The Inspiration To Create ‘Hair Love’ Came From The Lack Of Representation Of Black Father & Daughters

See the original post here:

Source: Sony Pictures Animation / Sony Pictures Animation When the visuals for Matthew A. Cherry’s Hair Love came across our computer screen, we rejoiced at imagery that showed a Black father and daughter in such a positive light. It was the representation we rarely see, even if it is a cartoon. MUST READ:  Animated Short Film ‘Hair Love’ Celebrates Black Father & Daughter Relationships Hair Love , an animated short film about a father who takes on the battle of doing his daughter’s hair, will premiere ahead of The Angry Birds 2 movie in theaters this weekend, broadcasting the image in front of millions of children and families. We caught up with director Matthew A. Cherry and producer Peter Ramsey, who both opened up about creating the animated short and why it is important for all to see. HelloBeautiful: What inspired you to create Hair Love? Matthew:  I was seeing a lot of viral videos of African-American dads doing their daughter’s hair hitting the timeline and I always like to share family friendly stuff like that. They were going extra viral, 100K retweets, and I would always share videos of moms interacting with their kids too and it would do OK but never as big as that. Obviously they were cute videos but I would come to learn later that part of it was that people weren’t used to seeing these images of African-American fathers doing these type of interactions with their kids (especially when the hair would be moving and breaking rubber bands and hitting dad in the eye). The idea of hair having a mind of its own was the linchpin that created this idea. HB: How does it feel to finally have your work being shown on such a massive platform after so much work to get it made and funded? Matthew:  It’s kind of surreal. This literally started with an idea through Kickstarter and for it to be a New York Times best selling book and now about to be in theaters across the country is pretty crazy. It’s definitely surreal. I just really hope that it inspires other creators. Sometimes i think we waste so much time reaching out to people thinking that they have to help us with our ideas and help move them forward and sometimes all you have to do is put it out there and take that risk and bet on yourself and trust that you can raise the money yourself and get the idea to other likeminded creatives that will be able to help you with it and bring it to market. HB: How was it for you to be involved in the short film and taking on the role as Executive Producer? How was that process for you?  Peter: It was great because from minute one, I believed in Matthew. I knew he was a really talented, energetic, inspiring guy in his work and in his life. I got to see the story he wanted to tell and it felt like it was right for the time, its got its heart in the right place, it’s going to really speak to people, all of those things made it really easy for me. Really I’ve just been a cheerleader. I’ve just been doing whatever I could, whether it’s advice or encouragement or whatever little thing I could offer to help move it down the line. It’s Matthew and a fantastic team of really talented people working on it that have really brought it to life. Matthew:  Yeah, Bruce Smith, Everett Downing, Stacey Newton, Monica Young, Karen Toliver. It’s a great team. Peter : It’s been a whole lot of work and whole lot of love What did you learn about fatherhood in the process?  Peter:  I have three kids. I’ve experienced a lot of moments like this. I think from this film specifically, the thing that jumps out at me is a lot of it is about people supporting each other in family. You can see everybody in this family in some way shape or form has supported each other. It’s about the idea of a father listening to his daughter and her communicating something that’s really important to her and him understanding why it’s so important and doing what he can to help her express who she is and what she feels. I think that’s a huge part of what drives this movie and makes it feel special. It might not be something you think about watching it but that’s what’s under the surface. That part of a parent/child relationship I think is something people need to pay a lot of attention to and think about that because even the smallest kid is still a real person deserving respect and being allowed to express themselves. Shannon Beador and Boyfriend: We’re Basically Already Co-Parents!

