Black Republican Mia Love Admits There’s ‘No Home’ For Minorities In Hostile Trump-Led GOP

A fter her election defeat, the only Black Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives  Mia Love lashed out at the President Trump -dominated GOP for its hostility toward minorities and women. I think it’s because they feel like they have a home — or Democrats make them feel like they have a home. I’ve said this to my colleagues, we need to do a better job than just talking about how great our policies are, we need to actually let people know that we care. They need to like Republicans,” the Utah representative told the Washington Examiner  recently. Love was defeated in her bid for a third term in Congress by Democrat  Ben McAdams  in a close race. It’s unclear what the political future holds for Love, who made history as the first and only Black Republican woman in Congress. Many in the GOP hoped that her political success would help to bring racial diversity to the party. Love, the 42-year-old daughter of Haitian immigrants, said she was offended by Trump’s racist rhetoric. Yet, like many of her Republican colleagues, Love went along with Trump’s agenda. Trump publicly showed his contempt for Love on  the day after the midterms . “Mia Love gave me no love and she lost,” Trump said mocking the congresswoman, naming her among incumbent House members who didn’t shower him with praise and were defeated. “Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia.” She said it will be challenging for the GOP to achieve racial and gender diversity while Trump is still in office. The Democrats, on the other hand, gained 40 House seats in the midterm election, fueled in part by African-American women candidates. Blac Chyna Slammed for Selling Skin-Whitening Bleach Cream

Blac Chyna has made it very clear that she doesn’t feel that she’s getting enough money from Rob Kardashian . So she is now endorsing a line of skin-bleaching creams, which she plans to promote in person in Nigeria. Twitter is positively livid that she could stoop so low. The product that she is hawking is “Whitenicious X Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream.” That’s quite a mouthful. And also problematic as hell. Each and every cream cream jar features a Swarovski crystal stud design. Those simple jars sell for $250 each. And Chyna is traveling to promote the products in person in Nigeria. Chyna claims that she has been using Whitenicious dark spot corrector on herself for years. Her alleged use of this product has been to deal with darker, hyperpigmented areas of her skin. Now she has her own line of the products to promote for a hefty sum. Next week, while most of us are finishing up our Thanksgiving leftovers, Chyna will be in Lago. This is not earning her a lot of love here in the States. Colorism is basically racism’s less famous sibling, but it’s just as insidious. In colorism, even people of color may dismiss or discriminate against members of their own ethnic communities over skin tone. While European colonizers did not bring colorism to Africa, centuries of racist occupation, oppression, and influence have made things worse. Now, Chyna is capitalizing — literally — on the self-hatred that dark-skinned women may feel towards themselves. A lot of beauty products seek to exploit the insecurities of consumers. Skin-bleaching products take that a step further, exploiting racism and colorism to turn a profit. Nigeria already has a problem with people using skin-bleaching, as people both in the US and in Nigeria have pointed out. “Blac chyna is so gross for this,” tweets one outraged Nigerian. The tweet continues: “She’s targeted nigeria because it has one of the highest rates of skin bleaching, so so trash” Because of this, Chyna’s name trended on Twitter on Tuesday as people responded to her new business venture with horror and disgust. It is understandable that many people would feel that they are being betrayed by a member of their own community. However, some believe that people are wrong to point the finger at Chyna. “Yall really mad at Blac Chyna for signing a deal that supports skin whitening,” begins another tweet. The post continues: “but ain’t mad at the company that signed her(African) or the people who are buying it(also African).” This person believes that the blame resides elsewhere. “Chyna isn’t the culprit in this,” the tweet concludes. “Skin whitening had been a thing in Nigeria for years!” So, who is right? The answer is as complicated as the problem, and, as a white man, it’s ultimately way out of my lane. But it seems clear that a sizable and vocal portion of the black community in America and in Nigeria is upset. They feel like Chyna is exploiting the worst of people’s instincts to fill her pockets. It is also clear that a lot of people were buying this anyway, and that if Chyna didn’t have this deal, someone else would. Chyna is no stranger to controversy, and is probably counting on her payday being worth any backlash. View Slideshow: Blac Chyna to Rob Kardashian: Pay Your Child Support, Broke-Ass!

Police Trying To Cover Up Killing of Morehouse Man, Says His Sister Who Is A Facebook Executive

S an Mateo County Sheriff’s Department is trying to cover up for its officers who were involved in the October Taser killing of unarmed Chinedu Valentine Okobi , a 36-year-old father and Morehouse College graduate, according to Okobi’s sister. See Also: Cover-up? Police Narrative Of Jemel Roberson’s Killing Contradicts Eyewitnesses’ Ebele Okobi took to Facebook on Sunday after she and other family members had a private viewing late last week of the police arrest videos, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The police videos “were shocking because they contradicted, in every single particular, the statement that the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office released and to which San Mateo District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe referred in multiple news outlets after my brother’s murder,” said Okobi, Facebook’s public policy director for Africa, in her post . On Oct. 3, the sheriff’s department reported that an officer confronted Chinedu Okobi running in and out of traffic in the city of Millbrae. He allegedly assaulted a deputy who called for backup. Four other officers responded, and at least one of the officers killed Okobi with a Taser. There are at least two other videos of the arrest, recorded by witnesses, that also contradict the sheriff’s department’s narrative of Chinedu Okobi being aggressive, the family said. They are urging the department to release its video to the public. Black Politicians Are Trying To Save The Democratic Party From Itself

