Nicolas Cage Accused of Drunkenly Beating Ex Girlfriend

Nicolas Cage’s career has survived a number of bizarre rumors and scandals, but the latest allegations against the famously eccentric actor could mean that his acting days are over. According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Cage’s ex-girlfriend, Vickie Park, accused Cage of assaulting her while “severely intoxicated” at the SLASH Film Festival in Vienna last month. According to Park’s filing, Cage “abused” her on September 20. She attributed the actor’s behavior to a combination of alcohol abuse and mental illness. “I am already aware of his alcohol addiction, depression and mental illness as his mother is also currently still facilitated in mental ward,” Park wrote. Park says that in addition to that incident, she has been the victim of a sustained and targeted harassment campaign carried out by Cage’s ex-wife, Alice Kim. Park says she feels unsafe in her own home, adding, “I am afraid for my life because of the stalking and harassment of his jealous ex-wife Alice Cage.” According to Park, the harassment began immediately after she started dating Cage in June of 2017. Park claims Kim has gone to great lengths to undermine her relationship with Cage and to damage her reputation. “[Kim] stalks my Instagram page which I now had to make private because I am afraid of her/ she sends Nic messages about me — spreading lies and rumors about me all over Los Angeles and Las Vegas as well,” Park claims. In her increasingly bizarre filing, Park goes on to claim that she became unwillingly caught up in a bitter divorce battle when she started dating Cage: “I am afraid and distressed from their toxic relationship being projected onto me — physically and mentally,” she says. “Currently they are in a divorce battle where she is requesting more than $30 to 40,000 dollars a month solely for herself without signing a contract without documenting how much of the money is going to their son, Kal.” Unfortunately for Park, the judge in her case found insufficient evidence to grant her a restraining order. According to the judge’s ruling, the facts of the case, as presented by Park, “do not sufficiently show acts of violence, threats of violence, or a course of conduct that seriously alarmed, annoyed, or harassed [Vickie Park] and caused substantial emotional distress.” For their part, Cage and Kim issued the following joint statement through their lawyers: “Nicolas and Alice Cage categorically deny the absurd allegations listed in the filing of a temporary restraining order against Alice Cage, which was denied by the court.” We’ll bring you further updates on this situation as more information becomes available. Denzel Washington Leads Efforts To Restore August Wilson’s Pittsburgh Home

A fter bringing his theatrical works to the silver screen and on Broadway, Denzel Washington is honoring legendary playwright August Wilson in a different way. According to CBS Pittsburgh , the actor has been working to raise money to restore Wilson’s Pittsburgh home. Actor Denzel Washington helps raise millions for transformation of August Wilson House — https://t.co/rx0T55aOhQ — KDKA (@KDKA) September 27, 2018 The home—which sits at 1727 Bedford Avenue—will become the August Wilson House; a space that will house exhibits, classes for aspiring writers, and host plays, the news outlet writes. So far several celebrities have stepped up to help bring the vision for the August Wilson House to fruition. Amongst those who have donated to the project—that is being spearheaded by Washington—includes Tyler Perry , Oprah Winfrey , Shonda Rhimes , and Spike Lee . There was a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday. “I love August. He touches my soul, our souls. This is just like coming home to me. I feel so comfortable here,” Washington told the news outlet. “It starts with August and the wonderful people here and the commitment that we see today to this community, and I’m glad to be a part of that.” Wilson’s brother Richard Kittel says August would have been honored and humbled that his former house would be turned into a space to inspire playwrights, actors, and artists for generations to come. In 2015, Washington announced that he had landed a deal with HBO to produce nine of August Wilson’s plays for the cable network. “His stories are specifically African American stories, but the themes are universal,” Washington told the Hollywood Reporter . “He was just a bright, brilliant shining light who was here and then he was gone, but his work will live forever to be interpreted by actors and directors for as long as we’re here.” According to the Post-Gazette , the HBO project is still in the works and is slated to be released by 2020. Bill Cosby Doesn’t Deserve Your Sadness

