Cathey also played a part on The Corner, Simon’s predecessor to The Wire on HBO. A native of Alabama, Cathey’s big screen resume included roles in Fantastic Four and Se7en. In response to this sad news, House of Cards creator Beau Willimon said the following on Friday evening: Reg Cathey was one of a kind. Brimming with life force, generosity, humor, gravitas and a fountain of talent. Loved by everyone lucky enough know him and work with him. He will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace, Reg. Having been in the business for so long, Cathey was mourned on social media by a wide range of actors from both the TV and movie worlds. Jerry Van Dyke Dies; Emmy-Nominated Actor Was 86

Jerry Van Dyke, a veteran actor and the younger brother of iconic comedian Dick Van Dyke, died on Friday afternoon at his ranch in Arkansas. He was 86 years old. According to Jerry’s wife, per TMZ, the actor passed away with her by his side.  The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but the couple had been in a car accident two years ago and Van Dyke’s health had sadly gone downhill ever since. A native of Danville, Illinois, Van Dyke got his start on television by making appearances on The Dick Van Dyke Show, the beloved sitcom that starred his real-life older sibling. He also made appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Judy Garland Show early on in his career. Prior to dedicating his professional life to acting, Jerry pursued stand-up comedy as a young man and performed at military bases around the globe. Van Dyke has a very long and impressive resume, but he’s likely best known for his role as Assistant Coach Luther Horatio Van Dam on the TV sitcom Coach, which earned him four Emmy Award nominations. The series ran from 1989 to 1997. It was anchored by Craig T. Nelson. Coach centered on the fictional Minnesota State University Screaming Eagles and it often featured guest appearances by professional football figures such as Troy Aikman, Dick Butkus and Jerry Jones, as well as actors like Lucy Liu, Drew Carey and Mary Hart. Van Dyke’s Luther was an assistant coach who was known for his bumbling ways and occasional moments of pathos. This is a photo of him from the show: His final small screen appearance took place on ABC’s hit show The Middle in 2015. Well aware of his brother’s enormous fame, Jerry said the following to USA Today back in the 1990s: “I was always known as Dick Van Dyke’s brother and the guy that did My Mother the Car. Now people know me that never knew me before, that don’t even know Dick. That’s really a thrill.” He maintained this kind of sense of humor throughout his career. “If I had it all to do over again, I definitely would have turned things down,” he told The Associated Press in 1994, adding: “Almost everything I did!”  And then there was this, to The Toronto Star that same year: “I’m getting sick of Dick riding on my coattails. I just can’t prop up his career forever.” Jerry Van Dyke is survived by two kids and his wife. May he rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Jon Paul Steuer, Former Star Trek Actor, Dies at 33

Jon Paul Steuer, a former child actor who turned into a successful musician later in life, passed away on New Year’s Day from an unknown cause.  He was 33 years old. Fellow members of the band P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S confirmed this sad piece news via a Facebook post on Wednesday, January 3. It reads as follows: “It is with heavy hearts and saddened minds that we announce the passing of our dear friend and singer Jonny Jewels, AKA Jon Paul Steuer. “The addition of Jonny to our dysfunctional band family was one of the best choices that we have ever made.” “He brought a much needed sense of fun and lightheartedness to everything we did.” The band continued: “He was only with us for a little more than a year, but we managed to cram a lifetime of great experiences into his tenure as our singer.” “Dozens shows at home in Portland and across several states, an amazing European tour, and our best full-length release yet.” Concluded the farewell message: “We’ve lost our singer, but far, far more than that we’ve lost a friend. Rest in peace, Jonny…we love you.” A former child actor, Steuer rose to fame when he portrayed a young Klingon on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He was also know for playing the oldest son of Brett Butler’s lead character on the 1990s sitcom Grace Under Fire. (The photo below is taken from his time on Star Trek.) Steuer also appeared on an episode of the series The Wonder Years and the film Little Giants before landing his best known acting job on the aforementioned NBC show. He left Grace Under Fire at age 12 after three years, in 1996… and promptly retired from acting. In the years since, however, Steuer has occasionally been spotted at Star Trek conventions. The official Star Trek Online Twitter account shared a message in tribute to the late actor on Thursday: “Rest in Peace, Jon Paul Steuer, the first actor to play Alexander in TNG. You will be deeply missed.” He told The A.V. Club website in 2015, regarding his career: “I wanted to forge on with acting after quitting the show, and I went out on a few interviews. “But even then they’d turn into question-and-answer sessions with casting agents about Grace Under Fire.” “I was kind of blown away by how unprofessional people inside the industry were. “It really soured me. I didn’t want that kind of attention.” After leaving the acting world, Steuer performed in rock bands and, a few years ago, even launched Harvest At The Bindery in Portland. The restaurant announced on Facebook on Thursday it will shut down in wake of Steuer’s passing. “Due to an unexpected tragedy, Harvest will be permanently closing our doors,” the post reads. “We thank you for your support and understanding. Jon Paul Steuer R.I.P.” “There will be a memorial gathering for Jonny at Harvest on Sunday 1/7 beginning at 1:00.” View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam Continued the statement released by the establishment, for those interested in contributing to his family during a difficult time: “You can donate to help cover Funeral and Memorial costs here .”  Steuer, seen above when he was 18 years old, is survived by his parents. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Matt Damon Gets Dragged by Entire Internet for Sexual Misconduct Comments

