It’s important to know that #BlackExcellence means many things for many different people. For some, it means being a good sport in spite of monumental resistance and ridicule. Take Serena Williams for example. Here’s a woman who’s had to endure every racist and sexist comment in the book during her tennis career, yet she still manages to be one of the greatest athletes of all time with countless Grand Slam wins. Many say Williams had to combat racism and sexism AGAIN at the U.S. Open final on Saturday when she played Naomi Osaka. According to The New York Times , Serena received a code violation when the chair umpire accused her of getting sideline instruction from her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. However, Serena vehemently denied that she cheated by getting instructions from her coach. Later, Serena lost a point playing Osaka and out of anger, she smashed her tennis racket. The umpire cited another code violation because of this and since it was her second, Serena lost a whole point. Her frustration at the umpire built and she demanded an apology for saying she cheated in the first place. But the umpire didn’t seem to budge. Eventually, Serena called him a “thief” for taking a point from her and with this remark, the umpire gave her a third code violation. Many people, including Serena herself, said that men have made far worse remarks to umpires, yet they don’t get penalized. Serena eventually lost the game to Osaka, but she remained a good sport. She congratulated Osaka and even comforted her when she started to cry because people were booing in the audience. One Black woman supporting another Black woman in spite of BS? #BlackExcellence at its finest. On top of all this, Osaka still played an amazing game, giving her #BlackExcellence kudos as well. And don’t think Serena is going to keep quiet about the double standard between men and women in tennis. She made a final statement to the press saying she wouldn’t stop fighting for women’s equality. Check out her tear-jerking inspirational words starting at the 8:38 mark below! (Family courtesy photo via AP) It has been almost six months since two Sacramento police officers shot and killed 22-year-old Stephon Clark as he stood in the backyard of his grandmother’s home. The officers fired about 20 shots and said that they thought he was holding a gun and were in fear for their lives. He was only holding a cell phone. The Sacramento Police Department’s internal investigation of the shooting is still ongoing, as is the investigation being led by the California State Attorney General. Both officers involved in Clark’s death have been back on the job for at least four months, and activists continue demanding justice for his death. According to the Sacramento Bee, Clark’s family has filed $35 million in wrongful death claims with the city of Sacramento. The city has not officially released any documents to confirm this, a news release acknowledged that claims forms seeking damages “in excess of $15 million” for “nine separate causes of action that include negligence and wrongful death” have been filed with the city. Los Angeles attorney Dale Galipo and other attorneys reportedly filed claims seeking $20 million for Clark’s two children and $15 million for his grandparents and parents. According to the Bee , the documents were filed just before the six-month deadline to submit a wrongful death claim to the city. Such claims usually indicate a federal civil rights lawsuit will follow. Thieves targeted San Fernando Valley home that the popular artist once stayed and even demanded to know where he was before making off with $20,000 in stolen goods. TMZ reports : Law enforcement sources tell us … 3 male suspects smashed a front window a little after midnight on September 1 and entered the San Fernando Valley house. We’re told a resident living there was pistol-whipped. We’re told one of the 3 men yelled, “Where’s Post Malone?!” … before stealing a bunch of cash, jewelry and cell phones … about $20k worth. The barking out of Post’s name makes it clear they were targeting him, but it’s been months since he lived there. We’re told the people living there now have no connection to Post. The outlet threw out the possibility that the recent rash of home invasions and the like could be linked to other high-profile cases as a home where Rae Sremmurd was staying in the area was robbed of a safe just hours later. The first Watch The Throne dropped in 2011 and featured the smash hit “N*ggas In Paris.” It was also recorded and released during a time when Yeezy and his big brother Jay-Z were on much better terms. Although both parties claim it’s all love, their relationship is clearly strained . Thus, a proper sequel to Watch The Throne has been in doubt. Then Yeezy tweeted: “throne2 coming soon.” That’s it, that’s all. Is it Watch The Throne 2 , or actually some ish called throne2 . Is Jay-Z involved? Does he remember sending that tweet? The renowned singer and Mac Miller’s ex-girlfriend paid tribute to the late rapper by posting a photo. Grande published a black & white pic of Mac on Instagram. There was no caption, but it wasn’t necessary in order to get the sentiment. Unfortunately, fans aren’t able to chime in (at the time of this post it has been liked 8.7M times) since she had to disable the comments due to trolls blaming her for the rapper’s death reportedly by overdose . Like we already said, if you said anything of the sort, you suck at life. Ariana Grande and Mac Miller were a couple for about two years and although their split earlier this year wasn’t on the best of terms, she’s clearly hurting at the passing of a loved one.
