Harry Dean Stanton Dies; Veteran Actor Was 91

Harry Dean Stanton, a veteran star of the big screen and small screen, died on Friday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. He was 91 years old. The actor broke out in the film Paris, Texas and was also famous for roles in Twin Peaks, Big Love, Pretty in Pink and Repo Man. Altogether, the legendary thespian’s career spanned six decades and his final performance will air later this month when the movie Lucky hits theaters. It centers on an atheist who comes to terms with his own mortality. “We lost a legend today with the passing of Harry Dean Stanton,” reads the statement, posted on the film’s official Twitter page. It adds: “Everyone involved with Lucky is deeply saddened by this tremendous loss. “We had always hoped to celebrate this film and Harry’s beautiful performance with Harry himself. “Our hearts go out to all who knew him, all who loved him, and his fans the world over. He will be missed, but his work will live on as long as people watch his films.” On HBO’s Big Love, Stanton portrayed Roman Grant, while he recently appeared as Carl Rodd in the Twin Peaks revival on Showtime. Stanton was already 58 years old when he nabbed his first leading role in the aforementioned Paris, Texas. Written by Sam Shepard, the movie won the Palme d’Ora at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984, catapulting Stanton to the big time in the process. “Stanton has long inhabited the darker corners of American noir, with his lean face and hungry eyes, and here he creates a sad poetry,” wrote famed critic Roger Ebert in response to the performance. In 1986, Stanton found mainstream success when he played Molly Ringwald’s unemployed father in Pretty in Pink. Years later, he portrayed a fiery Paul/Saul in Martin Scorsese’s controversial movie The Last Temptation of Christ, although the actor was among those in the film criticized by many as being miscast. The late star was also good friends (and former roommates) with Jack Nicholson; the two appeared opposite each other in Ride in the Whirlwind. Along with acting, Stanton sang and played rhythm guitar and harmonica in a Tex-Mex band that did weekly gigs at The Mint in Los Angeles. Said Twin Peaks creator David Lynch upon learning of Stanton’s death: “The great Harry Dean Stanton has left us. “There went a great one. There’s nobody like Harry Dean. Everyone loved him. And with good reason. He was a great actor (actually beyond great) — and a great human being — so great to be around him!!! You are really going to be missed Harry Dean!!! “Loads of love to you wherever you are now!!!” Stanton was in the Navy in World War II and fought in the Battle of Okinawa. His agent says that Stanton “is survived by family and friends who loved him. May he rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Taylor Swift Throws ALL the Shade in New Music Video

Taylor Swift does not do subtlety. Three days after releasing her much-lampooned new single , “Look What You Made Me Do,” the global superstar unveiled her music video for the track early on at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. And the footage took aim at the paparazzi, at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West… and even at herself. The video opened with a gravestone that reads “Here Lies Taylor Swift’s Reputation.” The last word there, of course, is the name of Swift’s upcoming studio album , which drops on November 10. It’s also a reference to the way Swift has seen her name dragged through the mud for just over a year now, ever since Kim and Kanye exposed her as somewhat of a phony last summer. (In July of 2016, Kardashian played a phone call to the world in which Swift gave her husband permission to include a negative lyric about Taylor in his song “Famous,” despite Swift having previously claimed foul when the track went viral.) Swift then dances around a cemetery while dressed like a zombie, prior to miming the shooting of a gun in a bathtub, draped in diamond. From there, we see Taylor sitting on a throne, drinking tea (clearly trolling the trolls) and ignoring the snakes slithering all around her. (Reminder: Kardashian referred to Swift as a snake after igniting their aforementioned feud last year.) Cut to Swift in a car accident, the paparazzi snapping photos all around here as she sort of writhes in pain… yet stares at a Grammy Award while doing so. (Translation: Oh yeah? You think my career is a trainwreck and you want to throw a Taylor Swift is over party ? I’ll just be over here, admiring my Grammys… ) Later on, Swift swings on a swing in a giant birdcage… joins some kind of motorcycle gang… swings a baseball bat in anger (undoubtedly creating more Beyhive backlash )… dons a dominatrix outfit… and dances around with guys in I Heart TS shirts. (During July Fourth weekend in 2016, Swift and then-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston received tons of crap when the latter was seen wearing a shirt with this same message on it.) But the end of the video is when Swift truly comes clean. It’s where she lets EVERYthing out. Various versions of the singer stand in front of a private jet with the word “REPUTATION” on it and engage in a conversation. “Stop acting like you are all nice, you are so fake,” one Taylor says to another Taylor, referencing the biggest criticism most haters have of Swift. We then see Swift very clearly mocking Kardashian as she sends out the infamous Snapchat video from last summer, with Swift uttering the line she wrote on Instagram in response to the scandal last year. I’d very much like to be excluded from this narrative. On the whole, there’s A LOT to unpack here. Is Swift copying Beyonce at certain parts? Is she being too direct in responding to critics? Is she playing the annoying victim once again? Or is this prime and perfect Taylor Swift in all her vindictive glory? Watch the full video below and then respond! George Romero Dies; Night Of the Living Dead Director Was 77

