Oprah Opens Up About Her Bad Case Of Pneumonia, And Why It’s “Nothing To Play With”

Source: George Pimentel / Getty During a recent sit down interview with Ellen Degeneres , media mogul Oprah Winfrey opened up about how I recent brush with pneumonia almost got very serious. Winfrey stopped by the talk show while promoting her upcoming tour, when she revealed she had just gotten cleared after a nasty battle with pneumonia. “So, here it is. I came back from overseas and I thought I had a cold — but it wasn’t a cold. I ended up in the emergency room and they said, ‘You have pneumonia.’ And I go home, and pneumonia is nothing to play with, y’all. It is very serious. And I was on antibiotics for a week and the antibiotics weren’t working. And then I go back for another CT scan and they go, ‘It’s actually worse. You should see a lung specialist,” she said. Tekashi 6ix9ine Could Be Entered Into The Witness Protection Program

Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital It’s no secret that Tekashi 6ix9ine has become the most famous snitch in pop culture since Salvatore “Sammy The Bull” Gravano flipped on J ohn Gotti and the Gambino crime family back in the late 90’s. With countless memes having been made comedically highlighting his dime dropping ways, Tekashi’s name has become synonymous with snitching across the Hip-Hop world with little to no sympathy for the troll turned government informant. But what will become of the rainbow-haired rapper once he gets out of prison and presumably thrown into the witness protection program? Will he still have a career in rap? Would artists and producers be willing to work with him as he walks around with that bright as his hair scarlet “S” on his person? Could he even live a normal life in the age of social media? The New York Times recently published a piece exploring what could await Daniel Hernandez once he gets out of prison and possibly leaves his Tekashi 6ix9ine days behind him. Minya Oh, best known as Miss Info, the founder of the hip-hop news website MissInfo.tv and a former host on the rap radio station Hot 97 in New York, called the 6ix9ine saga a “Greek telenovela tragicomedy,” and predicted that he would face a complex conundrum upon being released: curiosity would be at an all-time high, but within the hip-hop community, so would animus. “In the attention economy, just knowing that 6ix9ine might open his mouth somewhere is like shipping platinum,” she said. “But nobody with any of their own value will ever stand next to him. So he has to exist in a vacuum and can’t leave his house. All doable things for an artist in 2019 and beyond.” Labels would be reticent to allow their artists to work with him, Ms. Oh added, “But they all think when he gets out of jail, he will be a big draw.” But at what cost to the reputation of the label or the artist they pair with Hip-Hop’s “Henry Hill” ? Should Tekashi try and find that there is no path for him to get back into the rap game on the monumental scale he was at the height of his pre-snitch career, he can always go about the life of an everyday civilian getting by on a 9 to 5. Such a path would not be unprecedented. The government has successfully relocated and protected high-profile witnesses in the past; mobsters have started over as bakery owners, and reformed assassins have found new careers as doll salesmen, two former federal law enforcement officials said. “Despite how connected we are, and the appetite for social media content in this country, there are places where, if this kid gets a haircut and wears normal clothes, no one would know or care who he is,” said Jay Kramer, a former F.B.I. official who worked on organized crime cases. He might have to come out of pocket to get rid of his very recognizable face tattoos though as it doesn’t seem like the US is going to be coming out of pocket for cosmetic purposes. There is almost nothing in Mr. Hernandez’s background that suggests a capacity for discretion, and it is unlikely the United States Marshals Service, which runs the witness protection program, would pay for the removal of Mr. Hernandez’s signature face tattoos. If Tekashi decides to keep his facial features intact he might as well be signing his own death warrant because that alone is that visible scarlet letter that the world has become familiar with.

“Born Again” MAGA Enthusiast Kanye West Reportedly Will Take Sunday Service Nation Wide

Source: Consolidated News Pictures / Getty Rumors have been circulating that MAGA Ye wanted to open his own church , but according to reports Kanye West wants to take his Sunday Service sessions across the country. Yeezy and his traveling choir could be coming to a church or whatever venue he chooses to put religious spins on your favorite classics soon. According to Page Six , the “born again” rapper wants to take his newfound love for remixing secular songs with gospel music across the nation. Per Page Six : Kanye’s had three prayer-type sessions in three weeks. He calls them his Sunday Service. First at his California home. Just family and friends. Then Chicago where he was raised. Then Atlanta, where he was born. He plans to continue this mission across the country. The man travels with a gospel chorus. They sing at the services. He just preached in front of 1,000 congregants and told how “reconnecting with my faith has helped me be a better husband and father.” He performed with a gospel choir and sang one of his own songs. After the service, Kanye greeted comedian Chris Tucker, Jermaine Dupri, and Nelly. No pew was reserved for  Taylor Swift . This seems totally on par with West holding a service at Monster Lake Ranch in Cody. Wyoming , recently. There he covered Nirvana classics much to the delight of those who attended. I’m so sad I’m not there!!! https://t.co/f4gMlpaLSO — Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) September 22, 2019 There are still many on the fence with Ye’s foray into religion with many questioning if this is just a money grab or him genuinely wanting to spread the word. We are down with anything that helps him get his mind right, BUT we still waiting on him to denounce wearing the red hat and canoodling with the racist-in-chief, Donald Trump. This also follows the news that his rumored “gospel album” Jesus Is King is on the way. — Photo: Consolidated News Pictures / Getty

