Josh Samman Dies; UFC Fighter Was 28

Josh Samman, a UFC middleweight fighter who has spent the past several days in a coma, died on Wednesday, October 5. He was 28 years old. The sad news was confirmed by Samman manager, Gary Ibarra, to Fox Sports. Ibarra told the network that Samman passed away in a hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Details are still coming in regarding what happened, but here is what we know at this time: The UFC fighter was found unresponsive last Thursday, September 29, alongside his friend Troy Kirkingburg… who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was also 28 years old. Police told the Tallahassee Democrat soon afterward that Samman had a pulse when he was discovered and was breathing when a friend found his body. According to law enforcement official, police responded to “a call of a possible drug overdose.” Samman struggled with substance abuse over the years, having chronicled his challenging life in his book “The Housekeeper: Love, Death, and Prizefighting.” According to the websote MMA Fighting.com, Samman was depressed after his girlfriend, Hailey Bevis, was killed in a car accident in 2013. He reportedly felt responsible for her death because they were sending text messages at the time she got into the crash. Broward County Medical Examiner and Trauma Services Chief Medical Examiner Craig Mallak told the aforementioned MMA website that Samman’s cause of death is not currently known. The site adds that “the Medical Examiner’s office will not administer a toxicology report because Samman survived for days after being found and ‘there are no suitable specimens to test.” It is possible we may never know the cause of death. Samman’s mother told Fox Sports this week that no heroin was found in his system, despite reports of a drug overdose. The fighter hailed from Iowa and did not leave behind any offspring. We send our condolences to his friends, family members and loved ones.

Lady Gaga: New Album Name & Release Date Announced

Lady Gaga dropped her new song, “Perfect Illusion” just last week and it got her fans clamoring for more of the pop sensation.  As is the case with most artists, the album reveal comes slightly after the lead single’s release.  Gaga has now revealed that her new album will be titled “Joanne.” It will be a nod to her late aunt, Joanne Germanotta , who died of Lupus in 1974, at the age of 19.  “She is the woman of my past,” Gaga revealed in an interview with Zayn Lowe on Beats 1.  We must admit, this is a fantastic way to honor her aunt.  Her family also has an Italian restaurant in New York’s Upper West Side that also serves as a nod to Joanne.  It is named Joanne Trattoria.  Lady Gaga: “Perfect Illusion” Gaga took to Instagram to reveal the album artwork and release date.  The album will drop on October 21, so mark your calendars.  She worked very closely with Mark Ronson on the album, so you know its going to be a good one.  Has he ever released any bad music? He’s a lyrical genius and pairing up with Gaga can only mean good things for her career.  Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney recently called off their relationship and some fans were quick to wonder whether her latest single was about Kinney .  It would make a lot of sense, but she was quick to shut these rumors down and made it clear that the song was not a hit out at her ex.  She also maintained that they are good friends.  Gaga has been super busy recently.  She also has a starring role on American Horror Story.  The most recent season was shrouded in secrecy as FX did not want to reveal any plot details about the new iteration of the smash hit series.  Usually FX reveals months in advance what the theme will be, but they opted to keep quiet this time round.  The curiosity factor did not result in increased ratings for the series.   It premiered slightly lower than last year’s edition.  Viewers did not get to see who Lady Gaga is playing this season on the show.  View Slideshow: 2016 MET Gala: All The Red Carpet Looks! Lena Dunham Flaunts Bikini Body, "Endo Scars & All"

