In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Nicci Gilbert, is sharing clips from a 2016 documentary she produced From The Bottom Up , about stars who have made comebacks after falling into obscurity during the course of their careers. In one portion of the film, Sara Stokes and KeKe Wyatt speak about the domestic violence they experienced at the hands of their intimate partners, KeKe’s first ex-husband and Stokes’ current husband, Tony Stokes, at the time. Sara : Jesus is good because I have been through some stuff, girl. It’s all out there. That’s another thing, I know me and you have been through similar things when it comes to the domestic violence thing or whatever the heck.But honest to God, how the heck did you deal. I’ve been called crazy. KeKe : My kids. Sara : They get it at school too though. ‘Oh your mom is insane.’ Your daddy be whipping your momma ass. KeKe : I’m the one that’s crazy because I stabbed him. And I did. I hear my infant baby in the other room, screaming, crying mommy. And I got this dude choking me. He’s high. He done been out on a binge. I had no idea this dude did drugs. So I find out he’s a crackhead on Christmas Eve. And then he comes home and he’s pissed off because I showed up at his cousin’s house and I embarrassed him. And so he decided he wanted to take it out on me with these here. And he had been drinking so he had that liquid courage. Which got him stabbed. Sara : This is what happened with my story. Me and my husband in California , you know we moved from Michigan. We had gone out there to the hot tub. My husband, being silly, ended up trying to throw me in the pool. I was like, ’Heck Nah. It was freezing. So I tired to dart away and slid and BOOM hit my head on the concrete and slide. I ended up busting my head and after that, I don’t remember anything. My kids started to scream because I didn’t know but it was blood all over my face. Because when I hit the concrete, I scrapped all of my skin off. Everybody thought he whipped my ass. With this last situation, I went to jail for two and half months for the domestic violence. I was like, ‘I hate you man.’ Because I felt like you should have been here or at least your butt in jail too with me. I felt like me and him together, if we didn’t change the situation, change ourselves it was just going to continue. KeKe : Well from woman to woman, keep yourself safe and your babies. Sara was arrested again in 2014 for another fight with her husband. It was a violation of her probation and she spent 93 days in jail. Since this clip was recorded, Stokes has divorced her abusive husband, Tony Stokes and her father was sentenced to 30 years in prison for abusing another child. Later, in the teaser, Stokes speaks about the abuse she saw her mother endure and the sexual molestation she experienced at the hands of her mother’s boyfriend and her biological father. According to The Daily Mail , Stokes went to live with her biological father after she told her stepmother of the abuse she experienced at the hands of her mother’s boyfriend. Tragically, her father ended up violating her in the same way. ‘I was like, ‘Yes! I’ve got all these Barbies and Cabbage Patch dolls and all these nice clothes, and I thought it was great — until I ended up being abused by my father,” Sara said, ‘I remember him throwing me down the hallway by my hair, knocking me out. … He was just really, really mean.’ ‘He had built this image of perfection on the outside, but on the inside, it was just chaos,’ Sara said. ‘When I was 12 years old, he ended up molesting me, too. That was the point when all trust went out the window for everybody, especially men. I just felt so hurt. It felt like a gunshot to my heart because I couldn’t believe this man I looked up to from when I was 5 years old, me thinking that he was my protector ends up doing the same thing.’ Sara turned to music to escape the pain of the betrayal. She sang in church choirs and in talent competitions. Eventually, she moved back in with her mother. But at 17, she met her husband Tony Stokes. The two married two years later. Deandre Somerville, 21, overslept and missed his August appointment which led to his arrest in court. Palm Beach County Circuit Judge John Kastrenak saw fit to give Somerville, a college student who has never been in trouble, was given 10 days in jail, 150 hours of community service, ordered to write an apology, and one year of probation. The sentencing prompted outrage on social media with many stating the judge went overboard. Those cries were heard as the judge lowered Somerville’s sentence although, adding insult to injury, he wants the man to serve as a spokesperson for the seriousness and responsibility of jury duty according to a report from the Sun-Sentinel . NFL.com is reporting that the controversial wide receiver has a filed a grievance against the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots . The former wide out is seeking to recoup almost 40 million dollars in his unpaid salary. From Oakland specifically he has requested monies deducted due to disciplinary penalties, a week of salary when he was abruptly dropped from Oakland and voided guarantees. His complaint against the Patriots states includes salary not paid to him from week 1 of the 2019 season and the balance of the contract. Even though the Raiders made Brown the highest-paid receiver he had a very tumultuous year off the field. He allegedly confronted his then general manager Mike Mayock in a hostile manner which resulted him in being terminated even before he played one game for the AFC West squad. He