8 Things We Learned From J. Cole’s Interview With ‘GQ’

Visit link:

Source: Jeff Hahne / Getty For most of his career, J. Cole has been known to be one of the most, if not the most, reserved artist in the rap game. From rarely giving interviews to lack of collaborations with other big-name rappers, everyone knew that the Dreamville honcho kept to himself and that’s just how it was and probably always will be. But according to him, it’s a new day and the biggest Hip-Hop name to ever come out of North Carolina (Sorry Petey Pablo) has made it a point to change his ways as “I realize, like, memories come from getting out of my comfort zone—great memories.” Looking to turn over a new leaf in this new year, Cole starts off by giving a rare interview to GQ where he talks everything from Hip-Hop stardom to fatherhood. From explaining how he really felt about the everyone referring to him as the first rapper to go platinum without any features to getting offered a record deal from one of the biggest names in the NBA, J. Cole revealed some pretty interesting stuff to GQ’s Allison P. Davis. Here are the 8 things we learned from J. Cole in GQ . — Photo: Getty

See the original post here:

Source: PYMCA / Getty Vince Staples is one of the game’s most underrated rappers and while many people continue to sleep on his music, maybe they’ll appreciate what he has to offer in the form of his new animated TV series. Beginning on April 7, the LBC MC will be starring in and executive producing a new show on Cartoon Network’s [adult swim] block, Lazor Wulf . Judging by the title you’d be right to guess that the cartoon stars Staple as a wolf with a laser on his back, but what you might not have guessed is that the show will also feature the WWE’s Ettore “Big E” Ewen and DRAM as, well, we’re not too sure. The first trailer to the upcoming series doesn’t offer much info on what it’ll be about other than it’ll feature people, talking animals, and a moody God. Check out the first trailer for Lazor Wulf below and let us know if it’s something you’ll be checking for come April 7. — Photo: Getty

Don’t Be A Creep: Twitter Calls Out Kodak Black For Sexually Harassing Young M.A

Continue reading here:

Source: Splash News / Splash News Kodak Black is bringing all the heat to himself following his creepy courting of Young M.A . While Kodak is confessing his lust towards the New York rapper in songs and a recent video, many people are calling sexual harassment against him, especially for a guy who already has sexual abuse accusations aimed at him. The whole Kodak Black-Young M.A talk started in February when Black commented under a picture of M.A and Nicki Minaj saying, “Both Of Y’all a Get It.” Black then kept pushing his sentiments in his music. On his latest single “Pimpin Ain’t Eazy” he raps, “I go Young M.A on these dumb b*****s/Like a dyke man, you ni**as can’t f**k with me.,” and then follows with “I’m f**kin’ Young M.A, long as she got a c**chie.” In another part of the song, he also raps, “I swapped out the spice for the bud/F**kin’ on a dyke, I’m in love. I’m f**kin’ on a dyke, she the one.” Black’s fans hyped up his vomit-inducing “bars” even more by spamming M.A with talk about the song. M.A clearly had enough of the harassment when she went on Instagram Live on Sunday to talk about how annoying Black’s followers have become. “And y’all keep talking about this Kodak situation. Y’all n****s is weird, bro,” M.A said. “And it be n****s on that sh*t. What’s wrong with y’all? Is y’all n****s alright? Come on, bro. Like obviously the n***a’s weird…” M.A went on to say that she and Kodak had a show in the same city, and she’ll talk to him in person if she gets the chance. View this post on Instagram TSR STAFF: Tanya P.! @tanyaxpayne _________________________ #YoungMA responds to #KodakBlack after he included her in some NSFW lyrics on his song ‘Pimpin’ Ain’t Eazy.’ ____________________________ In the song, Kodak raps: “I don’t even see the confusion, I’m f****ing #YoungMa, as long as she got a coochie.” ___________________________ Needless to say Young MA wasn’t feeling the line, and said she might even pull up on him in Arizona. Both coincidentally have a show out there so we’ll see if this gets squashed or not (SWIPE) A post shared by The Shade Room (@theshaderoom) on Mar 17, 2019 at 11:07am PDT   In another Instagram Live video, M.A, who is openly gay, clarified that a lot of her frustrations were aimed at Kodak’s followers: “They always take sh*t out of proportion. They always try to take sh*t and make it something that it ain’t,” M.A explained. “In the live video… I’m literally talking about the people in the comments… and I’m like ‘Why y’all still on that? Get off that situation. Y’all d*ckeating.’ I know I’m a female stupid… but at the end of the day, that’s not my preference… that’s why I said y’all weird.” M.A’s comments unfortunately didn’t stop Black from hurling more inappropriate comments about the situation in an Instagram Live video of his own. “I do more good than I do bad and more people love me than hate me,” Kodak said before slipping in another comment about Young M.A. “I’m talking ’bout, how you a girl but don’t want your p***y penetrated?” View this post on Instagram #PressPlay: Oop! #KodakBlack responds to #YoungMA (view earlier posts) A post shared by The Shade Room (@theshaderoom) on Mar 18, 2019 at 5:52am PDT   Twitter gladly explained to Kodak how having a vagina doesn’t necessarily get you excited about the peen. Folks especially laid out how they wouldn’t let Kodak anywhere near their privates when he’s already awaiting trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl. Kodak Black has rape allegations against him and really just said “how you a girl but don’t want yo pussy penetrated” on IG Live with his whole chest. That nigga guilty, your honor. — GIRLS OUT NOW! ‘Detective Pikachu’ Is The Live-Action Film That Every Pokémon Fan Dreamed Of

