Polaris Hosts Test Drive In Southwest Oregon The southwest coast of Oregon is full of pine tree forests that stretch down to the ocean, sand dunes that go on as far as the eye can see and coastline that is so picturesque that it looks like it came out of a storybook. And it was the perfect backdrop for a three-day trip to test drive Polaris’ newest fleet of off-road and specialty vehicles. The vehicle maker invited a select group of media and tastemakers (like Snoop Dogg’s son Cordell Broadus and social media star Mapy) to test the new Slingshot – a three-wheeled convertible-style roadster, and the Rzr – a four-wheeled off-road vehicle – among the natural splendor. After checking into our hotel, the Inn At Fifth in Eugene, we spent the afternoon getting to know each other and getting outfitted with Polaris gear to get us ready to drive. Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty The next day, we drove to the coast, taking in the beautiful scenery along the way: rushing streams, the occasional farm, forests and open fields. We first arrived at the Spinreel Dune Buggy & ATV Rental in North Bend, where after a safety check, we piled into our Rzr’s and set out for the sand dunes. Cruising the dunes in the Rzr was a blast – especially riding the four-wheeler all the way up a dune and then careening down it. After a lunch of local Dungeness Crab at the Coos History Museum, we got into our Slingshots for the final drive of the day. The two-seater resembled a cross between the Batmobile and a motorcycle, and the convoy of our Slingshots driving through the streets and highways along the state’s coast turned heads wherever we went. Riding in the open air Slingshot with the music blasting was simply exhilarating. No wonder celebs like Chris Brown are fans. Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty We ended our trip by driving the Slingshots to the Heceta Head Lighthouse – a scenic spot that had its own beach – where put our feet in the water and snapped a group photo. This reporter had never experienced – or even considered – off-roading or specialty vehicles before, but after this trip, we realized that it can be an exciting soft adventure for the whole family and a thrilling way to see the country. Check out the video above for more from the trip.

Let’s get ready to rumble! Timothée Chalamet stars in a new battle for the crown movie called The King that is hitting Netflix later this month. Based on the Shakespeare play we see Timothée as King Henry V bicker and combat with his father for making England fight his unjust battles only to reluctantly take the crown once his father becomes ill. After that, a series of events happen that send the new King back to the battlefield to fight for his life. I had the opportunity to fly to New York City to sit down with the Oscar-nominated actor and the film’s director David Michôd to talk about The King. Chalamet broke down his process for rehearsing his loud monologues. “I just try to get the words down. I think it’s the kind of thing on the day, but I’m lucky enough to have done a lot of theater. I think I knew to do that speech in a hotel room but it was never going to be an authentic experience of the day of having 300 guys in front of you and trying to rile them up.” Timothee goes on to explain that he never yelled his dramatic war cry monologue prior to filming the scene. Then he shares a funny story about how all the extras in that scene didn’t understand English so they had no clue what he was actually saying. David who not only directed this film but also co-wrote it, broke down how they used a more modern language than the Shakespeare play while still keeping stellar wordplay for the actors, but the highlight of the entire interview was hearing Timothée Chalamet break down New York slang in order to describe The King on Netflix.
An 8-year-old third grader in Michigan was told she could not participate in school photos because administrators took issue with her braids which were intermixed with the color red. Marian Scott told CNN affiliate WILX she cried after she was told that she couldn't get her school photo taken because of the red extensions in her hair https://t.co/MsW1qU7fFJ — CNN (@CNN) October 9, 2019 Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). The student, a young Black girl named Marian Scott was sent back to class, while her parents who were informed that their child violated the school’s picture day policy at a later time. Marian attends the Paragon Charter Academy in Jackson, Michigan. Marian reportedly cried after the encounter because she felt singled out from her classmates, of course prompting an emotional reaction from her family. “All of this is uncalled for, they didn’t even call us,” her father Doug Scott said in an interview with WILX . “Marian didn’t leave the house, go on the street and get this done on her own, no – she’s 8 years old, we did this ourselves in our own home and there’s no way I felt like this would happen.” According to the school’s policy, children are not allowed to wear ” extreme hairstyles, and the preferred styles need to have more “natural tones,” or be more “conservative.” Anything outside of that range is not permitted. SEE ALSO: Feeling This Hairstyle? Toya Wright Chops Off Her Inches & Gets A Sleek Short Cut Scott further inquired about why his child was allowed back into the classroom if she held a style that was deemed inappropriate. “If she’s not a disruption to the class, then why is she a disruption to the picture?” he asked. According to the school’s policy, students are given one week to correct their hair if they are found to be in violation. On Monday Marian returned to school without the red hair in her braids. The family plans to have her photo retaken on November 12, WILX reports. Paragon Academy released a statement to NBC News saying, “We take great care to ensure our families are well-informed about this policy, and also work closely with students and their parents if there’s a concern.” The school’s policy leaves it open to a variety of interpretation when there are white administrators making decisions regarding what