Source: Krista Long / Getty If you’re privy to the dance scene going on in New York that has also taken over social media (and made it’s way into White Folks’ home thanks to Ellen Degeneres ), then you’ve probably heard of Emilie Brooklyn . Emilie is very well known in the New York City dance community, specifically when it comes to the lite feet movement. The Copenhagen, Denmark native has danced for everyone from ASAP Ferg to Chris Brown — and with her large social media following plus half of uptown New York supporting her, it’s safe to say that Em is up next. Don’t get us wrong, anyone with raw talent (who can Harlem shake better than some Harlemites) deserves all the clout and respect that Emilie receives. But as a White girl whose upbringing was the polar opposite of someone growing up in the projects of Brooklyn, some things just aren’t acceptable. Like her birthday video to Jay-Z in front of Marcy houses. Not only is the video tone deaf AF, but it poses the question: Are Black folks too welcoming? Are we giving away our culture for free? There are several things about the 16 second clip that would trigger any person of color that grew up in an impoverished community: The setting: Public Housing is not a tourist attraction or a prop. Oppressed people of color were placed STILL live there and some are trying to make it out. Starret City, the largest federally subsidized, was built specifically for low-income, government assisted Black folks in 1974. Now it’s called Spring Creek Towers and was sold to shareholders, including Donald Trump, for $905 million . The Timbs: We’re use to Wypipo jocking our style and calling it their own; i.e. the Kim Kardashian “Boxer Braids”. But we gotta draw the line some where, and Timberland Boots is a good place to start. In the late 80’s and early 90’s before White folks ever thought about making their way to Brooklyn, Timbs were a symbol of the urban NY culture. Legend has it that Drug Dealers made them popular in the 90’s when they wore them to hit the block. But just like most things in Black culture — white folks got a hold of them, then celebrities. Now we cringe every time we see an “Emilie” ditching her uggs for Timbs. The props: If a Black girl came to a predominately White, suburban neighborhood dancing in front of the property with her coat and backpack posted on the gate all willy nilly — the police would have been called before she could finish her harlem shake. The Tags: Really though, Emilie? You just gon’ tag every popular urban outlet thinking they’d praise you for finagaling in front of such a beloved area? Nah. The Dance: As Millennials, we let a lot of things slide when it comes to the arts. “If you’re good at something, why do we have to bring race into the mix?” But just as White folks benefit from their ancestors atrocities with White privilege, Black people bare the brunt of our ancestors pain and suffering with oppression and maltreatment. And just as Jamie Lee Lewis wrote on Instagram , “The Harlem Shake, Light Feet are not dance moves. For us this is culture, it’s how we survive and how we acknowlege that we survived.” By no means are we saying that Emilie Brooklyn can’t dance, cause shorty has moves! But just be more aware. Be more informed. And please, get more Black friends.
Source: Tommaso Boddi / Getty The day after Cardi B announced she was divorcing her husband Offset , the rapper posted on her social media accounts of a full pic of their daughter Kulture —the first time she’s done that since the baby was born in back in July. The “I Like It” rapper captioned the photo with a simple “My heart.” Take a look at this chocolate cutie: Prior her post today, Cardi had been vocal about NOT wanting to full post pics of Kulture, mostly posting pics that hide the baby’s face. “I’m scared of sharing her to the world,” she told Entertainment Tonight last month. “There are too many mean people out there.” She even admitted that she and Offset turned down more than a million dollars to debut Kulture to the world for the sake of privacy. “Me and my husband… We just don’t wanna show our baby right now,” she told Apple Music’s Ebro Darden this October . Adding, “I got offered seven figures [for baby pictures], but I’m just not ready yet.” We guess now she’s ready. BEAUTIES: Isn’t Kulture a cutie? Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Rapper 2 Milly is going forward with his lawsuit against Epic Games, the studio behind the addictive video game Fortnite. The rapper doesn’t want anyone Milly Rocking on any block in the game anymore, unless Epic Games cuts a check. Speaking with TMZ exclusively , 2 Milly admits he didn’t know anything about Fortnite until people started hitting him up on social media telling him his dance moves were jacked and being used in the game. He added his daughter even pointed out the similar dance moves players can make their in-game characters do. The Milly Rock didn’t start showing up in the game till season 5 back in July, and the rapper wasn’t aware his dance move called the “Swipe It” was being sold for use in the game till months after. Per TMZ : “The rapper filed legal docs this week against Epic Games — the company that makes Fortnite Battle Royale — for allegedly using his popular Milly Rock moves in the game without his permission to capitalize on the popular dance craze … and make a ton of cash.” “According to the docs … Fortnite players can purchase the dance — which is called “Swipe It” in the game — for their characters. Problem is … 2 Milly claims “Swipe It” is an exact replica of his Milly Rock, but they never asked him to use it or offered to pay him for it.” According to the docs, 2 Milly is suing Epic for legal fees and damages and wants the dance deleted from the game. The “Swipe It” is no longer being sold but if players already purchased it, they can still use it. The Milly Rock is not the only Hip-Hop dance move in the game, Snoop Dogg’s signature moves from his “Drop It Like It’s Hot” video and Alfonso Ribiero’s “Carlton dance” are also available for purchase and use in the game. 2 Milly’s attorney David L. Hecht of Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht LLP speaking to TMZ that his firm “proud to stand up for African-American creatives whose expression and likenesses have misappropriated. Epic is enjoying record profits off of downloadable content in Fortnite, yet has failed to pay or even ask permission to use artists’ intellectual property and likenesses over many of its popular emote dances.” 2 Milly has a lot of people on his side including fellow Hip-Hop artist Chance The Rapper. Fortnite should put the actual rap songs behind the dances that make so much money as Emotes. Black creatives created and popularized these dances but never monetized them. Imagine the money people are spending on these Emotes being shared with the artists that made them — Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) July 13, 2018 While he has allies, history isn’t on his side, and this might be an uphill battle. There is no case law surrounding the copyrighting of choreography. We wouldn’t be shocked if Epic and the rapper reached some sort of settlement. We wish him luck in getting his coins though. — Photo: Johnny Nunez / Getty

