Source: Joshua Blanchard / Getty How to Get Away With Murder picks up back at Connor and Oliver’s wedding. We’re in the bathroom with Bonnie and Michaela. Michaela is lowkey freaking out about the blood on Bonnie’s leg and asks whose blood it is. Bonnie says, “Relax, I cut myself shaving,” as calmly as she can, but we all know what universe this is and we know Bonnie is lying. Now we cut back two months before that. Nate is still trying as hard as he can to see who the woman is, in the surveillance photo he has, kidnapping baby Gabriel. He zooms in and it looks a lot like Bonnie. Meanwhile, Annalise is giving a lecture to her students detailing the traits of a psychopath. This relates to her new client, Niles Harrington, a wealthy CEO accused of murdering his business partner. Niles is a controversial character who wrote a book called, “The CEO Psychopath,” and not a lot of people are fond of him in general. Obviously, the book isn’t flying too well in court, so the prosecutor is running with the whole psychopath angle. However, Annalise is on it because that’s what she does. She’s working co-counsel with her boss, but so far so good. That is until one of the witnesses, Nile’s secretary, changes a statement she made earlier which makes her look shady. As a result, Annalise is pushing to try to pin this crime on her. Niles doesn’t want to (because she wouldn’t hurt a fly according to him) but we know how Annalise does. In related news, Asher is interning at the DA’s office for prosecutor Ron Miller, who just so happens to be the prosecutor on Annalise’s case. As a result of Asher being salty that Annalise didn’t accept him into her clinic, he tells Miller what Annalise’s next move would be (pinning it on the secretary), and convinces Miller to believe him. That’s not hard give that has spent so much time with Annalise. Later on, Miller tries to make a deal with Annalise that could help both of them out, but in the end, Annalise decides not to take it because it would screw her boss over. Eventually, Annalise thinks Niles killed his associate because he was sleeping with his wife and then we get to the plot twist. Nile’s wife killed the associate but he refuses to let her go down for it and legit threatens to kill them before he allows either of them to blow up his wife’s spot. So, the next defense play is saying that Nile’s business partner accidentally killed himself by asphyxiation. There’s a belt in question here, so they have the secretary try it on and it fits. Niles tries it on and it doesn’t fit, and you already know he just had to make an OJ Simpson reference: “If it doesn’t fit you must acquit!” That outburst is just one of a couple of instances that demonstrate the arrogance that makes people not like this man. Annalise put together a stunning but the jury still finds Niles Harrington guilty. Annalise, her boss, Niles, and his wife are all looking like… Niles mentions that it’s because the jury hates him and has bias due to the book. This is true because it really seemed like he was about to get off. Annalise still tries to convince him to turn his wife in because she only killed his business associate because she was worried about the money she would lose if he left the company but Niles won’t do it. He’s too soft and pink for her. The only hope now is a retrial due to bias and that’s that for now. Nate finds the attending nurse who was present on the night the baby was kidnapped and gets her to talk. Basically, Bonnie’s father was trying to leave the baby to become a ward of the state (because it was the product of him sexually exploiting his teenage daughter) but Bonnie later on panicked and said she had a change of heart and that she wanted to do the right thing but her dad wouldn’t let her be great. Nate shows her the photo of Bonnie and the woman confirms that issa match! So, we can assume Bonnie kidnapped her own baby and the nurse allowed it to happen because she also felt like she was doing the right thing. Nate takes this information to Annalise and says he didn’t want to say anything until he had receipts. Annalise starts shaking her head because it turns out that Bonnie didn’t kidnap her baby. It was Bonnie’s sister. PLOT TWIST! And now we cut back to Connor and Oliver’s wedding. This is after the bathroom incident so Bonnie (or possibly her sister) is back in the crowd. Michaela is back in the crowd but she keeps glancing at Bonnie/Bonnie’s sister because something doesn’t feel right and Oliver is being called to the dance floor but he’s missing. Yeah, we’re all confused! Is this Bonnie’s twin or are they supposed to be the