The elaborate college admissions scheme played out through a series of b ribes, photoshopped photos, fraudulent test scores and more as a way to admit unqualified students through athletic scholarships for sports the “recruits” would rarely if ever play on the collegiate level. Actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman became the faces of the scandal, for which they were criminally charged last week. This incident has invited heavy scrutiny on colleges’ admissions practices that stack the odds against countless applicants who have been denied deserved spots at schools of their choice. Understandably, Black and brown students have been particularly outraged. Students of color have historically been accused of not earning their seat at the table because of race-based affirmative action policies. Their merits have been called into question while, as it turns out, the wealthy elite were benefitting from what has been called a broken college admissions system . A recent example of this outrage is the 2016 Fisher v. The University of Texas case that went to the Supreme Court. Abigail Fisher claimed the University of Texas denied her admission based on her race. The Supreme Court would uphold affirmative action as a constitutional practice . Some have even argued that this admissions scandal illustrates the validity of why affirmative action is still important. Source: Justin Sullivan / Getty CVS is officially getting into the business of offering its customers CBD products–and that’s a pretty big deal. In a statement to FOX Business , the drugstore chain said that it started selling CBD products–or products with cannabidiol–which is the non-psychoactive component of marijuana, last week in select states across the country. Curaleaf Holdings Inc. has announced that CVS is going to sell its CBD products in roughly 800 locations upon launch, per MarketWatch’s report on a Curaleaf earnings conference call held on Wednesday. CVS currently stands as the biggest drugstore chain in the entire nation, so this move is a huge step in the latest coup for cannabis commerce at large. “We have partnered with CBD product manufacturers that are complying with applicable laws and that meet CVS’s high standards for quality,” a company representative said about the announcement, adding that “as of last week” CBD products including creams and lotions were already being sold at locations in eight different states. More than 800 stores in Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and Tennessee will now offer CBD products as part of a distribution deal with Canadian marijuana company Curaleaf Holdings Inc. Cannabis is currently legal for medicinal use in 33 states and D.C., with 10 states boasting the full-blown recreational legalization distinction. As a result, the legal weed industry bagged a whopping $10.4 billion in 2018 alone. CBD is not really what anyone is looking for in terms of a achieving a recreational high, but for some reason, it is still a source of mild controversy for some. Outgoing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Scott Gottlieb predicted earlier this month that without some sort of action at the congressional level, the development of agency rules and regulations on the use of hemp-extracted cannabidiol in food could take years. CBD has been getting a lot of publicity from people suffering from certain mental health issues, with claims that it helps ease anxiety and other conditions. The product recently received a raving public testimonial from Lamar Odom , who partially credits it with saving his life. “It’s a perfect time to offer these cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am,” Odom told The Blast last year. Following the news of CVS’ new product addition, CEO Larry Merlo said on CNBC that the move was prompted by its customers, who have used CBD products in the past and said it helped with pain relief for arthritis and other ailments. Law enforcement sources tell us she appeared to be intoxicated — so much so the judge ordered her to undergo drug and alcohol testing immediately. Spoiler alert — the new mug shot was also a dead giveaway — but she failed. We’re told Tommie’s BAC was 0.16 … twice the legal limit, and a violation of her bond. Tommie was arrested on the spot, and no bail’s been set yet. On Thursday, the social media giant reveled it didn’t properly mask the passwords of hundreds of millions of its users and stored them in an internal database that could be accessed by its staff. The company told CNN , it discovered its mistake during a security review in January and launched an investigation shortly afterwards. Facebook has not said how long they have been storing passwords in this way. It will be notifying hundreds of millions of Facebook users and tens of thousands of Instagram users if their passwords were involved. Read More: CNN

Earlier this week the company brought back the iPad Air and iPad Mini , and today they snuck the second generation of its popular wireless Airpods. So what’s new? Well, the new $160 AirPods sport a new H1 chip specifically made for the second generation of Apple’s wireless accessory. The company boasts that it will give users more talk time, faster connectivity and now the ability to beckon the iPhone’s virtual assistant by saying “Hey Siri.” What Apple fans were eagerly waiting for was the arrival of the wireless charging case, but there is a catch it will cost you an extra $40 if you want it. You can also purchase it alone for $80 if you already own a pair of AirPods and don’t feel the need to upgrade. Everything is available now by the way and will land in stores next week. Even though you supposedly get up to 50 percent more talk time and faster connectivity, spending $200 or $80 for a new case isn’t really worth it. Fresh out of jail again Robert Kelly has made a return to social media early on March 20th. This is his first post since the beginning of 2019 and since the domino of legal troubles that have haunted him this year. So what did R. Kelly have to say? Nothing really but he did break out in song for his estranged daughters birthday. R. Kelly hasn’t seen his daughter in over two years and she made it clear a while ago that she wanted nothing to do with him calling him a “monster” in January and saying that “it has been years since my siblings and I have seen or have spoken to him.” But that didn’t stop R. Kelly from sending well wishes for her 21st birthday. But showing how out of touch he really is with his children, he called her by her birth name Joanne. But she no longer goes by her birth name now calling herself Buku Abi to separate herself even more from her father and the name Kelly. While R. Kelly has the comments turned off on his Instagram account he did not on Twitter and of course many had something to say about his message to his daughter. Sometimes, we don’t even realize the patterns in our speech, the types of words and phrases we’re prone to using, and our overall tone. And, really, the way we sound often isn’t the way we mean to sound. When we mean to say something encouraging, we can accidentally say something that sounds foreboding. When we mean to just do some brainstorming, we can sound like we’re doubting ourselves. The somewhat scary—or good, depending on which way you go—thing is that, the words we say actually influence our thinking and outlook. We hear ourselves say things, and then our subconscious takes in those messages, internalizing them. It’s a vicious cycle, or a good one, depending on what you say. It’s out of my hands Sometimes saying this can be a good thing, if you’re saying it when you’ve truly done all you can to make things go your way, and at this point, just need to let the pieces fall where they may. But sometimes, people say this when they haven’t even put in the work to have something yet, and have just decided that, due to the way the world works, due to injustices and unfair systems, it’s out of their hands. No matter what they do. 2. People are the worst Yes, sometimes people can be frustrating. But just because someone cuts you off in traffic or cuts you in line at the grocery store doesn’t mean that all people are the worst. Saying this regularly will put a negative lens on the way you interpret all actions of others. 3. This would happen to me Your flight is delayed, the Internet goes down just as you’re sending over that job application, and you say, “This would happen to me.” But, first off, that’s rather self-involved. Those kinds of things happen to a lot of people, every day. But second off, this sentence carries the idea that you’re cursed in some way or things aren’t supposed to work out for you. That mentality won’t get you far. 4. I’m not good at insert skill here Negotiating, people skills, promotion, networking—you name it. When you tell yourself that you’re not good at that, you remove the most important thing you need to be good at any of those: confidence. 5. Prepare for the worst Perhaps you think you’re protecting yourself by always keeping your expectations extremely low. You think that, by never hoping for something, you’ll never be let down. But you’ll also spend every day living with the feeling as if the worst has already happened. That’s a shame, and a waste of some perfectly good days.