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as one of the most revered horror film directors of the modern era has passed away. It was reported this afternoon that George A. Romero, director of the Night Of the Living Dead series and creator of the zombie film genre, has died unexpectedly at the age of 77. Romero’s death was confirmed by his longtime manager, Chris Roe. “Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero passed away on Sunday July 16, listening to the score of ‘The Quiet Man,’ one of his all-time favorite films, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero at his side,” read a statement issued by Roe. “He died peacefully in his sleep, following a brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer, and leaves behind a loving family, many friends, and a filmmaking legacy that has endured, and will continue to endure, the test of time.” Romero rose to fame in the late ’60s, following the surprise success of his first film, Night Of the Living Dead . The movie spawned five sequels, including the most recent installment, 2009’s Suvival Of the Dead . Romero’s knack for blending scares and social commentary resulted in an entirely new subgenre and helped horror films to gain increased respect from both critics and mainstream audiences. As many are pointing out today, it’s impossible to overstate Romero’s impact on popular culture. He’s been cited as a major influence by such beloved genre auteurs as Stephen King and Joss Whedon, and though he publicly expressed his disdain for the series, there would be no Walking Dead franchise were it not for the aesthetic pioneered by Romero. In addition to his wildly popular zombie films, Romero has received acclaim for helming such horror films as Season Of the Witch , Martin , and The Crazies . Tributes to Romero from some of the biggest names in the industry have been pouring in on social media: “Sad to hear my favorite collaborator–and good old friend–George Romero has died. George, there will never be another like you,” Stephen King wrote. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam “RIP George Romero. Zombies, yes. But…go watch MARTIN. Teenage isolation mutated into vampirism. Online culture as plague” tweeted Patton Oswalt. “Rest In Peace George Romero. A great artist, innovator and creator. He changed everything,” Anthony Bourdain commented. Romero is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and two children.

