Camila Cabello is a beloved, successful musician. She’s also drop-dead gorgeous. She’s reportedly dating Shawn Mendes, even if some people think it’s a publicity stunt or just an effort to quash those gay rumors . Now, she’s being body-shamed, and she’s speaking out against it for the best reason possible. “I haven’t gone on social media AT ALL,” Camila’s powerful message begins. She explains that she did so “with the conscious intention of avoiding things that hurt my feelings.” “But for a second,” Camila admits. “I forgot.” She explains that she slipped up “while trying to find a pic to post about it being Havana’s 2 year anniversary.” “And,” Camila writes. “My eyes accidentally ran over a headline of people ‘body-shaming me.'” “Honestly,” Camila confesses. “First thing I felt was super insecure just imagining what these pictures must look like.” “Oh no! My cellulite!” she writes. “Oh no! I didn’t suck in my stomach.” “But then I was like … of course there are bad pictures,” Camila notes. “Of course there are bad angles.” “My body’s not made of f–king rock,” she acknowledges. “Or all muscle, for that matter.” Very true. Both of those would be alarming states of being. “But the saddest part of young girls growing up in an airbrushed world,” Camila writes. She continues: “Is they’re seeking a perfection that’s not real.” “I’m writing this for girls like my little sister,” Camila says. “Who are growing up on social media.” “They’re constantly seeing photoshopped, edited pictures and thinking that’s reality,” she laments. “And,” Camila notes. “Everyone’s eyes get used to seeing airbrushed skin, and suddenly they think THAT’S norm Her concern is that an entire generation of young women have a skewed view of the world thanks to digital editing tools. “It isn’t. It’s fake,” Camila says. “AND FAKE IS BECOMING THE NEW REAL.” “We have a completely unrealistic view of a woman’s body,” she correctly points out. “Girls,” Camila expresses. “Cellulite is normal. Fat is normal.” “It’s beautiful and natural,” she adds. She’s absolutely right! Camila wants to make it very clear that, no matter her concerns for young girls, body-shaming won’t impact her directly. “I won’t buy into the bulls–t today!!” Camila affirms. She adds: “Not today, satan.” Camila concludes: “I hope you don’t, either.” She punctuates that message with a red heart emoji. Let’s be super clear: no one deserves to be body-shamed under any circumstances. Someone else’s size or weight or proportions are just not our business in any way, shape, or form. (Honestly, I don’t know why that’s so confusing to people. Why do so many people feel entitled to police someone else’s flesh prison?) But you know that someone is grasping at straws if they’re body-shaming someone as conventionally attractive as Camila Cabello. She’s drop-dead gorgeous. The fact that she gets criticized should be enough to remind anyone and everyone that body-shaming is all made-up nonsense.
