American Idol: The King and The Queen [Recaps]

On last night’s gregarious gay Elvis-themed extravaganza, we American idol worshipers were treated to the mentoring stylings of what is perhaps the show’s most ludicrous contestant. Adam Lambert , what’s your function? More

Adam Lambert to American Idol Producer: No Struggles Here!

Awhile back, we got into a tiff with Adam Lambert fans because we told them to ” chill out .” We argued that their over-the-top support of this singer, their rush to defend him at all times, was condescending and sometimes unnecessary. Adam is a big boy, we reasoned, he can take care of himself when the time calls for it. Very recent case in point: after American Idol producer Ken Warwick said he hopes Lambert’s appearance on the show this week helps the singer’s “struggling” career, Adam replied on his own. While acknowledging how “sweet” this sentiment is, Adam told Entertainment Weekly : “I don’t feel like I’m struggling at all. I think things are right where they need to be. My single ‘What Do You Want From Me,’ is just breaking into the Top 10 right now.” It’s true. The song, which Adam will perform live tonight on Idol , is currently at number-13 on Billboard’s Pop chart, and number-23 on the Billboard Hot 100. What did Adam think of his experience as a mentor? “I’m really glad that they had me on the show,” he said. “I really enjoyed helping the other contestants… It was a trip being out there. My mom was sitting next to me tonight, and she was like, ‘This is what it used to be like for us! We used to sit here and we got so nervous and we’d be chewing our gum really hard and we’d be going Oh god, I hope he does a good job!‘” Below, watch a clip of Lambert giving advice to Lee DeWyze… who

American Idol Goes for Brooke

Brooke White is slated to perform (along with guest-mentor Adam Lambert) on Wednesday’s American Idol results show in a duet with Miley Cyrus ex Justin Gaston. The season seven fifth-place finisher is part of the web series If I Can Dream with Gaston and recent Idol castoff Alex Lambert, and she’ll inevitably chirp something along the lines of her gentle “You’re So Vain”/”Let it Be” triumphs. My response? I could skip this second-rate Didi Benami. Sorry, but where’s the urgency? The hurt? The fiiii-yahhhhhh-herrrrrrr ? If you ask me, we need a results-night comeback from a true Idol gem. I’m talking about the best contestant in the show’s history — and resident funny valentine — Melinda Doolittle. [ EW ]

Confirmed: Adam Lambert as American Idol Mentor

In late February, it was reported that Adam Lambert would perform on American Idol . Now, we can confirm that the former runner-up won’t just sing “Whattaya Want From Me” on the April 14 results-show telecast – he’ll serve as a mentor to the finalists on the night before! No word yet on what theme the contestants will tackle during the special visit, but this much is certain: if anyone can spice up this lackluster group of singers, it’s Adam Lambert. Lambert will be the first former Idol to act as a mentor less than a year after he left the show. Many will believe he’s too inexperienced for the gig… but Miley Cyrus took on the same role a couple weeks ago and she’s younger than every current contestant except Katie Stevens and Aaron Kelly. Do you think he should be a mentor? While you ponder that question, click on the photos below, all of which are courtesy of Adam’s recent trip to London: [Photos: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com]

Presenting Adam Lambert… in a Kilt!

Just a photo of Adam Lambert during the Scotland leg of his international tour would likely be enough to satiate curious fans. But combine the two elements mentioned below and listen closely… you’ll likely hear screams across the globe from Lambert lovers: First, the singer told the UK’s The Daily Record that he and Lady Gaga recently “had a couple of whiskies” together. How did it go? “[We] traded stories about life and music in the studio and, in some ways, we are cut from a similar cloth. She did theater for a while too and she got into the club kid scene in New York and I did in LA. We had a similar experience and it’s a compliment to be dubbed the male version of her.” As for the amazing photo above? That’s a shot of Adam in his “glamkilt,” as he Tweeted. He said that wearing the outfit it “like having a cactus – a little pet cactus.” Earlier on the tour, Lambert shared an evening with Boy George . Yes, Adam Lambert Said He Disliked Susan Boyle’s Album

We love Adam Lambert and we admire the enthusiasm and loyalty of his fans. But we got into a bit of a stand-off with them last month when THG ran a story that said Lambert “ripped” Susan Boyle, referring to her her album as “terrible” and her rendition of “Wild Horses” as laughable. Supporters of this singer jumped down our throat for misquoting the superstar, claiming we were going after Google hits (via our harsh word choice) instead of the truth. This critique prompted us to pen an editorial in which we told Adam fans to ” chill out .” Since then, we’ve made up… right, Lambert lovers? But we still feel the need to defend our professional integrity and state: we did not misquote Adam. In a new interview with The Herald Sun , he was asked about his comment and said: “It came across a bit harsher than how it actually went down. But I’m not a fan of the record, it wasn’t a lie.” Let’s all move on now. Adam has. He talked about the perception of American Idol in the same interview: “[People think] you come off the show and all of a sudden you are put in this machine and puppeted into this product. That’s not my experience at all. “I’m a pretty outspoken, upfront, forward type of person, and I have opinions about what I want to be as an artist. I told them I want to be glam, be pop, be rock, I want to be everything, blend it all together and have a great time doing it. Be theatrical and be out there.” That’s certainly who Lambert is – and we adore him for remaining true to himself.