Martin Landau Dies; Legendary Actor Was 89

Martin Landau, a veteran actor whose work has spanned the big screen and small screen, died Saturday afternoon at UCLA Medical Center. He was 89 years old. According to TMZ, which broke this sad piece of news, Landau passed away at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time. He had just recently been hospitalized for unknown reasons and had suffered a few health-related complications before passing away. Among the many impressive credits to his name, Landau starred in such films as Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, Tim Burton’s Ed Wood (for which he won an Academy Award) and Cleopatra. Within the realm of television, Landau is likely best known for his role on the series Mission: Impossible. He left that show after three seasons due to a contract dispute. Landau, who started work as a cartoon, got his major acting breaking playing a gay henchman in the aforementioned Hitchcock classic, which came out in 1959. At that time, of course, portraying a homosexual man in a movie was not a common occurrence. Landau received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) and again a year later in the same category for Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors. He finally won his lone Oscar in 1994. Perhaps most famously, however, the beloved actor actually turned down the role of Mr. Spock on the NBC series Star Trek; it ended up going to Leonard Nimoy, of course. “I turned down Star Trek. It would’ve been torturous,” the star said during a 2011 edition of the PBS documentary series Pioneers of Television, adding at that time: “I would’ve probably died playing that role. I mean, even the thought of it now upsets me. “It was the antithesis of why I became an actor. I mean, to play a character that Lenny (Nimoy) was better suited for, frankly, a guy who speaks in a monotone who never gets excited, never has any guilt, never has any fear or was affected on a visceral level. “Who wants to do that?” Throughout his amazing career, Landau befriended such legends as James Dean and Jack Nicholson, while he briefly dated Marilyn Monroe. Toward the end of his career Landau earned Emmy Award nominations for playing the father of Anthony LaPaglia’s character on Without a Trace and for guest-starring as an out-of-touch movie producer on Entourage. He portrayed billionaire J. Howard Marshall, the 90-year-old husband of Anna Nicole Smith, in a 2013 Lifetime biopic about the late model; and starred opposite Christopher Plummer in Remember in 2015. Expect many tributes from Hollywood greats to come pouring in as news of his death spreads. Altogether, he appeared in close to 200 movies and television shows. May Martin Landau rest in peace. Tori Roloff Shares Precious Photo, Update on Baby Son

Jackson Kyle Roloff is a total cutie. He’s a precious bundle of joy whose every photograph makes us squeal in delight. This much we’ve known ever since the newest member of the Little People, Big World cast came into the world on May 12. Because Jackson was born to Tori and Zach Roloff with the gene for dwarfism , fans have been a bit concerned about the baby, wondering if he’s showing any signs of being different just yet. His parents have talked openly about the challenges that likely await Jackson as he gets older and does not grow at the same rate as his peers, with Zach especially sensitive to this strong possibility because he lived through it himself.  “I grew up with the name-calling,” the 27-year old told People Magazine this spring, adding: “I look at my childhood and being a boy on the farm, it was a little tough because boys are very alpha-doggy and follow the pack. “I was always chasing the back and way behind the pack. It was tough.” Roloff also said at the time that “you have to encourage a dwarf child a little more because it will take them five steps to do what others can do in two.” But this just means Jackson will grow up especially tough, having earned everything he receives. On Wednesday, meanwhile, Tori shared a new picture of her firstborn in celebration of his two-month birthday: She also provided curious followers on Instagram with an update on Jackson. “Our Baby J is two months old today! How?! Baby j is sleeping a consistent 7 hours!” she wrote excitedly as a caption, going on to detail other aspects of her son as follows: Loves smiling at mom and dad! Falls asleep during pool time! Gets excited when we change his diaper. LOVES bath time. Hates being hungry. Then there’s this: “Jackson is 98th percentile for height and weighs over 12 pounds! Keep growin baby J!” Wow. That’s so great. We’re so very happy to hear Jackson is doing well. Im just sayin’. This kid’s a stud muffin, wrote grandpa Matt Roloff as a Facebook caption to this photo. Jackson weighed weighed in at 9 lbs., 1 oz. at birth and measured 20.5 inches long. Doctors say he’ll stop growing at some point (the average male with his condition averages four feet and four inches tall at adulthood), but Jackson was born large and continues to remain big for his age. And adorable for his age! “I want people to know that he’s just like his dad: being a dwarf is just part of the whole package of who he is,” Zach told People in the aforementioned interview. What a perfect attitude. We’ve updated our Jackson Roloff photo gallery with the following snapshots. Click through them now! View Slideshow: Jackson Roloff Baby Photos: OMG! He’s So Cute!

Abby Lee Miller to Cheryl Burke: Watch. Your. Mouth!!!

