Source: David Livingston / Getty Salim Akil Thinks Alleged Mistress’ Lawsuit Is Too Little, Too Late Salim Akil has finally responded to a lawsuit that alleged he abused and stole a script from a former mistress, Amber Dixon Brenner . According to The Blast , the producer/director is demanding his alleged mistress’ lawsuit accusing him of domestic violence be dismissed. In court documents, Akil claims the statute of limitations on Amber Brenner’s claims has passed. He also says Brenner is barred from bringing claims against him due to her own “negligent, intentional or bad faith conduct.” Additionally, Akil is demanding her lawsuit be thrown out and she be made to pay his attorney fees. Yikes! Amber Dixon Brenner initially filed a lawsuit against Akil on November 20th, 2018 that detailed explicit sexual abuse she allegedly endured from him for over a period of TEN YEARS. She also claimed in the lawsuit that she shared a script with him, which he shopped around on her behalf. After months of failed communication, Akil’s show “Love Is____” was picked up by OWN, bearing similarities. Brenner is suing for compensatory damages, emotional distress, attorney fees, and punitive damages. The amount she is asking for is not disclosed in her complaint. Thoughts?

But whether or not you enjoy the holiday, chances are you associate those little candy hearts with February 14th–but this year, thing’s are going to be a little bit different. For the first time since 1866, the world will be celebrating Valentine’s Day without SweetHeart’s Conversation Hearts. The New England Confectionary Company (which you might more commonly know as ‘Necco’) is no longer producing the classic Valentine’s Day candy, which means all of us are going to have to find another way to tell our crush how we feel about them. SweetHearts first began making these ever-popular conversation hearts all the way back in 1866. The operation was then taken over by Necco in 1901, and since then, they’ve become the most popular Valentine’s Day candy in approximately 21 states. Last year, CandyStore.com reported that they were the most popular Valentine’s Day candy in America. With all those statistics going in SweetHearts’ favor–why are they not being sold in 2019? Until 2018, Necco was the oldest continually operating candy company—but in July, the company abruptly closed and announced they needed to sell. Someone either needed to buy all of Necco or purchase the brands individually and in September, Necco was purchased by Round Hill Investments, who then sold the SweetHearts brand to Spangler Candy Company. One thing most people probably don’s know about the popular Valentine’s Day candy is how long they take to produce. Because of the insane timespan it takes to create the supply of conversation hearts, Spangler Candy Company didn’t have enough time to make the hearts for 2019. It took Necco 11 months to produce 8 billion conversation hearts—all of which would be sold in the 6 weeks leading up to the holiday. Since Necco’s factories were closed down in July and Spangler didn’t take over until a few months later in September, they weren’t able to keep up with the insane demand for 2019. But there’s some good news for all the Conversation Heart lovers out there: Spangler’s CEO has already announced the hearts will be back on shelves next year in 2020. CandyStore.com is now reporting that sales of the hearts are down 80 percent from last year, and while you may be able to find a few leftover boxes from 2018, new hearts won’t be hitting shelves at all. If you do find boxes on store shelves—or somewhere online like on Amazon —just keep in mind that these treats have likely been sitting in a warehouse since last year. But all the lovers out there won’t be left completely empty handed for 2019. Sour Patch Kids made their own conversation hearts this year, which could be a great alternative to the classic we’re doing without.

On Wednesday, “WTP” was the latest visual released, and it was filled with ball culture celebration. Balls have been organized by LGBTQ people of color for decades now, and they’re continuing to get more recognition thanks to shows like Pose on FX and My House on Viceland. During a ball, individuals or “houses” (a person’s adopted family) can compete in multiple categories, oftentimes for a cash prize, a trophy and maybe most importantly, “legendary” status. There are dozens of categories participants can walk in, but some of the most important ones fall under titles like Butch Queen (usually gay or queer men), Femme Queen (usually trans women or femmes), and of course voguing. Voguing alone can be broken down into the new way and the old way of dancing. The old way of voguing reached the national spotlight thanks to the 1990 movie Paris is Burning, and one of its main stars was Willi Ninja. Willi’s angular, picturesque and precise style of voguing would go on to influence dancers around the world, and it even landed him appearances in music videos like Janet Jackson ‘s “Alright” and “Escapade.” The old way of voguing received an even bigger spotlight when Madonna released her music video for “Vogue” in 1990. Though the music video has been met with more critical eyes over the years, icons like Luis Xtravaganza and Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza represented for vogue culture in the wildly popular video. As the years progressed, voguing started to evolve into a new way that many people are familiar with today. This style involves more acrobatic moves and difficult executions such as “duck walks,” “dips” or “death drops.” Masters like Dashaun Wesley, who appeared in Teyana Taylor’s video, have help carry on this voguing tradition. Now, with more light being shined on LGBTQ communities of color, voguing has had another resurgence in popular media. Legendary voguers like Leiomy are showing off their skills in Nike commercials… Even hip hop has been bitten by the vogue bug with Q-Tip featuring ball culture in the music video for his song with Demi Lovato “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” Dancer-singers like FKA Twigs have also kept voguing alive by taking it out of its traditional ballroom setting and placing it on the far edges of the world. FKA’s “Glass & Patron” definitely repped for the technique… But no matter how far voguing or ball culture goes, it will forever be the product of queer imagination. It’s dedicated LGBTQ community of color will continue to exemplify those who dared to live, create and of course, have fun.