is deemed an appropriate hairstyle for students. Without full grasp, compassion, or an education on Black culture, moments like what transpired with this young girl will continue to happen. And she will undoubtedly suffer some form of trauma in relation to her hair. As we know, Eurocentric beauty standards are often held against Black children and begins at elementary school age. The discrimination continues all the way into adulthood and even on the federal level, as we see several states have adapted anti-discrimination policies in regards to the Black hairstyles we hold so near and dear to the culture. Source: WENN.com / WENN La La Anthony is a woman who wears many hats. She is an actress, a TV personality, an author, a producer, a designer, a businesswoman, and a mother. With so much on her plate, the 38-year-old can’t afford to be sidelined by the migraines she’s been suffering with for some time. Excedrin’s Migraine product has been the one thing she says has helped her continue to work and enjoy moments that she used to have to put on hold because of the pain. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). “It was definitely over 10 years for sure and at different times in my life it has been a really big burden,” she told me over the phone, noting that her headaches are brought on most often by cigarette smoke, lack of sleep, delays in eating and not drinking enough water. “Excedrin Migraine is something that I’ve always used and turned to for relief, and really, the only thing I’ve ever been able to use to find some type of relief.” La La teamed up with the pain medication makers to launch their Excedrin Take Two initiative, which invites migraine sufferers to share moments they missed out on or that were affected because a migraine came on and relive them migraine-free. The star can relate to having special moments dampened by intense headaches. “There was a family reunion a couple years back and I think we all know what it’s like to be present but not present,” she said. “I remember just being so out of it because my head was pounding and I just wanted to lay down. I didn’t get to fully enjoy our family reunion. I have a really big family so the reunions are what we look forward to every couple of years. For everyone to say, ‘Hey, you didn’t seem like yourself, are you okay?’ that was frustrating. That would be something that I would love to have a do-over on.” SEE ALSO: Sonja Sohn Of ‘The Chi,’ ‘The Wire’ Arrested For Cocaine Possession She learned her lesson from that situation and decided to be aware of her triggers. La La keeps Excedrin Migraine in her bag so that she never has to miss a beat while working on her many different projects, presently including BH90210 and Power. “I’ve never had to slow down because of it,” she said. “I’ve never had to stop because of it. My days are able to continue, I’m able to get relief, I’m able to push forward and that’s what you want. You don’t want to be in a situation where you can’t even work because of a migraine. You just don’t want that.” And La La has a lot of work to do these days, especially as an actress. She’s come a long way from her days of being a radio personality and VJ to now being the star in a number of primetime shows and movies. “I always thought it was cool and could be cool to try, but not at that time,” she said of taking up acting. “But once I started taking acting classes and really getting into it and taking it seriously, then I was like, wow, this is something I really want to do and really want to try my hardest to become better at and learn. I’m still learning. It’s something that you learn every single day. I have Power , 90210 and I’m also in Chicago right now filming Lena Waithe’s show The Chi. That’s been a great experience for me.” She is joining the Showtime series at a time when those behind The Chi are trying to move forward from the allegations of sexual harassment that were brought against axed star Jason Mitchell by his former co-star Tiffany Boone. La La says despite the cloud that was cast over Lena;s project, she’s happy to be a part of Season 3 . SEE ALSO: Behind The Scenes: Kandi Burruss Lands Reoccurring Role On ‘The Chi’ “I think Lena Waithe is one of the most amazing people and talents of our time,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to work with her and so when this came up, I was like, there’s no way I’m going to pass this opportunity up. The Chi is such an amazing show. I was a fan before I was on the show, and yeah, different things have happened, but at the core, it’s an amazing show. The writers are amazing, Lena is amazing and they’re going to continue to do amazing things over there and I’m just excited to be a part of it.” In the meantime, though, she’s completing the final season of Power. La La is happy to have a more prominent role than ever on the series now that her character LaKeisha Grant has grown to be the HBIC on the Starz series. “It’s so amazing to me because as an actor and one who plays characters, all you want is for the characters to grow,” she said. “So when you see the arc of LaKeisha from the beginning to now and how much the character has grown, whether you love her or hate her or agree with what she’s doing or not, she’s there, her presence matters on the show and that’s all you want.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Still, she welcomes the passion of fans, which she says means she’s doing a great job in her role. “I’m so grateful to Power and our writer and creator Courtney Kemp for just giving me great material to work with to where people really feel it. They’re mad at Lakeisha. They’re mad at me!” she said. “They’re upset with the decisions she’s making and things she’s doing, and it’s a testament to the writing and for me, it’s a testament to how I’m playing the character that people really think it’s real life. They have a hard time separating!” ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : Legendary Actress From ‘A Different World’ Passes Away Tatyana Ali & Her Husband Welcome Baby Number Two [PHOTOS] Tisha Campbell Details Childhood Rape By Babysitter [VIDEO] Follow @TheRSMS
