‘If it doesn’t happen, we’ll just look to do ‘Anchorman 3,’ ‘ Rudd jokes to MTV News. With the stars taking salary cuts and Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay setting up a schedule to write the script, the production looked to shoot early in 2011 — until Paramount declined to OK the prospective budget . “So bummed,” McKay tweeted days after our story ran. “Paramount basically passed on ‘Anchorman 2.’ Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.” Yet fans of the 2004 comedy can’t quite give up the idea that we’ll never be treated to any further adventures of Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy and his news team of Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) and Champ Kind (David Koechner). So is there any chance “Anchorman 2” could somehow be revived? That’s a question only the studio can answer at this point. “It’s up to Paramount,” Ferrell said at the MTV Movie Awards . “They got to get their heads out of their you-know-whats and make that a reality. So the ball’s in their court.” For now, the “Anchorman” stars remain mystified about why Paramount hasn’t given them the green light. “The salaries are down,” Rudd told us. “I was actually talking to Adam McKay about this last night, and we don’t know. For some reason, they don’t want to make it, I guess.