type of sister that just look a hell of a lot alike? A Washington state court struck down the state’s controversial death penalty on Thursday (Oct. 11) after ruling that racial bias led to more African-Americans facing executions than white defendants. It was a unanimous decision that was years in the making, motivated by the alarming rate at which Black people were sentenced to capital punishment. RELATED: It’s Official: The Trump Administration Will ‘Seek The Death Penalty’ For Drug Dealers The state’s death penalty laws, repeatedly revised since the 1970s, allowed for Black people convicted of capital crimes to be sentenced to execution 3.5 to 4.6 times as often as white people convicted in comparable cases, according to research University of Washington scholars Katherine Beckett and Heather Evans presented to the court. Predominately Black counties in the state were also the “likeliest to see death sentences sought and imposed.” To make matters worse, the laws had also been declared unconstitutional three times prior to Thursday’s ruling. BREAKING: Washington state's Supreme Court rules that the death penalty violates its Constitution. https://t.co/5OI6VIYh4c — The Associated Press (@AP) October 11, 2018 “The death penalty is invalid because it is imposed in an arbitrary and racially biased manner. While this particular case provides an opportunity to specifically address racial disproportionality, the underlying issues that underpin our holding are rooted in the arbitrary manner in which the death penalty is generally administered,” justices said about their landmark decision in their filed court opinion . With the ruling, Washington state has become the 20th state to end capital punishment, as activists have tirelessly fought for the practice to be outlawed in all states. BREAKING: The Washington Supreme Court just struck down the death penalty, citing racial bias. This makes Washington the 20th state in the nation to outlaw the death penalty. We won't stop fighting until it's struck down everywhere in America. — ACLU (@ACLU) October 11, 2018 The court also converted the death sentences for nine death row inmates to life without parole on Thursday, Think Progress reported. The news is, undoubtedly, a cause for celebration and win for activists. Source: Pool / Getty K anye West delivered the rant heard ’round the world on Thursday, when he visited his leader Donald Trump in the White House. The meeting was billed as being about criminal justice reform in Chicago, seeing as Kanye’s hometown made a cameo appearance this week in the president’s speech to the nation’s police chiefs about the unconstitutional practice of stop-and-frisk. However, once Kanye was given the floor of the Oval Office, he took it and ran [amok] with it, mostly speaking inaccurately on everything from that revolting MAGA hat to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery. Read the full text of Kanye’s latest rant below, courtesy of a transcription from New York magazine’s Vulture: “Here we have Larry Hoover’s lawyer with us today and it’s a prisoner that we’re focused on. He has six life sentences and they have him next to the unibomber doing 23 and 1 … Really the reason why they imprisoned [Larry Hoover] is because he started doing positive for the community. He started showing that he actually had power, he wasn’t just one of a monolithic voice but he could wrap people around, so there’s theories that there’s infinite amounts of universe, and there’s alternate universe, so it’s very important for me to get Hoover out because in an alternate universe, I am him. And I have to go and get him free because he was doing positive inside of Chicago, just like how I’m moving back to Chicago and it’s not just about, you know, getting on stage and being an entertainer, and having a monolithic voice that’s forced to be a specific party. “You know, people expect that if you’re black you have to be Democrat. I have conversations that basically said that welfare is the reason why a lot of black people end up being Democrat they say – you know first of all, it’s a limit to amount of jobs, so the fathers lose the job and they say, ‘We’ll give you more money for having more kids in your home.’ And then we got rid of the mental health institutes in the 80s and the 90s and the prison rates just shot up. And now you have Chiraq, what people call Chiraq, which actually, our murder rate is going down by 20 per cent every year. I just talked to the superintendent, met with Michael Sacks, that’s Ron’s right hand man. So, I think it’s the bravery that helps you beat this game called life. You know they tried to scare me to not wear this hat, my own friends, but this hat, it gives me power in a way. “You know, my dad and my mom separated, so I didn’t have a lot of male energy in my home. And also I’m married now into a family that, you know, not a lot of male energy going on, it’s beautiful though. But there’s times where, you know, it’s something about, I love Hillary, I love everyone, right, but the campaign “I’m With Her” just didn’t make me feel as a guy that didn’t get to see my dad all the time, like a guy that could play catch with his son. It was something about when I put this hat on, it made me feel like Superman. You made us Superman, that’s my favorite superhero, and you made a Superman cape for me. “Also as a guy that looks up to you, looks up to Ralph Lauren, looks up to American industry guys. Non-political, no bullshit [looks at media members] – put the beep on it, however you want to do it, five seconds delay – and just goes in and gets it done. Right now, you gave me the heart to go to Adidas. When I went in, in 2015, we were a $14 billion company losing $2 billion a year. Now, we have $38 billion market cap. It’s called “The Yeezy Effect.” And went and I said, “You have to bring manufacturing on-shore. Not even on-shore, into the core. It’s not about the borders. The core of Adidas, and Chicago, is the core of middle America, and we have to make middle America strong. “So, I had the balls, because I have enough balls to put on this hat. I mean, this Adidas thing made me a billionaire. And I could have lost $200 million walking away from that deal. But even with that, I knew it was more important for me to take the chance of walking away from that deal, than to have no fathers in Chicago, with no homes. And when we do have prison reformation, not rehabilitation, because they didn’t have the abilities in the first place. We never had anyone who taught us, they didn’t teach us. Then any specific deal, anything, that we bring jobs into America. And that we provide a transition with mental health and the AmeriCan education curriculum that Jim has worked on. Larry Hoover also has a curriculum that he’s worked on. We have Montessori curriculums that we worked on. WeWorks has beautiful curriculum. The Waldorf establishment has a curriculum. We have meditation. “There’s a lot of things affecting our mental health that makes us do crazy things, that puts us back into that trap door that’s called the 13th Amendment. I did say, “abolish,” with the hat on, because why would you keep something around that’s a trap door. If you building a floor, the constitution is the base of our industry, of our country, of our company. Would you build a trap door that if you mess up and accidentally something happens, you fall and you end up next to the Uni-bomber, you gotta remove all that trapdoor out of the relationship. The four gentleman that wrote the 13th Amendment, and I think the way the universe works is perfect, we don’t have 13 floors, do we? You know, the four gentleman that wrote the 13th amendment didn’t look like the people they were amending. Also, at that point, it was illegal for blacks to read, or African Americans, to read. So, that meant if you actually read the Amendment, you’d get locked up! And turned into a slave. Again, so what I think is, we don’t need sentences, we need pardons. We need to talk to people. “I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was connected with a neuropsychologist that works with the athletes in the NBA and NFL. He looked at my brain, it’s equal on three parts. I’m gonna go ahead, drop some bombs for you. 98 percentile IQ test, I had a 75 percentile of all human beings when it was counting eight numbers backwards, so I’m gonna work on that one. The other ones, 98 percent, Tesla, Freud. So, he said that I actually wasn’t bipolar, I had sleep deprivation, which could cause dementia 10-20 years from now, where I wouldn’t even remember my son’s name. So, all this power that I’ve got, and I’m taking my son to the Sox game and all that, I wouldn’t be able to remember his name, from a misdiagnosis. What we need is, we can empower the pharmaceuticals and make more money. That’s one thing, I’ve never stepped into a situation where I didn’t make people more money. So, we can empower pharmaceuticals, we can empower our industries, we can empower our factories, we can bring, not only Adidas on shore, we could bring Foxconn and set up a factory in, I think, Minnesota [corrected by Trump that it’s Wisconsin]. “Yeah, Wisconsin. They have 4,000 jobs, people making 53,000 a year. And one of the