Will Smith Will Portray Harlem Crime Boss Nicky Barnes In Upcoming Netflix Film, ‘The Council’

Source: VALERIE MACON / Getty W e already got a film revolving around Frank Lucas portrayed by Denzel Washington in American Gangster , now its Nicky Barnes turn. Collider is reporting that Will Smith will take on the role of the Harlem crime boss in the Netflix film The Council . Two-time Oscar nominee @WillSmith finds his 'American Gangster,' as he's set to play notorious NYC crime boss Nicky Barnes in the Netflix movie 'The Council.' https://t.co/hYySb58gqk — Collider (@Collider) September 24, 2019 The Council will see the actor teaming up with Peter Landesman again who also wrote Concussion which Smith also starred in. Per Collider: Concussion  filmmaker  Peter Landesman wrote the script, which delves into the never-before-told story of a crime syndicate consisting of seven African-American men who ruled Harlem in the 1970s and early ’80s. This was no ordinary crime syndicate, as the men dreamed of a self-sufficient and self-policing African American city-state, funded by revolutionizing the drug game. The movie centers on the Shakespearean court intrigue between The Council’s king, Nicky Barnes, dubbed “Mr. Untouchable” by the New York Times, and all the different members — as one unlikely rising protégé emerges. The Council won’t be Barnes first time on the big screen. In 2007’s American Gangster he was portrayed by Cuba Gooding Jr. and wasn’t too pleased that story revolved around Lucas. Barnes was arrested and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He eventually became a federal informant after he became upset with how his criminal empire was being run while he was behind bars. Barnes was released in 1998 and placed in witness protection. He passed away in 2012, information about his death wasn’t released until this year. Issa Rae Invests In Black Woman-Led Tech Startup

T hroughout her entire career actress and producer Issa Rae has utilized her platform and work in the entertainment industry to empower Black women, and now she’s doing the same in the tech space. According to Variety , Rae recently invested in a Black woman-led startup. Issa Rae Acquires Stake in Streamlytics, a Streaming-Media Data Startup https://t.co/8QU69UHKH3 — Variety (@Variety) September 24, 2019 The Los Angeles-based company—dubbed Streamlytics—was founded by entrepreneur Angela Benton . The startup—which was created in 2018—utilizes media consumption data to bring transparency to the content consumed on popular streaming services and gives consumers the ability to own their data. Benton, who founded the first global accelerator for people of color, has been a fierce advocate for diversity and inclusion in tech. She hopes to use Streamlytics as an avenue to generate data that reflects the choices of viewers of color. Through Streamlytics she wants to create a space where minority consumers can not only access their streaming data but can monetize it as well. So far, the company has used data from Netflix and plans on expanding to other platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and social media sites. Benton is grateful to have Rae on board. “Having Issa involved as an owner is beyond exciting,” she said in a statement. “Her pioneering work as both a creator and as a businesswoman creating digital-first content that has transcended the internet-only medium aligns seamlessly with our company’s core values on ownership.” Rae is excited to invest in a company that will change the landscape of streaming data. She says platforms like Streamlytics are “necessary for transparency and consumer ownership.” Companies like the one created by Benton are needed as studies show that African American media usage is higher across different platforms. Black women are stepping up to invest in women of color-led startups. The Fenty Fix: Is Rihanna Choosing Money Moves Over Music?