Lena Dunham just found the perfect bikini. And she doesn’t care that some people out there might think she doesn’t have the perfect body for it… … she’s going to show it off anyway! The Girls star, writer, producer and creator shared a mirror selfie on Instagram today that depicys her red and black bandeau top and leopard print bottoms. She captioned the snapshot as follows: “when the Target swimsuit does a bitch right, Endo scars & all.” See the sort of racy image for yourself below: To what is Dunham referring? “Endo” is the star’s shorthand for Endometriosis, which a disorder that finds the tissue that typically lines the uterus grows in other places in the body. Back in a letter for the Lenny Letter newspaper (titled “The Sickest Girl”), Dunham explained that the condition is heightened during a woman’s menstrual cycle. This causes the aforementioned tissue to swell and bleed, leading to pain, fatigue, nausea, gastrointestinal problems, and a number of other physical problems. Dunham has battle Endometriosis for many years now. As she mentioned in her Lenny Letter entry, she has attempted numerous different treatments to alleviate the symptoms. They haven’t produced great results. “Out of tangible options, I started Lupron: monthly injections that shut down the production of estrogen and therefore the proliferation of endometrial cells where they shouldn’t be,” she wrote. “It’s a temporary menopause of sorts, and while it solves certain issues, others pop up like whack-a-moles. “I no longer felt a fist was unfurling in my uterus, but I did have zero ability to regulate my temperature, achy hip joints, and the emotional sensitivity of a drunk girl at prom. “Life is a series of trade-offs, I suppose.” Dunham has learned how to regular the disease a bit, but it still gets in the way of her career on occasion. Earlier this year, for example, Dunham skipped the Girls press tour “due to a “a rough patch with the illness” that required her to get rest.” “I’m lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted.” Dunham may be sad that her “Endo” is acting up, but perhaps she’s happy that attention is now on parts of her body that are NOT her mouth. The outspoken star stuck her foot directly into it this month when she wrote that New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. gave her a glimpse at the MET Gala in May and then decided she was most definitely not his type. Beckham didn’t say anything of this nature. It was simply the impression Duham got from the professional athlete. After receiving backlash for making this kind of assumption, for making it appear as if Beckham simply had to be viewing a woman as a piece of meat, Dunham issued an apology. “I struggle at industry events (and in life) with the sense that I don’t rep a certain standard of beauty and so when I show up to the Met Ball surrounded by models and swan-like actresses it’s hard not to feel like a sack of flaming garbage,” she wrote, adding: “This felt especially intense with a handsome athlete as my dinner companion and a bunch of women I was sure he’d rather be seated with. “But I went ahead and projected these insecurities and made totally narcissistic assumptions about what he was thinking, then presented those assumptions as facts. “I feel terrible about it.”

Religious Respect Or Rape Culture: Indian Government Advises Visitors To Not Wear Skirts

If you’re planning a trip to India, you might want to limit your vacation attire to skinny jeans and yoga pants, at least that’s what the Indian Minister of Tourism advises. HelloBeautiful.com reports Mahesh Sharma, India’s minister for tourism and culture, created a travel list of cultural do’s and don’t’s as part of the welcome kit provided to tourists upon arrival at the airport. But some prospective tourists are taking issue with Sharma’s “fashion don’t” recommendations. While addressing the media in Agra, the home of the Taj Majal, Sharma addressed a recommendation that advises women to not wear skirts at night in small cities. “(The list) has instructions like if they are in small cities, they should not roam around alone at night or wear skirts.” Sharma says the advisory has more to do with religious customs than rape culture and women should be mindful when visiting places of religious importance… [ MadameNoire ] Meet The Women Who Perform Female Genital Mutilation Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a common practice in 29 countries located in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Although it’s cited as a rite of passage for women, FGM is a sexually violent practice that can lead to disease and even death. According to Broadly, FGM varies from “country to country and cutter to cutter,” but the World Health Organization has classified the practice into three different types: clitoridectomy (partial or total removal of clitoris), excision (removing the inner labia along with the clitoris) and infibulation (sealing the vaginal opening shut). These rituals are usually performed in unsanitary conditions with unhygienic tools. “Aftercare usually consists of solitary confinement in a lightless room, with the occasional pail of salted water to bathe the resulting wounds,” reports Broadly. Despite the excruciating pain many pubescent pre-teens face because of FGM, there are women who chose to become cutters, even at a young age… [ MadameNoire ] Desiigner: No Methadone, Methamphetamine Or OxyContin In SUV Desiigner caught a raw deal and NYPD has some explaining to do. It turns out that there was no methadone, methamphetamine or OxyContin among the pills found in the SUV the G.O.O.D. Music rapper was a passenger in before he was arrested for charges that included menacing and drug possession. According to TMZ, the authorities claimed the aforementioned drugs were found in the vehicle, but it turns out all the pills were steroids. And they all belonged to the driver of the vehicle. The SUV was initially pulled over after a road rage incident where a driver alleged that Desiigner pointed a gun at him. However, there no gun found in the vehicle. There were reportedly a total of 302 pills in Ziploc bags. Which makes us wonder, what in the hell is this driver doing on the side? Harlem’s Fashion Row Honors Swizz Beatz During New York Fashion Week

