Handling Business: Lauren London Granted Guardianship Over The Estate of Her & Nipsey Hussle’s Son

View post:

Source: Allen Berezovsky / Getty Lauren London Has Been Officially Granted Guardianship of the Estate of Her Son With Nipsey Hussle Once someone passes, you hope that the family and friends surrounding them would come together to properly handle everything in a way that’s respectful toward all parties. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case, and wasn’t the case for Nipsey Hussle ‘s family, either. Following the legend’s horrific murder earlier this year, his family organized an absolutely unforgettable memorial service at The Staples Center. There, it seemed like Nipsey’s children were more than safe in the arms of his longtime love Lauren London and his sister, Samantha –but the mother of his firstborn, Emani , was also in the picture. Following the funeral and the world beginning to mourn, news started to circulate that there were some custody issues surrounding Nipsey’s daughter with Tanisha Asghedom . Before his passing, Hussle’s daughter was living with him and Lauren–which is what drove his siblings, Samantha and Blacc Sam, to file for joint custody of Emani in Nipsey’s absence. This led to some battles in court that are still ongoing between Tanisha and the family, but luckily, things for Nipsey’s youngest Kross seemed to be cut and dry with his mom Lauren London. Now, it’s official that London will be legally managing the future finances of her 3-year-old son, who is set to inherit $1 million from his late father. According to reports from TMZ , Lauren was granted guardianship over the estate of Kross Ermias Asghedom—her only child with the rapper and philanthropist. The outlet points out that the 34-year-old actress had filed for guardianship over the estate back in July, nearly four months after the father of her child was fatally shot in Los Angeles. London previously told the court she will be in charge of raising the child, and wanted to ensure that his seven-figure inheritance was handled properly. She argued that the best way she could do this is by being involved in all legal matters involving Nipsey’s estate, which is administered by his brother Blacc Sam. After all of the trouble surrounding Emani’s guardianship, it’s nice to see something stable for Kross (and hopefully for Emani once everything gets ironed out). Kross just celebrated his 3rd birthday back in August. View this post on Instagram Today is my warrior baby’s 3rd Birthday. Kross Ermias Asghedom. Don’t ever touch it again,’” Wade said laughing, and added that Kaavia has his wife’s “personality with my facial expressions.” He finds the entire account funny, saying that the sarcastic remarks paired with his daughter’s cute expressions works well. “It’s a cool combination, but it’s like … it’s hilarious,” he added. “She’ll send me some of [the captions] before she puts them on and I’ll be dying laughing because it’s so on point, you know? Teyana Taylor Says Being Slim Is Not All It’s Cracked Up To Be: “I Have Certain Insecurities”

Read the original post:

Source: Brandon Todd – @branndannart / Dreamville Festival There are plenty of people who would love to have a body like Teyana Taylor’ s. The 28-year-old singer, dancer and actress is slim, but also strong and busty (and bootylicious, too) at the same time. But before you run off thinking that her body is perfection , she says that’s not true. There are things about being very lean that she struggles with just like we all have issues with our own figures. In fact, she says there have been opportunities she’s wanted that she’s needed to put weight on for and hasn’t necessarily been able to. Want Exclusives First? Click Here To Sign Up For Our Newsletter! “People may say I have a perfect body, but I have certain insecurities too,” she told Us Weekly recently. “You know what’s crazy? A lot of people think, ‘Yeah your body is cool,’ but, like, there’s been plenty of roles where it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, you have to gain weight’ and it’s very hard for me to gain weight, you know what I’m saying?” In fact, Teyana says she sometimes loses weight unexpectedly and at her already small size, it’s not something she’s comfortable with. “It’s not easy, or I lose weight for any little thing and I’m already small,” she said, “I can’t afford to lose any more weight, but that’s just my personal thing.” SEE ALSO:  Too Cute! Teyana Taylor & Iman Shumpert’s Share Photos From Daughter’s First Week Of School The star likely finds herself smaller than expected on the scale sometimes because of her intense performances and even more strenuous practice schedule, which she told the publication can last for quite a few hours. “I love to dance, I love to rehearse, I love to practice period,” she said. “I can rehearse for 12 hours.” SEE ALSO:  Teyana Taylor Doesn’t Eat Vegetables And 9 Other Stars Who Don’t Consume Some Very Surprising Foods She also loves her Fade2Fit dance workout, which she says is for people who want to get moving but don’t want to go to the gym. Author Alice Walker Responds To Homophobic Actress Fired From ‘The Color Purple’ Production

See the article here:

Source: The Washington Post / Getty The U.K. production of The Color Purple has been steeped in controversy after old homophobic tweets from the lead actress Oluwaseyi “Semi” Omooba resurfaced. She once wrote on Facebook, “I do not believe you can be born gay, and I do not believe homosexuality is right.” When she refused to apologize for her statements, she was let go from the production of The Color Purple and her agency. She proceeded to sue her former agency, Michael Garrett Associates, for religious discrimination. The ironic point of the whole situation is the character Omooba was meant to play, Celie, is known to be a queer character. Now, the author of the book in which the play is based, Alice Walker , is speaking out about Omooba’s firing. According to Shadow and Act , Walker defended Omooba’s dismissal from the U.K. production of her classic 1982 novel of the same name. “It is safe to say, after a frightful life serving and obeying abusive men, who raped in place of ‘making love,’ my grandmother, like Celie, was not attracted to men,” Walker said. “She was, in fact, very drawn to my grandfather’s lover, a beautiful woman who was kind to her, the only grown person who ever seemed to notice how remarkable and creative she was. In giving Celie the love of this woman, in every way love can be expressed, I was clear in my intention to demonstrate that she too, like all of us, deserved to be seen, appreciated, and deeply loved by someone who saw her as whole and worthy.” When addressing Omooba’s past remarks, Walker said: “Playing the role of Celie while not believing in her right to be loved, or to express her love in any way she chooses, would be a betrayal of women’s right to be free. As an elder, I urge all of us to think carefully about what I am saying, even as you, Oluwaseyi Omooba, sue the theatre company for voiding your contract.” Welp… The legend has spoken. Time will tell if Omooba will get the message.

#MeToo Founder Tarana Burke Has A Message For Comedians Trying To Return After Sexual Misconduct

Read the original:

Source: Bennett Raglin / Getty Tuesday marks the two year anniversary #MeToo went viral bringing wider attention to victims of sexual assault and misconduct. Though 2017 was the viral moment, the #MeToo work has been carrying on since before 2017 thanks to founder Tarana Burke . For the movement’s two year anniversary, Burke is reflecting on its impact and how it’s shifted the ways people talk about sexual violence. In an interview with Teen Vogue , one standout moment came when Burke was asked about the “gray areas” of sexual assault and misconduct. One person who came to mind was Aziz Ansari , who was accused of sexual misconduct for repeatedly pressuring a woman to have sex. Eventually, Ansari issued a statement saying he took time to “process” the woman’s side of the story, and he also addressed the incident in his Netflix stand-up special “Aziz Ansari: Right Now”. Burke spoke on this and even brought up Dave Chappelle , who notoriously made jokes about Michael Jackson and child molestation in his latest Netflix special “Stick & Stones”. “Can I say something about that in terms of accountability,” Burke started. “I have been thinking a lot about Dave Chappelle and Aziz Ansari because they both have these comedy specials, right? And I know Dave Chappelle wasn’t accused of anything, whatever, but he decided he was just going to go down this road….But some people are not going to be comfortable with what I’m going to say. I’ve said this in places where people are like, ‘I don’t agree with you,’ but I think Aziz Ansari’s response… has anybody seen his stand-up? He didn‘t act like it didn’t happen. He talked very clearly about what his year’s been like, and not from a like, ‘Yo, this has been a really messed up year,’ but like, ‘what did I learn? What did I do? How did I try to make this situation, turn this situation around?’ He was humble.” Burke then went on to compare him to fellow comedian Louis C.K.   who was also accused of sexual misconduct and is now trying to make a comeback. “And I said, you know, ‘Why can’t these other folks at least have some lessons,” Burke said. “I’m just so angry at the folks who kind of hide for six months, and then peek their head, like Louis C.K . Louis C.K. is an assh*le.” She continued: “And I’m going to tell you, he was one of my favorite comedians, right? I loved his show, I love Louis C.K., but you going to come back and start talking about transphobes, and children getting shot, what are we supposed to do?” Finally, Burke asserted: “And this is the thing about accountability with these public figures that I think they don’t get. You want my support, right? I don’t tell anybody what it should look like, but for me, when I think about accountability, you start with the person you harmed first. So before you bring your face out into the public or whatever, did you go to the people who you caused harm to and ask them what they need? Did you try to have a process, any kind of process, restorative process, with them? And they may say, “I don’t want that. I don’t want anything to do with you,” which is their right. But you have to start there. The second layer of that is, you want me to laugh at your jokes, buy your tickets, watch your specials, and you think you’re not accountable to me, and my values are not supposed to come into play on how I spend my money and my time? You are mistaken.” SEE ALSO: Questlove Clears Up Comments He Made About Iggy Azalea And Cultural Appropriation Police Interrogation Firm Sues Ava DuVernay And Netflix Over ‘When They See Us’