Go here to read the rest:

Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. Live-action films are very much a thing now, but very few of them are as highly anticipated as Detective Pikachu. The long overdue Pokemon adventure hits theaters this May, and we got a chance to visit the set of the Rob Letterman directed flick. Ryan Reynolds stars as the infamous pocket monster, Pikachu, whose CGI form looks amazingly realistic yet light and cartoonish at the same time. Justice Smith also stars in the film as as Tim Goodman, a former Pokémon trainer looking for his missing father. Goodman is also Detective Pikachu’s partner, and the only person that can hear hear him speak. We spoke to Justice on the London, England set of DP and he dished more on what is was like having an animated co-star and how much he enjoyed working with Ryan Reynolds. “Ryan is awesome, he’s hilarious. So, we basically went through the whole film with Ryan on a soundstage, with Ryan in a motion-capture helmet. And, so I got to see how he improvised, what he was gonna do, what he was gonna say, how he was gonna act. And then we have a reader who reads Ryan’s lines, but I essentially have to remember what Ryan did on the day. And then do my side of it, when we’re shooting.” Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. “Things change around, and they’re gonna fix some stuff in post with Ryan, but for the most part it comes down to memory. We also recorded the tape so I can listen to them back, and remember what he did. But it’s just the whole team trying to work together, and they have been. It’s a really difficult beast. But it was insane. I can’t even explain it. It’s my childhood dream come true” Speaking of the set —production designer Nigel Phelps brought the Pokemon Universe to life in ways that will your mind when you see the film. According to Phelps, he made it a point to not borrow  architecture or inspiration from any of the fictional cities in the 2016 Japanese video from whence the film was based on. Instead, he opted for more realistic details, such as tall skyscrapers and underground fight clubs, that makes the viewer feel like the Pokemon Universe is an actual place on the planet. “We’re trying to make a very realistic film, albeit with the most strange cast of characters that make it very unworldly. We’re trying to create a world where, in the fantastic beasts sense of the word, we’ve got a very realistic environment, where these amazing creatures can exist in a believable fashion.” Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. “The color patterns have been quite neutral, so lots of grays and blacks and whites, to help offset the very, the pattern of colors that all the creatures have. And a lot of them are really tiny as well, so it got right down with all the floors and a lot of the ground surfaces, so that you get, any color that we have on the light stuff is reflected on the floor. All the streets and the exterior stuff is in and around the city of London and Shoreditch.” The fashion in the film is pretty next level, too!  One of the scenes fight club moment in the Pokemon Battle Arena a.k.a Rhyme City (ran by Charizard’s owner Sebastian)  aesthetically called for very grungy yet kitchy vibes. Costume Designer Susie Harmon told us, “It’s very, probably the most creative out-there look. Some punk meets goth meets Tokyo street fashion; anything basically. RnB, you name it. Everything just mashed up together, underground fight club basically. Did a lot of research in the anime, to get a sense of what the key looks were.” “Especially for the lead actors, just to give it a grounded but that slight cartoony feel about it. Just to give it the silhouette and how the guys tend to wear their clothes in the anime, and the women, with those lovely little skirts, and the hair. So yeah, definitely to get a sense of fully anime, rather than the games.” Earlier this month, it was announced that Detective Pikachu will also be adapted into a graphic novel . According to Legendary Comics, an official movie graphic novel titled POKÉMON Detective Pikachu will debut online and in stores in summer 2019, following the film’s release. There’s also a sequel to the 2019 film already in the works. Detective Pikachu will definitely make all of your nostalgic, 90’s, Pokemon dreams come.  Don’t miss out on the live-action when hits theaters on May 10.

