‘RHOAS12’ Recap: Porsha and Kenya Bond Over Barbie And Babies

Read this article:

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Real Housewives of Atlanta is back for the twelfth time! Can you believe it has been 12 seasons? Time flies when you’re watching reality TV shenanigans. Anyway, the cast and crew have gone through a lot of changes but this season, Eva, Cynthia, Nene, Porsha, Kandi and even Kenya are back for another round of drama. We knew that Kenya wouldn’t be gone for long, especially with the drama going on with her soon-to-be-ex husband, Marc Daily. Kenya isn’t the only one going through drama with her man. Porsha is also going through it. Porsha’s man Dennis was in #TheBlogs for allegedly cheating on Porsha while she was pregnant. The thing is, Tasha K, the blogger who started the rumor about one woman in particular named Sincerely, is a suspect source. She has a proven track record of literally making rumors up and it has been working for her because snippets of her vlog made it to the episode, but I digress. Anyway, Sincerely ran into Kandi, Cynthia and Eva at Old Lady Gang and told them she doesn’t even know Dennis. The girls take this information back to Porsha and she’s not even all that thrilled because this is just one clearance of many. Now, wasn’t Porsha the same one talking about how she wasn’t gonna as Dennis any questions, back when they first began dating, and proceeded to move at lightning speed? Anyway, she got her baby. Porsha and Kenya both got the babies they desperately wanted and that is the very thing that has brought them together. You already know they’ve had a contentious relationship since they began filming RHOA together, and of course, there was that time when Porsha literally dragged Kenya. All of that is in the past now and they have been connecting not just as new moms, but new moms with man drama. Kenya had a cute Barbie-themed party for Brooklyn just as a way for people to get to meet her. So, the crew came dressed up in various iterations of Barbie to show some love. Porsha and Kenya had a moment with their baby girls where they talked about how they are finally ready to just let it go, and motherhood has a lot to do with that decision. Yay motherhood! So, what do you think? Do you think this friendship will last or is it only a matter of time before they spazz out on each other again? Lastly, speaking of Brooklyn, she actually turned one today!  Kenya posted a sweet message to her daughter on IG today. Check that out along with other pics from the episode. ‘Lady & The Tramp’ Brings Our Favorite Childhood Story To Life With Millennial Twists

Read the original post:

Source: Disney / Disney Disney has been showing off all 2019 and bringing magic to real life with their live action flicks like The Lion King and Aladdin . And in about two weeks, you can add Lady and the Tramp to the list of live action Disney remakes that made you experience the bliss of your childhood imagination IRL. We got a chance to visit the Savannah, Georgia set of the Charlie Bean directed film last year, and hung out with the phenomenal and eclectic cast and crew — including three of the stars of the movie, Kiersey Clemons , Thomas Mann and Yvette Nicole Brown . The live action version of the classic film tells a similar story to the original Disney version: An upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady who meets a streetsmart, downtown stray Schnauzer called the Tramp, and the two embark on many romantic adventures including that iconic spaghetti smooch scene.” However, this time around, the cast is much more diverse in race and age. Thomas and Kiersey play a young couple with a little baby living a super adult life. Thomas told us about landing the role: I was super excited because I never been apart of a Disney before and I was huge fan of Lady and the Tramp as a kid. So obviously it was a no brainer. But I was like ‘Ugh, there’s probably gonna be a lot of guys trying out for this.’ And I also thought I was too young. But obviously that wasn’t the case. I only had to audition one time, then I got it after that. And Kiersey was cast just before me so it was amazing that they put us together. We’re both so young, living this adult life. He even had to grow a mustache for the role. As for Kiersey, she fell in love with the real stars of the film as soon as she began filming. I love the dogs! We cuddle a lot. I would love to take Tramp home, but all the dogs have homes I think Rose (the pup that plays Lady) and I bonded. She runs this set. I can tell when she’s not into it that day. She knows this is her movie. I have lots of respect for Rose. She also dished on how she made her character Darling Dear a little different from the 1955 version: I made her a little assertive. I’m using my imagination alot with like the times, and this fantasy world of it being Disney. And her being this young woman of color. She wears the pants in the relationship and it’s been fun. Fun Facts:  It took about sixteen weeks to train the pups for their roles. All the pups were rescues before being adopted after filming wrapped.  The city of Savannah was another major star of the movie, according to Yvette Nicole Brown: “There’s a certain magic to this city. I think Atlanta would’ve been too big for this movie. The production design looks exactly like 1910. It was very cool to go back in time for a few days.” Just in time for the holidays, Disney is giving us that little spark of joy, magic and wonder that we all need at this time. Catch Lady and the Tramp in theaters on November 12. Tell them we sent you!

