Philly Man Dies In Violent Home Robbery After Posting $60K Photo On Facebook Philadelphia police are investigating whether or not a Facebook post played a part in a violent home robbery that left the home owner shot dead. Via CBS News : Police say 50-year-old Tony Harris was shot dead after three armed men stormed his house around 11 p.m. Monday. The suspects apparently stormed the Kingsessing neighborhood home with one goal in mind. “[They] entered through their front door all brandishing guns, demanding the money. ‘Where is the money,’” Police Captain James Clark told CBS Philly. His family believes that a Facebook post dated Oct. 5 is what made them targets, according to the station. In it, Harris reportedly jokes about misplacing $60,000. Police say Harris was surrounded in the living room, while his wife was allegedly held at gunpoint in the kitchen. Their children were reportedly all asleep upstairs. The victim’s wife told CBS Philly she overheard the suspects threatening to harm her if he didn’t stop moving. He was later shot. The alleged robbers likely got away with nothing, according to the station. Police told CBS Philly that they were aware of the post and are looking into it as a possible motive. Harris’ newphew, Anthony Fleming, says his uncle did not have $60,000 because his wife was really just holding a few $20 bills on top of paper. When flexing for Facebook goes wrong! According to Deadline, the top ballet performer is set to produce a drama series set in the world of dance for Fox. The newly engaged beauty will be teaming up with television writer Tracy Oliver. The series will follow a group of aspiring dancers as they compete for spots with a top ballet company. Oliver, who also has a performing arts background, became intrigued by Copeland’s rags to riches story after reading an article about her two years ago. She was determined to work with the dancer in some capacity, and eventually came up with the idea for a TV show… Oliver co-wrote, and executive produced Issa Rae’s “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl”. She was also recently hired as a writer for Starz’s “Survivor’s Remorse”. [ MadameNoire ] Chris Rock To Host 2016 Oscars Well, the rumors are true. Chris Rock took to Twitter Wednesday to confirm whispers that he is set to host the 2016 Oscars. This will be the actor and comedian’s second time hosting the awards show. “Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry,” Academy Awards producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin said in a statement, according to CNN. “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian — he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!” Rock also expressed excitement about returning to the Oscars stage. “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” Rock said. “It’s great to be back.” The actor’s first time hosting the show was back in 2005. The 88th Academy Awards is set to broadcast live on February 28 on ABC. The 19-year-old student was being recognized for being one of the top graduates of Steve Harvey’s Mentoring Camp but there was more surprises in store for the young man besides being on national television. Louisiana School Principal And Coach Don Racist Costumes Louisiana locals are angry after a racist photo featuring two educators at a costume party earlier this month. Via WTNH reports: Iota Middle School Principal Lee Ann Wall and her husband Jeptha Wall, who is a coach at Crowley High School, appear in the image. Their costumes are described as “People of Walmart.” Jeptha can be seen wearing a red bandana around his waist with a gun tucked into his belt and money coming out of his pocket. In front of Lee Ann is a basket full of black and white baby dolls and sign that read, “You wait on pay day, I be waiting for da first of da month!” The photo was sent to KLFY by a viewer who called it a “display of classism and racism.” But not everyone thinks it should be taken so seriously. Penny Fontenot lives in Iota and says sometimes a costume is just that: a costume. “If they’re teaching your children right from wrong in the schools, what does a costume have to do with it?” The news teams showed the pic to several other folks in Acadia Parish. They believe the costume choice crossed the line. “Wow, okay. So what is she trying to depict? Somebody who’s on welfare? If that is what she was trying to depict that’s even worse.” Alan Honersucker told KLFY’s Dalfred Jones. Nathan Kresge, who also live in Iota said, “To make fun of people that just can’t afford a better way of life, to make fun of them? That’s just ridiculous!” Ellan Baggett, the Executive Director of Operations with the Acadia Parish School Board, says it was a private party, not school related. Charles Perry’s New Album Takes Its Cues From Back In The Day Soul singer Charles Perry has one foot stuck firmly in the past – and that’s how he likes it. The Brooklyn musician borrowed from genres of yesteryear for his new album, “The Soul Superhero,” which pays homage to the old school with elements of funk, rock, R&B and pop. One highlight is “Panty Drop,” a doo-wop inflected, Little Richard-inspired ode to dropping the drawers that Perry said was inspired by his late grandfather, who also sang. “I’m still stuck in that time,” Perry told BOSSIP. “That’s what’s in my ear everyday. They get sick of me playing these records, but I can’t.” Perry was raised in a strict Baptist family and grew up singing in the church. He said he’d sneak and listen to his father’s record collection, taking in songs from artists like Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, James Brown and the Rev. James Moore. “That sound came from the greats,” Perry said. “That time, I call it the ‘Golden Years,’ when singing was singing.” Perry’s musical perspective and knack for holding a tune drew the attention of the late gospel singer Ronald Winans when Perry was just eight years old. Winans approached him after he’d performed with his choir at the McDonalds Gospel Fest. “He said, ‘that’s a gift from God,’” Perry recalled. “‘You can’t play with that.’ That really stood out to me. That was a turning point for me.” Winan’s accolade was the push Perry needed to devote his life to music, and the end result was the album. He said his biggest critic – his 13-year-old, Prince Josiah – has already given it the seal of approval. “He loves it,” Perry said. “He’s excited. He thinks it’s cool. Racist Arsonists Burned Down Five Black Churches In Ferguson, MO In 9 Days

Black Churches Burned In Ferguson Over the last week and a half, someone has been setting fire to Black churches all over Ferguson, Missouri , the site of Michael Brown’s murder by police and the civil unrest that ensued for months thereafter last year. The Fire captain has deemed the burnings definite arson, and the crime is being looked at as a potential hate crime. Via CBSnews : “It is arson. That’s why law enforcement is involved in this entire investigation,” said Captain Garon Mosby of the St. Louis Fire Department. Mosby would not rule out the possibility of a hate crime directed either at churches or at African-Americans. “My job is to love (them),” said Pastor David Triggs of New Life Missionary Baptist Church. “And I’ve forgiven this individual. We are going to tear down and rebuild.” There have been at least four previous fires at area churches but there are no details if any of them are connected, however, investigators say they have all started the same way: in the front two doors of the church. Since Oct. 8, fire has damaged five churches, all within a few miles of each other in north St. Louis city and county. In each case, the front doors were set on fire. Damage has ranged from a few hundred dollars at one church to the near destruction of another. The fires add to racial angst in an area still reeling from a police shooting and unrest in Ferguson last year. SMH! The racial issues in this area are clearly far from over.
