This week we sit down with the actors behind the film “The Curse of La Llorona” that claims to bring the iconic legend to life in a terrifying original horror film set in the world kicked off by The Conjuring. The movie takes place in Los Angeles, Calfornia in the 70s and follows Anna Tate-Garcia played by Linda Cardellini. She’s a social worker who is struggling to balance her job and raising her kids because she is still coping with the loss of her husband, a cop who was murdered on the job. Determined to keep up with the responsibilities of her job Anna gets called to the home of Patricia Alvarez played by Patricia Velasquez, and finds her two young sons locked in a closet, she interprets their terrified mother’s desperate efforts to keep them locked away as a dangerous sign of abuse, when in reality she is protecting them from La Llorona, but since Anna is a skeptic she doesn’t believe her and takes her kids away. This sparks a series of events that make a horror film that does its job. Scare the screams out of you. I sat down with Breaking Bad’s Raymond Cruz, Linda Cardellini, and Patricia Valesquez to break down their movie. We talked about balancing acting vs really being scared and Patricia explained that with a movie like this, there is no playing because you’re really scared. Patricia also told me that La Llorona is real, “It’s only La Llorona, she was the biggest one. We really believe in her. Your parents will keep you at home. When it gets dark come in or La Llorona will get you. Listen to your parents of La Llorona will get you!” Raymond chimed in saying Latin kids have a bigger monster to worry about saying, “Nowadays… There’s Trump.” It’s an obvious dig at Donald Trump immigration policy that’s ripping Mexican kids away from their parents and locking them in cages. After that, we kept the politics out of this interview and focused on the scariest movies of all time in which we talked about The Exorcist, Jaws and The Nightmare On Elm Street franchise. Judging from these three films I think that’s the reason why every movie in The Conjuring Universe holds weight because their actors know what it’s like to be scared by a movie. Go see The Curse Of La Llorona hitting theaters everywhere this Friday, it’s definitely worth your money.

Source: Noel Vasquez / Getty The death of Nipsey Hussle has impacted many , even those that didn’t really know him at all. Case in point with Reggie Bush, the retired NFL athlete, felt the need to start a GoFundMe page to help the late rappers two children—but Nip’s business partner Karen Civil quickly shut that down. Bush announced he was starting the “Nipsey Legacy Fund” and kicked things off by pledging $10,000 hoping his followers and friends will help raise the other $90,000. While this was a noble act on his part, it would seem the former NFL running back did not have permission from Hussle’s family to start the GoFundMe page. On Saturday (Apr.13) Civil tweeted Bush asking him to remove the page telling the former New Orleans Saint that he was overstepping. She revealed that he did ask for permission, but the family said no, he went and did it anyway. Bush did remove the page but did not remove the Tweet from off his timeline sparking the business maven to tell him to take it down. “Please remove this tweet as this was privately asked of you already. The family nor Lauren requested this and you did it anyway” Bush replied back stating he only did it as an act of kindness. “Wait what??? Nah that’s actually INCORRECT check your facts what would I gain from this @ KarenCivil ?And this is the very last time I will speak on it out of RESPECT for everyone! God Bless you!” Civil retorted the kind gesture was appreciated but he should have also respected the family’s wishes. “I never spoke on what you had to gain, Simply asked you to remove the tweet, just like you did the gofundme. You asked prior to do this and was told no by family, but did it anyway. You never once spoke to Nip in the gym the many times you saw each other.” She continued, “I understand you’re motivated and want to help, but there are other ways. His family already asked you NOT to do this. People are literally grieving over a husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and someone who meant so much too so many people. This is not the time for this.” Bush did finally take down the Tweet, but he did point out he had someone’s permission to start the page. “My time is already busy as it is I would never even put forth the effort to take on a project like this unless I got someones blessing!!,” he said via Instagram. “Come on now! That just sound crazy! Please CHECK THE FACTS! And YES I didn’t know him that had zero to do with the cause? It was about doing something positive and giving back and paying homage to a man that stood for so much and was a leader in the community and over came the obstacles of the hood and made it big while never losing sight of where he came from! That is hard to do and a lot of young black kids never make it out of that!” Karen Civil was instrumental in putting together Hussle’s beautiful memorial service at the Staple’s Center. If anyone would know what the family of the late rapper wants it would be her. Still, RIP Nipsey. — Photo: Noel Vasquez / Getty
Source: Federico Candoni / EyeEm / Getty In a video released Monday, Danquirs Franklin appeared to be placing a gun on the ground at the time a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer fatally shot him last month. Per The Charlotte Observer , CMPD released body-worn camera footage of the March 25 confrontation between Franklin and Officer Wende Kerl. Kerl shot and killed Franklin in the parking lot of a west Charlotte area Burger King. The body cam footage shows that she and another officer instructed Franklin to put the gun down more than 15 times in the roughly 40 seconds before he was shot. The gun is not visible during that span of the video. Franklin appeared to have pulled out the gun and was holding it, though he was not pointing it at anyone before Kerl fired her gun. The 27-year-old Franklin is shown squatting next to an open car door. Another man sits in the passenger seat and Kerl is standing less than a car-length away from Franklin. The male officer yells at him to put the gun down and Kerl yells at Franklin as well. Moments later, Kerl fires two shots, killing Franklin. Moments after he’s shot, he turns his face toward the officers and told