Recently, Shannon Beador has been totally inseparable from her businessman boyfriend, John Janssen. Their relationship has been looking serious. Now, as they get closer, they’re getting to know each other’s kids. Look at these sweet blended family photo. Shannon Beador and John Janssen are serving up Brady Bunch realness in this family photo that she shared on Instagram. “What an experience at my very first rap festival,” Shannon’s caption begins. “#Realstreetfest,” she tagged her post, adding that the “Kids had a ball.” She and John just tried to keep up. “Parents did their best to be hip,” Shannon concluded. It’s great to see these “cool parents” having a good time with all six children — three of hers and three of his. But it’s not really a surprise to see that everyone is so comfortable around each other. After all, earlier this month, Shannon affirmed to Us Weekly that she and John are “in a really good place”in their relationship. Shannon has been gushing that she has “never been happier.” You know what? After everything that David put her through, we can believe it. Shannon has also explained part of why she is so willing to trust him after having been hurt so deeply in the past. “My friends have known him for 30 years,” Shannon explained. When you’re hooking up with a friend-of-a-friend, you can sometimes (and only sometimes!) skip worrying about someone’s true intentions. “So,” Shannon reasoned. “I didn’t have to make sure he was there for the right reason” She’s a wealthy celebrity. That must be a huge weight off of her shoulders. Every time that she discusses her boyfriend, Shannon just sounds over the moon. “He’s just a great person,” she gushed about him. As we’ve seen, Shannon was a little horniness-motivated earlier in the year, but this time, it sounds like there’s a real emotional bond. “I have a great connection with him,” Shannon revealed. And then she dropped the L-word, saying: “I’m very much in love.” Shannon is now thoroughly divorced from David. So … should we be expecting wedding bells in her future? “I’m 55 years old,” Shannon noted earlier this month. “I haven’t wanted to rush into anything.” “I’ve got one shot left,” she expressed. “if I want to be realistic.” To be clear, plenty of people marry more than once after turning 55. Shannon explained: “I want to be certain this time that everything is gonna be good.” It’s good that, as head-over-heels in love as she is, she still has her feet planted firmly on the ground. Some folks — especially when they’re looking to rebound from a marriage — lose all sense of reason and repeat past mistakes. It sounds like Shannon has both the wisdom and the common sense to tread carefully, even when her heart is bursting with affection. Still, introducing someone to your kids (and yourself to his kids, and the kids to each other) is a huge step. If things carry on like this, we could be seeing a lot more of John in the future. Jed Wyatt Hopes Young Men Learn From His Cold-Hearted Idiocy

Jed Wyatt made a very small mistake during his time on The Bachelorette. He slept with a woman prior to leaving for the show … told this woman that he loved her… never broke up with her… and then never told Hannah Brown that this woman existed. When Brown learned the truth, two days after she accepted an engagement ring from Wyatt, she pulled the plug on this romance. Now, a few weeks after the dramatic Bachelorette finale aired and Wyatt was exposed as total liar and douche canoe, Jed says he just wants to be viewed as a role model. He says he hopes young men out there can learn from all the ways he went wrong. Talking late last week to friend Haley Ringo on the talk show LAnded Late Night, Wyatt was asked where he hopes to be in five months. Once all this controversial dust settles, does Wyatt have any hopes for where he’ll be? Mentally? Physically? Spiritually? “I want to be just an all-around better person,” he said in response, adding in greater detail: “I mean, leading into the show, I just really felt like I did know who I was, you know, but I learned so much from this. From the mistake, from the journey, the whole — I learned so much. “I want to apply it to my life. “Like I said on the podcast, I do want to focus on my spiritual and mental health. I want to be surrounded with my friends, do fun things, fish a lot, sing, the things that make me who I am. I want to do all of that.” That sounds great and everything It even sounds like Jed has maybe learned something throughout this ordeal. But here’s the thing; All he had to do was break things off withh is girlfriend back home before going on a show specifically designed to help him find a wife. That doesn’t seem like a lesson anyone needs to learn ; it should just be innate, you know? (Also: Do not bash this girlfriend several months later , dude.) Stepping up way high on a soapbox, Wyatt later said in this same interview that he wants others out there to NOT follow his example. He wants them to learn from his sins. “To other guys out there who – they’re just out having a good time, they’re young and they’re having fun… I would want them to kind of see and understand that you never know when you’re gonna meet your person,”  he said. Expressing regret over losing Hannah, he continued: “Could be today, could be tomorrow, could be ten years from now, but the person that you are leading into that means everything. I want to help other guys see that. “You just never know and there’s no better feeling than looking at someone and know that that is your person. You can mess that up by playing with other people’s emotions.” Hannah, of course, is actually single right now and recently admitted that she’s struggling . So if Jed were really serious, it could conceivably make a move to get back together with her. But we doubt she’d go for that, even if Wyatt did sound contrite on ABC’s After the Final Rose special. “First and foremost, from the bottom of my heart, I want you to know that I’m sorry,” he told her after getting dumped. “Apparently, they’ve already shown where I half apologized but, especially in hindsight, now that I’ve had time to review myself and my past and my behaviors towards not only you but other people, I fully see that I wasn’t the best that I could be. “And by lacking details to you, the things that you deserve, and the things that you want, it kind… ruined what we found here in a place that I never would have expected to find love like this with someone that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. “And I know that you felt the same and I’m sorry that I took away that experience from you. I’m sorry that this has hurt your family, your friends, Bachelor Nation, everyone, my family, I’m sorry. “I’m responsible for this. I will own up to it all day.” View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Stars: Where Are They Now?