Abby Lee Miller has been sentenced to over a year in prison. But the irritating reality star refuses to slink away quietly. Shocking, right? Two weeks after a judge told Miller she would need to spend 366 days behind bars , due to her admitted role in a bankruptcy fraud scheme, the ex-Dance Moms host has come out firing against the new Dance Moms host. Back in March, Miller laid into producers of this long-running Lifetime hit, slamming them as cheap and chauvinistic and quitting her job as star of the popular show. Just days later, Cheryl Burke was hired to take over on Season 8, which is filming new episodes as we type. After initially expressing basic excitement over the gig in her first set of public comments since being hired, Burke turned her attention toward Miller herself several days ago. Speaking to reporters backstage at Dancing with the Stars, Burke said the following about the effect Miller’s sentencing has had on her former students: “The girls are so precious, and I feel like they are traumatized from what has happened with Abby, and it’s important for me to still be strict and do what I do.” Added Burke: “I expect nothing but the best from the girls, but it’s also important for me to make them feel confident about themselves because they are all beautiful and talented.” Naturally, these words got back to Miller, who did not miss out on an opportunity to stir up a new feud. “I think it’s a joke,” the 50-year-old choreographer tells Us Weekly , expounding: “In my studio, every single day, I had numerous producers, [choreographer] Gianna [Martello] and some type of child advocate service person who’s the tutor/social worker who is there, who watches … everything that’s said, everything that goes on. “So, how could any traumatizing be going on? That’s ridiculous.” That’s a weird response, isn’t it? Burke is simply saying that the girls are having some trouble dealing with the fact that their former instructor is going to prison. As they should be, right? As Miller likely would even want them to be, no? But Abby isn’t even focused with her ex-pupils in this case. She’s focused on the woman who is taking her place on Dance Moms and she’s taking Burke’s remarks very personally. “I think that’s a really rough statement and I would never say that about Cheryl,” Miller tells the aforementioned tabloid. “I think she needs to watch her mouth.” Or… what? Miller is going to an actual prison. She will soon be spending actual time behind bars. She isn’t really one to be making threats at the moment. In closing, the Pittsburgh native also claims that Burke doesn’t have enough experience for her new job. “Doing a show for three weeks is nothing like doing a show for seven seasons,” Miller says, perhaps forgettign that Burke has competed on 19 seasons of Dancing with the Stars. In closing on our end, we’d like to say the following: Miller sucks. A lot. With her gone, perhaps we actually will watch Dance Moms online on or TV each week to see what Burke brings to the table.

Jennifer Lopez: Totally Controlling Alex Rodriguez?!

By now, you’ve probably heard the news that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are dating. In a way these two are such a perfect match it’s hard to believe they took so long to get together. Their mashup couple name even seemed to announce itself, fully-formed on the day that the news of their relationship went public: J-Rod. Perfection. After several years with an unknown backup dancer, (sorry, Casper Smart ) Lopez was back to dating a dude close to her own level of fame. Of course, the relationship is also more than a little surprising, as A-Rod’s fame comes with a healthy dose of infamy. The guy is widely despised by baseball fans as a result of doping allegations, massive paydays that were rarely justified by his on-field performance, and reports of generally douchey behavior. From a PR standpoint, he has far more to gain from this relationship than J-Lo does. So it’s not surprising that sources close to the couple say there’s a serious power imbalance, and Jen has the upper hand. According to Radar Online, Lopez has issued Rodriguez a lengthy list of demands that he must meet in order for their relationship to continue. “It reads like some kind of style bible,” one insider reveals. “He’s totally under her thumb.” It sounds far-fetched, but if there’s anyone in Hollywood we can imagine issuing a “style bible” to new boyfriends, it’s J-Lo. Despite the demands of the relationship, sources say Alex is happy to be offered the chance to serve as Jen’s arm candy. “He’s very lucky she’s giving him the time of day, given his bad reputation,” one tipster claims. Prior to this relationship, Lopez briefly dated Drake , and the fling apparently taught her some important lessons about the challenges of dating high-profile, successful men. “Jen’s not making the mistakes she made with Drake and Alex is banned from being seen with any other woman under the age of 40,” says the source. But A-Rod’s code of conduct doesn’t end with the company he keeps: “She’s also given him an approved wardrobe list and a list of instructions on where to stand next to her on red carpets,” one insider claims. “It’s even got the expected number of hours they’re to spend together in a week.” Damn, Jen. What’s next, routine urine tests? Just kidding, A-Rod!