Put Some Respek on Her Name: Was Maya Angelou’s Response To This Girl Rude?

Read the original:

Source: Karega Kofi Moyo / Getty Friday morning, a video of the late, great, and ever-so-eloquent Dr. Maya Angelou surfaced where she corrects a young woman who her calls her “Maya.” And for some reason, the internet has become divided over it. Please know that Maya Angelou is trending nationally because there are some young folks who are offended that she directed a young woman to call her Ms. Angelou instead of Maya in a 20-year-old clip. We are doomed. pic.twitter.com/XD1odHh0cV — Yashar Ali (@yashar) March 15, 2019 In the clip, the young woman tells the moderator she has a question for “Maya” regarding interracial relationships. Maya says calmly, “Thank you. And first, I’m Ms. Angelou. I’m not Maya.” The girl repeats Angelou, to which Angelou replies “Yes ma’am.” “I’m 62 years old.” She continues.” I’ve lived so long and tried so hard that a young woman like you, or any other, has no license to come up to me and call me by my first name. That’s first. Also, because at the same time, I’m your mother, I’m your auntie, I’m your teacher, I’m your professor. See?” Now, I can’t believe we have to unpack this, but here we are. The young girl in this clip was by no means trying to be disrespectful, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t. In today’s society, we need to own up to hurting, angering, or disrespecting someone else even if it was not the intention. Angelou is accomplished and deserves to be called whatever she pleases. For anyone taken aback by this legendary black woman, elderly black woman, educated black woman asserting her presence and brilliance to the youth and be it anyone else who is watching, you have a clear misunderstanding of where and how respect is derived. Angelou did not disrespect the young girl, humiliate her, or anything seemingly close to that. This moment, like any other moment with Ms. Angelou, is a teaching moment. TBH, the young girl does not appear to be as rattled as the internet, with some users calling Angelou rude. Son Maya Angelou didn’t say anything about respecting your elders, she said “you don’t have the LICENSE to call me that” and that was fucking rude — The Many Faced Gawd (@KarlynMuva) March 15, 2019 Maya Angelou was rude af. There I said it. https://t.co/AIIltIjCiq — Camille (@ceedoesitbest) March 15, 2019 Rude. Tired of old people feeling superior for no reason, she knew it was wrong so she apologized at the end of the show. — moni (@naturefairyknj) March 15, 2019 While others were shocked that some youngsters believed they could call Angelou, let alone any older individual, by their first name. if you think Maya Angelou is in the wrong you can unfollow me now, go to your nearest purveyor of LEGOs, purchase several, return to your domicile, distribute the LEGOs across the floor, remove your shoes and socks, and walk across said LEGOs — wikipedia brown is voting for toni (@eveewing) March 15, 2019 And many wanted to let Angelou’s name rest in power. Maya Angelou is dead she is the literal definition of unbothered can y’all stop trying to drag a new dead person every week when you’re bored — Ira Madison III (@ira) March 15, 2019 I will physically fight anyone trying to drag Maya Angelou. — Preston Mitchum (@PrestonMitchum) March 15, 2019 P.S. She even apologized to the young girl in second clip making its rounds on the net. Later in the video, Maya Angelou apologized to the young girl for being short with her so everyone calling people “sensitive” for noticing the disrespect in her initial response can relax lol pic.twitter.com/fScII5YQvS — kae (@sportyidk) March 15, 2019 Regardless, this bit of backlash highlights a bigger issue and that’s the blatant disregard and disrespect towards one another – especially towards black women! When we assert ourselves we are rude, angry, and every other abrasive word even if the message we convey is with a calm tone. Angelou worked hard for her titles and even without them, she’s our elder so put some respek on her name and let the legend rest. Fortunately, she has already been released and is under the care of her team. Reports TMZ : Law enforcement sources tell us police and EMS responded to Paris’ LA home at 7:30 AM. We’re told Michael Jackson’s only daughter slit her wrists. Our sources say she was transported to a hospital and placed on 5150 hold. She’s currently in stable condition. Sources with knowledge tell us Paris did this in direct response to the allegations made against her father in “Leaving Neverland” — a documentary in which Wade Robson and James Safechuck accuse MJ of molesting them as children. As we reported … Paris was standing firm behind her dad and maintaining his innocence, even though she hadn’t seen the doc yet. We’re told the Jackson kids have been in turmoil over the renewed allegations … and that they feel the doc was one-sided and unfair.
