Source: Prince Williams / Getty Zaytoven has been putting in work on the music scene since his early days in the Bay Area to becoming one of Atlanta’s most sought-after producers. In a recent interview, the talented keyboardist and beat maker broke down the details of his collaborative effort with Usher in A , working with Gucci Mane and Future, and also giving Quavo the blessing to date close friend and artist Saweetie. Billboard writes: Working at a frenetic pace is nothing new for Zaytoven, as he easily rattles off numerous Atlanta rap titans he’s collaborated with for days at a time honing in on a single project. “That’s how it is when I work with Gucci Mane, Migos or Future and do projects with them. This was about [a month] ago. We literally did the project and got it mixed and mastered within two weeks,” he says. The 38-year-old took it upon himself to inject a certain dose of youthfulness when creating a relevant trap sonic to complement Usher’s signature croon. “It was up to me to bring the youthfulness and the right now sound to the project,” Zay told Billboard. “I’m an R&B guy, but it seems like it’s not getting the looks it used to. It’s up to me and other producers like me to make the music for these new R&B guys.” On the Billboard 200 chart dated Oct. 27, “A” debuted at No. 31. Even prior to the Let the Trap Say Amen producer beginning his latest musical endeavor, he received a surprise call from burgeoning Bay area artist Saweetie, who he considers to be basically family, as someone he’s witness grow since she was just a little girl. These days, the “ICY GRL” rapper is now all but confirmed to be dating Quavo in her first high-profile relationship. Check out the full interview with Zaytoven here . — Photo: Getty

Source: Kevin C. Cox / Getty Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp is resigning Thursday amid a gubernatorial race that is still too close to call 2 days after the election. His democratic opponent Stacey Abrams has been bringing attention to alleged voter suppression all over the state, and it’s made the high stakes race very ugly. Brian Kemp’s resignation, which effective is at 11:59 a.m. Thursday, comes after he tried to declare victory on the race, but the Abrams team quickly shut that down stating votes were still being counted. We will see how this effects the rest of the race and if this will prompt a runoff. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

A s NewsOne reported yesterday, Brian Kemp ‘s campaign claimed he won the governor race of Florida. However, the Associated Press , NBC and CNN  did not call the race. Stacey Abrams ‘ campaign has now spoken out. See Also: Bill Cosby Sentenced To 3 To 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Assault Conviction According to CNN, the Abrams campaign said, “Our opponent has had his office declare himself the victor and we do not accept that.” They continued, “They are trying to force an outcome … without proof … and expecting everyone to go along with it.” Cody Hall, the Kemp campaign’s press secretary, stated earlier, “Based on counts released by the Secretary of State’s office, Brian Kemp’s margin is so large that the number of provisional ballots and overseas ballots will not change his Election Day victory. Simply put, it is mathematically impossible for Stacey Abrams to win or force a run-off election.” Brian Kemp  is also the secretary of state of Georgia, which means he is supervising his own election. Kemp has been sued repeatedly for voter suppression and even former President Jimmy Carter called on him to resign  from his position as secretary of state. Late Tuesday night Abrams said, “I’m here tonight to tell that votes remain to be counted. There are voices that are waiting to be heard. Across our states, folks are opening up the dreams of voters and absentee ballots and we believe our chance for a stronger Georgia is just within reach but we cannot seize it until all voices are heard. I promise you tonight we are going to make sure that every vote is counted. In a civilized nation the machinery of democracy   should work everywhere.” See below: Stacey Abrams: “We believe our chance for a stronger Georgia is just within reach but we cannot seize it until all voices are heard and I promise you tonight we are going to make sure that every vote is counted” pic.twitter.com/YeyAWJ5pUG — Edward Hardy (@EdwardTHardy) November 7, 2018   SEE ALSO: All The Ways Cops Are Still Trying To Cover Up LaQuan McDonald’s Execution Outrageous! Her Democratic challenger Ben McAdams was leading 51.4 percent to Love’s 48.6 percent by early Wednesday morning. McAdams delayed declaring victory, waiting instead for officials to count ballots sent by mail. The Utah lawmaker was among just a handful of Black Republicans in Congress, which includes South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott . Love and Scott “stood beside Trump in support,” according to the Washington Post . But they also distanced themselves from the president when he made controversial statements in support of white supremacists violence in Charlottesville. And Love, a Haitian-American, also had issues with the president when he identified Haiti as one of the “sh**hole countries” Black countries. The congresswoman has been embroiled in a campaign finance scandal which likely contributed to her tight race. She was in hot water with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) over her team improperly raising more than a million dollars for a primary election that was never expected to happen. Love has fought hard to retain her congressional seat—including playing the race card . She went on Fox News radio in September and accused the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee of targeting her seat because she’s Black. “They do not like the fact that I am a Black female Republican doing everything I possibly can to talk about the issues that help people go from the lowest common denominator up,” Love said in the interview. Six Family Members To ‘Mute’ Just Before The Holidays

Read more here:

Source: Eric Thayer for The Washington Post / Getty With Thanksgiving approaching, holiday season 2018 is practically upon us. And while many of you are spending your time wondering if canned collard greens are acceptable (they’re not!), we’d ask that you consider another highly important issue—your own peace of mind. As beautiful and heartwarming as the holidays can be, tons of folk dread having to reunite with family and friends they’d otherwise avoid. And with good reason—some of us are out here trying to live our best lives, progress, and be a lot less petty. Others (cough, cough) are stuck in that same old toxic bullsh*t. For National Stress Awareness Day today, we’re here to remind you: you absolutely don’t have to partake in any of it. You have the choice to opt out and do your own thing, or pick and choose which close ones you want to celebrate with. But, if you’re not quite there in life just yet and probably will end up at an awkward Thanksgiving dinner table full of judgment and drama, we created a list of folks you can mentally “mute” in order to maintain your sanity for the time being. You can also “mute” them on Instagram…just saying. It’s time to think about you, even if ever so slightly. The Unsolicited Advisor Whoever this irritating “consultant” is in your family or circle of friends, identify them, and put up a mental block pronto. If it’s you , stop being that person who’s constantly all up in everybody else’s business, when you can’t seem to get your own life together. Your opinion was not requested, nor does it help.  Damn sis, mind your business! Uncle Creepy If you watch Greenleaf , you know what we’re talking about. That suspect uncle who feels the need to keep commenting on how “grown up” you are—yea, stay away from him. Mooching Ass Moochie Everybody has that cousin who always seems to need something. You can barely have an interaction with Lil Tay Tay without him “trying to see if you got $20” he can “hold.” What does that even mean—are you requesting a loan or handout Lil Tay Tay? Either way, constantly giving your hard-earned money away can become overwhelming. Where your parents at, damn! The Unpredictable Drunk There’s always that uncle or auntie that doesn’t know when to stop drinking. Everyone’s just waiting on a fight to breakout, or that inevitable awkward outburst . Steer clear… with all that positive energy pouring from your veins, you’re sure to become a target this holiday season. Your Overstepping Auntie She needs no introduction. You just went full-time at your job, you barely have a bae, let alone a whole person to procreate with—but your auntie won’t stop asking things like “When you gon’ get married?,” “When you gon’ have a baby?”, “What you waiting for? You ain’t getting any younger.” She doesn’t mean any harm…smile and block her out. The Trump Supporter In times like these , there’s simply no reason to even entertain a person who thinks Trump is making America “great again.” If you’ve already firmly stated your stance on the issues at hand, make a mental note to mentally mute ’em. 5 Things We Learned From The Midterm Elections

Link:

B lack candidates were instrumental in helping the Democrats win the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, enabling Democrats to end one-party rule and turn up the heat on President Donald Trump . But it was a mixed result, with disappointments in places like Florida where Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum lost in a close race for governor. At the same time, several Black candidates made history, like Ayanna Pressley who become Massachusetts’ first Black woman in Congress . Some of the elections were plagued with a number of instances of attempts to suppress the Black vote, including a concerted effort in Georgia ahead of Election Day that continued on Tuesday . See Also: ‘Dirty Tricks’: Stacey Abrams Voters Won’t Be Denied As Brian Kemp Rigs Voting Machines Here are five takeaways from the 2018 midterm elections: Black women candidates are winners While some African-American female candidates like Jahana Hayes were victorious and others such as  Vangie Williams came up short, they are all winners. Some of these women made history by winning competitive primary elections, as they overcame racism, gender bias and obstacles within the Democratic Party. Congratulations to Jahana Hayes, the former national teacher of the year who just became the first Black women ever elected to Congress in Connecticut. #ElectionNight #Midterms2018 #RepresentTheVote https://t.co/BFuTdEpje8 — NewsOne (@newsone) November 7, 2018 Racism was an effective GOP tool The Republican base responded to racist dog whistles in several elections. Ron DeSantis infamously warned Florida voters not to “ monkey this up ” by electing his rival Andrew Gillum, who is African American. Within days, Florida residents began to receive racist robocalls that mocked Gillum. Stacey Abrams was also targeted with racist robocalls in Georgia shortly after Trump called her unqualified to be governor of Georgia before holding a rally for her GOP rival Brian Kemp . “I heard people were making racist robocalls in my name against Stacey Abrams, who I am one hundred percent for, in Georgia,” Oprah said on Instagram. “I just want to say: Jesus don’t like ugly … And we know what to do about that: vote. Tomorrow show up and show out, and vote.” pic.twitter.com/CvK5VP60Az — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) November 6, 2018   Triumph for anti-Trump activism “This was a remarkable wave of grassroots activism that swept across the country — with women and people of color leading the way. From a U.S. House of Representatives that reflects the will of the people to the passage of Amendment 4 in Florida, which restored voting rights to convicted felons, this election was an overwhelming rebuke of Trump and Trumpism, and a show of support for candidates who look like America and campaigned on a bold, forward-looking and inclusive vision,” said NAACP President Derrick Johnson .   Vigilance needed to combat voter suppression Fighting against voter suppression is an ongoing struggle that requires tenacity. Georgia emerged as the epicenter for voting rights, where activists filed lawsuits against Kemp to ensure the votes of African Americans were counted. Kemp desperately used every trick in the book to win his election. “Voter suppression played a huge role in the silencing of the political voices of the Black community and all people of color,” the NAACP president said. “As we saw in Georgia and Tennessee, Republicans engaged in a massive voter suppression strategy that has included further rolling back the Voting Rights Act.” GA Secretary of State Brian Kemp stooped to new low in his ongoing efforts to keep black people from voting for ⁦ @staceyabrams ⁩. Voting machines, which fall under his responsibility, were delivered to majority black precincts without any power cords. https://t.co/IxvD4Usoo5 — Jon Cooper (@joncoopertweets) November 6, 2018   Black folks will turn out for midterm elections Black voter turnout was high in 2008 and 2012 when President Barack Obama was running. The numbers tumbled in 2016 . It was unclear what would happen in 2018. Early exit polls suggested that African-Americans showed up in strong numbers for the midterms, according to ABC News .