A Lil Positivity: Serena Williams’ Hubby Alexis Ohanian Is Taking The Fight For Paid Paternity Leave All The Way To Congress

Source: Dimitrios Kambouris / Getty Alexis Ohanian Is Committed To Fighting For Family Leave After Alexis Ohanian started a paid parental leave policy for his employees at Reddit , he didn’t think he would become one of the most prominent paternal leave advocates in the United States. Since taking four months off from work after his daughter with Serena Williams was born back in 2017, Ohanian has become an unexpected leader in the fight for paid paternal leave. “We implemented a policy that I didn’t think I was going to be using anytime soon, but a few years later I found myself using and talking about [it] publicly.” The Reddit co-founder said in an interview with Business Insider . “Before I went on leave, I planned to use my entire four months and was casually asked about it on CNBC. I didn’t think anything of it other than, ‘Oh, here’s this great policy, and I should use it.’” Now, not only is Ohanian advocating for his beliefs on social media, but he’s taking the fight all the way to Congress. In October, Alexis ended up spending an entire week on Capitol Hill lobbying business leaders and lawmakers for a national family leave policy. “Because Olympia’s birth was such a complicated one and I watched everything that my wife went through and persevered through … I realized that we had so many advantages and yet this was still such a traumatic experience,” Ohanian recalled. “I couldn’t imagine anyone being put in [that situation] without the peace of mind knowing that they had paid leave.” Since the birth of his daughter, Alexis has been using his social platforms to celebrate fatherhood and the way it has transformed his outlook on life. He has become a serious advocate for paid paternity leave, recently partnering with Dove Men+Care to promote The Pledge for Paternity Leave: a program offering grants to working dads to help them care for their newborns full-time. Last month, Ohanian spent a week away from his venture capital firm to meet with Congressional leaders and discuss legislation for federally mandated paid leave. He believes a federal mandate for paid family leave is the best way to ensure all workers–especially those in low wage jobs and with disabilities–can take time off to be with their families. Fathers getting time off to spend with their little ones is so important, good on Alexis for fighting the good fight!

What The Hell??? Anti-Vax Mom Brags About Handing Out Lollipops Contaminated With Chickenpox For Halloween

Source: Bambu Productions / Getty Anti-Vax Mom Hands Out Chickenpox Lollipops For Halloween A mother who is a strong advocate for anti-vaccination took to social media this week to let everyone know about her decision to give out tainted lollipops this Halloween . The Australian woman–who identifies herself online as Sarah Walker RN–posted in the private Facebook group “Stop Mandatory Vaccination,” saying that her son contracted chickenpox and she planned to “help” other children by spreading the virus through candy. “So my beautiful son [redacted] has the chickenpox at the moment and we’ve both decided to help others with natural immunity this Halloween!” she wrote. “We have the packaging open and closing down pat and can’t wait to help others in our community.” What….the f***? Walker’s message ended up making it out of the anti-vax community and a screenshot and shared on Light for Riley , a page dedicated to protecting “babies & families from vaccine-preventable diseases” in honor of Riley Hughes, a baby boy who died from whooping cough. Though the mother claims to be a registered nurse at the “Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane” on her Facebook page, Queensland Health confirmed that she was never employed at any of its medical facilities. After getting negative responses to her chickenpox plan, Walker took to Facebook once again to double down on her plan, despite backlash online. “Dear internet trolls,” she wrote. “You think you’re right by judging me and my trying to report me and get me fired. I don’t care. The health and wellbeing of my baby is far more valuable than any job…You say I’m vile and gross like I have done something that hundreds of thousands of parents haven’t already done. How many times do you see children dropped off to day care or school when they’re clearly sick and contagious? Exactly!” She continued, “I’m offering life long immunity for the price of a couple of blisters and a few days off school.” Luckily, whether or not Walker actually went ahead with her weird scheme, Queensland Health told News.com.au that the risk of chickenpox transmission from such lollipops would be extremely low, since the virus does not survive long on surfaces. But, if she were to be found guilty of food tampering, or making false claims to do so, she could be facing serious prison time.

Hampton University Professor Leads Initiative To Bring Health Screenings To Black Barbershops

View post:

