He opened up about the disease on an episode of  Red Table Talk , saying that he wants people not to treat him like a “f*ckin’ cancer patient”. “I have a liver disease, where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself,” he said. “Reality is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. You might know Halle from her group with her sister Chloe x Halle, or maybe you’ve seen her staring on Grown-ish with Yara Shahidi . Whether you’ve been a fan of Halle for a while now or this casting decision was your first time hearing of her, the second you hear her angelic singing voice there’s no doubt that she is absolutely perfect to portray the famous mermaid. Of course, racists with nothing better to do were up in arms over this decision, adopting the hashtag  #NotMyAriel and complaining that Disney cast a black performer in the role. While some people sat on their phones all day and cried about a fictional mermaid not being white, celebrities and friends of Halle all rallied behind the young star to show their support after the decision was announced. Freeform, the network that airs Grown-ish , even published a great response to everyone who thinks because Ariel is a Danish fairy tale, she has to be white. The singer just made an appearance at Supercon in Florida , where she was asked about the controversy–and she was ready to defend Halle, Disney, and their decision to cast the star as the newest iteration of Ariel. “I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters,” she replied. “What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart, and their spirit, is what really counts. And the outside package — cause let’s face it, I’m really, really old — and so when I’m singing “Part of Your World,” if you were to judge me on the way that I look on the outside, it might change the way that you interpret the song. But if you close your eyes, you can still hear the spirit of Ariel. We need to be storytellers. And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the color of our skin, our dialect, whether I’m tall or thin, whether I’m overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever color, we really need to tell the story.” In other words, #NotMyAriel hashtaggers can stay mad! Rip Torn Dies; Veteran Film and TV Star Was 88

Rip Torn, an Emmy-Award winning actor known for a number of high-profile movie and television roles, died on Tuesday at his home in Connecticut.  He was 88 years old. The veteran actor’s publicist confirmed the news, telling outlets that Torn’s wife and two daughters were by his side when he passed away.  No cause of death has been given at this time, however. Throughout a career that incredibly spanned six decades, Torn established himself as a versatile performer who could excel in drama or comedy; on the big screen, small screen or in front of a live audience. He appeared in 10 Broadway plays overall, even directing one, along with over 80 feature films, and dozens of television programs. He may forever be remembered most, however, for his role on HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show, on which he played a TV produer and won his aforementioned Emmy. The late star’s  real name was Elmore Rual Torn Jr. He was born in Temple, Texas in 1931 and he studied acting at Texas A&M and the University of Texas prior to serving a stint in the Army and then heading to Los Angeles in the mid-1950s. Torn made his movie debut with an uncredited role in Elia Kazan’s 1956 film Baby Doll before relocating to New York City to study at the Actor’s Studio. The actor went on to made his Broadway debut in 1959 as part of the original cast of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth, portraying Tom, Jr., a character he would reprise for the feature film and TV movie adaptations. He was nominated for a Tony award in 1960 and received a Theater World award for his performance. On television Torn played such real-life and important figures as Richard Nixon, Lyndon B. Johnson and Walt Whitman. Known not just for his unique name and talent but also for his gravely drawl and sinister-looking smile, Torn excelled at playing shady, amoral characters and outright villains. But he could also merge this side of his personality with a comedic side, which is why many readers may recognize him as Patches O’Houlihan from the 2004 movie Dodge: An Underdog Story. “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball,” he said in maybe the film’s most memorable line. For many others, Torn will always be closely associated with the role of Artie on The Larry Sanders Show. He received six Emmy nominations, winning once in 1996, and over the show’s run was also nominated for two American Comedy awards (winning one), an American Television Award, and four Cable Ace awards (winning one), among numerous other accolades. “R.I.P Rip Torn. He was so great in Defending Your Life.  I’ll miss you Rip, you were a true original,” Tweeted Albert Brooks in response to this sad piece of news, while Will Smith added a photo of himself and the actor from Men In Black and wrote: R.I.P. Rip. Torn was married three times: To Ann Wedgeworth from 1955 to 1961, to Geraldine Page from 1963 until her death in 1987, and to Amy Wright from 1989 until his death. Avril Lavigne Accused of Betraying Christ, Promoting Devil-Worship in New Song

