After Years Of Not Wearing Sunscreen As A Black Woman, Here’s Why I Started

Excerpt from:

Source: Pierre-Louis Ferre / Courtesy of Walgreens In February of 2019, Pierre-Louis Ferrer, a Parisian photographer, revealed his latest project, titled RAW. He shot a series of UV portraits using ultraviolet photography. The photos illustrate and show the true undertones of our skin and what the longterm effects of the sun will do on your skin. I had an opportunity to get my photo taken by the photographer through a Walgreens ‘Beneath The Surface’ Beauty & Skincare Event. It was an opportunity for me to see what products Walgreens was offering for summer and why I recently loaded up on sunscreen from my local store. Source: Pierre-Louis Ferre / Courtesy of Walgreens I was actually pretty impressed with my skin. I had the most sun damage on my forehead and inner part of my skin. On-goers marveled at how my skin didn’t have any sun spots. Nevertheless, the dermatologist seemed very concerned about my skin and its condition. She was a white dermatologist and I only mention this because I do believe it’s important to see a specialist who understands and knows your skin tone. Through Dove, I had the opportunity to sit with Dr. Mona Gohara, who chatted with me all things sunscreen and skincare to protect our melanin in the summer. I showed her the illustration and she actually told me my skin was great. I then dropped the big bomb on her. I don’t use sunscreen regularly. I don’t use sunscreen when I’m on vacations because I feel like my skin is deprived from the sun as I’m normally inside and I live in NYC. I’m a sun baby. I grew up in Florida where I regularly felt the rays dance across my skin. Dr. Mona explained that our melanin gives us a natural 13 SPF; however, we still need to do more. “The way Black and brown skin ages is with hyperpigmentation We have melanin, which is our greatest gift. Melanin protects us from the sun. Protecting us from the sun frankly, helps our skin not wrinkle as easy and maintain our elasticity.” She continued, “If you look at an 80-year-old white woman compared to a 80-year-old Black woman, the white woman will have wrinkles and sun spots. Black people will have hyper pigmentation, that’s how we age.” Melanin is our protector, but it’s also the active ingredient that makes us hyper pigment. It wasn’t just me, she sympathized that the average person is not diligent in sunscreen. Dr. Mona shared, “Diligence means a shot glass over your entire body every two hours. That’s how you are supposed to apply sunscreen.” However, it’s not only the sun that we need protecting from. Dr. Mona explained, “Sunscreen isn’t just protecting you from the sun, it’s protecting you from visible light, like light bulbs, and blue light, like your computer and phone.” While we may not be in the sun, how many hours a day do you spend on your phone or your computer? She added, “It’s now about protection from different types of light.” What’s so bad about looking on your phone all the time without protection? Dr. Mona stated, “Visible light can promote malasma and hyper pigmentation, so we are extrapolating other types of light that we’re coming in contact with like the phone and computer can be damaging as well, built we don’t know to what extent.” Source: Dove Beauty Bar / Courtesy of Dove If skin health is a priority, then sunscreen should be a priority. Dr. Mona educated, “90% of the visible signs of aging come from unprotected exposure to ultra violet light.” Black and brown skin also ages with dryness. Dr. Mona excitedly shared, “That’s where the Dove Beauty Bar ($5.49, target.com ) comes in!” She explained, “You should use any chance you get to infuse moisturizer into your skin.” The bar has 1/4 moisturizing cream. I’m in love with the lavender option pictured above and it definitely leaves your skin soft, smooth, and smelling good. Ever since I met with Dr. Mona, I’ve been diligent about my sunscreen and using it daily. The added moisturizing protection from my beauty bar also helps for me to keep my skin supple. What about you beauties? Do you use sunscreen? Will you consider using it more? Terry Crews Confirms ‘White Chicks 2’ Is Underway

Read the rest here:

Source: Jason LaVeris / Getty White Chicks was received pretty well commercially upon its release in 2004, it won three awards and was nominated for 13 more– s o why not do a sequel? Fans of t he movie directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, starring his little brothers, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, will n ow have something to look ‘White Chicks 2’  as confirmed by Terry Crews. The movie, which was about two undercover FBI agents going undercover as white girls to protect them from being kidnapped pulled in a cool $113 million and grossed just over $70 million. One of the more iconic scenes in the movie is when Terry Crews character, Latrell Spencer, takes one of the undercover girls out on a date, Marlon Wayans character, Kevin Copeland, is trying to make this date as unpleasant as possible. On the car ride Kevin turns on a pop station, in an effort to annoy Latrell, well the song that was playing was ‘A Thousand Miles’ by Vanessa Carlton, it created a great scene, and the song became closely tied to the movie. Crews also told  The Talk  on Monday that  White Chicks 2  could see a pop song performance — similar to his iconic rendition of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” — saying, “I think the modern day equivalent to that might be the song by Carly Rae Jepsen ‘Call Me Maybe’.” There have been no further updates, or details about the movie released. But as soon as we get more, we will update. Check out Terry Crews reveal the news bel ow.

Irv Gotti Thinks Hip-Hop Will Embrace Lil Nas X Being Gay [Video]

More:

Source: Lil Nas X / Columbia Records Lil Nas X has once again shocked the world with a recent admission of being gay. Irv Gotti thinks the culture will not blink for a second. TMZ caught up with the acclaimed record producer while in New York City. When approached by the cameraman he was immediately asked about the “Old Town Road” rapper’s sexuality to which he responded “you’re like the fifth person to ask me that”. Regardless of the repetition Lorenzo gave his two cents on the matter. “We don’t care whatever he is – if he’s gay. It’s all good” he explained. Rightfully so the reporter kindly reminded him that Hip-Hop has had a long history of being misogynistic and the Tales producer was spot on with his explanation. “If it was 20 – 30 years ago it would be a shocker. [In] 2019 who cares?” He went on to further the explain his stance. “It’s all good. Just be whoever you are and we’ll accept you.” On June 30, the last day of Pride month, the Atlanta native confirmed he was gay . deadass thought i made it obvious pic.twitter.com/HFCbVqBkLM — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019 While the announcement was met with much praise trollers will still troll. “so that’s what he meant by ride til i cant no more ” pic.twitter.com/U5kck2rMYT — nope (@LilNasX) July 1, 2019 You can view Irv’s interview below. Rumored ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Details Leak, Possibly Inspired By Netflix Show ‘Narcos’

Visit link:

Source: Mario Tama / Getty We still roaming the wild, wild west in Red Dead Redemption 2 , that hasn’t stopped fans for salivating for the next installment in the famed GTA franchise. A Reddit user caused quite a stir on the internet by leaking alleged details for Grand Theft Auto 6 Over the weekend, Reddit user JackOLantern1982 had social media buzzing when he posted a bunch of features he claimed would be in GTA 6 . He claims he acquired the information from a person he knows at online video game publication Kotaku and a “friend” who works Rockstar Games, the studio behind the popular but always controversial title. According to JackOLantern, the next installment has been in development since 2012, will take us back to Vice City and a new fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro and is set in between the 70s-80s. Rumored GTA 6 details: Been in development since 2012 Codename is PROJECT AMERICAS Set in both Vice City and a new fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro Set in 1970s-1980s You play as a drug lord-wannabe named “Ricardo” Inspired by Netflix's Narcos #GTA6 #GTAVI pic.twitter.com/2oH9v1i0Bn — GTA 6 News (@GTA6Intel) June 30, 2019 The leaks also suggest players will control a character named “Ricardo” who is described as a “wannabe drug dealer” with the rumored plot of the highly-anticipated game being “heavily inspired” by the hit Netflix original series Narcos . Other interesting tidbits he shared include is GTA 6 only allowing you to control one character, possible in missions in both Liberty City and supposedly Cuba and somehow the AIDS epidemic being worked into the story. Grand Theft Auto 6 info leaked by a JackOLantern1982 on reddit. #GTA6 #Leak pic.twitter.com/YObgDWB73K — Yash Shukla (@yashshukla23) July 1, 2019 But there is cause for pause with these details. Forbes caught up with video game insider and journalist Jason Schreier he threw cold water on the hot news saying the list is most likely fake. He reasons that the details sound too realistic, while GTA does tackle most relevant pop-culture issues the game does so in a mocking way. He also points to the fact Rockstar hasn’t given any indication it is working on GTA 6 , and with Red Dead Redemption 2 still being the main focus of the studio we shouldn’t be expecting any Grand Theft Auto 6 announcements anytime soon. Besides, Rockstar Games keeps everything it does close to the vest, and we would be shocked if details about GTA 6 did leak out. Not for nothing, it was exciting to read those details, we don’t expect any news about a new Grand Theft Auto game to surface until Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles hit the market. — Photo: Mario Tama / Getty

The Ugly Problem With Chris Brown’s ‘Nice Hair’ Lyrics

Here is the original post:

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty When I first came across Chris Brown’s lyrics about “nice hair” on his latest too-damn-long album Indigo , I refused to get mad. I was tired of self inflicting pain on myself over the fact I do not have what society has deemed “good hair.” I shamed myself for forgiving him after he pummeled Rihanna’s face and questioned how a comment about hair would be the straw that broke the camel’s back. I forgave Chris in the past because of youthful ignorance. Because, back then, I couldn’t decipher the language of domestic abuse. Then I experienced it and understood that what occurred between Rihanna and Chris wasn’t a mutual fight, it was abuse. But with her forgiveness of the troubled singer, I too forgave him and started listening to his music again. Incident after incident, I forgave Chris Brown. After all, I’ve been a Chris Brown fan since the beginning *cue throwback photo of me and Chris at the Scream Tour after party* But a las, Chris Brown doesn’t disappoint (only if you count the fact that he consistently disappoints), and is at the center of controversy again with his admission, “Only wanna f**k the black b**ches with the nice hair.” But Chris Brown, in typical Chris Brown fashion, doesn’t see the problem…or he does and rather fuel flames by jumping on the defense and dare the women who are offended by his comments to post a photo of themselves, because he assumes we’re all ugly with skid row edges. “Weird ass angry people,” he wrote in response to a comment about his lyrics on Instagram. “Sincerely, from the bottom of my balls…I DON’T GIVE A F**K BOUT YALL NEGATIVE BOOTYFACE A** B*TCHES…IM START GIVING AWAY FREE LACE-FRONTS FOR ALL YOU WIERD (sic) FEMALES WIT THE SKID ROW EDGES AND LOW SELF ESTEEM. ASIDE FROM THAT…HOP OFF THESE NUTTS.” And if that wasn’t insulting enough, he took a step further for the visually impaired, “Half y’all look like BUDWEISER FROGS. SO PLEASE DON’T COME WIT DA BULLS**T. I WILL FIRE DAT A** UP AND ROAST THE HELL OUT OF YOU OVERLY SENSITIVE DUCKHEAD A** WIERDOS.” As I continue to grow as a woman and my understanding of beauty standards reaches profound depths, his latest stunt is shameful. Especially when much of his fan base is Black women without “good hair” who forgave him. This latest stunt exposes the Black men who use and abuse Black women to only abandon them in the long run. Brown has built his career on the backs of Black women’s support. From his mother to Rihanna to the little girl (me) who camped out to get her CD signed. We spent our hard earned dollars on his product to only be told we’re ugly Becke we don’t fit with his Fine China. The “good hair” conversation is old and tired like Chris Brown’s drug-fueled antics, but unfortunately, it’s a reality whether people like to acknowledge it or not. And most of the time, we rather not acknowledge it because for those who don’t fit into the category (myself included) it’s painful. And for that very reason, I decided I was going to cut off my emotions and tap out of the “good hair” convo to spare what sanity I had left after a week of social media buffoonery. Yet, here I am. But where there’s a “good hair” fire, there’s colorism smoke and a plethora of misguided “pick me” women and men who think  4c girls are just in our feelings or that Chris Brown or any other colorist’s comments don’t apply to them. To men, it’s just “preference.” I t is absolutely OK to be attracted to to different people for your specific reasons. However, when the basis of your preference is rooted in beauty standards defined by European features, you are no longer in the land of preference, but tap dancing on the plantation. The closer to White, the closer to right. And given Chris Brown’s dating history (Karrueche and Karrueche 2), he clearly has a type. And that type doesn’t include 4c or dark skin women . Outspoke Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star Tokyo Vanity exposed Brown on Instagram accusing the singer of discriminating against dark skin women. “When we was in the club in Miami and in the club in LA, b*tch in your section your rules was ‘No darkies.’ In response to Tokyo calling him out, he posted her bare face on Instastories, with the caption “Damn U fine Babygirl, let me take you to dinner.” When are these entertainers going to get it? And learn that alienating your core audience is career suicide. Brown was barely dancing in the good graces of women post-Rihanna now another assault on us because Black women are clearly dispensable. And if we continue to perpetuate these beauty standards created by our oppressors, we will not grow as a community to a place where colorism is just a conversation versus an overwhelming feeling of not being good enough for even our own people. Do better Chris Brown. RELATED STORIES: Chris Brown Arrested For Felony Assault Warrant After Florida Concert Chris Brown Slammed With A Restraining Order From Another Woman

Levels To This: Lil Nas X Proves Coming Out Is Still Complex, Even After The Pride Flags Come Down

Read the rest here:

Source: Splash News / Splash News On the last day of LGBT+ Pride Month — right before the final rainbow dust settled — country trap sensation Lil Nas X made a big announcement. In a tweet, he included a clip to his song “C7osure (You Like)” and wrote, “Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. But before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.” He then added a rainbow emoji to his words. some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure. pic.twitter.com/O9krBLllqQ — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019   The song “C7osure (You Like)” features lyrics like: “Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow. No more red light for me, baby, only green, I gotta go. Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take a hold. This is what I gotta do, can’t be regretting when I’m old.” Not too long after Lil Nas’ initial tweet, he then posted the album art to his EP called 7, and lo and behold, a building in the city art is covered in rainbow colors. deadass thought i made it obvious pic.twitter.com/HFCbVqBkLM — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019   It was official. Lil Nas X was coming out! Yay! But coming out as what, exactly? Almost instantly, major publications like USA Today and Los Angeles Times   published headlines along the lines of “Lil Nas X Comes Out As Gay,” despite the 20-year-old never confirming his sexuality. Although publications like CNN claim sources close to Lil Nas confirm he’s gay, the young star still hasn’t had a moment to publicly define is sexuality for himself. For some folks, this might be a petty observation, but for people who’ve spent much of their life trying to understand their sexuality, it can be an ongoing journey trying to figure out your identity. Lil Nas could easily be bisexual, pansexual, queer or he might not want to label his sexuality just yet. The subject becomes even more complicated due to his trolling humor. On Twitter, the singer-rapper has already posted cryptic words like “just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m not straight.” just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m not straight — nope (@LilNasX) July 1, 2019   Then, on Instagram, he posted a clip of his song “Panini” with the words, “just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m gay.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lil Nas X (@lilnasx) on Jun 30, 2019 at 6:17pm PDT   Does this mean he likes girls too? Is he here for all the genders? Is he trolling us? WE NEED ANSWERS! Lil Nas X’s “coming out” saga reminds me of another important coming out moment — Frank Ocean ‘s. In 2012, he released a letter describing romantic relationships he’s had with women and men. Automatically, publications like The Washington Post wrote headlines like “Frank Ocean Comes Out As Bisexual.” But again, Frank never mentioned in his letter that he identified as bisexual. He simply said “I was in love.” Some people might have the need to know for sure someone’s sexuality or the specifics of their “coming out,” and this isn’t necessarily an odd feeling depending on the context. It’s hard out here in the dating world and some folks just want to know if they have a chance with their celebrity crush. However, Lil Nas X is teaching us that there are levels to this. He might never mention his sexuality again. He might even leave us guessing for years about what his tweets really mean. Meanwhile, he could be living his best gay life…or straight life…or straight life with a side of gay. Lil Nas also has to figure out the ways he wants to be “out.” Will he be sharing pictures of his future partners on social media? Will he dish on navigating his sexuality in queer-antagonistic spaces? These are questions he must answer for himself, after the pride flags come down, after the last floats set sail in a parade. Although being out publicly is great and has social awareness benefits, anyone understanding their sexual identity must move on their own time. Until the full story comes out (and if it comes out), we’ll just have to be satisfied with Lil Nas’ trolling tweets.

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Is Finally Here & The Fan Reactions Are Coming In Hot

Read more here:

Source: ISABEL INFANTES / Getty Does Spider-Man: Far From Home Live Up To The Hype? A Lot of People Seem To Think So It seems like the cast of Spider-Man: Far From Home has been on a press tour for months now, so it’s probably just as exciting for them as it is for all of us to be able to say that the film is finally out. The movie’s release kicked off with some midnight showings early Tuesday morning and following that, people rushed to their phones and computers to let off their reviews for one of the most highly-anticipated movies this year. Let’s be honest: this film has some huge shoes to fill in more ways than one. For starters, it’s the follow-up to Avengers: End Game , the second highest grossing film in North America, ever. And if that wasn’t enough pressure, it’s also the movie that has the difficult job of closing out the third phase of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Not only that, but people REALLY enjoyed both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse , so whatever way you look at Far From Home , it’s got a whole lot to live up to. Tom Holland reprises his role as Spider-Man as he tries to spend some time with Zendaya’s character MJ while they’re abroad on a school trip. Jake Gyllenhaal also joins the cast to make for a truly star-studded film that will both delight and surprise you throughout the entire two hour runtime. As reviews from critics and those who have some industry connections got to see the film early came in, hype for this movie even more insane in the days leading up to its wide release–But what do the common folk think of the movie? If you haven’t seen the movie (it’s been out for less than 24 hours, so I can’t really blame you….yet) check out some non-spoiler reviews and reactions to those of us who rushed to see it the second it hit theaters. Whoever at Sony decided to release #SpiderManFarFromHome on $5 Tuesday… pic.twitter.com/0AqXdquTrY — Ryan Wright (@RyanPWright) July 2, 2019 That movie had everyone in the movie theater that I was in like… #SpiderManFarFromeHome pic.twitter.com/IrhSPLeMxL — Marc Scott II (@Marc_Scott60) July 2, 2019 #SpiderManFarFromHome was dope!
