Mom Who Provides Free Lunches For Kids In Her Local Community Raises Over $65K For Her Initiative

W hen it comes to supporting the youth, it takes a village. After the story of a St. Louis woman who makes 100 lunches for children in her local community every day made headlines, several donors have stepped up to contribute to her initiative, St. Louis Public Radio reported. For five years, Champale Anderson has used her own money to make free snack bags for kids in her St. Louis neighborhood who would otherwise go hungry. She started a GoFundMe with a goal of $1,500. It's raised more than $60,000. (via @stlpublicradio ) https://t.co/jIHeHeR1wx — NPR (@NPR) September 19, 2019 Champale Anderson —a mother of six—has been providing youngsters in her neighborhood with breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the past five years. After noticing that many of the children in her community were living in poverty and would often go without food, the health care provider decided to take action and launch a project designed to combat hunger. Through her Champ’s Teardrops initiative, she provides students with nutritious bagged lunches and snacks. She has an open-door policy where kids in the community can stop by her home to pick up food. “I noticed the kids they are always hungry. They get off the bus and they take off running and they never know what I will have in the bag. I switch up and have special treats for my special babies,” she told Fox 2 News . “It makes me proud. My goal is to go to different neighborhoods and give out bags.” Since launching a GoFundMe page for her project, Anderson has gone far beyond her $1,500 goal and raised over $65,000. She plans on using the funds to grow her project and continue to make an impact in the lives of children in her community and beyond. Initiatives like Champ’s Tearsdrops are needed as childhood hunger remains an issue in the U.S. According to the nonprofit No Kid Hungry , more than 12 million children in America live in food-insecure households. Further research revealed that 17.9 percent of children under the age of 18 live in homes where there are scarce amounts of food or there is a lack of safe and nutritious food options. Detroit Youth Choir Receives $1 Million Donation

T he Detroit Youth Choir fell short when it came to taking home the America’s Got Talent title, but upon their return to the Motor City, they received a memorable surprise. According to the Detroit Free Press , the choir was awarded $1 million. #BREAKING : The Detroit Youth Choir will get $1 million anyway after its stellar performance on @AGT . https://t.co/uz5qO96wsP — Detroit Free Press (@freep) September 20, 2019 The donation was a collective effort between local businesses and organizations. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan surprised the choir with the gift before scores of people during their homecoming celebration. Amongst the companies who contributed to the donation include the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, DTE Energy Foundation, Skillman Foundation, Huntington Bank, and Bank of America. Other donors included the Ballmer Group, Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Dakkota Integrated Systems and the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation. “I was watching you guys and you and Kodi Lee are on that stage, and my heart’s in my throat,” Mayor Duggan told the youngsters after they returned home. “When they announced it was Kodi Lee, I was a little disappointed for a second. But I was like, ‘He deserves a million dollars; he was great.’ The only thing I thought was unfair was there should’ve been two first prizes.” The America’s Got Talent stage isn’t the only notable one that the predominately Black choir has graced. They’ve performed at several Detroit Pistons games and were a part of the CityLab Detroit summit in 2018. “Our kids are your average Detroit young person,” choir director Anthony White told The Detroit News . “They relate to every young person in America and the world. There are no egos, all of our kids are good kids. We just want to represent to the country how good these young people are.” America’s Got Talent winner Kodi Lee —a musician who is autistic and blind—won $1 million and will perform at the Paris Theater in Vegas. Her winning menu featured seared sea scallops with cornmeal tuille, sweet corn puree and pickled swiss chard. She served applewood smoked short ribs for her entrée and topped the meal off with a lemon blueberry tart. Hunter says competing on the show and coming out victorious has been life-changing and that she’s ready to continue her journey in the realm of culinary arts with her cookbook that will include soul food recipes with a twist. She also wants to use some of her prize money to open up a restaurant. “It is enough for me to at least feed the idea. I don’t have to go to the table with nothing, so I am definitely going to have to get investors or some sort of a loan, or find the rest of the money somewhere else, but it is going to be a nice start,” she told Parade . “I always say that having the title is more than the money. I am hoping to be able to work the title to, ultimately, open up that restaurant.” She added that she’s looking forward to being trained by the judges and says that their tutelage is more valuable than the money. Show Me The Money: Cory Booker Reportedly Needs To Raise $1.7 Million Before October Or He’ll Drop Out

Source: Scott Olson / Getty Cory Booker’s Presidential Run Could Be Over If He Fails To Get Donations According to ABC News ,  Cory Booker ‘s presidential campaign could be over soon. Booker’s campaign manager Addisu Demissie says that the candidate needs to raise almost $1.7 million before Sept. 30 to stay in the presidential race. Demissie explains that Booker would not meet the “increase in the DNC’s debate-qualifying thresholds, which would require significant funds to meet” without help from the public. The $1.7 million is the minimum amount Booker needs to collect to keep his campaign going. Per Demissie, the candidate has to raise as much money as possible so that he can put together a competitive campaign plan. Earlier this year raised $4.5 million and spent $5.3 million. This is behind the top tier Democratic candidates. But, he’s not the only presidential hopeful in this position. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke both generated fewer funds than Booker.

But apparently, one fan at a recent concert didn’t get the message. On Friday night, the North Carolina rapper was performing at the Prime Festival in Lansing, Michigan. During his set, video footage posted by the folks over at TMZ shows a fan reaching up to him, seemingly to snatch the jewelry right off his neck. When he makes contact DaBaby’s chain, the performer immediately throws a punch and then retreats to the stage to avoid anyone else in the crowd trying something similar. See for yourself down below: As we mentioned previously, people should really know by now that DaBaby is ’bout it. He famously posted before and after shots of a fellow Carolina rapper who tried to follow him around while he was shopping at Louis Vuitton . Source: Jamie McCarthy / Getty Jonathan Van Ness Talks About His HIV Diagnosis In New Memoir Queer Eye   star  Jonathan Van Ness has revealed he’s HIV positive and is speaking publicly for the first time about living with the diagnosis. In a recent interview with the New York Times — which ran accompanied by an extract from his forthcoming memoir Over the Top– Van Ness opens up about being diagnosed at the age of 25. After fainting at work, Jonathan visited Planned Parenthood, which is where he found out he had HIV. Even though there are currently more than one million people living with HIV in the United States, the stigma surrounding it is still very real. After revealing his own diagnosis, Van Ness recalled his reluctance to discuss his status once his career launched him onto millions of TV screens. “When  Queer Eye  came out, it was really difficult because I was like, ‘Do I want to talk about my status?’ And then I was like, ‘The Trump administration has done everything they can do to have the stigmatization of the LGBT community thrive around me.’” Jonathan also goes on to speak openly about his experiences as an addict and a sexual abuse survivor. “It’s hard for me to be as open as I want to be when there are certain things I haven’t shared publicly,” he said. “These are all difficult subjects to talk about on a makeover show about hair and makeup. That doesn’t mean  Queer Eye is less valid, but I want people to realize you’re never too broken to be fixed.” After revealing such personal details about his life, Van Ness has been bombarded with support from friends, fellow celebrities, and fans who watch him on TV every week.
