Crystal Bowersox’s Musical Mentors Saw ‘Idol’ Hopeful’s Promise Early

Toledo, Ohio, musicians Ron Rasberry and Bob May share memories of the ‘American Idol’ favorite. By Gil Kaufman Photo: Ray Mickshaw / FOX TOLEDO, Ohio — Ron Rasberry has been playing music his whole life and has seen plenty of good players come and go. But when the amiable, redheaded guitar strummer with the glint in his eye spotted a 13-year-old Crystal Bowersox more than 10 years ago, he knew he was seeing a rare talent. “I was hosting an open mic night, and she was there already … sitting at the table with her ma, and I asked the bartender, the owner, ‘Who’s that?’ ” recalled Rasberry last week of the season-nine “American Idol” front-runner. He learned soon enough who she was when Bowersox got up and sang Jewel’s “You Were Meant for Me.” “Of course, she got up there and played and then sang and … she was amazing,” he said. “She was a showstopper then.” Bowersox followed up that performance with an original, one of several she’d already written at that tender age. Thus began a musical friendship that endures until this day. Rasberry — who has been playing local bars for most of his adult life — has seen his young prot

Jesse James Nazi Photo : Jesse James Scandal Leakage

Jesse James Nazi Photo : Jesse James Scandal Leakage – This is the latest news about Jesse James and its scandal and nazi photo. Just a few hours after Jesse James apologized to his wife Sandra Bullock amid rumors of infidelity, new and disturbing details about his alleged mistress have emerged. First his hot mistress and now Jesse James in Nazi photo means only one thing; should the claims of TMZ be true Jesse is certainly in more trouble. According to the latest updates on McGee and Jesse James the betrayer, 40-year-old wears a Nazi hat, offers a Heil Hitler pose and the stuff follows soon.’ The news of the Nazi Photo and salute picture broke after pictures surfaced of Michelle Bombshell McGee, James’ alleged mistress, surfaced.  In the picture, a heavily tattooed McGee was seen sporting a bikini, a Nazi arm band, hat and doing a salute.  She also has “W” and “P” tattooed on her legs, which is rumored to mean “White power” although she denies those allegations. The Nazi photos compound the bad press surrounding the West Coast Choppers owner and host of Discovery Channel’s Monster Garage.  In addition to having to deal with his alleged indiscretions, he’s also going to have to deal with his adult entertainer ex girlfriend through a bitter custody battle. “The vast majority of the allegations reported are untrue and unfounded,” said James. “Beyond that, I will not dignify these private matters with any further public comment,” James, 40, said in the mea culpa released to People magazine. “There is only one person to blame for this whole situation, and that is me. It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way,” he said. Jesse James Nazi Photo : Jesse James Scandal Leakage is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

DMX Arrested For Violating Probation

Sheriff said rapper repeatedly violated probation by using illegal drugs. By Gil Kaufman DMX (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Troubled rapper DMX was arrested on Tuesday in Arizona for five counts of violating his probation on drug charges. According to Phoenix ABC affiliate KNXV , X (born Earl Simmons), was picked up by the Adult Probation Office after admitting to using illegal drugs over the past nine months. “He admitted to using cocaine, so he’s back in our jail,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “I think it’s about time to give him hard time.” The get-tough sheriff said if the rapper is serious about kicking his drug habit, the Arizona jail system — where X has already logged time on animal cruelty and drug possession charges — could help him get clean. “We do have a great drug prevention program in the jail, so if he stays in our jail system I will consider (letting) him go through our program,” Arpaio said. In June, DMX, 39, was sentenced to more than a year of probation after pleading guilty in May to attempted aggravated assault for throwing a food tray at a jail officer, an incident that occurred while X was in jail serving a 90-day sentence for felony theft, drug possession and animal cruelty. According to a Reuters report, the rapper told his probation officer that he’d been regularly using illegal drugs over the past nine months and had not complied with the terms of his treatment plan. X was given 18 months of supervised probation and ordered to pay fines upon his release in May. Arpaio said after arresting DMX five times, he’s eager to see the rapper do some serious time in an Arizona jail. A spokesperson for DMX could not be reached for comment at press time. While on probation, X played one chaotic live show in Colorado that ended in a reported near riot, booked and then backed out of an MMA fight in December (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1625835/20091109/dmx.jhtml) and was reported to be working on new music that Swizz Beatz said could fuel his long-rumored comeback . T-Pain Says ‘Freaknik: The Musical’ Has ‘No Boundaries’