The Invasion Of Privacy superstar and social media wizard will have a residency at the KAOS club inside the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Page Six reports : On Wednesday, the Palms Casino Resort announced the “Bodak Yellow” rapper will kick off her first residency this spring at KAOS, a dayclub and nightclub slated to open in April, as part of the hotel’s $690 million renovation. Cardi, 26, joins G-Eazy, Kaskade and Skrillex, among additional performers, who will have residencies at KAOS. The venue also reportedly features a rotating 360-degree DJ booth. According to the Associated Press , Cardi is going to takeover the new Las Vegas club. KAOS is an amphitheater-style dayclub and a nightclub that is slated to open its doors in April as part of Palms Casino Resort’s $690 million renovation. The redevelopment of the site will feature brand new state-of-the-art technology performers can use to improve their performances, including a rotating 360-degree DJ booth. Cardi is set to join the likes of KAOS alum including G-Eazy, Kaskade, and Skrillex. Bardi snagging her first Las Vegas residency comes on the heels of the rapper picking up a whopping five Grammy nominations, including one for album of the year for her debut, Invasion of Privacy . The Las Vegas residency isn’t the only first performance-wise Cardi will be experiencing, either. In addition to her nominations, Belcalis will perform at the Grammy Awards for the first time this year. Congratulations to Bardi on all the major success!

Source: Joe Raedle / Getty Man Shoots And Kills Five People Inside Of SunTrust Five people were shot and killed by a 21-year-old man inside of a Sebring, Florida SunTrust bank on Wednesday. Police are calling the crime “senseless”. According to NY Daily News , the man barricaded himself inside the building before surrendering to a SWAT team, authorities said. Zephen Xaver, 21, called 911 just after noon to report that he’d fired shots inside the SunTrust Bank. Unfortunately, negotiations failed to persuade the barricaded man to leave the building. The identities of the victims weren’t immediately released, and investigators didn’t offer an official motive. The SWAT team then entered the bank, and the gunman eventually gave up, police said. He was arrested without injury. “Today’s been a tragic day in our community,” Sebring Police Chief Karl Hoglund told a news conference. “We’ve suffered significant loss at the hands of a senseless criminal doing a senseless crime.” In case you’re curious, here’s a link to his mugshot . Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty He Joins A Long List Of Artist Coming For The Video Game Rappers and viral move-makers alike are continuing their campaign against Fortnite and this time BlocBoy JB is joining the fray. According to TMZ , the Tennessee spitter has filed a lawsuit against Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite , saying they stole his “Shoot” dance. The popular leg and hand-chopping move was featured in BlocBoy’s music video for “Shoot,” and Drake made it even more popular when he performed it at parties and in his “Look Alive” music video with BlocBoy. Fortnite has an identical dance that players can acquire called the “Hype” dance. BlocBoy is calling BS, saying Fortnite didn’t get permission to use a dance he created in their video game. Granted, BlocBoy never copyrighted the dance when Fortnite used it, but he says he’s in the process of getting that done. He’s being repped by Sandy Lal and David L. Hecht , who’s repping other artists and dancers accusing Fortnite of theft , including Alfonso Ribeiro . Ribeiro, who’s forever treasured as Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, filed his lawsuit against Fortnite back in December 2018. He accuses the game of stealing his “Carlton dance” for use in the game. Backpack Kid , who’s behind “The Floss” dance, and 2 Milly , who ushered in the Milly Rock, are also coming for Fortnite ‘s coins. Smh, they better stop playing with these dancers.