Late last year, legendary singer Avril Lavigne was fending off rumors that she had died and been replaced by a clone . Now, people with wild theories are once again coming for her, but this time the accusations are a little less scifi . Avril is promoting her new music, and fans are accusing her of denying Jesus and selling her soul to the devil. Back in February, Avril Lavigne dropped her new track: “I Fell in Love with the Devil.” “I fell in love with the devil / And now I’m in trouble / I fell in love with the devil / I’m underneath his spell (ah),” the lyrics read. The lyrics continue: “Someone send me an angel / To lend me a halo / I fell in love with the devil / Please, save me from this hell.” “Angels and devils always fight over me (fight over me) / Take me to heaven, wake me up from this dream,” Avril sings. Her lyrics go on: “Even in sunlight a cloud shadows over me (shadow over me) / It’s now or never, wake me up from this dream.” Now, she is sharing photos believed to be either outtakes or behind-the-scenes glimpses at her music video. In the images, she wears long robes of black while standing in the woods. She is holding a truly massive cross clutched in her hands. To fans who have followed her since the early 2000s, she is looking every bit the gothic-chic look to which she aspires. And, for the record, she spoke out about he Christian faith, thanking God for her life during her Lyme disease battle several years ago. But Avril’s history and a common sense understanding that lyrics tend to be poetic rather than literal did not seem to influence some haters. “You need Jesus,” accused one follower, who noted that they also despise another recent song, “Head Above Water.” “God saved you and blessed you with another opportunity to choose,” the comment continued. “Now you have this crap? Man, what a shame.” “I’ve been a fan since you came out, [but] this is a turnoff,” the hater declared. “Get your soul right with Jesus.” “[He’s the] only one who can save you,” the former fan wrote. “Yet you hold his cross and blaspheme his name? I pray for your salvation.” “Are you Christian?” another follower demanded to know. “Or are you mocking of Jesus?” Oh boy. “I’ll [have] to unfollow you now,” another fan declared. “How can you fall in love with Devil when God created you with amazing talent, which made [you] so famous?” the way too serious follow asked. “Thank God for the blessings, not Devil,” the commenter concluded. “God, keep my head above water,” reads a quote from Avril’s other recent single. But clearly, that was not enough of a declaration for some of her followers. “God, keep my head above water…falls in love with the devil? Ummmm k. No, thanks,” wrote another goofy hater. The comment continued: “He’s not someone to be playing with. But you do you.” Well that last part was kind of nice, even if they were being sarcastic. “Still think her ‘Head Above Water’ is about God?” asked one follower, hoping to be seen by fans. “Nope.” “You need Jesus, young lady,” admonished another. “So disappointing to see you playing with religious symbols,” another decried. That same comment added: “I’m a huge fan, but I don’t really, really like it because I am a Christian.” For the record, actual religious minorities who are marginalized see their religious symbols misued across almost all media. In this case, it’s not even clear that that’s happening. It’s a Christian woman with a cross. “A lot of you guys are saying about how Avril is making fun of God and making satanic references by this song and photo,” a defender observed. “The metaphor, ‘I fell in love with the devil,’ means that she fell in love with a bad person and she was in a toxic relationship with them,” the comment reasoned. “Another example of this is her song, ‘Birdie,'” the actual fan with reading comprehension wrote. The explanation continued: “She is basically saying that she fell in love with a bad person.” “And,” the defender adds. “She is praying to God to help her manage and break free when she says, ‘Someone send me an angel.'” “So don’t comment s–t before you actually listen to and understand the song,” the fan concluded.