then signed with the Patriots a week later amidst allegations of rape and sexual assault. He would be cut shortly after when it was reported that he sent texts intimidating a witness related to a separate case. On September 22 he took to his Twitter account to vent his frustration claiming he will never play for the NFL again and also allude to this recent grievance filing. Source: Vh1 / VH1 It has been a rough season for Brittany B on Love and Hip-Hop Hollywood. She’s not really meshing well with some of the other cast members and it’s not hard to see why. Simply stated, she’s annoying. This woman compared herself to Rosa Parks. We shouldn’t be surprised because she also acted like she had better vocals than Lyrica only to sing and sound like trash. I digress. Basically, we pick up tonight’s episode with the road trip from hell. Apple Watts, Micky Munday, Brittany B, Daniel Gibson, Zell Swag, and Paris were headed to Vegas in an RV but could barely leave Los Angeles before the shenanigans ensued. Zell Swag and Paris kept beefing with Brittany B and it got to the point where Paris and Brittany were almost fighting so Apple and Brittany stepped off the bus to cool down. Apple wants to be friends with everyone but Brittany B is her responsibility because she invited her on the trip so now it’s kind of her beef too but she does try to calm Brittany down and that’s when Brittany’s delusions of grandeur surface again. She says she’s like a 2020 Rosa Parks so she’s going to get back on the bus and not budge. Like, why? Anyway, she gets back on the bus. Producers manage to get Zell Swag off the bus because they know he’s just going to poke again and Brittany actually does try to be classy. With Zell off the bus, she apologizes to Paris for being shady toward her and says she never had an issue but Paris won’t let it go. She wants to know why Brittany is apologizing not that Zell is gone and it escalates onces again .Paris tosses a drink at her and starts swinging. These people are like toddlers. Anyway, Paris and Zell Swag roll to Vegas in a separate car. The point of this trip is for them to go to do multiple things. Apple’s family reunion is there and she hasn’t seen them in a while, and B2k is performing on their last leg of the Millennium tour. Brittany, Apple, Micky, and Daniel get to the house they rented first and find Lyrica who is smart. She flew to Vegas to avoid the bus drama. Anyway, she’s there because Zell invited her so she calls him to see where he is and things go left again. Lyrica calls Zell on a video call so Brittany can hear him talking smack about her. By this point, they’re not far from the house. Lyrica lets him say what he has to say then hangs up. Brittany decides to start going in on her as if it’s her fault Zell is being a jerk, so their situation gets escalated and Brittany finally just gets escorted to a hotel. Apple follows her friend and things calm down just as Zell and Paris walk in. The episode ends on a positive note. Apple gets to see her family, particularly her son whom she hasn’t seen in a while, and she urges him to break the cycle of dysfunction that has plagued their family for generations. In a talk with Shadow and Act for his new movie with Eddie Murphy , “Dolemite Is My Name”, Snipes was asked about the “New Jack City” project. His response? “I’m not associated with it, you know. I’m have nothing to do with it at all,” he said. When pressed about his specific feelings for the flick, Snipes explained: “I think some things should be left alone…if it worked at the time under the circumstances. And the story was built around things that are current. I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating the drug culture. For what? […] I don’t know. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I’ve said no. It’s a done deal, it’s a wrap.” The original “New Jack City” premiered in 1991 and it served as Mario Van Peebles ‘ directorial debut. It told the story of New York City drug lord Nino Brown (Snipes) and the detective, Scotty Appleton ( Ice-T ) who goes undercover to plot his downfall. Along with Snipes and Ice-T starring in the movie, Chris Rock, Michael Michele , and Allen Payne also had significant roles. Deadline made the announcement that the flick would be receiving a reboot, although the writer for the movie, Malcolm M. Mays deemed it a “sequel” on Instagram. Along with being a writer, Mays has also had a reoccurring role on the FX drama “Snowfall,” which also explores the inner workings of the drug world only this time, in L.A. where Mays is from. “New Jack City” has had major cultural impact, especially serving as the launching pad for the acting careers of Rock, Payne and Ice-T. Rock was especially memorable to audiences for his dramatic turn as “Pookie” Benny Robinson, a crack addict who eventually becomes a police informant and infiltrates the Cash Money Brothers gang. The flick was made for an estimated $8 million, according to Deadline, and it grossed around $48 million at the domestic box office. Although Mays is set to pen the script for the sequel, there is no director attached yet. Meanwhile, Mays is gearing up to direct and produce the feature film “Flint,” starring John Ortiz and T.I. The movie will follow a converted ex-con who’s found peace in the Tao principles. He finds himself caught up in a murder mystery set upon by his ex-lover and young mentee. His journey plays out in the backdrop of the Flint, MI water crisis and soon connections are made between the protagonist’s mystery and the water crisis afflicting the community where he grew up.
