Source: Jovanna Reyes / Photo Credit: Jovanna Reyes Name: Althea Smith IG: @iamthequeen87 Agency: Seeking Representation Claim to fame: Smith was chosen as one of five Hello Beautiful readers who graced the runway at this year’s first ever Curvy Noire event. She has also booked herself on segments on The Wendy Williams Show and Dr. OZ without an agent or a manager! “Be yourself everyone else is already taken,” the phrase emblazoned in neon ink on the business cards of model Althea Smith was meant to advocate for authenticity. What she didn’t know was the potential of her authenticity to be isolating. In an exclusive interview with Hello Beautiful the CurvyNoire model search winner and business owner recalled her previous experience model and advocated for the need for diversity on every runway. View this post on Instagram So this was my very first @thecurvycon and I must say, @curvychrisandra was right. It was a great event! . The goal is for me to be back next year WITH A BRAND! . Lemme just speak that into existence from now A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on Sep 12, 2019 at 5:26pm PDT Smith is a self-represented model who hustles on the daily to find out about upcoming gig, combing sites like Craigslist and sharing information with her friends in the business including former Model Monday subject Chrisandra Wells . “I reached out to agencies so I can get signed, right now I freelance so I get all my jobs my self.“ She has no problem looking for work on her own. A former fashion student at a popular technical college she picked up knowledge that she is able to apply in propelling her career to the next level. Some of that knowledge includes being able to see the   Despite having a ton of grassroots experience walking and fitting for designers like Michi Knitwear, Classic Royalty, Jibri Online, Elila Full Figure Jordan Taylor, Sasha Uzuri, and Etched Lingerie she still took it upon herself to enter Hello Beautiful’s search on the off chance that it might introduce her killer walk to a whole new audience. View this post on Instagram This weekend I had the opportunity to walk in the @curvynoire @madamenoire @hellobeautiful Style Summit! . In a world where society places so much emphasis on what the standard should be I put my foot down and celebrate MY SIZE! You can take it or leave it, but I love all of me and No society and No standard is gonna change that for me! A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on Sep 10, 2019 at 1:28pm PDT What does pose a problem for her is that after she shows up and shows out at a casting, the designer often does not bother to do the same on the day of the show. She described the experience of finding a designer who hired her has nothing appropriate for her to wear as “very disappointing,” “Especially if I cast for the show because obviously they like what they see so I would think they have something for me to wear.” View this post on Instagram Full Face using @blackopalbeauty Foundation and Concealers. A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on May 17, 2019 at 5:34pm PDT The last of preparation designers can show their plus-size models is not only infuriating, it has a financial impact because Smith could be on other jobs where she is valued. “First of all it’s a waste of my time,” she stated. “If I did my party showing up and providing you with my measurements ,you should have also done your part making sure that you have something that would work with me. So that’s how I feel disappointed.” CurvyNoire was unlike these shows as it was focused on celebrating women of all sizes and not tokenizing them including Smith who stalked the runway like a seasoned professional. “I liked that the designers had fun and fashionable pieces for us, so that was really cool and there was more than one designer that had pieces for us.” View this post on Instagram “Can my Pharoah find some way to entertain his Queen?” . And while you’re at it, go get a bucket to wash my feet A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on Jul 30, 2019 at 4:34pm PDT The show was unlike many others Smith had done in that it presented a variety of women who might have been told their looks were “too similar” to appear on other runways .   Often when chosen from a casting she searched for she would find she was the only one to appear with the “straight size models,” and in that triumph was a little frustration. “The power of modeling is so people can see that there’s more than one thing just like how they have the Victoria’s Secret show they could have twenty white girls that all look the same. Five of them look a little different, five of them could have red hair, you know what I’m saying it’s about the diversity of us too. A lot of the times they have one plus girl or one black girl. They want to put us in this category like that one token plus girl that one token black girl and I kind of want to be added to the roster to show that there’s more than one type of curvy girl.” View this post on Instagram Hakuna Matata A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on Jul 20, 2019 at 9:39am PDT In addition to pursuing a modeling career, and promoting fitness from the perspective of a curvy girl, Smith has several other business ventures she is investing into while working to make her dreams come true. “I do makeup, I sell jewelry, and I have a beverages company now.” That fledgling company Queen Beverages is a nod to her Caribbean heritage, something she values.   It offers, “Jamaican inspired beverages sorrel and rum punch.” She says, “we’ll probably be expanding to other things next year.” View this post on Instagram Take Pride in How Far You’ve Come. So Much Left to Conquer. A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on May 8, 2019 at 8:29am PDT She started the business after seeing a hole in the marketplace for authentic options. “Where I am in Mount Vernon, New York aloft of places don’t really have it. Or they have a particular brand and it doesn’t taste like the real thing so I just started making it myself.” View this post on Instagram Big Eyes. Big Smile. Big Heart. Big Hair. Big Body. Big Dreams. Big LIFE! . Everything BIG on my side! Have a good day y’all! A post shared by iamthequeen87 (@iamthequeen87) on May 22, 2019 at 8:38am PDT “It’s something that I do for my family. The sorrel is a traditional drink in Caribbean households, especially around the holidays but I like it so much that I drink it year round,” she explained.   Friends and family raved about the quality of her offerings and soon she was bottling it up. Her other streams of income are an expansion of her dreams not a pivot away from them. Walking the CuryNoire runway won’t be the last time you see Smith shine. “I feel like I haven’t gotten my hands on the right person so I feel like there’s still some hope. I hadn’t done a runway show in a while, and I like to show curvy girls can do it too.” DON’T MISS: MODEL MONDAY: Lana Ogilvie Went From The First Black Covergirl To Skincare CEO MODEL MONDAY: Tiffany’s Flame Wants To Shine A Light On All Bodies MODEL MONDAY: Iyanla Galletti Is A God In Her Own Right [ione_media_gallery src=”https://hellobeautiful.com” id=”3059309″ overlay=”true”]