Jenelle Evans: I’m Finally Launching My Makeup Line, Dude!

Well, let it not be said that we here at The Hollywood Gossip can't admit when we're wrong. For years, Jenelle Evans has been talking about her makeup line , and for years, we've been saying it'll probably never happen. Well, it looks like we were mistaken. Multiple sources are now indicating that Evans and her team have selected a launch date for JE Cosmetics. But will the products actually wind up in stores this time, or will this launch date quietly come and go, like so many others over the years? Here's what we know about the situation thus far: 1. Finally Yes, folks, it’s all happening! Jenelle Evans is finally launching her makeup line! But some fans are still skeptical that the products will actually be made available to the public. 2. Looking Back Jenelle, of course, has been teasing the release of her makeup line for YEARS now, and a pattern has emerged in her promotional efforts. 3. Makeup Shake-Ups It goes something like this: Jenelle announces a vague launch schedule (a certain month or season); said month or season comes and goes; Jenelle never explains why the launch didn’t happen. 4. But This Time … This time, however, things are somewhat different, in that Jenelle has announced a specific date for the release of her long-, long-awaited makeup line. 5. Start Getting In Line Now! According to announcements made on her Instagram page and some event called Miami Swim Week, JE Cosmetics will be available for purchase on September 19! 6. Farrah Abraham Rocks Red Carpet, Looks Like a Mannequin

This not exactly just in: Farrah Abraham had undergone a tremendous amount of plastic surgery. This has never exactly been a secret, as the reality star has talked often about going under the knife. But she appears less recognizable than almost ever before, confusing and scaring fans with her appearance in recent videos and in recent photos. The latest case in point? Farrah stopping by something called BeautyCon in Los Angeles and looking rather… unique on the red carpet. See what we mean below. 1. Rocking a Red Carpet Farrah and young Sophia Abraham attend Beautycon Los Angeles 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center on August 10, 2019. 2. Wait, She Brought Sophia? D’uh! Is this your first time ever meeting Farrah or something? She takes her kid everywhere. 3. Is This Healthy? Probably not. Yes, mother/daughter time is always a good thing, but should a very young woman really be made out this way and exposed to Hollywood in this way? 4. But Back to Farrah… We’re not the only ones taken aback by her appearance these days. Upon quick glance, we’d swear this is a mannequin. 5. What are Fans Saying? One user wrote on Reddit, “She looks like a completely different person.” 6. Added Another User: “I hope for Farrah it’s only Botox and it wears out over time.” And another: “Oh my gosh I wouldn’t have recognized Farrah!” View Slideshow