them, “You told me to…” The video cuts out as he slumps over. It is all the body camera footage that was recorded at the shooting. According to 911 calls, two women called and said they saw a man with a gun at the Burger King. “A customer came up here and he walked behind the counter to fight an employee,” said the first 911 caller, who was inside the restaurant. “He got a gun! He got a gun!” she said, adding that he was pointing it at employees. It is unclear if this latest officer-involved shooting will evoke memories of the violent protests of 2016 after the killing of Keith Lamont Scott and how no charges were filed against the officer involved. However, community activists are cautious. “It’s sad it had to take the city being afraid of another uprising for them to really hear us,” Kass Ottley told The Observer . “The reception was really different. It’s a tiny step. There’s so much to get done and we’re running out of time.” RELATED: White Police Officer Who Shot And Killed Terence Crutcher Will Face No Civil Rights Charges RELATED: Ex-NFL Seattle Seahawks Player Shot To Death Over Parking Spot RELATED: Fayetteville Police Find Man Shot To Death In Vehicle

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Tonight’s episode of Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta might be one of the silliest ever. EVER . Colorism was the main topic of discussion, but it’s a topic that just can’t be tackled in a one-hour vapid ratchet show, and that is why it was silly. You can’t squeeze a discussion as deep as colorism, which people are still in denial about, in a short amount of time on a TV show. Hold that thought because the other annoying topic is Tokyo Vanity’’s weight. Her ridiculous meet up with Sierra got her thinking about exploring her options with a personal trainer. She still gets defensive though, slightly less defensive, but she still pushes back when the personal trainer explains that just because she doesn’t have any issues now doesn’t mean they won’t sneak up on her by the time she’s middle age. Then they go over her awful eating habits and she seems frustrated by all the crappy things she can’t eat. This all seems forced. Tokyo Vanity will lose weight when and if she wants to. Now let’s get back to the colorism situation. As we all know, Spice pulled this stunt where she fake lightened her skin to go along with her song “Black Hypocrisy.” Mimi and Rasheeda had a hissy fit because they couldn’t believe that Spice would want to lighten her skin. Spice got irritated with them because they’re light-skinned and didn’t seem to understand how badly dark skinned women are treated (and yes, we know that light-skinned people experience colorism too). Later on, Spice reveals her plan to Joc and he encourages her to move forward. Then Joc links with Kirk and Scrappy for a ki ki and this turns into a terrible attempt to address colorism. Basically, Joc mentions what Spice is trying to do. Then Kirk says that as a dark-skinned man he can attest to people of lighter complexions being treated better and that colorism is very real. Then Joc asks if they would “smash” Spice. Scrappy and Kirk don’t answer the question, which could just be editing. Joc says he’d smash Spice whether she was light or dark. But like, Joc isn’t very picky so, oookay. That was not a shot at Spice because she’s gorgeous. But like, come on, we know how Joc loves the ladies—any ladies. Then we take a quick detour into Kirk’s new fake storyline. Basically, Kirk and Rahseeda are so concerned about Jasmine not being a “proper” mother to Kannon that Kirk pays her grandmother and mother a visit. He complains to them that Kannon spends too much time with them and that Jasmine parties all the time. Jasmine’s mom and grandmother tell her that Kirk planned to visit so she joins the discussion and shuts him down. Basically, she said Kirk is fake and doing this for TV and doesn’t spend enough time around her or Kannon to know what she does. Also, she feels like Rahseeda is the one who put the bug in his ear to even do this. She is correct. This is fake but Kirk and Rasheeda claim they want Kirk to work on being around Kannon more. Next, Mimi takes Spice on a Black History tour with the goal of showing her that “black people fought to be proud of the skin they’re in.” They end up in a Madame CJ Walker museum where they learn about Madame CJ Walker’s innovations, but they also looked at tools and products that were invented to help Black people get straighter hair. You know, to assimilate. Also, let’s not act like some of the very Black leaders who are revered in history weren’t colorist themselves. Look at the wives of a lot of the prominent figures in the Civil Rights Movement and even the Black Panther party. It ain’t no coincidence that many of them were light-skinned. *Coughs* Colorism. But going back to the museum. Spice calls out the hypocrisy in even the tour guide trying to skate over the assimilation issue and mentions that hair texture hate is also a component of self-hate as well, which fits into her Black hypocrisy theme. Mimi and the tour guide basically keep trying to convince Spice that these people were really just trying to control how they were perceived and nothing deeper, which pisses Spice off even more, rightfully so, especially because her home country is a hotbed for skin bleaching. This session ends after Spice and Mimi get into a heated argument again. Dense Mimi just won’t let Spice live in the truth. However, in fairness, though, Mimi (and everyone else) thinks that Spice is going to bleach her skin for real, for real. So that’s part of where the concern is coming from, but it’s not helpful to try to act like Spice is being ridiculous about colorism when what she’s saying is true. And then, the episode winds down with everyone getting the social media notifications about Spice launching her stunt. We all remember that photo that she posted on her IG that had everyone shook. Basically, Spice’s message is anti-colorism and pro-Black people loving the complexions they were born with. You gotta listen to the words in her song. View this post on Instagram Only if they would take the time out to actually “listen” to the words #Blackhypocrisy A post shared by Grace Hamilton (@spiceofficial) on Apr 10, 2019 at 11:14am PDT Anyway, Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta returns next week, and seemingly back to the ratchet rivers and lakes that they’re used to.