Matt Damon is generally considered one of the nicest, least controversial actors in Hollywood. But the star has gone ahead and stuck his typically-genial foot directly into his very handsome mouth. On Wednesday’s episode of ABC News’ Popcorn With Peter Travers, the actor shared his take on the influx of sexual misconduct allegations that continue to hit the entertainment profession. And, in doing so, Damon opened himself up to criticism from… well… pretty much everyone. “I think we’re in this watershed moment,” he said early in the interview, adding: “I think it’s great. I think it’s wonderful that women are feeling empowered to tell their stories – and it’s totally necessary.” There you go. Perfect. Damon could have just stopped there and no one would be talking about him right now. But he didn’t stop there. With sexual misconduct allegations derailing the careers of such stars as Louis CK, Kevin Spacey, Matt Lauer, Mario Batali and MANY others, Damon made many attempts to parse various situations. Referring to a “spectrum of behavior,” he said: “There’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?” In this case, Damon was citing scandals that have enveloped politicians Al Franken (butt patting) and Roy Moore (alleged child molestation). “Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right?” Damon continued, saying he would have “preferred if they had an Ethics Committee investigation.” However, Damon argued: “We are so energized to kind of get retribution.” Most people would not say anyone is energized to get “retribution” right now. They would say women are energized to speak out against the many times they’ve been wronged; and this should only be applauded. In one of his most dissected and disappointing statements, Damon said: “We live in this culture of outrage and injury, and, you know, we’re going to have to correct enough to kind of go, ‘Wait a minute. None of us came here perfect.'” “You know what I mean?” Not really. One can not be perfect and also know how to treat a woman with respect at all times. Among those who have dragged Damon for his comments is Minnie Driver, who co-starred with the actor in Good Will Hunting. She linked to his controversial interview on Twitter and just wrote “God, God seriously?” Others, meanwhile, have said things like the tweets excerpted above. Damon, who was close to Harvey Weinstein after the producer helped get Good Will Hunting made, dug himself into an even deeper hole when citing individual examples. Admitting he doesn’t “know all the details” about Louis C.K., for example, Damon said the following: “I don’t do deep dives on this, but I did see his statement… “When he came out and said, ‘I did this; I did these things; these women are all telling the truth,’ I just remember thinking, ‘Well, that’s the sign of somebody who…well, we can work with that.'” Ummm…. there are two problems with this argument: CK was accused of pulling out his penis and masturbating in front of many women. Damon could have taken a few easy second to research this online. CK only released his statement AFTER reports came out that basically confirmed these actions. Damon is concerns that “the clearer signal to men and to younger people is [to] deny it, because if you take responsibility for what you did, your life’s going to get ruined. “I mean, look, as I said – all of that behavior needs to be confronted, but there is a continuum.” “And on this end of the continuum where you have rape and child molestation or whatever, you know, that’s prison. Right? That’s what needs to happen. OK?” SIGH . Look, yes, there’s a difference between outright rape and a few misguided comments. No one denies this. But one could argue that a culture that looks past the latter on a continual basis contributes to more of the former because there because a general acceptance of women as nothing but sex objects. Moreover, this just isn’t the time, Matt. There have been too many instances of too much heinous behavior around Hollywood. This isn’t the time to get up on a pedestal and try to teach America about grey areas. But Damon focused on social media in his interview and lamented today’s culture of presumed guilt, saying: “The moment a claim is made… I would be scorched earth.” View Slideshow: Hollywood Sex Scandal: Who’s Been Caught? Accused? Fired? “I’d go, ‘I don’t care if it costs $10 million to fight this in court with you for 10 years; you are not taking my name from me. You are not taking my name and my reputation from me. I’ve worked too hard for it. “And I earned it. You can’t just blow me up like that.'” “Once a claim is made, there will no longer be settlements. That’s my prediction, just based on what I’ve seen.” “Isn’t that a good thing?” Travers countered, noting many female had been unable to share their stories because of nondisclosure agreements. “One hundred percent,” Damon responded, adding that “every woman who’s coming forward with one of these stories needs to be listened to and heard.” Boom. Yes. Done. That’s all you had to say in the first place, Matt Damon. View Slideshow: #MeToo: Stars Share Stories of Sexual Harassment, Assault