Amber Portwood Arrest: New Details Emerge

We have an update on the troubling Amber Portwood situation. As you very likely know by now, the Teen Mom OG star was arrested early in the morning of July 5 after she allegedly attacked Andrew Glennon. Making matters even more troubling and worrisome? Glennon was holding the couple's one-year old son, James, in his hands at the time. Pretty scary stuff all around, as Amber was booked on a FELONY charge of domestic violence. For the latest on what is going on with Portwood, along with what she allegedly did to Glennon, scroll down and click around… 1. What Do We Know About This Arrest? Portwood was taken into custody by Indiana police around 6 a.m. last Friday. 2. Did She Really Assault Glennon? Yes. According to the official police report, Andrew sent a text message to 911 at 2:14 a.m. that read simply “I need help. My life and my son’s life is in danger.” 3. What Happened, Exactly? This is what we’ve now learned. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Ryan Salisbury is on record as saying an argument between Amber and Andrew commenced around 2 a.m. 4. This is What Amber is Accused of Doing: “Ms. Portwood grew increasingly agitated until she struck him with her shoe in the right side of his neck,” Salisbury wrote in the court document. 5. She Hit Andrew with a Shoe?!? Correct. And it sounds as if Portwood has confirmed this allegation as well. 6. Portwood Reportedly Admitted This “Ms. Portwood stated that she did indeed strike (her boyfriend) with a shoe,” Salisbury also wrote, adding: “But stated that ‘it was in the shoulder and I barely hit him.'” View Slideshow

13 Series Finales That Sucked Big Time

Investing time in a TV show is no small task.  As such, it's not too much to ask for a conclusion that feels not only warranted but bittersweet.  Sadly, that thought was lost on the creative forces behind these shows because the final episodes sucked. Hard.  Have a look below to find out just what we're talking about here.  1. Game of Thrones Daenerys went all Mad Queen, so her lover/nephew took it upon himself to end her reign. As Dany embraced Jon, he stabbed her. Drogon retaliated by not burning Jon to smithereens. Instead, the creature melted the Iron Throne, before picking up his mother’s corpse and flying away. Oh, and Bran who will always be remembered as that kid with white eyes who mumbled for eight seasons was made King. 2. True Blood Sookie killed Bill because it hurt him that she couldn’t live a normal life or something. She moved on with some random dude several years later and seemed happier than she’s ever been. It was like the previous seven seasons did not exist. Slap in the face? Totally. 3. How I Met Your Mother The whole show was about a dude telling his kids how he met their mother. After meeting the said mother, she was killed off in the series finale. In essence, the previous nine seasons were a waste. Even Barney and Robin didn’t get their happy ending. AWFUL. 4. Dexter Dexter bumped off his sister, left his son to be raised by a serial killer. The biggest kicker? Dexter became a lumberjack. We could argue that he could put his knife skills to good use, but the finale was utter nonsense. Even worse, some fans are still calling for a revival. Just leave Dexter to play with his wood. Pun intended. 5. Lost Lost was a groundbreaking series that kept viewers glued to the screen for six whole seasons. Early into the show’s second season, fans started to wonder whether the characters were dead and stuck in limbo. That was vehemently denied by everyone associated with the show. So, you can imagine how viewers felt when the series finale confirmed our heroes were, indeed, dead. 6. Gossip Girl On paper, the series finale was great. Chuck and Blair got married, and Dan and Serena got married. Shippers got their wishes, but the fundamental issue with the final installment was that Dan was revealed to be Gossip Girl. It made no sense, leaving several questions unanswered. View Slideshow