Rihanna is building an inclusive beauty and fashion empire the world has never seen before. I’m not even hyperbolizing. It’s all true with receipts to back it up. She launched the most inclusive makeup collection with 50 shades from from fair to deep cocoa before creating a lingerie line that doesn’t make women desire to be the fantasy, but rather remind them they’ve always been the fantasy, regardless of shape, size, color, or condition. No male approval needed. View this post on Instagram @savagexfenty’s new June drop!! OUT NOW! savagex.com A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri) on Jun 1, 2019 at 7:07am PDT She’s truly dominated the fashion and beauty space since entering in 2014. As the creative director at PUMA, she increased the brand’s earnings at a net income increase of 92% for the quarter, with the company’s share price rising €200 since her role was announced, according to Billboard . Let’s not forget her Fenty Puma creeper was crowned FNAA’s 2016 Shoe of the Year . And, as of May 2019, Rih launched her luxury fashion line Fenty with LVMH (the French French luxury goods company that owns Christian Dior, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton), becoming the first woman ever to do so. Thanks to these boss moves, sis is the wealthiest female musician in the world . Yes, musician. Which brings me to my point. As Rih Rih expands her brand grows into her very own right as a mogul, her music seems to suffer and it’s not like fans haven’t noticed. Neon zebra-print undies and perfectly pigmented lip paints can only distract us for so long. Don’t get me wrong, I own a few (read, a lot) of Fenty items between makeup and clothing , but when it comes down to it, I’m a Rihanna fan, and as a fan I’m alway going to want what I originally came for, and that’s music (followed closely by her ability to throw shade). View this post on Instagram @fenty A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri) on May 27, 2019 at 4:11am PDT It’s been a cool three years since Rihanna released ANTI which featured SZA and Drake. In May 2018, she told Vogue fans can expect something a bit more Caribbean and “devoted to exploring [her] Caribbean roots.” View this post on Instagram #GuavaIsland @amazonprimevideo hit the link in my bio A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri) on Apr 17, 2019 at 4:08pm PDT In December 2018, a fan asked Rihanna when she planned to release R9 by writing under a promotional photo of Fenty Stunna Lip Paint in Flamingo Acid. “2019” she said. Looks like Rihanna is dropping her album in 2019. pic.twitter.com/RfQq9T6AZ2 — Karen Civil (@KarenCivil) December 22, 2018 Looks like she’s got about three months before The Navy riots. But seriously, on Sept. 10, Rihanna shared more heartbreaking news concerning her album while on the red carpet for her Savage X Fenty fashion show. “Y’all gon’ have to wait Navy. I’m so sorry,” she said to Entertainment Tonight . https://twitter.com/musicnewsfact/status/1171771545934422021 She also refuted reports she’d be performing at the Super Bowl. “Girl, I still got an album to finish. You’re asking me about the Super Bowl, really? My fans are about to have my neck,” she finished. Hmm… this sort of statement kinda sounds like the album is far from finished. View this post on Instagram Nobody: Me: Album coming in 2019 Navy in July: A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri) on Jul 11, 2019 at 11:22am PDT Come to think about it, Rih’s been silent on the album front ever since speaking with Vogue in May 2018. Her Instagram doesn’t let on that she’s in the booth and no producers have spilled any beans on making any in-studio magic. So, is the album ever coming? There may be some hope yet. During the same conversation, Rihanna let on that she’d be more than willing to collaborate with alternative rap artist Lizzo , on anything. “I would collaborate with her on the lights for this interview right now, like Lizzo is so badass.” She definitely is and hopefully she can light a fire under our beloved Bajan beauty. After extensive research, this is all we got — a promise and a whole lot of makeup and undies to wait out the remaining three months. Sigh… I’m crossing my fingers for 2019 R9 , but I don’t suggest holding your breath. DON’T MISS: Can Y’all Stop Speculating On Rihanna’s Womb & Just Let Her Eat? H&M Responds To Criticism Over Young Black Girl’s Ad Appearance, “That’s What We Were Going For.”

