The driver remained on the scene while Jimenez died at a nearby hospital. ‘Power’ creator and showrunner, Courtney Kemp, paid tribute to Jimenez in an Instagram post, saying “A few sentences cannot address the love, humor, courage and strength of a man loved by so many. Pedro Jimenez was a beloved member of our crew and here since season one. This is a tragedy for the Power family, and even more for Pedro’s family and friends, who must face the holidays and the coming cold months ahead without him.” View this post on Instagram I have not known how to write this post; social media is an odd, impersonal place for grief, often an odd place to commemorate a life. The setting was the family home’s basement with Lisa’s father speaking with Martin’s father, who was played by legendary actor stage and TV actor Moses Gunn. The two were having a playful discussion about James Moody’s jazz standard, “I’m in the Mood for Love,” and begin signing it when Wilson, accompanied by Phylicia Rashad ‘s Clair Huxtable, strides onto the set, flashed her signature smile and belted out the rest of the song’s lyrics. That prompted Claire to join in as the two ladies walk down the stairs to join their husbands in song, bringing the studio audience to a resounding round of applause when she was finished. An absolutely hilarious clip resurfaced and went viral recently, and it comes from a 2006 episode of her talk show when she had on Pillsbury Bake-Off prize recipient Anna Ginsberg . Anna won $1 million for her chicken recipe, so of course, Oprah had to taste it to see what the hype was all about–but unfortunately for the chef….she wasn’t really feeling it. And just when the internet thought this awkward moment couldn’t get any better, Oprah came through to respond to this now-viral clip, revealing how she really felt once she tasted Anna’s $1 million dollar dish. In a video posted to The Oprah Magazine’s Instagram, the woman herself decided to let us all know what was going through her head while trying to craft a response to what she was tasting back in 2006. She starts by responding to Spencer, the one who initially tweeted out the clip saying, “Okay, Spencer, I don’t know whatever made you pull that tape out of the vault, but, made me laugh.” Oprah continued saying, “I always wanted anybody who came on the show, no matter what they did, to have a good experience. And I also wanted to stay in my own truth while allowing them to have that good experience. I was having a moment of trying to decide, Do I want her to have a great time? What is my real moment of truth? Because the truth for me was that I am used to having salt and pepper on my chicken. That’s just the truth. That’s what I was thinking: this chicken needs some salt and pepper.” Well, you heard Oprah! Speak your truth, even if it’s going to embarrass somebody on national TV.

The visual album, which premiered as an iTunes exclusive, featured 14 brand new songs and 14 music videos. It was around midnight when fans noticed a Beyonce album banner had taken over iTunes. There it was, a black album cover with nothing but the name “Beyonce” in pink text. Who knew that one word, one album, could change the music industry as we know it. On this day, Beyonce proved that she was successfully able to shoot 14 music videos and keep it completely under wraps, despite involving the public in many of her videos. She was able to drop an album as an iTunes exclusive without promotion and without leaks and still sell over 800,000 units in just three short days. No one has been able to duplicate what Beyonce managed to do with that album. In fact, it’s because of Beyonce that album releases are now on Fridays rather than Tuesdays. This album was also a defining moment for Beyonce. It was her first post-Blue Ivy album and the first time she openly and unapologetically let her ratchet freak flag fly. T he cloud of corruption finally lifted from Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum with the release on Wednesday of an FBI report on its probe of city officials. It confirmed Gillum’s denial of wrongdoing and showed that his Republican rival for Florida governor Ron DeSantis exploited the investigation to win the election. See Also: Andrew Gillum Lost Florida Election Because Of Racism, Democrats Say Gillum’s name was not listed among those indicted by federal authorities in an investigation into whether businessmen were able to influence Tallahassee development projects, Politico reported. DeSantis led a racist campaign that poured millions of dollars into painting Gillum, who was running to become the state’s first African-American governor, as corrupt—even though Gillum had always said he was not a target of the probe. Republicans spent at least $7 million on TV ads to connect Gillum to the investigation. It paid off, with DeSantis winning a narrow victory. “If the FBI had something on Gillum, they would have brought it by now or it would be in this indictment. They got nothing on Gillum. He got screwed,” said Steven R. Andrews , a Republican strategist who is also a criminal defense attorney representing one of the defendants in the case. Corey had reportedly set up meetings between undercover FBI agents, posing as land developers, and Tallahassee officials—including Gillum. The FBI investigation was just one of the tools in DeSantis’ arsenal that included racist attacks. DeSantis has a long history of associating with white nationalists. Less than 24 hours after winning the GOP nomination in August, DeSantis blew a racist dog whistle when he warned Florida voters not to “monkey this up” by voting for Gillum. Soon after, white supremacists answered the whistle by sending out racist robocalls. Another series of robocalls attacking Gillum went out during their first debate. Gillum decidedly out-dueled DeSantis in the first debate through his mastery of the issues. But the Trump-backed candidate often used allegations of corruption to score points against Gillum. Now that the FBI investigation is in the rearview mirror, Gillum can focus on his political future. There were reports that he met recently with former President Barack Obama . She lost her election in a close race for a third term in Congress. It’s unclear what the political future holds for Love, who made history as the first and only Black Republican woman in Congress. Many in the GOP hoped that her early political success would help to bring racial diversity to the party. But the Trump-dominated GOP is an inhospitable place to most African Americans. Trump publicly showed his contempt for Love the day after the midterms . “Mia Love gave me no love and she lost,” Trump said mocking the congresswoman, naming her among incumbent House members who didn’t shower him with praise and were defeated. “Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia.” Republicans remained silent while Trump defended white supremacist violence in Charlottesville and labeled Haiti and nations in Africa “ shithole countries. ” The GOP also stood by while their leader claimed falsely that his policies improved the lives of Black people. The president’s policies have in fact been detrimental to the Black community. In education, for example, the president has looked for ways to cut funding to public schools. This comes as many Black children attend schools in buildings that should be condemned, like many found in Detroit , and schools that lack the resources that wealthy school districts offer their students. Moreover, rather than reducing bias in schools, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos approved new guidance, which took effect in March, that permits investigators in her department to disregard civil rights cases . Love urged the party to change course. “We must listen to their experiences, visit them in their comfort zones and take their priorities to heart. Our policy implementations must be personal — not transactional,” she wrote. But it’s unlikely that Republican leaders are paying attention to her.