Ben Affleck Checks Into Rehab Again Following Latest Relapse

It’s been quite a tumultuous year for Ben Affleck. 2017 began with news that Affleck had completed rehab  and attained sobriety again after relapsing following more than a decade of sobriety. Sadly, it seems Ben’s battle with the bottle didn’t end there. Radar Online is reporting that Affleck recently checked back into rehab , marking his third stint this year. Insiders say the Oscar-winner was encouraged to seek treatment by his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and his brother, Casey Affleck. “Ben relapsed,” a source tells the site. “Jen and Casey are willing to try anything, and they don’t care if the methods are controversial.” The “controversial methods” remark refers to Ben’s choice of treatment facility. Affleck reportedly checked into Passages Malibu, which eschews the traditional 12-step method in favor of an “unorthodox holistic” approach to addiction. Ben had previously been enrolled in an out-patient program, but according to a source close the actor, he recently decided that he needs a “constant support network” in order to remain sober. Passages encourages patients to remain in treatment for a minimum of 45 days, and since Ben was first spotted at the facility on December 10, it seems he’ll remain at the facility through the holidays. The source was unable to say for certain if Affleck will be able to see his three kids on Christmas, but notes that he is free to come and go from treatment as he sees fit: “Ben isn’t a prisoner and is fully committed to seeing his children and fulfilling his work commitments outside the center,” the insider tells Radar. Rumors that Ben was once again struggling with alcoholism began over the summer when he was spotted drinking with girlfriend Lindsay Shookus , once while traveling in New England, and again during a trip to her hometown of Buffalo, NY. Shortly thereafter, Ben began his outpatient program, but it seems he felt he needed a more comprehensive approach to the problem. Those who know him best say Affleck has been despondent over newly-surfaced reports about his past behavior. Recent accusations of Affleck groping female colleagues and generally behaving inappropriately prior to his marriage have reportedly taken a considerable emotional toll on the 45-year-old. Here’s hoping Ben is able to finally find a method of treatment that works for him. View Slideshow: 25 Celebrities Who Have Been to Rehab

Brad Pitt to Angelina Jolie: Here’s $100 Million. Now… GO AWAY!

Brad Pitt really wants his marriage with Angelina Jolie to be over. And the actor is willing to put his money where his mouth is. Like, A LOT of money where his (very handsome) mouth is. According to Life & Style, Pitt is anxious to put his failed marriage behind him, but Jolie is dragging her feet on signing the final papers. In response, Pitt has advised his attorney to sweeten the settlement pot. By a significant amount. “In hopes of getting Angie to sign off on the divorce, Brad started throwing huge financial settlement offers at her lawyer,” a source tells the aforementioned tabloid. Thus far, however, Pitt has been unsuccessful… despite trying really hard. “Angie has rejected every single offer, including the most recent one, for $100 million,” this same source says. Wait, WHAT?!? Pitt offered Jolie $100 million to complete the ex-couple’s divorce? And she didn’t take it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? We know Jolie isn’t exactly in need of money or anything, but there’s no saving this relationship. Why not just take the giant sum of money and run? In a new interview, Jolie does not address this rumor. But the 42-year old Oscar winner admits the stars she made their second project together (2015’s By The Sea) as a means to “communicate” with each other. Even back then, it was evident things were just a little bit off between the husband and wife. “We had met working together and we worked together well,” Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter‘s podcast, Awards Chatter, explaining this week: “I wanted us to do some serious work together, I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate. “In some ways it was, and in some ways we learned some things. “But there was a heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it wasn’t because of the film.” That’s about as open as Jolie has been about the former romance since she filed for divorce from Pitt in September of last year. She cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce filing, asking for primary custody of the pair’s six kids: Maddox, 16, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11 and 9-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. But Pitt wants joint custody and took exception early on to Jolie (or “sources,” we should say) labeling him as some kind of deadbeat dad who drank a lot. There was one specific incident of Pitt allegedly getting into it, while wasted, on board a private airplane with Maddox . The FBI even investigated the altercation, but did not come away with any evidence that any sort of child abuse had taken place. “Brad felt he was depicted as an alcohol-swilling, pot-smoking, irresponsible and abusive husband and father — and that it was largely Angelina’s doing,” Life & Style writes. As a result, Pitt has no interest in taking Jolie back, even if she were to come crawling. Writes the magazine: “Brad feels too much damage has been done and she’s tormented him for too long to consider taking her back. He doesn’t trust Angelina anymore.” View Slideshow: 13 Reasons to Be Glad You Never Slept With Brad Pitt We can’t blame him. But we do have one final question related to this split: When will Pitt get back together with Jennifer Aniston ?!?
