‘Grown-ish’ Teams Up With Scholly App To Pay Off Student Loan Debt

T he Freeform series grown-ish follows the chronicles of students adjusting to life in college and now the show is making the effort to help real-life students. According to Black Enterprise , the show has teamed up with the app Scholly to help students pay off their student loans. @FreeformTV ’s @grownish and scholarship app @MyScholly have partnered up on a program that will pay off up to $125,000 in student loan debt. https://t.co/iZnX9j24kM — Black Enterprise (@blackenterprise) January 3, 2019 The app—which was launched in 2013—was designed to help students find scholarships, the news outlet writes. It was featured on Shark Tank and backed by investors Daymond John and Lori Greiner and subsequently garnered national attention. Cognizant of the burden that student loan debt can have on students, the company has decided to join forces with grown-ish and pay off $125,000 in student loan debt. “Scholly, up until now has focused on helping students avoid student loan debt but, we want to help those who have already amassed a certain amount of student loan debt break free of it,” Scholly founder Chris Gray said in a statement, according to Black Enterprise. “This is just the beginning. Our plan is to do a lot more of these sorts of grants in the near future.” Since its inception, Scholly has helped students across the nation secure $100 million in scholarship money. The winners of the student loan contest will be revealed at the 2019 Freeform Summit. Many companies and institutions have been stepping up to help individuals pay off their student loan debt. Last month Jasmin Ford —a single Black mother from Chicago—had $150,000 of her student loan debt paid off by Fifth Third Bank. After witnessing the impact that the generous act had on Ford, the bank decided to launch a contest similar to grown-ish and Scholly’s. Since then, Ryan has been on a steady path to living out his dream as a tattoo artist and boss. This ambition was passed to him through the support of his departed sister and despite the ups and downs we see on television, Ryan remains relentless. Tonight 9Mag opens a bigger , better and more lavish version of their shop in the west side of Chicago. Our assistant editor Aiesha Arab spoke with Ryan recently about the differences in the operation and appearance of this new 9Mag, his new year’s resolutions, being suddenly single and what’s going on with him growing out his hair? From dealing with 2-3 people to now working with 15 people. BOSSIP: In your bio, we read a quote that said: “it’s lonely at the top.” Do you still feel this way? RH: I don’t desire to be at the top alone, I never have. I think that that statement came from when I started with a bunch of people and then I had some abandon me, and then I prospered through that. The Dems line-up features diverse representatives including Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar,  the first Muslim women elected to Congress, Deb Haaland and Sharice Davids , the first Native women elective to Congress, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , the youngest person elected to Congress at 29 years old. Less than a week in office and the new faces are already proving they’re not your typical Congress people. Rashida Tlaib made this even more apparent when a video surfaced of her dropping the F-bomb to a crowd of supporters. The first two episodes of the Surviving R. Kelly docuseries aired Thursday night on Lifetime. The docuseries features testimonies of women who have had romantic relationships with R. Kelly, stories of his childhood, and stories from people close to the R&B star. Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards is an R&B singer and was R. Kelly’s protégé. He helped shape her career and they became close friends through. Sparkle called into The Morning Heat to talk about the series and how introducing her niece to R. Kelly affected her relationship with her family. On the series, she Sparkle talks about R.Kelly’s behavior towards women and his need for control. She also shares how she introduced her niece to R. Kelly in hopes of him help launch her rap career. But later wished she never had. The series continues tonight on Lifetime.

Via | HipHopDX Nick Cannon  sat down with  VladTV  where he was asked about Gucci Mane’s recent comments regarding Eminem. In an interview with Ricky Smiley last month, the East Atlanta Santa  disputed Em’s title as the king of rap.  The  Wild N’ Out  host previously had a contentious relationship with Slim Shady. In 2009, his then-wife Mariah Carey, who allegedly dated Em at one point, put out a diss track aimed at Shady called “Obsessed.” Cannon recalled a time when Gucci was ready to take care of things for him. Jesus Take The Attendance Sheet: 32-Year-Old Pretends To Be Teen So She Can Enroll In High School

Source: Mary Knox Merrill / Getty She Really Tried It A 32-year-old woman was clearly up to no good when she pretended to be a homeless teen so she could enroll in high school classes. According to WNYT.com , Michaelann Goodrich told the Cairo-Durham School District in New York that she was a 15-year-old named Riley Madison. She reportedly attended one day of high school classes and even rode the bus to and from school on December 20th. She was absent on the 21st and then the holiday break began the next week. Authorities arrested Goodrich on the 28th and charged her with offering a false instrument for filing, falsifying business records and criminal trespassing. Investigators are still unsure of how Goodrich was able to enroll in classes in the first place. District Superintendent Anthony Taibi said administrators immediately felt something wasn’t right. “She could’ve gone in numerous different ways to obtain a degree and we actually found out through the investigation and that she has a high school diploma,” he said. “So that just leads to our investigation to try to figure out what exactly her motive was for attending school.” According to Taibi, the district had to admit Goodrich into the school immediately under the McKinney-Vento Act because she was homeless. Parents in the neighborhood were obviously distraught when they found out about the over-aged high school attendee. “It was kind of unnerving, it could’ve been anybody you know you hear about school shootings all that, could’ve been anybody coming in here trying to get plans of the school,” said Joshua Mack, who has a daughter in middle school. “I mean obviously that wasn’t the case but it could’ve been.” Taibi said that the McKinney-Vento Act should probably be re-assessed after a situation where non-teens can slip through the cracks. Mack agreed with the sentiment. “I don’t know maybe they need to look into the act a little better maybe find out–not throw her in school right away, find out where she came from, find out what’s going on with the family and everything,” Mack said. The case surrounding Goodrich is still active and investigators are asking anyone who may have had contact with Goodrich to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
