Source: PapCulture / Splash News Ain’t she beautiful with all that hair down? Ariana Grande was spotted in NYC looking TF good on this hot and muggy Friday afternoon. In thigh high boots and a sweatshirt, she isn’t necessarily dressed for the warm weather, but at this point we’re just here to appreciate her departure from the ponytail. The superstar singer’s new album, Sweetener , dropped today and as you can see in the photo above, she’s been repping it to the fullest with a cute bag we wouldn’t mind rocking at all. Posting the pic on IG, Ariana captioned the paparazzi moment “Happy Sweetener Day” while fans left comments about her luscious locks. Back in 2014, Ariana explained that her hair was so badly damaged from dye she couldn’t wear it out. She wrote on social media: “Since people give me such a hard time about my hair I thought I’d take the time to explain the whole situation to everybody. I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first four years of playing Cat… as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair. I now wear a wig on Sam & Cat. My real hair is back to brown and I wear extensions but I wear it in a pony tail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down. I tried wigs, they looked RIDICULOUS. Tried a weave because I am working on a new project and want to try some different looks and literally wanted to rip my scalp off. So as annoying as it is for y’all to have to look at the same hairstyle all the time, it’s all that works for now (AND I’m comfortable for the first time in years)…. And trust me, it’s even more difficult for me to have to wait forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined. So PLEASE gimme a break about the hair (or just don’t look at me lol). IT’S JUST HAIR AFTER ALL. There are way way way more important things. Love y’all very much.” So, long story short, we don’t get to see her hair down often. But Ariana is a bad, bad b*tch with her pony too so win, win: Aside from her highly-anticipated album dropping, our girl is also making headlines for her emotional tribute to the late Aretha Franklin on Thursday, August 17. While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , she performed “A Natural Woman” and it was so good, she got a standing ovation by the end of it. See that below, plus more photos of Ariana out and about in NYC on the flip.

Source: Craig Barritt / Getty On this week’s new episode of First We Feast’s number one show Hot Ones , Emmy-nominated creator and actress Issa Rae goes toe-to-toe with host Sean Evans and the famous wings of death. In this episode, you find out if she can handle her spice as she traces her “glow up” from the dorm rooms of Stanford to heights of TV. The Insecure creator also breaks down millennial dating terms, explains how she may have inspired Cardi B ’s career, and graces the Hot Ones stage with one of its most memorable musical performances—and she does it all without taking a sip of water or milk. One especially interesting topic of conversation throughout the episode is Issa addressing the first time she ever hung out with fellow actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish . If you’ve ever heard a story about Haddish at a party before, this might not be anything surprising, but it’s definitely pretty insane. “…One of my first times getting to hang out with Tiffany…She met one of our cast members, who shall remain nameless. I had a little party at my hotel room at Essence Fest, her movie ‘Girls Trip’ had just come out, and we had just all come from seeing the premiere there. And she was like, ‘Where the party at?’ And I was like, ‘Girl, it’s in my hotel. Come through, and then we can go to other places.’ And she meets one of our cast members, comes into the door, does a B-line and is like…’Hey, I’m Tiffany,’ and demonstrates, on the champagne glass, her skills…” “Throughout the night she was drinking more and she sat next to him and got in his face and was just like, ‘You look like a n***a that likes to get slapped. Ima slap you.’ And he was like, ‘Well actually, I don’t. I don’t like to get slapped.’ And she was like, ‘Yes you do, Ima slap you right now and you’ll cum,’ and just continued to berate him…” Beyond that crazy encounter, Rae also talks about the magical time she got invited to Diddy ‘s house for lunch. “I was just sitting court-side [at the All Star Game], I got tickets. And he was diagonal and he came over and asked for a picture with me. I was like, ‘What the fuck?’ And then he invited me to lunch! He was like, ‘Let’s go to lunch,’ and I was like, ‘OK, this is Hollywood.’ He was like, ’No, I wanna have you over my house for lunch.’ And then he really text me and followed through…” Peep all of this and way more on the latest episode of Hot Ones with Issa Rae .

C athy Hughes , the Founder and Chairperson of Urban One, Inc. , who counted Aretha Franklin as a close friend, issued the following statement following the announcement of the Queen of Soul’s death on Thursday: Today I join my community, my industry and the world in mourning the loss and celebrating the life of my dear sister, friend, and ally, Aretha Franklin. I send my love and offer prayers of grace and peace to the members of her family, her friends and colleagues who walked alongside her and shared her with tens of millions of fans around the world. I have so many fond memories of Aretha. Throughout her career, I was blessed to share her music and her iconic story. I am humbled to have been a part of her journey and to have served as an eyewitness to the evolution of her artistry and the formation of her legacy. For more than 60 years, Aretha Franklin shared her gift and touched the world. She was a musical pioneer whose voice defines an era, amplifies a sound and reflects the range of who we are as black people. It is no wonder that Rolling Stone Magazine listed her as number one on its list of “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” Aretha’s music commanded “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” and that song not only became a rallying cry during the civil rights movement but also served as an anthem for women who still identify with its message, today. Her timeless classics also became historical markers in our personal journeys and our collective story as a community. She understood her progress was our progress, her success was our success, and when the door opened for her, it opened for us as well. Aretha was unapologetically black. She was committed to black music and black radio. She understood its role in her career and remained loyal to our company across the years. Like many of our musicians, Aretha’s musical roots are embedded in the black church, and gospel music was at her core. Her talent transcended genres and not only earned her the title of the “Queen of Soul” but also the distinction of being the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And while many will remember her for all of the titles she has received, I believe, Aretha Franklin, in her own words, said it best, “being a singer is a natural gift. It means I’m using to the highest degree possible the gift that God gave me to use. I’m happy with that.” And Aretha Franklin, so are we. Rest in peace my sister. With total love, respect and appreciation, Cathy Hughes Chairperson [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3821346″ overlay=”true”]
