Puma has revealed plans to release a collaboration with the proceeds going towards Nipsey’s children. The Blast reports : During the Wall Street Journal’s “Future of Everything Festival” in NYC, Puma executive Adam Petrick was leading a talk with brand ambassador, G-Eazy, when the news was revealed. Nipsey and Puma had been in a partnership before his murder, and Petrick said the, “The concept of working with Nipsey just made sense.” Petrick revealed that Puma still had unfinished business with Nipsey, and that they will continue to release product that he was associated with. “We had a lot of things that were coming, and hopefully a lot of things we will still do with his estate. Rider allegedly threatened to go to his car and pull out the gat at a youth basketball tourney after his wife got into some funk with another mom at the game. TMZ Sports reports : 48-year-old Rider — who spent 9 seasons in the NBA — is the head coach of the SkyRiders basketball team, which was playing a tourney at the Inspire Court gym in Mesa, AZ on May 17. Cops responded to the tournament over reports of parents fighting — and when they got there, they spoke with Isaiah’s wife, Vanessa … who said she had been attacked by another woman for “no viable reason.” Vanessa Rider also claimed her 9-year-old son was physically assaulted by an older boy and injured during the altercation. When cops arrived, they found the other woman … but she told a completely different story. The woman claims her son’s team had defeated the SkyRiders so Vanessa was bitter — with Vanessa calling her a “bitch” and trying to swing at her. Rider’s wife claims someone else in the gym threatened to pull out a gun, and that her husband was just trying to even the odds. No one was charged with a crime. — Photo: Getty

When Brendan challenged him regarding Folarin flying that flag first, Jones emphatically responded, “Wale don’t want no sneaker conversation with me.” That opened door wider for even more peer shaming despite a compliment. “Wale get fly. He get fly but a lot of those sneakers he be wearing be boo boo.” Yikes. Jones went to be very critical on the chunky sneaker trend and rappers who look crazy trying to make the look work. “I don’t wear clown shoes. I don’t wear big shoes. I don’t wear shoes with three heels on them.” While taking a stroll through memory lane of his iconic Diplomat swag days he detailed how Cam’ron always had a great rotation of sneakers. When asked about Dame Dash’s fashion influence on Harlem during that era Jim stopped with the compliments. “Dame was a little bit older and sh*t. Dame didn’t get too fly. He had the regular Harlem get up. Morgan Dixon and Vanessa Garrison . Cognizant of the racial health disparities impacting Black women the two friends, who met in college, were determined to create a platform that promoted health, wellness, and self-care. For Dixon and Garrison, the mission behind GirlTrek was personal. They wanted to break generational cycles and change the narrative surrounding Black women and wellness. “It wasn’t because we were walking enthusiasts or because we love to walk. When we started we were just trying to save our own lives,” Dixon told CNN. “How do we not fall in these pitfalls that our mothers and our aunts and our grandmothers have fallen into? Eighty percent of us are overweight and carrying that weight is killing us now at disproportionate levels. We can’t do it anymore. We can’t carry it anymore.” What started as a walking challenge for family and friends quickly grew into a national movement where over 170,00 women are walking with groups across the country with the assistance of 1,000 organizers. The mission goes far beyond getting fit. Many of the walks are inspired by civil rights pioneers and are hosted to spread awareness about issues impacting the Black community. The walks have fostered conversations amongst Black women about playing a role in the redevelopment of their communities. “We know that when Black women walk, things change, and that we walk in the footsteps of that legacy,” said Garrison. Two days after the Washington, D.C.-based commencement ceremony she traveled to Philadelphia to receive her JD from the University of Pennsylvania. She started her journey at George Washington University in 2015. The political management program allowed her to take online courses and Williams saw it as the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the virtual option and pursue another degree. She later applied and was accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She pursued both degrees all while serving as a Special Advisor and Director of Special Projects at the State Department. She also studied abroad in Tokyo. Williams’ accomplishments didn’t come easy. She had to continually readjust her schedule and priorities to find a balance between being in both programs. “A lot of people wondered why I continued with my master’s after starting law school, but both stimulated my mind in different ways. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to do both, but it did require sacrifice and discipline,” she said. “During my first year of school, I stopped my Master’s program so I could focus on law full time. The summer following my first year, I resumed my Master’s program and simultaneously did law and my Master’s until I completed my Master’s in December of 2018—which I did while I was studying abroad in Tokyo.” She hopes that her story will encourage others to stop limiting themselves and be unapologetic about accomplishing their goals. Williams is the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic. T he National Association of Black Journalists is on a mission to combat the negative portrayals of Black men in the media. For the third consecutive year, the organization will host its “Black Male Media Project” as an avenue to empower and inspire Black men to reclaim their narratives. The organization has been dedicated to the advocacy of Black journalists worldwide. The Black Male Media Project was created as a safe space to foster discussions surrounding everything from the need for more diversity and inclusion in newsrooms to the improvement of positive Black male representation. One of the panels, dubbed #MoreThanMugshots, will take a deep dive into how Black men are portrayed in news coverage. The event is also utilized to align Black men with mentoring and networking opportunities. As part of the global event—which is slated to take place on June 1—nearly 20 NABJ chapters within the U.S. and other parts of the world will host workshops, panels, forums. There will be events hosted in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Philadelphia and other major cities. The organization hopes that the movement transcends beyond the physical safe spaces that they’ve created as part of the event and encourages individuals to connect and spread awareness about the efforts digitally through the use of the hashtag #InspireBlackMen on social media. “The overarching goal of BMMP is to counteract negative images of Black men often portrayed in the media,” said NABJ President Sarah Glover said in a statement. “We encourage all newsrooms across the country to make this a priority because how Black men are portrayed in the news can have a direct impact on issues such as racial profiling, discriminatory hiring practices, violence and more. Black men are intellectuals, professionals, innovators, spiritual leaders, activists, fathers, brothers and sons just like any other man and should be treated and portrayed that way.” Forums like the Black Male Media Project are needed. According to a study conducted by the Rutgers School of Public Health, there is a direct correlation between the media’s negative portrayal of Black men and how they are treated by the police. Mary Winston was recently appointed to serve as Bed, Bath & Beyond’s new interim CEO; making her the first Black woman to be at the helm of a Fortune 500 company since Ursula Burns resigned as Xerox’s CEO three years ago, Black Enterprise reported. Prior to taking on the role at Bed, Bath & Beyond, she served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Family Dollar Stores Inc. In the past, she has led the financial planning and management for companies that include Giant Eagle, Inc., Scholastic Corporation, Visteon Corporation, and Pfizer Inc. Winston—a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School—has served on several boards. She is currently the President at WinsCo Enterprises Inc. She served on Bed, Bath & Beyond’s Board of Directors prior to being named interim CEO and hopes to drive change within the company. She is replacing Steven Temares who stepped down earlier this month after serving as CEO for 16 years. “This is an important time for Bed Bath & Beyond and we are committed to being the leading omnichannel retailer of choice for the home and heart-felt life events,” said Winston in a statement . “I look forward to building an even stronger future for Bed Bath & Beyond. As we continue to review our business initiatives, we will be focused on driving continued margin improvement, enhancing the in-store and online experience, and accelerating our transformation to the benefit of our shareholders, customers and other stakeholders.” Winston’s leadership is needed. According to USA Today , the company experienced a huge decline in sales while trying to battle with large online retailers. The decline led to the layoffs of 150 employees in March. S ydney Wilson —a teen from DeKalb County—has been an academic standout since grade school. She mastered algebra in the first grade and by the time she was 12 was studying advanced placement biology and world history. https://t.co/TpllsvqkrK — AJC (@ajc) May 24, 2019 Wilson, 14, has always had a love for education and her passion for knowledge has led her to excel far beyond her grade levels at every stage of her journey. She has an infatuation with science and at a young age would immerse herself in documentaries about nature. Before entering her teens, she already began studying advanced biology. Aware of her intelligence and accelerated learning pace, her parents decided that it would be best for her to start high school at the age of 10. Wilson, who was homeschooled, attended a private school founded by her father called Wilson Academy. Outside of her academics she was involved in several extracurricular activities; serving as the head of the rotary club and robotics team and playing soccer and running track. With the support of her loved ones and school community, she excelled in the classroom and beyond and received an acceptance letter from Spelman at the age of 13. Wilson—who is staying true to her love for STEM and plans on majoring in biology—is beyond excited to continue her academic journey at the Atlanta-based institution. She reportedly has wanted to go to Spelman since she was 8-years-old. “I am so excited to be in the sisterhood. So many women have reached out to me and have been very nice and supportive, and I am so excited to see what my life will be at Spelman,” she said in a statement. She told KTVU that she wants to come up with cures for human illnesses through the use of animal science. Her parents are beyond excited about her accomplishment. She graduated on May 18 as co-valedictorian of her high school class.