things we gotta set is, Ford to have the highest designs. The dopest cars. The most amazing. I don’t really say, “dope,” I don’t say negative words and try to flip ‘em. We just say positive, lovely, divine, universal words. So, the flyest, freshest, most amazing car. And what we start with, is – I brought a GIF with me right here. [Scrolls through iPhone to show Trump.] This right here is the iPlane 1. It’s a hydrogen powered airplane, and this is what our president should be flying in. We’re gonna have Apple, an American company, work on this plane. “What I need Saturday Night Live to improve on, or what I need the liberals to improve on is, if he don’t look good [pointing to Trump], we don’t look good. This is our President. He has to be the freshest, the flyest, the flyest planes, the best factories. And we have to make our core be empowered. We have to bring jobs into America, because our best export is entertainment and ideas. But when we make everything in China and not America, then we’re cheating on our country, and we’re putting people in positions to have to do illegal things to end up in the cheapest factory every, the prison system.” SEE ALSO: Kanye West ‘Can’t Say’ If Abraham Lincoln Was Black Or White Snoop Dogg Rips Into Kanye For Loving Trump: ‘F**k You!’ [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3831284″ overlay=”true”]
Source: Martin Novak / Getty Imagine taking a break from your hectic job to go on a beautiful cross country trip to unwind only to witness your Airbnb host jump out of his own window. This horrific event is exactly what happened to a Black couple who took a holiday in Southern California. According to the Boston Globe , Jaleesa Jackson and Chiedozie Uwandu , both medical residents at hospitals in Boston, decided that they needed a break from their insanely stressful schedules, which consisted of 14-hour shifts, 5-6 days a week. So the couple flew out to Southern California to unwind, enjoy the sun and fun, and most importantly, live their best lives. They ended up renting an Airbnb, an upscale guesthouse in Los Angeles. The couple told the newspaper that at first, everything seemed fine, especially given that the host, J.J, had high ratings on the app and left a chilled bottle of wine for them. But soon after, everything turned straight to hell. This has to be the craziest Airbnb-gone-wrong story ever. https://t.co/wJWvWtx02w — Cynthia Needham (@CynthiaNeedham) October 9, 2018 The Globe reported that at 5:30 the next morning, Jackson awoke to loud banging at the door, hearing a male voice shout, “I know you’re in there, Kevin!” Jackson slightly opened the door to see an “agitated man in full rant.” She told him to go away and slammed the door. She then called the host to ask for help. To her surprise, the host admitted that it was him. Telling her, “Sorry about the confusion. Life’s too short for me to give you an explanation. Have a nice time in LA.” He then hung up. Whet? Thinking this behavior was some “West coast” thing, the couple tried to move past it, until the next morning. At around 2am, a man came crashing through a large window in their bedroom, “sending shards of glass everywhere and leaving him sprawled on the floor, face down.” “I had no idea what was happening,” Uwandu told the Globe. “But I reacted like we were under attack.” When he recognized who the man on the ground was, he couldn’t believe it. It was that DAMN J.J.!!! Even worse? When they called the police, they soon found out that J.J wasn’t the owner of the house, but someone who was renting the guesthouse from its true owner, an elderly woman. The couple quickly called Airbnb, who offered to relocate them to another home for free and refund them the $708, but they weren’t having it. Instead, they checked into a local hotel spending a whopping $2,300 on their room, parking and other related expenses. Soon after, they called Airbnb again and asked them for $5,000 to compensate them for the trauma they experienced. However, the company met them halfway and only offered them $2,500. In addition, they offered five free therapy sessions to deal with what happened. Again, the couple declined. While a rep from Airbnb wouldn’t comment directly about what happened to Jackson and Uwandu, they did stress to the Globe that “safety is our top priority” and “negative incidents are extremely rare.” RELATED NEWS: #HelloWorld: Explore America With These Black Airbnb Experience Hosts Everything We Know About Airbnb Encounter With Police And 3 Black Women Can NAACP Help Airbnb Hosts Become Less Racist? Source: George Pimentel / Getty Drake has been