,” Morgan said. Source: Star Tribune via Getty Images / Getty Sebastian Telfair Sentencing Turns Into A Scene Sebastian Telfair is heading to prison over the gun charges he racked up in the summer of 2017 and he’s not taking it gracefully at all. On Monday, Telfair was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison and a complete meltdown over the sentencing ensued. The father began crying, foaming at the mouth while screaming in defense of himself. According to Daily Mail, he yelled: ‘Please don’t take me from society right now,’ Telfair told the court. ‘I am 34. I can go play in China for six years and take care of my family. I’m waiting for my daughter right now to get her period. Real mental illness because I wasn’t around… She hasn’t even gotten her period yet.’ The ex-NBA star was accused by officers of possessing three loaded handguns, a submachine gun, extended magazines, ammunition, and a ballistic vest. The officers also claimed to have smelled the scent of marijuana coming from his vehicle and a “roach” or smoked piece of weed was said to be found in the car as well. Telfair denied being in possession of drugs during his outburst. ‘I’m being convicted on perjury. Your honor, I swear he took it out his pocket. Nobody was smoking right there. Nobody was smoking your honor. What my community gonna do? We’ve been doing basketball classes for 15 years. Don’t let them do this to me.” He was completely devastated from the clip. Source: Mirrorpix / Getty Colorado Springs Police Kill Teen De’Von Bailey Folks in the Colorado Springs community have gathered to demand justice for 19-year-old De’Von Bailey who was gunned down by police under suspicious circumstances to say the very least. Surveillance footage captures portions of the incident according to a report on CBS Denver . Although the beginning of De’Von’s interaction with police isn’t seen, we can see what appears to officers firing their guns at him while he is running away from them. There is no audio so it isn’t totally clear when the shots were fired. The department’s official stance on the incident is that De’Von was a robbery suspect, which is all well and good, but doesn’t exactly explain why FATAL FORCE was required. Even more quizzical is De’Von’s father’s reaction to his Black son’s death at the hands of a white state agent. “I don’t want to make this about Black Lives Matter or anything, because all of our lives matter. I know everyone says my son was killed by a white cop and he’s a black man in the community. And yes, those are the facts, but that’s not what this is about. This is about what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong. What’s wrong is my son was shot in the back by law enforcement,” he said. Uh, ok. CSPD says the body camera video that was captured by the officers during the shooting will be released to the public this week.
Welp. That sure got ugly in a hurry. On Tuesday night’s intense episode of Bachelor in Paradise, two contestants got into a legitimate fight — and here’s the truly shocking part… … neither of these contestants was Blake. Indeed, the polarizing sex fiend who has been at the center of most Season 6 installments to date mostly sat this one out last night. Hence why his face was left without a scratch on it at the end of the two hours. The same can’t be said for Jordan Kimball and Christian Estrada. How did this all begin? With Christian not wasting any time asking out Nicole Lopez-Alvar, as all viewers witnessed the instant chemisty between these two. What about Clay Harbor, who was concerned that the only woman in which he interested in was slipping away? Nicole believed Clay to be overly passive… yet he earned an opportunity to show his slightly more assertive side when Christian attempted to steal Nicole again after their date. The guys strangely held hands as they argued over who she should get to spend time with her, only for Nicole to eventually choose Clay, who admitted to being “jittery” after this confrontation. Got it? Following along so far? Okay then… it’s now time to talk about Jordan. He already had beef with Christian prior to Bachelor for Paradise. And then Christian set up a piñata for Nicole during the cocktail party and, after Christian told Clay to go away, Jordan felt an urge to stand up for his friend. Therefore, he tried to take down the piñata, resulting in an actual fight between him and Christian. “Don’t touch my pinata,” said Christian, who had only just been trying to convince Nicole he’s a sweet guy. He then grabbed Jordan, and Jordan grabbed him, and then that’s all we got because ABC got a “to be continued” in order to tease the fallout that will air next week. BOOOOO!!!!!! What the heck is up with this guy and all his previous connections to the females on the island?!? He and Hannah even kissed during the pre-show meetup, as Dylan expressed pain over the fact that Hannah hid this information from him. Tayshia Adams, meanwhile, confronted Hannah for withholding the Blake hangout from her, considering Blake Horstmann took her on a date during week one of Season 6 . Adams felt blindsided, which was the same feeling she and Hannah both experienced during Colton Underwood’s season. Hannah did not really appreciate the candid conversation, saying that Blake’s visit was “private” and she didn’t share the story out of respect for him. (Ummm… talk about IRONIC , huh?!?) Hannah thought the show was a better outlet to figure out their connection and later claimed Tayshia “mean girled” her. Also on avery busy episode: Dean Unglert caught Caelynn Miller-Keyes’ eye upon his arrival. However, she grew irritated upon accusing Kristina Schulman of “slut-shaming me across this entire beach.” Dean, who wanted to make up for his earlier sins, didn’t seem to mind her tears, asking her on a date despite the breakdown. Or maybe because of it. He and Caelynn ended up making out in the pool. Finally, Demi Burnett and Derek Peth seemed like the only strong, solid couple in all of Paradise…. but she was secretly conflicted because of the woman she had been dating in Los Angeles before the show. She later came out as sexually fluid to several people, but hesitated to tell Derek because she didn’t want the revelation to ruin their connection.
