Robert Forster, the beloved actor whose career enjoyed an unexpected revival after he starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, died of brain cancer at his home in Los Angeles on Friday. He was 78 years old. The sad news was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by Forster’s publicist. Forster’s passing came just hours after his final performance, as he played a role in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which was released on Netflix on October 11. The veteran star also made a final appearance in Last Man Standing last year, portraying the father of Tim Allen’s character. “A truly gifted actor and one of the loveliest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. RIP Robert,” wrote Last Man Standing actress Nancy Travis on Twitter Friday in response to the sad development. Forster appeared on 10 episodes of this ABC sitcom. Still, he was best known for his work on the big screen. He made his film debut opposite Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor in John Huston’s Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967) and then received rave reviews as an ethically challenged cameraman in Haskell Wexler’s ultra-realistic Medium Cool (1969). Forster was a successful box office draw for over a decade — but his career than took a dip. By the early 1990s, the actor was down to supporting roles in such low-budget efforts as Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence, Body Chemistry 3: Point of Seduction and Scanner Cop II… while supplementing his income with speaking engagements. Until Tarantino entered the picture, that is. In 1997, Tarantino directed Forster to an Oscar-nominated performance in Jackie Brown. Filmmaker David Lynch later cast him as a detective in Mulholland Drive — and Forster would go on to work with Lynch again in 2017, playing Sheriff Frank Truman in Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival. “I went 21 months without a job. I had four kids, I took any job I could get,” Forster told the Chicago Tribune in 2018, adding: “My career went like this for five years and then like that for 27. “Every time it reached a lower level I thought I could tolerate, it dropped some more, and then some more. Near the end I had no agent, no manager, no lawyer, no nothing. I was taking whatever fell through the cracks.” Forster’s other credits over the recent years have included Firewall, Me, Myself and Irene, Lucky Number Slevin and Olympus Has Fallen. Forster said that when his career was at its lowest ebb, he had what he called an “epiphany.” “It was the simple one,” he said, “when you realize, ‘You know what? You’re not dead yet, Bob. You can win it in the late innings. You’ve still got the late innings, but you can’t quit. Never quit.'” He is survived by his third wife, Evie, and children Elizabeth, Katherine, Maeghen and Robert. May Robert Forster rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam

Source: Westend61 / Getty Black High School Student Exposes White Peers Racist Online Group Chat 14-year-old Cenayia Edwards is a freshman at East Wake High School in Wendell, N.C. and she is not here for white people ‘s clandestine bigotry. According to ABC11 , Cenayia actually posed as a white student in order to gain access to a violently racist group chat that her peers were participating in online. One of the freshman’s white friends put her on to the chat and Cenayia quickly devised a plan to expose all of them for their cowardly and dangerous behavior. When 14-year old Cannaya found out about the racist group chat some of her Wake County classmates were using, she infiltrated it, then she exposed it. Now, her parents want make sure she’s safe at school. #abc11 pic.twitter.com/Oe76F1DHgK — Joel Brown (@JoelBrownABC11) October 5, 2019 Cenayia changed her avatar to a white face. When she was allowed access to the group chat, she says she was horrified. The chat was full of messages like “Pullin triggers and shootin n——,”and “Kill n—– babies.” One person wrote, “#bring slavery back.” Another person debated whether their screen name should be “Black slayer.” And when Cenayia called out her classmates for the racist talk, one person replied with a cartoon meme of a penguin with a gun along with the words, “Shut up n—–.” The parents notified the school of the activity but thus far they are very unsatisfied with the “investigation” that has taken place. So far, very little, if any, consequences have been doled out and if there have been, the school will not say what those consequences are. A deer-in-headlights-lookin’ Stacey Alston, the school’s principal, did, however, release this lil’ video… “Meaningful dialogue”??? Sir, these soup cookies are talkin’ about MURDERING BLACK PEOPLE. Ain’t no muthaf***in’ talkin’. It’s hands and feet. All these alabaster a$$holes need to be expelled.

B lack artists often find themselves fighting for a seat at the table when it comes to having their work featured in exhibitions at renowned art institutions. According to a study conducted by Art News , less than three percent of museum acquisitions over the past ten years have been pieces created by African American artists. Despite the exclusion from mainstream galleries and museums, they are forging paths of their own, carving out spaces where they can share their artistry with the world, and using their work as a means for social and political activism. Bronx-bred visual artist and actor Tyson Hall is one of the individuals a part of a modern-day renaissance of Black artists who are reclaiming their space in the art industry and utilizing their work to uplift and empower their communities. Hall says his passion for activism runs deep. He was born in Washington Heights, New York across the street from the Audubon Ballroom where civil rights leader Malcolm X was murdered. The activist’s impact would later influence pieces of Hall’s work that echoed his messages of Black unity and the power of Black economics; pieces that were created decades after Malcolm X’s untimely death but are still relevant with today’s social and political climate. Hall—who came of age in the Bronx during the birth of hip-hop—has also pulled inspiration from the music genre throughout his career. His first art form was graffiti and then he decided to transition his canvases from MTA trains to sketchbooks. Hall was inspired by the political messages behind the music from groups like Public Enemy and how music mogul Sean Combs remixed soulful tracks from legends like James Brown to introduce that era of music to a new generation. He says incorporating the teachings of Black leaders from the past in his artwork to uplift and inspire the next generation of creatives is something that he strives to do through his work. It was the 1996 film Basquiat that drew him closer to the idea of using art as a form of activism. “Throughout my career, I’ve taken a lot of what our ancestors have said and done and remixed those voices through visual artistic expression,” Hall told NewsOne. “I did a series titled Buy Black where one piece, in particular, had four panels that read “Buy Black” and as you go down each panel it starts to disseminate. It was representative of the short life span of a dollar within the Black community and how we should do more to support each other.” Despite the powerful messages displayed through his art, Hall says one of the most challenging parts of being a Black artist is getting his work placed in galleries and museums. Instead of waiting for these art institutions to give him an opportunity, Hall has developed his own and has created spaces for his work. His pieces are on the walls at Harlem restaurants including Angel of Harlem and Corner Social and he has donated his work for auction to charities that include The Jackie Robinson Foundation, Abyssinian Baptist Church, the MOCADA Museum, and the ARRC. Going beyond the canvas, Hall uses acting as a form of artistry. His acting credits include Paid in Full , American Gangster , and Godfather of Harlem . He does motivational speaking as an avenue to empower inner-city children to use art as a means for change. He’s also developing a platform called SOL (Solidifying Our Legacy) Media Plus which is dedicated to educating, empowering, and connecting the creative community. As far as his advice for emerging Black artists, he says to “lock in and identify with your purpose as an artist to push forward.” SEE ALSO: Issa Rae Invests In Black Woman-Led Tech Startup Diddy Donates $1M To Fund New Bronx Charter School [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3888948″ overlay=”true”]