Pain co-wrote the Adult Swim animated special, which features Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross and Cee-Lo. By Shaheem Reid T-Pain Photo: MTV News T-Pain says his next album, Revolver, will be coming out later this year, but his first major project of 2010 is a TV show. Pain is starring in and producing a one-hour animated special for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim this weekend called “Freaknik: The Musical.” Freaknik was an annual party in Atlanta that started in the 1980s but blew up in the mid-’90s. During spring break, students from the area’s historically black colleges and the hip-hop community used to gather for a weekend of partying, a picnic and, in many cases, debauchery. The event took over the city and was protested heavily, and the final one was in 1999. “I actually never been, but I’ve seen every piece of footage that can come from the Florida side of Freaknik,” said T-Pain, who hails from Tallahassee, Florida. “It was a lot of night vision, a whole lot of night vision. Every video I’ve ever seen [from Freaknik] was in night vision. Even in the daytime, it was night vision.” Pain’s musical, which he also co-wrote, follows a group trying to make it to the event. “It’s about the trials and tribulations of a group that’s trying to get to Freaknik,” Pain explained. “Freaknik, the party ghost — which is [who I play] — is holding a battle of the trillest. It’s a rap battle. If you win the rap battle, the first prize is a lifetime supply of money, ho’s and clothes. It’s three dudes in the rap group and their weed man trying to make it to Freaknik. It’s their trials and tribulations coming from Sweet Tea, Florida, all the way to Georgia. I play the Spirit of Freaknik. Everywhere I go, it’s on and poppin’.” Pain said the story wasn’t his brainchild, but he jumped onboard when presented with the idea. “I didn’t write the whole thing,” he said. “They came to me with the premise. I started scratching stuff off and getting new stuff. You can say I wrote it, but I didn’t. It was my homeboy Carl [Jones], the same guy that does ‘The Boondocks.’ We had to get a lot of his help, direction and stuff like that. We all wrote it together. It was a good team of people that has no boundaries. We took it so far that the watered-down version is awesome.” Andy Samberg, Snoop Dogg, Cee-Lo and Rick Ross are among the stars doing voice-overs. “I didn’t want nobody to play themselves,” Pain said. “Ross is Big Uzi, one of the dudes in the group. Cee-Lo is Light Skinned, which is a white dude who is a black supremacist.” “Freaknik: The Musical” airs Sunday at 11:30 p.m. on Adult Swim. Sarah Palin Spokeswoman Quits; World Rejoices

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s senior adviser and spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, resigned today . Who will craft Sarah’s brilliant press releases now?! Stapleton, a Palin confidante since 2006, said she is stepping down from her $96,000/year gig to spend more time with her 2-year-old daughter, Isabella. Since the end of the 2008 presidential campaign, Stapleton has been one of only a few aides maintained and trusted by Palin – to everyone’s detriment. In recent years, Stapleton was a key strategic adviser and the pipeline for anyone seeking Palin’s attention, including Republican officials and reporters. A total loose cannon at best, and shameless attack dog at worst, Stapleton helped transform Palin into a major political player. A very polarizing one. Sarah Palin will be better off without her chief crony . Meg Stapleton has also blessed those of us in the celebrity gossip world with near constant absurd fodder. Some of her most prominent career highlights: Claiming any criticism of Sarah Palin is sexist Bashing the living hell out of David Letterman Trading weekly public barbs with Levi Johnston Reaching out to embattled nut job Carrie Prejean Trying to cash in on Bristol Palin and her baby Sending John McCain’s entire staff to the cardiologist One senior McCain advisor quoted by the Huffington Post called her both “incompetent and a bad person,” and one who “sacrificed integrity for ambition.” A woman whose media instincts were amateurish even on her best day, Stapleton will be missed by those of us who revere her ability to generate gossip. Someone with serious political ambitions should never, ever hire her though.