Clay Adler, Former MTV Reality Star, Commits Suicide

Clay Adler, a model and television personality best known for his former role on MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, committed suicide while on hanging out with friends last month. He was 27 years old. The ex-reality star was likely best known for his leading role on the aforementioned series. It premiered on August 13, 2007 and concluded on January 2, 2008, serving as a successor to Laguna Beach. The program chronicled the lives of several teenagers living in Newport Harbor (an affluent community within Orange County) and was structured more like a regular TV show than a documentary. Adler appeared on both seasons of the show, taking on the “role” of Grant Newman’s close friend and Chrissy Schwartz’s occasional boyfriend. According to TMZ insiders, Adler and a few pals went shooting in the desert on March 25. At one point, in the middle of firing off a few rounds, Adler turned the gun on his own head and pulled the trigger. He died the following day in the hospital from this gunshot wound. Law enforcement officials tell TMZ that no drugs or alcohol were found in Adler’s system, but the 27-year old had struggled with mental illness in the past. After Newport Harbor went off the air, Adler tried to break into the world of acting, earning roles in such films as Make It or Break It and The Fish Tank. Both were released in 2009. Adler got started in Hollywood around the same time as Jennifer Lawrence. The two struck up a little friendship about 10 years ago, posing together on the red carpet in a photo from the 2007 Movieguide Awards that is making the Internet rounds along with this sad news. Not much else is known about Clay Adler, so we’ll end with his official bio, courtesy of his time as an MTV reality star: Clay Adler is a junior and although shy with girls, he is regarded as Newport Harbor’s hottest guy. Born and raised in Newport Harbor, Adler takes full advantage of his oceanfront playground. Whether he’s fishing from his speedboat off Balboa Island or surfing on one of Newport Harbor’s famous breaks, Adler catches girls’ glances wherever he goes. Adler’s humble attitude belies his looks and he often turns to Grant, his gregarious friend, for a boost of confidence. While it seems Adler could have any girl he wants, his shyness has kept him from having a relationship. But when Adler develops real feelings for Chrissy — and she responds accordingly — it could be his chance to break out. Shia LaBeouf EXPLODES at Bowling Alley: Watch His Rant!

Shia LaBeouf went all Shia LaBeouf at a bowling alley in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. The bizarre actor, who is known for being both weird and short-tempered, got kicked out of the aforementioned establishment after flipping his proverbial lid on a bowler. In the following video, which was initially posted by TMZ, LaBeouf is hanging out at Pinz in Studio City, having been there for about three hours, tossing back beers. This, according to a witness who filmed the footage below and sent it to the celebrity gossip website. The actor then got overly rowdy and began getting into a verbal altercation when the staff told him to leave the premises. After a bartender refused to serve LaBeouf french fries, Shia totally and completely lost it. Why does he scream that this man is a “racist?” It's unclear, based on the video TMZ has obtained. But LaBeouf most definitely has this impression for some reason. LaBeouf, of course, has become better known for incidents such as this over anything he's done on the big screen in a very long time. In 2015, for example, he got arrested in Austin after disobeying a police officer's orders, acting erratically and taunting cops in the area. He was also accused in the past of assaulting now-wife Mia Goth. As for the latest Shia LaBeouf shenanigans? They don't compare to domestic assault at least. Check out the sort of hilarious video now:
