So every time that I keep traveling, like, my feet and my legs, they swell up. Like, I had really bad ‘cankles.’ Then after my shows, I wasn’t really feeling it when I performing, but I would really feel a lot of back pains. And then on top of that, my stitches around my boobs, on the outside, are completely healed, but the inside, you know, you still got stitches in the inside, in my breasts, so they’ve slowly got to heal.” The Bronx native is scheduled to perform on June 16th at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. There is no word of her cancelling that performance so hopefully she will be healthy enough to take the stage. This story was originally published on MadameNoire.com . Sign Up For Our Newsletter! The paps who mistook this man for Kevin, asked the talk show host a range of questions about her relationship with her soon-to-be ex husband and how she, her son and Kevin are doing in the wake of their split. “Stuff happens in life, and I’ve had a really full life and the things that I have endured…please don’t make me cry,” she said. Wendy then looked to her alleged Bae and apologized. Turning back to the paps, she was clear: “I didn’t plan on this, but it is what it is…I have a very full life. Thank you for watching. Adding, “I would ask you to respect our privacy, but please, I don’t respect people’s privacy. That’s why I do the hot topics,” she quipped. There is no Geto Boys without Bushwick Bill. Thank you @tmz_tv & @realdawn_p for the updated report. On behalf of the family we’re requesting privacy until further notice.” See original story below. Bushwick Bill , the giant-size figure who, along with fellow Geto Boys Scarface and Willie D kicked down the door for Houston rap to be noticed nationally has reportedly succumbed to pancreatic cancer. He was 52. Tributes have begun pouring in from Scarface to Bun B , Slim Thug, Questlove and more. In May, Bill revealed he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer . He told TMZ and others that he was prepared to fight and ultimately beat the disease. He announced a F*ck Cancer tour that was supposed to kick off Saturday in Dallas, Texas. Born in Jamacia in 1966, Richard Stephen Shaw eventually found his way into the hearts and minds of rap fans under the moniker Bushwick Bill when he joined forces with Scarface and Willie D to form the third and most popular version of the Geto Boys. Bill, having been a Geto Boy since 1984 when J. Prince first started Rap-A-Lot Records, was there for the original incarnation of Raheem, Slim Jukebox, and Sir Rap-A-Lot and then Prince Johnny C, Slim Jukebox, Bushwick Bill, and DJ Ready Red in 1985. A self-proclaimed introvert , Bill often said in interviews that he “never had a big personality” but it came out on stage, often. In June 1991, before the group’s most famous album came one of the more fascinating stories in rap history. After shooting himself in the eye on accident, the incident turned into the landmark album cover for We Can’t Be Stopped . Thus, the legend of Bushwick Bill was born. “I figure keeping it myself is not really helping nobody, and I’m not really afraid of dying because if anyone knows anything about me from [his 1992 song] ‘ Ever So Clear ,’ I died and came back already in June 1991, so I know what it’s like on the other side,” Bill told TMZ in May. He had planned to release three albums to set his children up in lieu of his untimely demise. RELATED: Bushwick Bill Gives Health Update As Geto Boys Reunion Tour Gets Canceled

B illionaire Robert F. Smith ’s act of kindness has inspired other entrepreneurs across the country to pay it forward. A Black-owned barbershop in North Carolina raised money to help high school seniors pay off their debt so they would be able to graduate, WBTV reported. Season Bennett learned 14 seniors at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte wouldn’t get their diplomas with the rest of their class if the overdue school fees weren’t paid. So Bennett asked the community for help eliminating the $4,500 debt. https://t.co/tELwhA0miB — NewsChannel 12 (@wcti12) May 30, 2019 After seeing Smith’s commencement speech—where he promised to eliminate the student loan debt of Morehouse College’s entire 2019 graduating class— Season Bennett was prompted to do something special for students in Charlotte. Bennett, who owns Headlines Barbershop with her husband, got in contact with the staff at East Mecklenburg High School to see if any seniors had outstanding debts that would prevent them from graduating. After learning that 14 students collectively had $4,500 in debt, Bennett decided to raise funds for the teenagers. Many of the fees they had were tied to their participation in the school’s band program. With the help of her local community, she was able to raise enough money to cover the debt. NFL player Thomas Davis was instrumental in helping Bennett and the barbershop reach its goal. “It seems like that’s just basic in our culture. You need to get at least your high school diploma,” Bennett told the news outlet. Several individuals have stepped up to help high school students pay off their debt to walk across the graduation stage and receive their hard-earned diplomas. In May Valerie Castile —the mother of Philando Castile —paid off the lunch debt for students at Robbinsdale Cooper High School so that they could graduate. Outstanding high school lunch debt has become an evolving issue across the country. According to USA Today , 75 percent of school districts in the U.S. had unpaid student meal debt during the 2016-2017 academic year. T his year’s Tony Awards could turn out to be a historic evening for Black women in the realm of dance. According to Forbes , choreographer and artistic director Camille A. Brown is the first Black woman to be nominated in the Best Choreography category in 23 years. #ICYMI this piece about @CamilleABrown #dance #choreographers https://t.co/AZnPkrZzVK — Dance/USA (@DanceUSAorg) June 7, 2019 Brown—who is the founder of the New York City-based Camille A. Brown & Dancers dance company—is nominated for her work on the play Choir Boy . The play, which was written by Tarell Alvin McCraney , chronicles the experiences of a Black student who leads a gospel choir. Brown intertwined the storyline with powerful forms of dance expression. She says the premise of the play prompted her to pull inspiration from South African dance traditions, Step dance routines, and Juba dance which was started by Africans who were enslaved. “When I was hearing the spirituals [in Choir Boy] I was thinking about the historical context of them because they’re over 200 years old, but then looking at the men [in the cast] and how they are walking in life in 2019,” she told Deadline in an interview. “I told them that this was a time for them to be unapologetic on stage, and to step into what all this means. I told them, you’re carrying this historical information but you’re also carrying who you are. It’s not just about me coming in and putting in steps – there has to be the need and intention, an urgency, this combination of working and moving our bodies in space and having a dialogue.” The award-winning choreographer has had a storied career in the dance industry. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts and went on to dance with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Brown’s dance company has performed internationally and she has led the choreography for shows that include Once on This Island and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert! . Brown says being nominated for the Tony Award is meaningful and speaks volumes about the need for more representation in dance and theatre. “When I wanted to do theatre, I didn’t see many reflections of myself. This Tony nomination is so important to me, and has deep meaning, because the last black woman that was nominated in this category was Marlies Yearby in 1996, for Rent ,” she said. “I have I hope that a young black girl who wants to choreograph for theater but doesn’t necessarily see many black females can see a reflection of herself through me.” The 73rd Tony Awards will air on June 9.