50 Cent Sex Tape Drama: Woman Accuses Rapper of Ganking, Splicing Himself Into X-Rated Video

If you thought the Rozlyn Papa sex tape scandal was the most unexpected story in the adult genre today, wait ’til you read this N.Y. Daily News item on 50 Cent. Lastonia Leviston claims the rapper posted her personal sex tape online, dubbed in his own commentary and spliced himself into the action in various costumes. She filed papers in Manhattan Supreme Court saying that she and Maurice Murray “videotaped themselves engaging in sexually explicit activities” in June 2008. Leviston claims she requested Murray destroy the tape and that he agreed, but he allegedly “transferred or sold” it to 50 Cent instead for reasons unknown. “Ooh, she grindin’, is she a grinder?” 50 says while a lingerie-clad Lastonia Leviston romps around on a leather couch with a man whose face is blurred out. 50 Cent – who takes on the “Pimpin’ Curly” persona in the video (above) – is accused of having posted the raunchy, 13-minute sex tape on several websites. The reason? Beef with rival rapper Rick Ross, obviously. He refers to the girl in the X-rated video as a “nasty b—-” and describes her as Ross’ baby mama. “Ricky don’t know how to do that!” Fiddy taunts after a man in red boxer shorts (presumably Murray) bends over Leviston and begins “smackin’ dat a$$.” Ross and 50 have a long-running dispute in which they’ve dissed each other in videos and songs. In the sex tape, he mocks the size of Ross’s manhood. “Yeah man, nice little slut!” the rapper says, quite originally. Leviston, who wears little more than heels and lingerie during the sex tape, is seeking damages for emotional distress and unauthorized use of her image. Hey, all’s well in hip-hop beefs. As long as he left Shaniqua Tompkins out of this. We don’t need any more restraining orders or houses burned down.

T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross ‘Re-Create’ Atlanta Block Party In ‘Freaknik’

Cartoon premieres March 7 at 11:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. By Hillary Crosley “Freaknik: The Musical” Photo: Adult Swim T-Pain has a cartoon on the way called “Freaknik: The Musical,” but it’s probably not for kids. The show, airing March 7 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, will be an hour-long extravaganza detailing a group’s quest to “successfully resurrect the spirit of Freaknik … the biggest spring-break party known to man.” On Wednesday morning (February 24), T-Pain tweeted a trailer including castmembers like Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg discussing the show and remembering their experiences at the original Freaknik. “Back in the ’90s, Freaknik was Atlanta’s version of the ultimate block party. It was Mardi Gras meets spring break, at your crazy cousin’s bachelor party, and anything could happen,” T-Pain said in a statement last month. “A decade later, I’m bringing it back for people like me, who didn’t get to experience it the first time around. We’ve re-created Freaknik’s vibe and energy with amazing animation, new music and an all-star cast of characters.” The Adult Swim cartoon has long been in the works, and T-Pain has recruited everyone from comedians Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Charlie Murphy to musicians Cee-Lo, Big Boi and George Clinton to lend their voices to the show. Still, with all the good-time nostalgia flying around, some participants like Rick Ross had to be coaxed into joining the “Freaknik” cast. “If it was for anybody else, I wouldn’t even be part of a cartoon,” Ross said. “But because of what Pain told me, he told me we’re doing it uncut, we’re doing it. It turned out to be fun, man, so it’s me, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, the list goes on.” Others were more than happy to relive the glory. “I was at the first Freaknik back when it first started in, like, the early ’90s, when it was poppin’. … I was a young rapper, selling CDs and tapes and posters,” Snoop Dogg recalled with a smile. Pain isn’t the first hip-hop star to team up with Cartoon Network. In 2006, Outkast’s Andre 3000 produced “Class of 3000,” an animated series set in Atlanta’s Westley School of Performing Arts. And Danger Mouse and MF Doom released an album and EP — 2005’s The Mouse and the Mask and ’06’s Occult Hymn — that featured beats taken from Adult Swim programming (and more than a few cameos by Adult Swim stars). “Freaknik: The Musical” premieres March 7 at 11:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network.
