Justine Sacco, a PR executive, is in major hot water after publicly tweeting a racist “joke” during a flight to Africa that went viral and didn’t go over too well. “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” she wrote. Yeah … Justine Sacco Racist Tweet Justine Sacco is a New York-based communications director for media conglomerate IAC, which reps brands like OKCupid, Vimeo and CollegeHumor. At least she was. IAC responded to the controversy in a statement last night: “This is an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC. This is a very serious matter and we are taking appropriate action.” The company, which is operated by billionaire media executive Barry Diller, noted that it had been unable to reach the in-flight “employee in question.” It’s unclear why she was flying to the continent in the first place, although she may want to consider staying in Africa after the backlash this caused. The offending tweet disappeared late last night , or this morning in Africa. Just after midnight in New York, in fact, Sacco’s entire account was gone. Not before outrage ensued over what many dubbed the “worst tweet of the year,” with one vengeful Twitter user putting Sacco’s cell phone number online. “She gon get that message I left,” one Twitter user wrote. Another added, “Listen, homegirl is about to be FIRED.” Sacco’s tweet also inspired the Twitter hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet, with users mocking her idiocy and speculating what would happen when she lands. “Sometimes you land with more baggage than you took off with,” one user tweeted, while others were more coarse in what they hoped she’d encounter. Further looking to capitalize on the situation, someone even created a website in the offending social media user’s name, justinesacco (dot) com It links to various charities benefiting sub-Saharan Africa. It’s possible Sacco was the victim of hackers, but her past tweets make that scenario seem less likely. Hospital Sued By Mother After Sending Dead Son Home In A Cab Via UPI A North Carolina mother is suing AlliedBarton Security Services after she says they put her son in a taxi and sent him home even though he was already dead. Hospital security guards sent, A’Darrin Washington, who they claimed was “uncooperative” and “refusing to talk or move,” home from Cumberland County Hospital on Nov. 22, 2011. A’Darrin had been going to the hospital for 10 years for treatment for recurrent pneumonia associated with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. On Nov. 14, A’Darrin was admitted to the hospital and misdiagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. After he was correctly diagnosed with fungal pneumonia and given the proper medication, the hospital said he was ready to be discharged on Nov. 21 even though he was still feeling weak and ill. When hospital called a taxi service to take A’Darrin home the next day, AlliedBarton Security guards moved him from a wheelchair and into the cab, according to his mother. “(A) nurse called for security to escort Mr. Washington from his hospital bed to the lobby for discharge because Mr. Washington was allegedly ‘uncooperative’ and ‘refusing to talk or move,’” the complaint states. “Mr. Washington was unresponsive due to the fact that he was dying.” Deborah Washington claims that the guards put her son in the taxi and even crossed his legs. When he arrived at home after a 45-minute trip, he was “unresponsive and cold to the touch.” She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for negligence, wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress. The KT&G ads featuring a monkey dressed as a human were launched a month ago to promote the brand’s new “This Africa” cigarettes, according to the Agence France-Presse. The ads to promote cigarettes dried and roasted in “traditional” African style showed monkeys dressed as humans, tagged with the slogan “Africa is coming!” Zambian Mirriam Simasiku, an African woman living in Seoul, told the Korea Times she found the ads extremely offensive. “According to those images, Africans are just a bunch of uneducated monkeys,” she told the publication. “We as Africans are still a minority against a multitude of pure Koreans with no law to protect us. The White Widow May Have Been Killed In Terrorist Attack In Kenya Officials believe “the white widow” who is a prime suspect in the terrorist attack on a Kenyan shopping mall, may have been one of the three Islamist extremists killed. According to Mail Online ‘White widow’ Samantha Lewthwaite may have been killed during the Nairobi siege. As attempts to flush the remaining militants out of a Kenyan shopping centre continued, officials said three Islamist extremists had died during attempts to free their hostages. Insiders said one was a white woman – adding weight to the theory that Lewthwaite, the fugitive widow of 7/7 bomber Jermaine Lindsay, was behind the attack that has left 62 dead and 170 injured. Downing Street said at least six of the dead are British and warned there was ‘potential for further bad news’. Samantha Lewthwaite converted to Islam as a young woman and married a man who went on to be a 7/7 London suicide bomber. She has become a key figure in the terror group behind this weekend’s attack. The so-called ‘White Widow’, who is the world’s most wanted woman, has been on the run in East Africa after police foiled a Christmas bomb plot against Western tourists in the coastal resort of Mombasa in 2011. A report from the Reuters news agency said three sources – one intelligence officer and two soldiers – had confirmed that a white woman was among the fallen terrorists. Police are exploring whether she could be a hostage dressed in one of the terrorist’s clothes, but the Foreign Office is also examining Muslim convert Lewthwaite’s links to the massacre. The 29-year-old mother of four, from the Home Counties, is now a leading figure in Al Shabaab – the terror group that has claimed responsibility for the killings in the Israeli-owned Westgate shopping centre. Police believe she is the one of the group’s main financiers and bomb-making tutors. However, sources admit they still do not know the full extent of her involvement in the attack in Nairobi. Nevertheless, a senior Kenyan anti-terror officer yesterday claimed: ‘We believe she was commanding the operation but her fate is not yet known. It is understood she was a sniper also.’ The Mail revealed yesterday that soldiers say they saw a white woman in a veil shouting orders to gunmen in Arabic, while a Twitter account purporting to represent Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the atrocity and praised Lewthwaite, from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, as ‘a brave lady’. It’s a damn shame people can’t go to a mall and shop without being murdered. If she was killed, it still doesn’t bring back the lives of those who were lost during this unnecessary tragedy.