Source: Matt Dinerstein / Fox It’s the fall finale of Empire and you can expect to feel a lot of feels! Tonight’s episode moves season five’s storyline forward in a major way and of course, we get left with a major cliffhanger. We pick up this week’s episode with Bella pointing the gun up at her chin. Thankfully, she doesn’t shoot herself as Hakeem manages to diffuse the situation. Cookie and Lucious take this as their chance to respectively lecture the former lovebirds. Cookie apologizes to Tiana for encouraging the toxic ride or die mentality. Lucious tells Hakeem that he shouldn’t even feel the need to carry a gun because he’s the only one in the family that doesn’t have blood on his hands (ironically) and should stay that way. Lucious points out that there will come a time when he and Cookie may have to face a lot more karma they have coming to them and he may be the one who has to take over the empire for real. The best thing to happen on tonight’s episode is that Andre finally got Quincy out of prison! He got another inmate who was never going to see the light of day again to confess to the crime that Quincy was falsely accused of. So that’s that. Quincy’s mom wants to pursue a relationship with Andre but he’s understandably afraid and fate may just not allow it. Now it’s the holidays and everyone is in Christmas mode, especially Cookie and Lucious. The best gift ever is when Kai drops his report about how Kingsley has been selling people’s data, via Empire, to the highest bidder, including the FBI. Cookie and Lucious are thrilled while Kingsley is pissed and Giselle and Becky are nervous. Patel is pissed because this is messing with his other businesses and he tells Giselle and Kingsley they better figure out who’s going to fall on the sword. Kingsley decides it’s going to be Becky. He claims to have video chats that prove she was working with Lucious and makes a spectacle of having her escorted out, but this is part of a larger plan. Becky is furious and says this isn’t true. Now, we all know what she did for Thirsty, but this ain’t that. Kingsley is trying to scapegoat her for a larger plan because when Giselle asks to see the footage, Kingsley tells her, “Sink or swim” and that’s enough to shut Giselle down for a minute. Plus, Thirsty said the USB he gave Becky was untraceable and we all know Thirsty’s plots are airtight when it comes to covering tracks because he’s the real MVP. Not all heroes wear capes. Kai informs Jamal that he got some more intel about criminal activity that happened at Empire under Lucious. He wants to release it, being the journalist that he is, but he won’t for now. Plus, his producers in London want to give him a full-time spot. Basically, this means he’s not sure where he and Jamal’s relationship stand and we’re all super confused. Like, did you two not just get engaged? Anyway, let’s cut to the Lyon Family Management showcase. You already know everything goes down at the showcases! So, here we are. It starts off all-good. Hakeem, Blake, and Tiana perform their song. Cheers to their truce. Meanwhile, in an office upstairs, Lucious comes face to face with Kingsley and snaps. He starts beating the breaks off of Kingsley and probably would have killed him had Giselle not stepped in and told him that Kingsley is his son. Lucious is stunned and only manages to eek out, “That’s impossible.” From there, Lucious takes a break from the showcase to visit Kingsley’s mother, Tracy, in the hospital right quick. Tracy, in the hospital and we flashback to the 80s. It’s what we already know: He was her dealer, but she also liked “hanging out” with him. Back in the present, Tracy wakes up and tells Lucious that she knew he’d come back. Lucious is still in denial about Kingsley being his son, claiming that they only “hung out” a couple of times. We all know that it really only takes one time, but at the same time, you get the feeling that there’s a chance that Lucious isn’t the father. Tracy encourages him to take a DNA test. There’s also flashback information that shows us that Tracy actually brought Kingsley to Lucious’ home once when Andre and Jamal were really young. She mentioned that she was clean but didn’t have the heart to tell Lucious that Kingsley was his son since he wouldn’t let them in the house and was generally acting shady. Cookie also startled him because she shouted out wanting to know who was at the door, which got him shook enough to tell Tracy to go away and not to come back. That was also the day Tracy got hooked back on drugs (Lucious gave her the money and encouraged her to get taken care of). Trigger much? Lucious manages to get back to the showcase in time for Giselle to tell them what Kingsley is trying to do to Becky and to make a deal to save her own shady arse. Giselle says she has more information that can help get Kingsley out but they must agree to make her co-partner when/if Lucious takes control of Empire again. Lucious says he’ll think about it. Cookie really just wants them to move forward, but the allure of getting Empire back is strong for Lucious. Lucious also has to tell her about Kingsley, but he gets derailed when Porsha summons her to the stage. Cookie starts off with a nice speech about their victory, but Kingsley crashes the party and blows up Lucious’ spot. Everyone is stunned when Kingsley reveals that Lucious is his father and that he used to sell his mother drugs. Cookie, the ridiest ride or die chick there ever was, is so disturbed that she walks off stage. Finally, Andre confronts Kingsley and says he will end him but Kingsley’s chilling reply is, “Not unless I end you first baby bro, bring it!’ Then we cut to three months after that and we see Andre flatlining on a gurney. That doesn’t mean that Andre is the person who died, but it doesn’t…not mean that either. We know what show this is. We can expect anything to happen but one thing that’s certain is that the flashback storytelling is over and everything will move forward from here. See you in March.