“Power’s” Naturi Naughton & “The Breaks” Antione Harris Spotted At Fashion Show Harlem’s fashion mavens headed to downtown NYC to celebrate Swizz Beatz and take in the newest looks at Harlem’s Fashion Row runway show and awards. The music producer received the Icon 360 award at the Sept. 8 fashion show at Chelsea Piers, but there was no sign of Beatz’s wife, singer Alicia Keys at when the artist took to the runway to thank the organization for the prestigious nod. The ninth annual New York Fashion Week event highlights designers of color, and this year drew the likes of actress Naturi Naughton, Beyonce’s stylist Ty Hunter, and “The Breaks” Antoine Harris. Also honored was Teen Vogue’s Elaine Welteroth, who received the Editor of the Year award. Eric Archibald cinched the Stylist of the Year Award and Kyle Hagler, the president of Next Model Management, was recognized with the Trailblazer Award. Nick Viall: Whoa! I’m The Bachelor?!?

Are you still shocked that  Nick Viall has been chosen as the next Bachelor on ABC? You’re not alone. Nick Viall is as stunned as anyone. A few days after Viall appeared on the Bachelor in Paradise after-show to announce the news, he’s made it clear over Instagram that he still can’t believe it’s true. Yes, he’s appeared twice on The Bachelorette and is currently a cast member on the aforementioned franchise spinoff. But still. He’s getting a FOURTH shot at love?!? “The look when it hasn’t quite sunk in yet,” Viall wrote as a caption to the selfie above, adding: “Couldn’t feel more fortunate. Incredibly thankful for all the support. We are going to have some fun! #thebachelor.” Not everyone agrees with this assessment, of course. There’s a petition going around to have both Viall AND Pell as the Bachelors this spring, with the women on the show eventually deciding who ought to be the sole star. Viall, however, seems immune to the criticism. Soon after being confirmed as The Bachelor, he posted with the After Paradise crew (above) and wrote on his Instagram account: “Wow!! Couldn’t be more excited, nervous, and thankful for this opportunity!! It’s going to be a wild ride. “Thank you to everyone for all their support! So thankful!!!! HERE WE GO!! #thebachelor #bachelorinparadise #thankyou.” Most fans of The Bachelor had assumed that Pell would earn this gig, and that includes Pell himself. He’s gone on record in saying just how close he actually got to standing alongside Chris Harrison when the series returns next year. “We were all satisfied, had agreed to the contracts and everything was moving forward,” Pell told Us Weekly on Thursday. “I was checked in to my flight to come to L.A. I got a call from producers Sunday night at about 10 p.m. They said ABC had decided to quote-unquote go in a different direction. “I was supposed to fly out Monday morning at 9 a.m. I had my bags packed and everything. Most dramatic Monday ever!” Wow, yeah. We’d say so. Do you think ABC made the right call? Who would YOU want to see as the Bachelor number-21? And the Winner is? Thomas Gibson Speaks on Criminal Minds Firing