the talk of the town all day since releasing a brand new track titled “Mia” with Bad Bunny . The up-tempo record features Aubrey singing in Spanish, as Bunny follows up with a long verse of his own. The visual, released simultaneously, sees both stars enjoying an evening block party, equipped with dancing, hookahs, and a game of dominoes. Bad Bunny feat Drake – “Mia” But 2018 is far from Drake’s first time teaming up with a Latin-American superstar. Back in 2013, Drizzy teamed up with former Aventura lead singer Romeo Santos for “Odio,” in which the Canadian also showcased his Spanish singing skills. This initial collaboration was especially fitting following the lyrics from Drake’s 2011 smash hit “The Motto,” where he rapped, “Spanish girls love me like I’m Aventura.” What foreshadowing. Romeo Santos feat Drake – “Odio” Though Drake is known for his ability to “adapt” into other cultures like they’re his own, he’s not the first–and won’t be the last–to experiment with some bi-lingual singing skills. Let’s take a look at other huge stars who have crossed over into collaborations with Latin sensations. Before Romeo and Drake came Romeo and Usher . Mr. Raymond doesn’t actually show off any bi-lingual chops on his track “Promise” from Romeo Santos’ 2011 album Fórmula, Vol. 1 , but the collaboration was a big deal for both artists, nonetheless. Romeo Santos feat Usher – “Promise” We can’t talk about North American pop-stars crossing over without talking about Justin Bieber . The Canadian heartthrob hopping on the remix to Daddy Yankee & Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” is probably the most successful Spanish crossover of all-time–and with the original video boasting 5.5 billion views on Youtube, it’s one of the most successful singles ever, in general. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat Justin Bieber – “Despacito (Remix)” Keeping it in the family, Luis Fonsi’s brother Jean Rodriguez is actually the one who coached Beyoncé on her Spanish chops before she hopped on J Balvin’s “Mi Gente.” Though the release of this song (and Bey’s involvement in it) had everybody freaking out, this wasn’t Mrs. Carter’s first time around the block. The superstar has made her fair share of Spanish remixes to her very own songs including “Si Yo Fuera Un Chico (If I Were a Boy),” “Oye (Listen),” and “Irreemplazable (Irreplaceable).” J Balvin & Willy William feat Beyoncé- “Mi Gente” Though it wasn’t a collaboration with a Latin musician, Kendrick Lamar paid tribute to his Los Angeles roots by rapping his a$$ off en Español for his feature on labelmate Schoolboy Q ‘s track “Collard Greens.” Schoolboy Q feat Kendrick Lamar – “Collard Greens” Those five aren’t the only North American artists to dabble in some Spanish, check out these honorable mentions to get well-versed in the bi-lingual world of American music. Whether you’re reading this from your dorm room or you’re well into your career thinking back on the old days , you know higher learning institutions provide a different kind of fun, freedom, and sense of camaraderie you can’t find anywhere else. And if you made the extraordinary decision to attend an HBCU, that feeling is twice as intense. Historically Black College and Universities give non-wypipo a home away from home, where we can learn about our history, make like-minded friends, have fun, and learn to love ourselves for who we are. For many of us, it’s the first time we see other Black people in positions of power, influence, and esteem. It’s a gold mine for Black excellence, enlightenment, and scholarship. It’s oh so necessary. Depending on our personalities and overall life goals, we all end up playing a different part at our respective HBCUs. There are the geeks, who are all about getting higher grades than every other living being—because, what’s life if you don’t make valedictorian at the end of such an expensive education? There are the athletes, who are dedicated to looking good and feeling great. Going pro is a dream come true for many of these types, but for those with less ambitious goals, it’s all about the sweat and competition. Don’t forget the kid who lives life as a voice for the Black community. This student is most likely to become the president of the Black Student Union.(S)he is all about uplifting Black people, building Black influence and they’ll probably go on to fight for Black rights all over the nation. And it wouldn’t be a historically black college or university if we didn’t talk about Greek life. You know who they are, you know what they’re about, and you know it’s LIT lit when they come through.
