In an interview with Paris Match, Naomi revealed that she was refused entry to a hotel in the south of France because she is black. The model went on to say that she and a black friend were blocked from entering the hotel–which she decided not to name–despite having an invitation to an event that was taking place there. Campbell recalled what happened, saying that door staff told them the place was full, even though they saw other people being allowed access at the same time. She called the incident “revolting” and said the encounter inspired her to “continue to express myself and make myself heard”. Learning from the encounter, Naomi said she is always happy to help the new generation of fashion models, advising them never to let anyone take away their own self-esteem. When asked about diversity in the industry, she told the magazine that she always wanted everyone to be treated fairly and the fight for diversity continued. The supermodel shared what happened at the hotel in an effort to make an example out of the situation. “I was recently in a town in the south of France, while the Cannes film festival was going on, where I was invited to take part in an event in a hotel that will remain nameless,” she said. “They did not want to let us come in, my friend and me, because of the color of our skin. This guy at the door made out that the place was full. But he was letting other people in.” When asked later if diversity had improved in the fashion industry over the past few years, she said she would “like to be able to say so”, citing the model Bethann Hardison as a pioneer. “I have always tried to remain an optimist on this issue,” She said. “I tell [new models] never to let anyone underestimate their value. You have to be strong and brave in this job and to surround yourself with your family and a good agent.” Even when faced with moments of prejudice and racism, Naomi keeps her composure by not blasting their name all over the internet. A true class act.

LaTisha doesn’t allow her husband Marsau to get in her way as she puts her homemaker days behind to put her real estate license to good use. Kimberlee is forced to reconcile with the challenges of a blended family as she deals with Maurice’s son and ex-wife’s potential move to Huntsville. We hope the couples can work through it!
Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Masin Elije Claims Dwight Howard & Others Threatened His Life; Player Says He’s Never Met Him A judge has nixed NBA player Dwight Howard’s bid to dismiss a homosexual social media star’s lawsuit that alleges Howard threatened him over speaking out about their alleged relationship. We exclusively revealed that earlier this year that Masin Elije sued Howard for assault, infliction of emotional distress and more, alleging Howard and his associates had been threatening his life because he wouldn’t agree to sign paperwork barring him from speaking out about their alleged relationship. But Howard countersued the “Industry Hoe” author for slander, invasion of privacy and abusive litigation and demanded the suit be thrown out, as well as $10 million in damages. Howard said in court papers that he never met Elije and his legal claims weren’t valid. He also said that any injuries the YouTube star suffered was due to his own negligence. However, according to court records obtained by BOSSIP, the judge came back and sided with Elije, and denied Howard’s request for the man’s suit to be tossed. The case is now ongoing, although no trial date has been set. We reached out Elije’s attorney for comment. Howard’s lawyer declined to comment.
A Black University of Alabama at Birmingham student says she was threatened with the loss of her job before the school’s human resources office intervened, after she wore a scarf that was not to her employers liking. Felicia Layton, a 21-year-old junior studying kinesiology claim her employers at one of the university’s day care centers sent her home on Thursday because she violated the workplace dress code policy by tying a headscarf around her ponytail, according to AL.com . “APPARENTLY THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I WILL BE FIRED IF SOMETHING [ISN’T] DONE TO IT (flat iron it) BY TOMORROW!,” Layton wrote in a now viral Facebook post. “I [won’t] say much because [I’m] not even the type to argue with no one about how things that are basically RACIST but being labeled as something else!” Layton has worked at the daycare since 2017 and went on to say that she was tired from the daily requirements it takes to maintain her 4c hair texture which requires a lot of effort to upkeep. “I HAVE THE MOST 4C hair i have ever seen and baby I can barely put it in a ponytail so if this isnt well groomed and professional enou gh to be at a DAYCARE idk what is! My students and their parents love me & If its a problem with management that my 4c hair to be flatiron or ‘well groomed’ this is not where my hard work needs to be,” she continued. Email Submit In an interview with the school’s newspaper Layton said she was also frustrated over what is deemed as acceptable in the workplace when it comes to Black hairstyles versus those of other races. “I feel like the rule is belittling and racist,” she said. “First of all, it’s not ok because the rule was made only for a specific group of people. You’re not going to tell a Caucasian person not to wear a headwrap to work.” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). After word of the post went viral, Layton updated it to say that the university’s Human Resources office contacted her to resolve the issue. According to AL.com, the dress code violation was no longer in practice. “We are aware of this post and are looking into it now to gather facts,” Paulette Dilworth, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, wrote in a statement obtained by AL.com. “We take concerns like these seriously and will take appropriate action based on our findings. As an institution, UAB is committed to advancing diversity as a core value and to promoting an inclusive campus with respect and dignity for our faculty, staff and students.” As we know Black women and men are often unfairly policed over wearing their hair the way it grows out of their head due to respectability politics which are birthed in the global obsession over European beauty standards. A number of states including California and New York have introduced and passed anti-discrimination legislation pertaining to natural hairstyles. It may be time for Alabama to get on board as well. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). The officer, who goes by “DJ”, ordered a McChicken at the restaurant before starting his shift at Marion County Jail in Indianapolis. He put his sandwich in a fridge for safekeeping until he got off. When he opened it up to devour seven hours later, DJ discovered the missing chunk from his meal and instantly became convinced he had been targeted by the restaurant staff because of his uniform. “I know I didn’t eat it,” he told the WTHR local TV station. “No one else was around…I said, ‘You know what? I am going to the McDonald’s to see if they can get that taken care of. I just wanted to find out who the person was and they deal with that person in an appropriate way.” Managers at the Morris Street location checked the schedule to see who was preparing the food when he placed his order, but ultimately, they found no evidence to back up the officer’s claims that one of their employees tampered with the food. It wasn’t until more than a week later that the truth was revealed, when the Marion County Sheriff’s Office announced that the mystery biter was indeed its own officer, DJ. “The investigation has determined that McDonald’s restaurant staff in no way tampered with the employee’s food,” the agency said in a statement on Friday. “The employee took a bite out of the sandwich upon starting his shift at the Marion County Jail, then placed it in the refrigerator in a break room. He returned nearly seven hours later having forgotten that he had previously bitten the sandwich. He wrongly concluded that a McDonald’s restaurant employee had tampered with his food because he is a law enforcement officer.” We all know what it’s like to look forward to eating something all day, only to open the fridge and find out someone feasted on our food–but jumping to the conclusion that an employee at the restaurant did it to sabotage you is a little much. The officer ended up formally apologizing to McDonald’s for his error. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing!