Mariah Carey Stuns Fans, Reveals Limited Number of Sexual Partners

Mariah Carey may or may not have been involved with a Satantic cult as a kid . But the iconic singer has now opened way up to Cosmopolitan and revealed the exact number of men with whom she has been involved. In a biblical sense. By which we mean the following: Carey has told the world just how many sexual partners she’d had in her life. And while there is no right or wrong answer to this question, of course, Mariah’s response is garnering national attention for two seasons: 1. How many celebrities have just come right out and revealed this information to the public?!? 2. For someone who looks like Mariah Carey and for someone as rich and famous as Mariah Carey… the answer is surprisingly low. “I haven’t had that many, but there has been a variety pack,” Carey said at the outset of her response to this question, prior to just spitting out the figure: “I’ve only been with five people in my life, so I’m kind of a prude, honestly, compared to most others in the field.” (Notice the not-so-subtle shade she hurled here at other pop stars? All bow down before this Queen Diva, folks. Seriously: Do it!) Carey is currently dating herf ormer backup dancer, Bryan Tanaka. So there’s one person, if we safely assume the two have engaged in sexual intercourse.  Carey as also married back in the 1990s to Sony Music mogul Tommy Mottola — and she has twins with ex-husband Nick Cannon, meaning they fornicated on at least one occasion. We’re as sure as a celebrity gossip website can be that Carey also dated Derek Jeter awhile ago as well, which leaves just one open spot spot in her bedroom boinking list. We’d say it’s none of our business to think about such a personal topic, but hey: Mariah is the one who brought it up! (UPDATE: Carey was also engaged to James Packer ! There you go! There’s the five!) Tanaka is much younger than Mariah — but Mottola was significantly older, which is likely what prompted the singer to remark on the “variety” of men that have seen her in her birthday suit while she either writhed around on top of them or spread her legs for them via the missionary position. “You might want to picture a child bride,” she told Cosmo of her first marriage, adding: “There was a conscious effort to keep me as this all-American, whatever that means, girl. It was very controlled. “There was no ­freedom for me as a human being. It was almost like being a prisoner.” Yikes . Elsewhere, along with sort of slut-shaming other artists in her industry, Carey detailed all the obstacles she had to overcome in order to make it huge. “They have no idea what I went through as a child to even get to be an 18-year-old girl with a record deal,” she explains. “This was before you could just go on YouTube and sing.” She continued: “A lot of artists say they write, but they don’t really write. No offense to anybody. That’s just what I’ve seen.”

When Kim Kardashian tried to trademark the word “kimono,” she got called out. Her first instinct was to insist that “kimono” wasn’t cultural appropriation despite a massive outcry. Now, Kim has wisely changed her tune and shown real growth. But what’s her brand’s new name? Kim Kardashian spoke about the kimono kontroversy with WSJ Magazine in their first-ever all-digital issue. “You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper,” Kim admits. She says: “I’m the first person to say, ‘Okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.’” Kim wants to clarify that “I obviously had really innocent intentions.” “But, let’s listen,” Kim adds. “And I want to really listen.” “And I want to really take it all in,” she expresses. She notes that Kanye “was in Japan when all of this was happening.” “It’s a place that we love and go to,” Kim reminds the world. “I have such respect.” “I am always listening, learning, and growing,” Kim affirms. Hey, so are the rest of us. And most of us aren’t hindered by the celbrity bubble. Kim wants to make it clear that “I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me.” Last week, the most famous of the famous family revealed that she was walking back her brand’s intended name. “When I announced the name of my shapewear line,” Kim announced. “I did so with the best intentions in mind.” “My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core,” she emphasized. “And after careful thought and consideration,” Kim revealed. “I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name.” “I will be in touch soon,” she added. “Thank you for your understanding and support always.” Kim does not that there are other kimono trademarked brands that did not evoke this level of backlash. “There might be more eyes on me and my brand,” Kim humble-brags. “And so I have to tune it out and really learn and really grow,” she suggests. “And have to realize that maybe there is a different standard.” “Do I feel held to a higher standard?” Kim asks rhetorically. She then emphasizes: “I’ll take responsibility for that and do the right thing.” So what will this new brand be called? “We’re figuring it all out now,” Kim promises. She explains that she decided to get into shapewear and solutionwear because “everyone needs this.” “Underwear, bras,” Kim lists. “This is what people wear every day.” That’s true enough. This is not the first time that Kim has come under fire with accusations of cultural appropriation. Like a couple of her sisters, she does not understand why some communities of color resent seeing her wear cornrows. The reason, of course, is that in most states, people can lose their jobs or be denied employment for “unprofessional” hairstyles like that. Here’s a hint: “unprofessional” is by and large a euphemism for “black” when it refers to hairstyles. Seeing a mega-millionaire whose own immediate family is black flaunt hair that causes people of color to face discrimination is understandably upsetting. People aren’t out to spoil Kim’s fun, and not all criticisms that Kim faces are fair or true, but it’s good to hear that she is open to listening. Meghan Markle Tell-All Book Idea Shot Down HARD By Palace!