See the rest here:

Source: MARK MAKELA / Getty T ake a minute to absorb that truth for a minute: Bill Cosby doesn’t deserve your sadness. It’s a bit jarring, admittedly, to see that Bill Cosby is actually going to spend time behind bars. There are a few reasons for the surrealism of it all. First, the obvious: Bill Cosby was one of America’s most beloved figures for decades. We grew up with him and seeing him go to jail is something we never thought we’d see when we were kids. Second, there’s the fact that these allegations of sexual assault have followed Cosby for so long that it seemed like he’d never actually go to jail. It’s that second point that you need to remember. Because no matter your affinity for Cosby and his cultural contributions over the decades, he is still a man who has been accused of dozens of instances of sexual assault and, as of today, is a convicted sex offender headed to prison. So, as disorienting as it is to see Cosby in handcuffs, just remember that his confirmed and alleged victims say they have experienced worse. Save your compassion for those women. From Bill Cosby to Harvey Weinstein. https://t.co/KIfMdREA8V — NewsOne (@newsone) September 24, 2018 Don’t get me wrong: this whole situation is a tragedy. It’s a tragedy for sexual assault survivors who had to wear their pain in secret, sure that no matter what they said, the man who assaulted them would never face any punishment. It’s a tragedy for the women whose lives and careers were ruined because of the damage — physical, emotional, professional and otherwise — Cosby caused them. It’s a tragedy for a society that allows a culture in which someone like Cosby is able to thrive while having committed the crimes he’s been convicted of today. Yes, this is a tragedy. But not for Cosby. There’s another reason not to feel any sadness for Cosby: He wouldn’t feel any for you if you were on the wrong end of handcuffs like he was today, no matter the reason you were in cuffs in the first place. Bill Cosby has spent most of the 21st century chastising the most vulnerable Black Americans among us. His infamous 2004 “ Pound Cake speech ” for the NAACP  — full of false information and fake news about things like unemployment, dropout rates, incarceration rates and single parenthood — was the rallying cry for respectability politics. Cosby loved picking on poor Black people for the way they made him look in front of white people. His chiding of Black Americans, demanding that they pull their pants up, became inextricably linked to his legacy. And now, the same man who wagged his finger at incarcerated people will now spend his next few years surrounded by them. Meet the Black prosecutor who made sure time was up on #BillCosby : https://t.co/pgaIHd4ES7 pic.twitter.com/GifaPWOR9k — NewsOne (@newsone) April 30, 2018 It’s important to remember that Cosby never sagged his pants. He never said the “N” word. He came from a two-parent household. He’s well-educated. And he’s a jailed sexual assaulter. I’d like to think that we can learn lessons from all of this. That this is the final nail in the coffin for respectability politics. That those cell doors closing in front of Cosby also signal the closure of ideas that involve Black people needing to dress a certain way to avoid jail or that “Black on Black” crime is a reflection of anything more than proximity. That the era of “pull your pants up” pseudo-activism is replaced by a culture of compassion where we try to empathize for those in jail or unfortunate life situations because we understand the larger factors that put those people in those positions. The ideas that Cosby have championed should go away with him. I also hope that we learn that this wasn’t a victory for victims of sexual assault; that needing dozens of accusations of sexual assault and two trials before sending a man in his 80s to jail decades after he’s allegedly committed the acts isn’t a blueprint for true justice. Victory isn’t eventual jail for sexual assault. Victory is a society that doesn’t allow people to feel like they can commit acts of sexual violence without recourse in the first place. Victory isn’t jail. Victory is sexual assault not happening in the first place. So pardon me if I don’t feel any sadness for Bill Cosby. Excuse me if I don’t have any remorse for the perpetrator of heinous crimes. Bill Cosby doesn’t deserve your tears. He never will.