Todd Chrisley Indicted for Tax Evasion, Reality Show Gets the Axe

Forgive the most obvious pun in content writing history, but… … it turns out that Todd Chrisley does NOT actually know best. Or, perhaps the reality star does know best, if the subject at hand is how to try and avoid paying one’s taxes. This perfect segue is relevant because the veteran USA Network and his wife, Julie, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for tax evasion, as well as other financial crimes, according to local news station WSBTV. The indictment includes a dozen charges. Among the most serious? Wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. In a statement obtained by People Magazine on Tuesday, Todd’s lawyer, Bruce H. Morris and Stephen Friedberg, said the following: “The allegations contained in the indictment are based on complete falsehoods. The Chrisleys are innocent of all charges.” The embattled couple rose to fame as the patriarch and matriarch of Chrisley Knows Best, a reality show that basically just chronicles their lives — and the lives of their three kids — as very rich residents of Atlanta and then Nashville. It has run for seven seasons and recently debuted a spinoff called “Growing Up Chrisley,” starring a pair of these Chrisley children. According to Radar Online, however, executives have chosen not to sign Todd and Julie to new contracts, effectively canceling their long-running series. This website source claims producers have “decided to distance themselves as much as possible” from Todd and Juli,e as well as their children Savannah, Chase and Grayson. For the record, though, USA has not yet issued a statement to confirm this move. In an Instagram post Monday, a day before the 12 charges were filed, Todd insisted that he and his wife had done nothing wrong. He wrote a lengthy message that started as follows: “I’ve never talked about this publicly before, but there’s been a cloud hanging over Julie and me and our entire family for the past seven years. It all started back in 2012, when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time.” While Chrisley said that he wouldn’t “go into details,” he alleged that the case “involved all kinds of really bad stuff like creating phony documents, forging our signatures, and threatening other employees with violence if they said anything.” And he continued: We even discovered that he illegally bugged our home. Needless to say, we fired the guy and took him to court — and that’s when the real trouble started. To get revenge, he took a bunch of his phony documents to the U.S. Attorney’s office and told them we had committed all kinds of financial crimes, like tax evasion and bank fraud. That got their attention all right, but once we had a chance to explain who he was and what he’d done to us, they realized it was all a bunch of nonsense and they sent him on his way. After delving into a few other details about how this indictment came to be, Todd concluded: “We know we’ve done nothing wrong… “I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of. Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.” Shortly after Todd released this statement, daughter Savannah Chrisley left a supportive comment. “Thank you for being YOU! You have and always will be the glue that holds us all together. God has a much bigger plan for all of us and this is just part of it,” she wrote. We can’t say for sure whether or not Chrisley is guilty. But he’s just the latest wealthy reality star to get in trouble with the law over major financial issues. Both Abby Lee Miller of Dance Moms and Teresa Giudice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey spent time in jail for their roles in illegal monetary schemes.

13 TV Couples With Absolutely No Chemistry

Some TV couples suck. There , we said it.  Despite trying to push some couples to endgame status, some are very clearly not that into each other.  The Hollywood Gossip has rounded up 13 couples who have a grand total of zero chemistry.  Sorry … not sorry.    1. Kara and Mon-El – Supergirl Mon-El was one of the worst characters on Supergirl, and it was largely because the producers tried to put force them together. Mon-El was officially exiled from the series about a year after his debut. 2. Jackson and Maggie – Grey’s Anatomy Jackson and Maggie were believable as friends, but not so much as a couple. They need to give up on their relationship, or they run the risk of not being friends ever again. 3. Ray and Felicity – Arrow On a show that’s all about the relationship between Oliver and Felicity, Felicity’s short-lived relationship with Ray felt like a mere plot device to throw in some drama. There was a severe lack of chemistry between the characters. 4. George and Izzie – Grey’s Anatomy George pursued Izzie pretty much from the get-go on Grey’s Anatomy, but there was nothing there, and fans picked up on that. It’s just a shame that Shonda Rhimes did not. 5. Zelena and Hades – Once Upon a Time Just when it seemed like Zelena was on the road to becoming one of the good guys, she decided to embark on a relationship with Hades. It was … tedious. Two villains don’t make a right. 6. Bill and Sookie – True Blood Bill and Sookie were the central couple on this HBO series, but fans were shipping Sookie and Eric from the get-go. That shows you how crappy the OG pairing was. View Slideshow