Source: SOPA Images / Getty Oh H&M . The Swedish based company is back under fire again after an ad appeared online with a young Black girl’s natural hair looking unkempt. The disheveled ad was blasted by celebrity hairstylist  Vernon François , who shared the photo on Instagram and noted that he sees “situations like this happen time and time again. And it’s got to stop.” “It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the  @hm_kids campaign,” François wrote. ” Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again.  And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more than capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community” View this post on Instagram It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the @hm_kids campaign.  Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again.  And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more then capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community sitting in front of a mirror being ignored by the team around her, left to her own devices because someone didn’t know how to handle her texture. As if that’s not bad enough…. Prior to this campaign appearing this photograph will have been seen and APPROVED by countless ‘professionals'. Lets say conservatively 50 people. It’s breathtaking to me that not one person looked at this shot and had the same reaction that the internet seems to be feeling since the campaign broke.  THAT IS AN ISSUE.  We must do better.  Our girls, our young women deserve better.  Let this be a moment of learning. #Education is key #wehavetodobetter #vernonfrancois #Ignorance #blackgirlmagic #allhairisgoodhair A post shared by Vernon François (@vernonfrancois) on Sep 19, 2019 at 9:33pm PDT Since the outrage, H&M has responded to the backlash but not in a way that you would expect. The discount retail giant revealed that all of the children were photographed the same way and that the idea was to capture them in their natural state after school, which left many to argue that it wasn’t H&M’s fault for the child’s appearance, but the parent’s. “We are aware of the comments regarding one of our models for H&M Kids. We truly believe that all kids should be allowed to be kids. The school-aged kids who model for us come to the photo studio in the afternoon after school and we aim for a natural look which reflects that,” H&M said in a statement to Yahoo . Although the family of the young girl in question has yet to respond, the fact remains that while all of the children in the subsequent ads look tousled, African-Americans have yet to accept and truly embrace 4b and 4c textured hair. Even when you look at our own ads for hair care and promoting the “natural” look, most women chosen have textures that are still very Eurocentric. It’s no secret that women in the natural community have often voiced their disdain over not feeling adequate with their natural textures, due to 3b and 3c being the heavily promoted look-so the question isn’t who’s to blame, it’s are we really being honest about our own feelings regarding textures with tighter coils? As Bustle points out, 4b and 4c hair have long been viewed as the “bad hair grade”, but many had hoped with the explosion of the natural hair movement in the early 2000s that we would rewrite the narrative, but as we can see by our own words during the controversy, we still have a long ways to go. H&M AT IT AGAIN They wrong for that. Where the child mama? I hope she sue them for public humiliation, defamation of character, and discrimination They could had a stylist touch this child hair. Pathetic pic.twitter.com/egxNJza1Sz — Shawda' Love (@Shawdaaaa) September 20, 2019 “There was a period in time that I hated my hair,” Charlene Akuamoah, a stylist said in her interview with the publication . “I thought it was so difficult to manage: It was rough, the curls were too tight, it didn’t look ‘presentable,’ it was always dry, and I felt like I looked better with straight hair. I [thought] that my hair had to be tamed.” Sentiments echoed throughout the complaint of the child’s appearance in the ad. While H&M is undoubtedly tone-deaf regarding race in advertisements, this time the fingers we are pointing should be aimed at the real perpetrators-us. Please people, let’s uplift this little girl! She’s killing her H&M shoots with her natural 4C hair. Lil sis is serving us poses and she looks happy and beautiful #Queenin pic.twitter.com/8z92Gi51rF — insta:msyasmine (@msyasmine_) September 20, 2019 I don't blame h&m, i blame the interwoke folks whos heroes are internet goddesses with 4c buns and TEXTURIZED edges. — ike slimster (@iKeslimster) September 21, 2019 Why y’all keep singling out the one black girl from the H&M ad? ALL the kids’ hairstyles were messed up. How come the other children aren’t getting this backlash? Hair texture got y’all twisting for excuses like pretzels. But anywho- pic.twitter.com/ksludbLayc — Tenille Clarke (@tenilleclarke1) September 20, 2019 There is a little Black girl whose face is floating around the internet who should be celebrating landing a modeling opportunity for H&M right now. Instead she’ll have to see commentary over how her hair should’ve looked better. — Negrita (@HustleAndFro_) September 20, 2019 Hopefully, the reality and exposure of the tainted way we still view our natural selves will help us change the narrative in our own community. Representation matters, especially when you see it loved among the very people you are representing to the world.

Beauty Talk: Jhene Aiko Loves Blotting Papers For Daytime Makeup

Source: Cindy Ord / Getty If there is one celeb we can swap skincare routines with, Jhene Aiko would definitely top the list! Let’s be honest, her skin is the true epitome of beauty goals ! While we know that makeup is a huge part of her lifestyle, but we can’t help but notice that her skin is always picture-perfect. So, it’s no surprise that she scored the gig as the global face of Kat Von D Beauty’s latest foundation line. There is no denying that trying to learn our favorite celebs beauty routines can be a bit tricky. From their high-priced beauty treatments and sometimes bizarre routines, finding a way to incorporate their skincare practices into our everyday lives is easier said than done. However, the “Triggered” singer is giving us a glimpse of her go-to products. In a recent interview with ESSENCE , the star couldn’t stop raving about a skincare product that she says saves her skin while wearing makeup. “It’s been hot right now in LA, so with that daytime makeup, you’ve got to make sure you have your blotting papers on you,” she tells ESSENCE . “Because if you just let it sit and it gets oily, then that sits on your face, that’s going to turn into a bump. So I personally always have to have blotting paper.” She continued, “And just for sure, wash your face. Wash that makeup off as soon as you can; it’s a big one. Because if you leave makeup on, like three days later you’ll have a big bump coming up.” We definitely agree! Blotting papers do a fabulous job of lifting away oils without disturbing our makeup. Personally, I like to use Fenty Beauty’s Invisimatte Blotting Papers ($16.00, fentybeauty.com ) to get the job done. While we all love how makeup enhances our beauty, it can have adverse effects on our skin if we don’t remove the product properly. Having a solid skincare routine is the only way to ensure that your skin will get the nourishment it needs. What say you? Are you a fan of blotting papers? What products do you use to control oily makeup?  Lets us know down in the comments below!
