According to Rolling Stone , Shawn Carter is now the Chief Brand Strategist of a cannabis company called Caliva. It is reported that he will help the company creative decisions, outreach efforts, strategy and also a major effort to rectify the issues surrounding social justice and legalization. “Anything I do, I want to do correctly and at the highest level,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “With all the potential in the cannabis industry, Caliva’s expertise and ethos make them the best partners for this endeavor. We want to create something amazing, have fun in the process, do good and bring people along the way.” We’re just gonna go ahead and assume that when Jay said “highest level” it was no pun intended. “For Jay-Z to seek out Caliva as a partner is humbling and confirms our mission of being the most trusted name in cannabis,” says Caliva CEO, Dennis O’Malley. “To find that we were in complete alignment around our values and ethos was just a home run. We believe this partnership is unparalleled in this or any business and we could not be more pleased to be working with him and have him as our Chief Brand Strategist.” The social justice angle of cannabis is one that falls in line with Jay’s foray into activism as he’s already executive produced the Kalief Browder film and played a significant part in helping Meek Mill get released from prison. Source: Hadas / Interscope Mereba Releases “Sandstorm Video” We love “Sandstorm” by Mereba and are excited to post the powerful visual for her latest single “Sandstorm.” The piece paints a cohesive picture of love and love lost as Mereba and Dreamville artist, J.I.D, conjure up an understated chemistry. Directed by Dawit N.M. and produced by COUSCOUS, the visual for “Sandstorm” pairs breathtaking shots with Mereba’s poetry and lyrics making for an intense experience worthy of multiple viewings. Mereba has worked with Dawit N.M. on a number of videos, including “Planet U” and the visual EP for her stellar debut album, The Jungle is the Only Way Out. The 13-track project was released earlier this year and each song produced/co-produced by Mereba, with the exception of the 9th Wonder produced, “Black Truck.” Source: Hadas / Interscope “In this video we wanted to play with the idea of reflection. Both literally with the use of glass/mirrors to tell the story of time passing, and metaphorically too as me and J.I.D “reflect” on relationships that ended,” says Mereba. Mereba’s duet with J.I.D marks yet another Dreamville collaboration, as Mereba recently joined J.I.D during the North American leg of his Catch Me if You Can tour. She was then tapped for Dreamville’s highly anticipated Revenge of the Dreamers III album and can be heard on the track “PTSD” alongside Omen, Deante Hitchock & St. Beauty. Mereba has continued to impress fans and critics, proving herself as a multifaceted artist whose talents include singing, rapping, songwriting, production and instrumentation. HYPEBEAST notably described the rising star as “a powerful R&B artist with songwriting ability beyond her years.” Mereba’s ‘The Jungle Is The Only Way Out’ Album is available HERE
Source: Jim Spellman / Getty Karlie Redd may have been on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta since its inception in 2012, but it’s a rarity for fans to see her daughter, Jasmine. If you blinked, you may have missed Jasmine making her debut on the show back in 2015 where she spoke with her mother about the star’s relationship drama. Karlie also posted a photo of her daughter last January, but those types of images from the star are few and far between. Since then though, Karlie has kept her out of the spotlight, and Jasmine has also chosen to steer clear from it as well, making her Instagram private. However, on Monday, Karlie’s daughter came out of hiding to appear on the latest episode of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta to set folks straight for talking poorly about her mother. Fans of the show were giddy about her appearance because the rare sightings of Jasmine made her something like Bigfoot to LHHATL viewers, who get a glimpse at the rest of the cast’s kids on a regular basis. While we first met her as a fresh-faced beauty coming home from college to visit with her mom years ago, this time around, Jasmine is older, she’s working, wearing a full face of makeup, and these days, she’s looking exactly like her mother. Looking exactly like the star doesn’t always come with perks though, because she told Karlie that she was taking a break from school because people had been confronting her with rumors about her mom: When your mom is reality TV royalty, it doesn’t always come with its perks! #LHHATL pic.twitter.com/HDmWpArxrh — Love & Hip Hop (@loveandhiphop) July 9, 2019 In a later clip, which was quite melodramatic if we’re being honest, Karlie and Jasmine attend a mother-daughter event put on by Rasheeda Frost. While there, the women encounter Karlie’s former friend, Pooh, as well as her daughter. If you’ve been tuning in this season, you know Pooh has been running around telling everyone that Karlie participated in a threesome with her and her husband, Hiram, a story Karlie denies. Unfortunately, Karlie put her daughter in the middle of that situation by using the event as an opportunity to try and clear her name (wrong place, wrong time), and when Pooh tried to call her out, Jasmine let everyone know she was willing to go to war for her mom: It was a lot, obviously. Still, viewers were glad to see Jasmine had grown into such a beautiful young lady, a doppleganger for her mother, as well as a rider for her. So, just imagine if you’re having a great experience with someone and then you’re hearing all this stuff it’s like, ‘Why didn’t you show them what you showed me?’ That’s the feeling I had.” “I hated talking about it because I felt like, man, you were a friend to me but then I’m seeing you as a foe to others and I’m hurt for them,” she continued. “How do I feel about it? How do I put myself in this position now? It was very sad. I think that anybody that loved him as a person probably feels that way. That’s not something you want to hear about somebody that you cared for.” Sunday’s appearance was the second time Palmer publicly spoke on the allegations revealed in the docu-series. After the series aired, Palmer took to Instagram to express the hurt and sadness she felt knowing that so many victims had come to forward to share their stories of abuse. Kelly and I have spent the last hour crying. As a student of R. Kelly’s for the time I was and having been around his light and understanding the obstacles he overcame as a child to actually be birthed into the musical genius he is today… All to put others through the same darkness he was running from is the most disheartening thing to accept. Many people experience hardships and do not allow themselves to find freedom through their passion enough to shine a light. R. Kelly received that grace from God. God blessed him to vindicate his childhood shortcomings and yet still he has slapped God in the face by his actions towards these women. I am hurt and saddened because he could have been a blessing to these women but instead he repeatedly took advantage and that I can not accept. I will stand by my sisters because that’s simply what’s right and what I hope discontinues this behavior in anyone. We have to be good to eachother, not all of us accept the light but those of us that do must be responsible!!!! We can not take advantage of each other or accept when someone else does. Source: Courtesy FX Networks / FX Networks Snowfall Cast Talks Significance Of John Singleton’s Hit Crime Series We are still mourning the loss of beloved director, producer, and screenwriter John Singleton . But, as difficult as it is for each one of us, we can only imagine how deeply his friends, family, and colleagues have been affected. Prior to their NYC screening of the season 3 premiere episode, the Snowfall cast talked to Bossip about what Singleton meant to each one of them and what it’s been like to carry on with his legacy. For those who don’t watch, Snowfall is Singleton’s creation… a way to tell the truth about how crack really became a widespread epidemic in the Black community. Damson Idris , who plays kingpin Franklin Saint on the hit FX series, tells Bossip Singleton’s presence is still very much felt on set. “We have a chair on set with John’s name on it, so he’s still with us,” he reveals. “For me personally, he was my big brother. He was like my sensei. He taught me so many codes. The best thing about John was that he empowered everyone around him. So even in his absence, which isn’t an absence, we’re able to stay confident, carry on his vision, keep his authenticity and make him proud. If he saw this whole season, he would’ve been proud. That’s what lets me sleep at night.” Angela Lewis adds that though they play a family on-screen, they’ve also become family off-screen and continue to face the loss of their mentor and friend together. “I think it would’ve been harder to not go on,” Lewis said. “He would have been disappointed. We lift each other up, we have each other’s backs, we are such a family. We cry together, we laugh together, we remember him together, we honor him together, and to not continue would have been awful.” Michael Hyatt plays Franklin Saint’s mom on the crime series and she shook the room when she chimed in. “We have all been injected with John’s guidance, his vision, his greatness,” Hyatt began. “And, what he left us with (as everybody is saying) is a rope that started with him and has just weaved through all of us. What we have developed is a oneness, I think. John started his dream to give voice to the voiceless, to tell the stories that were not being told in the truthful manner that they deserved to be told — and he has injected all of us with that. It is our duty, our responsibility to protect this show and protect John and to continue that task of protecting Cissy, Louie, Jerome, and Franklin and all of the stories that we’re telling… because we understand that we are telling the stories of our ancestors, our cousins, our sisters, our brothers, our mothers, and fathers. It’s not just a job, we are conduits of truth, telling the story to many people who don’t understand it. I was a kid at Howard, or even living in NY… I didn’t know what the f*ck those pipe things were on the floor. I didn’t know any of this sh*t — what consciousness did I have? I am learning a part of my community. If that’s my story, how many of US understand what was happening to us? How many of US believe the stories that we saw on the news… of these ‘wayward people who don’t have a future and they’re doing crack?’ These are the things that we were fed, but thankfully, with someone like John — who says ‘no, that is not what was happening. Let me tell you what was happening’ — now our children, we all have an understanding of what really the f*ck was going on. And, we will take this knowledge into the future, where there will be some other drama where we’re being manipulated. This will allow us to think: ‘Wait a second. What they’re feeding me on television, I don’t have to eat. Because I know there’s another truth.’ That’s what John has done.” Season 3 of Snowfall premieres tomorrow at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Tune in.

R ick James ‘ daughter apparently knows how to party and her neighbors aren’t happy. They complained after a house party, according to them, had drugs, alcohol and semi-nudity. See Also: Outrageous! Figurines Of White Cherub Crushing Head Of Black Angel Removed From Dollar Store Ty James reportedly brought property for $2 million and had a housewarming party that upset her new neighbors. They called the police and complained of drugs, alcohol, semi-nudity and up to a thousand people showing up. WSB-TV reports one resident named Amy Baker complained, “We called the police and told them there were people walking through the neighborhood with open containers of alcohol and with drugs. And they told us they could not do anything about that. They said, ‘We have to see it.’” Another resident named Katherine Schendel said, “There was a lot of seminudity and drugs and alcohol out in the streets. There were cars parked all up and down our street. On both sides of our street, potentially blocking emergency vehicles from getting through.” She also claimed to have “checked and the county does not show a permit for a public event at the house.” The next party is allegedly scheduled for Labor Day, which they want to stop. “We’re concerned about our property values. They don’t need to be walking down the middle of the street in thongs and smoking dope,” Schendel said. Gwinnett police are meeting with residents and looking into their complaints. 11 Alive reports, “The owner of the property, Ty James, said no one was arrested, and there was no reason to call police. She said no one was charged to attend, and the party was open to the public, so they neighbors should have stopped by. ” James did not want to go on camera but maintained her guests were respectful.