Source: SOPA Images / Getty Blac Chyna’s New Man Seen Sucking Toes At Dinner Blac Chyna was spotted at dinner recently with a mysterious new boo who isn’t the least bit shy about PDA. According to TMZ , Chyna and her man were dining in suburban Los Angeles when photogs spotted him with a mouth full of her thottie toes at the dinner table! We can’t even begin to imagine what a Blac Chyna foot tastes like but we’re pretty sure it ain’t lemon beurre blanc sauce. For Chyna’s sake we hope this relationship goes (and ends) better than her last try at love with Soulja Boy. If you remember, when they shut down he pettily and slut-shamedly tweeted “just wanted to see what the p***y felt like.” Wonder who foot the bill for this date? *rimshot*

Swirlitics: Jeanie Mai Says She’s In A “Interresponsible” Relationship With Jeezy As They Learn Each Other’s Cultures

Source: Leon Bennett / Getty Deep Swirl: Jeannie Mai Talks Jeezy Learning Her Culture And Her Learning His History Interracial relationships are more than just “looking good” together and Jeannie Mai knows this. While visiting Big Boy’s Neighborhood  with the ladies of  T he Real ,  Jeannie addressed folks critical of her new romance. After comments she made about her taste for “dark meat” spread, the host tried to sort out why she got so much heat for it. “That’s something I’m still kind of understanding because I don’t see it. Obviously when you marry you marry for love. Even in my past marriage, I married for love. Feelings change, people grow apart, so that happened. For me, it’s just focusing on what is love for two people, two human beings? So that part is kind of a responsibility that we’re just going to have to demonstrate through our relationship.” Jeannie acknowledges that her role on hern Jeezy relationship is much bigger than optics. It’s about cultures coming together. “I think when you look at the word ‘interracial,’ you should really look at it as ‘interresponsible.’ It is a responsibility when you date outside of your race to learn about that culture because not everybody’s experience is the same,” she said. “When he steps into my house he takes off his shoes, he knows how Vietnamese people do it. When I met him I was like, ‘I want to go to Hawkinsville [Georgia]. Show me exactly this yellow house that you grew up in, and how did you start your business and how did you understand how to make a dollar. I actually loved it.” People the whole interview below.

Man Drowns While Proposing To His Girlfriend Underwater [VIDEO]

Excerpt from:

A Louisiana man recently drowned during a beautiful vacation in Tanzania as he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, who never even got the chance to give him her answer. Kenesha Antoine posted a heartbreaking Facebook post on earlier this week that her boyfriend, Steven Weber Jr., died while he popped the big question underwater. “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you, but everything I love about you I love more every day,” it reads. Weber can then be seen in video flipping the note over to show the other side — “Will you marry me?” the sign asks — before pulling out a ring box and flipping it open. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! See the original post here:

Source: Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.com / WENN Billy Porter inched one step closer to capturing the elusive EGOT quarter of awards, this after making history during last night’s Emmy Awards. The Pose star is the first openly gay Black man to win the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award. Porter, 50, has emerged as one of the brightest star’s for FX’s hit series, Pose , which boasts the largest ensemble of transgender and LGBTQ and actors across any television show in its category. This follows Porter’s 2013 Tony Award win for the Broadway play Kinky Boots and his 2014 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for Kinky Boots as well. During his acceptance speech, Porter quoted the late writer James Baldwin who also combated the stigma of being a Black gay creative during a time where criticism of one’s sexual orientation was barely tolerated by many. “James Baldwin said “Took many years of vomiting up all the filth that I had been taught about myself, and halfway believed, before I could walk around this Earth like I had the right to be here”,” Porter said in his speech. “I have the right, you have the right, we all have the right!” As it has been noted in times past, Porter was indeed stylish per usual. Watch the acceptance speech below. “Please don't ever stop telling the truth.” – @theebillyporter The category is LOVE. Can we all just take the time this morning to acknowledge Billy Porter and congratulate him on his Emmy win last night? Naw, Bul Thurl: Baby-Saving Eagles Fan Sends Shady Shot At Butter-Fingered Baller Nelson Agholor

Source: Elsa / Getty Eagles Fan Shades Player After Saving Babies “Unlike Agholor” Listen, the one thing you should about people from Philadelphia is that they keep it a bean. No sugar-coating, no niceties, no beating-around-the-bush. Just raw, uncut realness . Even when describing a traumatic life-and-death event, Philly residents only know how to keep it real. Enter the unidentified hero in the now-viral video below. He and his buls were doing God’s work as they help rescue several small babies from a burning house. During a news interview, the man described his efforts and managed to squeeze in a well-played shot at Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor who caught a case of the dropsies last week against the Atlanta Falcons and yesterday against the Detroit Lions… The most Philly soundbite goes to this guy who helped catch children thrown from a window during a fire. pic.twitter.com/3rH69gU2fL — Steve Lindsay CBS (@SteveLindsayCBS) September 23, 2019 Not all heroes wear capes.