In the most stunning piece of TV news this month, Thomas Gibson is out of a job. The veteran C riminal Minds star got suspended for two weeks after kicking a writer on the set of his hit show… … and then, BOOM ! A day after this information went public, Thomas Gibson got fired . CBS executives released a short, terse statement this afternoon in which they relieved Gibson of his duties as BAU Agent Aaron Hotcher, saying: “Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. “Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.” Was it simply a matter of Gibson getting into the aforementioned dispute with a producer named Virgil Williams? No, it doesn’t sound that way. An earlier report alleged that Gibson also shoved an assistant director back in 2010 (the same year he was pulled over for drunk driving, FWIW) and was told to attend anger management classes as a result. The actor appears to have a history of violence on the Criminal Minds set . We can’t say for certain, but it’s therefore safe to assume that there may have been other incidents in between these two that have not yet been made public. Due to this influx of inappropriate actions, CBS felt that it had no choice but to let Gibson go. A couple hours after he was ousted from a job he held since 2005, Gibson released a statement to TV Line . “I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years,” it reads. “I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. “I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.” Gibson is the lead of the show. So fans will no doubt be wondering: How is this going to work?!? We have it on strong authority that Gibson will appear on the first two episodes of Criminal Minds Season 12. His character will then be sent off on a special assignment, which coincides with Paget Brewset coming back to reprise the role of Emily Prentiss. She will assist the BAU on a case, which is a stroke of good fortunate for the drama (this was all planned out before the Gibson situation even arose). CBS obviously hopes that Brewster’s return will soften the blow of Gibson’s departure. But there are still many questions that will need to be answered as Season 12 goes along. Hotcher simply isn’t coming back, which will need to be explained, while viewers wonder if a new male lead will be brought in to take Gibson’s place. Remember: Shemar Moore departed the show as Derek Morgan just prior to Season 11 ending, so Criminal Minds has lost two key players in a matter of months. How do you feel about this huge casting decision? You’ve gotta figure producers didn’t think they had a choice if they made it so quickly, right? Will you tune in for the September 28 premiere? Jesse Williams Inspires Us All with BET Awards Speech

Jesse Williams may not have been a household name prior to the 2016 BET Awards. He's grown in popularity as a key cast member on Grey's Anatomy, but he's still flown under the Hollywood radar for the most part. That's because Williams is more likely to help out with an important cause then have lunch at The Grove… … but that's also why he was honored at the aforementioned ceremony. In accepting the Humanitarian Award, Williams earned a standing ovation, thanking both his parents and his wife before dedicating his award to “the real organizers all over the country,” those he said are realizing that “a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do.” The actor continued: “The more we learn about who we are and how we got here, the more we will mobilize,” prior to acknowleding black women, “who have spent their lives dedicated to nurturing everyone before themselves. We can and will do better for you.” Williams worked as a history teacher before he started acting. He's a member of the board of directors at both The Advancement Project (a national civil rights organization) and Sankofa, a social justice organization founded by Harry Belafonte. The latter works to unite artists and grassroot partners to elevate the voices of the disenfranchised. Freedom is always coming in the hereafter. But, you know what, the hereafter is a hustle. We want it now,” Williams said, concluding as follows: We’ve been floating this country on credit for centuries and we’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people – out of sight and out of mind – while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment like oil, black gold, ghettoizing and demeaning our creations then stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strained fruit. Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble: Is It Over?!?

It may be all over for one of the most popular couples in Hollywood. Or at least for Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble. According to OK! Weekly sources, the Kardashian matriarch has ended her long-term relationship with Gamble, though the reasons why are up for debate. Those who watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians online recently saw how Gamble is actually pretty close to Kourtney Kardashian, with an insider telling the tabloid that Kris feels “humiliated” over this connection. She can’t believe her daughter and her boyfriend have been spending so much time together, even if she doesn’t suspect any romance between the pair. “Kris has already told Corey he’s out,” the source confirms, adding that the two will keep up appearances for now because they “have to go through the motions for the show.” It really does all come down to the bottom line of business for Kris Jenner, doesn’t it?