T here is power that lies in the cultural influence of barbershops; especially within the Black community. These establishments have become far more than places where folks come to get their haircut; they’ve evolved into safe spaces where everything from political and social issues to health are discussed. A group of students from Hampton University is tapping into the impact of Black barbershops by utilizing them as an avenue to spread awareness about cancer prevention within the African American community, Southside Daily reported. Nursing professor pilots black men’s health screening program in a Hampton barbershop https://t.co/JASIj7V18s — Daily Press (@Daily_Press) October 18, 2019 The HBCU students teamed up with Hampton University nursing professor Jonathan Romero to launch an initiative called the “Barbershop Outreach Project” which was designed to address the disproportionate survival rates amongst men after they are diagnosed with cancer. Romero and the students—who are all pursuing nursing and pre-med degrees—teamed up with the Hampton-based barbershop BK’s Barbershop to provide health screenings for Black men. The project was created to cultivate a stronger relationship between Black men and the health system and to insert the importance of health screenings into barbershop conversations. “We set up right at the side of the building and we just asked ‘would you be interested in talking to us about your health?’” Romero told the news outlet. “Machismo or masculinity stubbornness will kill you in our community and has killed people in our community. People don’t seek out care so others won’t think they’re weak.” He hopes that Hampton University will be the leading force of change when it comes to Black health in the local community. As far as what’s on the horizon for the Barbershop Outreach Project, the organizers are planning to host more health-focused events at other barbershops. Black barbershops have become vessels for social change on many fronts. Through his program Barbershop Books , entrepreneur Alvin Irby is bringing literature to barbershops across the country to inspire young African American boys to read. B lack women are thriving in the realm of entrepreneurship despite the obstacles they face when it comes to securing capital for their business ventures. Research shows that although less than one percent of Black women entrepreneurs receive venture capital funding, they are the fastest-growing group of business owners in the country. Hair care entrepreneur Muhga Eltigani is one of the many female founders making power moves in business. According to Inc. , the NaturAll Club founder recently became one of about 50 Black women in the country to raise $1 million in funding. Some of the products include Fresh Avocado Deep Conditioner, Jamaican Black Castor Oil Growth Serum, and a handmade flaxseed gel. Last year Eltigani won $500,000 in a startup competition but decided to turn down the prize because it would have required her to move her Philadelphia-based company to Buffalo, New York. She wanted to wait for an opportunity that was in alignment with her brand. Her patience paid off and she received an investment from New Voices Fund CEO Richelieu Dennis . Dennis initially made a $1 million investment and after plans for Eltigani’s company grew, he decided to invest another $4 million. Dennis is dedicated to ensuring that women of color entrepreneurs have access to venture capital funding. “The facts about investments in women of color entrepreneurs, particularly black women, are astonishing,” Dennis told the news outlet. “Entrepreneurship among women of color has increased more than 320 percent, but less than 1 percent of those women receive access to the funding needed to sustain and grow their businesses. This is unacceptable.” Several individuals are stepping up to address the funding gap for Black women. Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam teamed up with entrepreneur Arian Simone to launch the Fearless Fund ; a $5 million venture capital fund to support startups created by women of color. Over It: Summer Walker Says She’s ‘Done’ With The Music Industry Amid Constant Criticism From Fans

Source: Julia Beverly  Summer Walker Says She’s Done With The Music Industry Summer Walker’s debut project “Over It” is the current soundtrack to her life. The songstress announced this weekend that she’s “done” with the industry; “interviews, photoshoots, videos and shows” after she finishes her current “Over It” tour. Why? Well because according to Summer’s she’s been harshly criticized by fans who can’t accept her “differences” and think she should participate in a “Miss America bad b*** contest” every day. This comes after fans went IN on the singer when she revealed that she “hates showers” with a picture of a basin filled with face wash, wipes, a foaming bath product, micellar water, and baby oil gel. She later clarified that she “hates showers” because she prefers to take baths. Illinois Buffalo Wild Wings Asked Birthday Party To Move Because Racist “Regular” Didn’t Want Blacks Sitting Nearby

Source: SplashNews / Splash News Post About Naperville Buffalo Wild Wings Goes Viral After Customers Are Asked To Move Because Racist Didn’t Want Them Nearby The ranch is real rancid y’all. A Naperville Buffalo Wild Wings is under intense scrutiny after a group of patrons decided to leave after being asked to move tables because a regular customer didn’t want blacks sitting nearby. According to Chicago Tribune reports: Justin Vahl and Marcus Riley said they visited the Buffalo Wild Wings on 75th Street east of Route 59 to celebrate a child’s birthday about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26. He was the first in his group to arrive at the restaurant, Vahl said, and he initially told the host he needed seating for 15 people. As the staff was setting up the tables, he said he realized he’d miscounted and went to the tables to discuss adding more chairs for three more kids. Vahl returned to the waiting area, where the host — who Vahl described as a young black man — asked, “What race are you?” Vahl asked why it mattered. He said the host explained that one of the restaurant’s regular customers seated nearby “doesn’t want black people sitting near him.” “I’m not going to let a customer dictate where we sit,” Vahl said, and he told the host to seat the party at the table. Vahl said a manager then approached the group shortly after speaking with the regular customer and his guest. The manager told Vahl’s group they needed to move because the tables had been reserved by another party of 18. A reporter from the Naperville Sun called the restaurant after the incident and was told the Naperville location does not take reservations. So… Obviously somebody was LYING. After multiple managers attempted to get their group to move, Vahl said the six adults in the group opted to go to another restaurant — but that move prompted questions from their children, making the already painful experience even worse. “I’ve never in my entire life experienced something like. To have my children go through that, it brought me to tears,” Riley said. SAD AF. This is Trump’s ‘MeriKKKa y’all. Our children aren’t safe. Justin Vahl’s wife Mary posted about the incident on social media. Claire Kudlata, coordinator of brand communications, said in an email to the Tribune that Buffalo Wild Wings has zero tolerance for discrimination: “We take this alleged incident very seriously and are conducting a thorough, internal investigation,” Kudlata said in the email. “We’re in direct communication with the guest to understand their account of what happened and to offer our deepest apologies for any unacceptable behavior.” Deepest apologies? What the hell is that supposed to do. They’ll be lucky not to be sued.