Meghan Markle just wants to get her creative juices flowing. But the Hollywood actress-turned-royal Duchess is finding it difficult to adapt to her new life filled with strict rules set in place by the palace.  Rules that are apparently restricinting her from writing a book.  A tell-all book to be exact, a book that is basically everything we have ever wanted and more, but the palace is silencing Markle’s wish. And the people’s dreams.  Radar Online recently reported that the Duchess of Sussex is feeling “oppressed by the palace” ever since they immediately shut down her idea of writing a tell-all memoir. A source told Radar that the new mom had the idea of releasing a part lifestyle bible, part memoir to document her rise to royalty and all the struggles that come with it. But not at all to our surprise, the palace was not fond of the idea.  “Meghan had started keeping notes about her life, which will include a few personal details about Harry and baby Archie, but will mainly focus on her lifestyle, health, fashion and design choices,” shared the insider. “The only problem is, palace staffers — and the Queen — are firm in their disapproval, worrying that it will be received as a salacious tell-all.” But come on Meghan is a woman of class, and she wouldn’t dare bash the family’s regal history — at least, not too bad anyway. Some, however, believe Meghan to be a nuisance to the kingdom and think she has been rubbing the royals the wrong way ever since she married Prince Harry in May 2017 . Also, considering the many reports on Meghan’s on-going feud with Kate Middleton , her too trendy of fashion choices, and her outrageous Hollywood diva requests, the palace is terrified her book would be a chance to expose or embarrass them. “They’re terrified she’ll accidentally expose palace secrets and cause embarrassment and are demanding she knocks the project on the head,” said the source. “Meghan can’t help but feel that once again, her creative talents are being stifled at every turn.”  But we’re sure Meghan will find a way to win back her creative freedom. The palace knows Meghan isn’t one to follow the rules,  times are changing and the monarch is evolving, so we suggest they buckle up. Shay Mitchell Breaks the Internet Again With Beautiful Baby Bump!

Late last month, the gorgeous  Shay Mitchell announced that she’s pregnant  with her rainbow baby. Fans rejoiced at the news, and threw heart eyes at their first-ever glimpse of her beautiful baby bump. Now, Shay is treating her admirers to even more photos of her pregnant belly. Take a look! The stunning  Pretty Little Liars  alum shared this photo of herself wearing sharp sunglasses and a simple, perfectly fitted white dress. “La Dolce Vita,” Shay captioned the photo. The photo stands out for more than just Shay’s perpetual drop-dead gorgeous looks. The dress gives a clear outline of her spectacular baby bump. That pregnant belly looks huge on her slender frame! Shay shared another, somewhat more subtle photo on Instagram. Int his photo, she’s still sporting glasses while wearing a sheer maroon gown. Her pose partially obscures her baby bump, but you can still see it. “Is it too late to be in the Little Mermaid remake? I can be an extra,” Shay offers in the caption. “Regardless, thank you @positanoboats_tour for taking us around!” she writes. Even this photo has well in excess of one million views — and the numbers keep going up and up. Shay had already brought fans to a jaw-dropping standstill with her topless baby bump debut. Here, Shay is sporting a pregnant belly and laying it bare to the world, using her arms to keep the photo appropriate for Instagram’s prudish sensibilities. Anyone who could peel their eyes away from her glistening form to read the caption saw her joke about her pregnancy. “Does this mean I’m allowed to drive in the car pool lane at all times now?” Shay asked. That’s probably not the intended use of said lanes, but society is remarkably chill about a lot of things when a pregnant woman is doing them. Shay has been shattering the internet with her pregnant pics since she first made the announcement on June 28. But that isn’t all that she’s been up to. Shay is, of course, an actress – even though if professionally beautiful person were a job, she’d be a shoe-in. She has been hard at work on a new series called Heiresses . Shay is also working on another show, Dollface . She’s a busy woman! As we mentioned, this pregnancy is especially significant for Shay because this is her rainbow baby. If you are not familiar, this term describes a baby born after a previous miscarriage of which the couple were aware. Shay experienced a tragic miscarriage in 2018. Now, she and her partner Matte Babel are expecting this child, who will be a double blessing upon their lives. In the mean time, fans and followers can continue to watch Shay’s baby bump, as she is not being shy about showing it off. We are overjoyed on behalf of this gorgeous and talented actress and on behalf of her partner. Everyone is of course hoping that Shay will keep the sweet pics coming as her due date nears.