W hile Democrats made some noteworthy strides in last week’s midterm elections, the consensus seemed to be that the party has been going down the wrong path of politics as of late. And nowhere has that been more clear than among its leadership, which has suffered a series of missteps and blunders that may have contributed to Democrats not being as successful as they had hoped in the crucial elections. All of which likely explains the apparent internal revolution going on with the Democratic Party, which could emerge post-elections with new leadership. See Also: Black Women Call Out DNC And Ask For Meeting: ‘Organizing Without Black Women Will Prove To Be A Losing Strategy’ With the party struggling to recover from a political retreat for several election cycles, Speaker of the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been in the political crosshairs of Democrats who are eager to take her position . Ohio’s Rep. Marcia Fudge , a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), is one of the latest to hint at plans to compete for the coveted House Speaker post, telling the Huffington Post on Thursday that she’s “overwhelmed” by all the folks who want to see her challenge Pelosi’s leadership. “I don’t hate Nancy. I think Nancy has been a very good leader. I just think it’s time for a new one,” she said, adding that there are far more lawmakers who oppose Pelosi’s leadership than the 17 who signed a letter saying they won’t vote for her to continue as speaker in 2019. “I've not made a decision, I'm still thinking about it,” Rep. Marcia Fudge tells @ElizLanders tonight, adding she's been “overwhelmed” by people urging her to run. pic.twitter.com/0vP9686qZ7 — Ashley Killough (@KilloughCNN) November 15, 2018 Fudge dismissed the narrative that Pelosi led the party back to power in the House and criticized the California Democrat for failing to advocate for Black lawmakers in Congress. Perhaps most troubling to Black Democrats is Pelosi’s eagerness to make peace with President Trump , who brought his long history of racism with him to the White House. Shortly after Democrats won control of the House, the speaker began talking about the same bipartisanship that the Trump-led Republicans have avoided like the plague. Meanwhile, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez also came under fire from the CBC. Caucus members passed a vote of no confidence on Wednesday against Perez who took over the DNC in February 2017. Perez praised Black women for leading the party to victory last year in key races in Virginia and Alabama. However, when it came to several Black women candidates in 2018 races, the party showed little support initially, like in the case of Ayanna Pressley . Yet those same Black women stepped up as voters and candidates alike to help the party regain control of the House. Gillum Fires Back At Trump’s Fake Election Fraud Claim

Go here to read the rest:

T allahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum shot down President Donald Trump ’s election fraud claim and his call to name GOP candidate Ron DeSantis the winner of Florida’s gubernatorial race. SEE ALSO: Black America ‘Did The Thing’ With High Voter Turnout On Election Day Gillum rallied supporters Monday night at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Boynton Beach, Florida, saying that Trump and current Republican Gov. Rick Scott are trying to rush the recount process, WPEC-TV reported. “If we don’t swear in a new governor until January, what is the rush for you? Count every vote,” Gillum said. “They’re claiming voter fraud because supervisors of elections are counting votes.” That statement was in response to Trump’s tweet on Monday morning. The president stated, “The Florida Election should be called in favor of Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis in that large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged. An honest vote count is no longer possible-ballots massively infected. Must go with Election Night!” Rick Scott is using every stunt within his power to suppress the vote. Keep fighting, Andrew Gillum! https://t.co/PVSZ72RJrv — NewsOne (@newsone) November 12, 2018 Gillum continues his fight to become Florida’s first African-American governor in a race that was too close to call. Unofficial results showed that DeSantis led Gillum by 0.41 percent, ABC News   reported. Under Florida law, election officials ordered a machine recount on Saturday because the vote margin was less than 0.5 percent. All 67 counties face a state-ordered deadline of Thursday to finish their recounts. Meanwhile, Gillum isn’t alone in calling out Trump. Circuit Chief Judge Jack Tuter declared on Monday that there’s no evidence of voter fraud in the recount. However, Gillum told his audience that there were voter suppression issues during the election, as well as some irregularities . In one instance, a heavily Republican district allowed 150 voters to scan and email their ballots, which violated state law. “Regardless of what the outcome of what this race is, we want every single vote in all 67 counties — Republican, Democrat or otherwise — that every single vote be counted,” he said. Black Man Paralyzed In Police Shooting Enters Political Arena

L ess than a week after the 2018 midterm elections, a Black man who was paralyzed in a 2012 police shooting wants to campaign for office in 2019. See Also: Jury Deliberates In Case Of White Cops Accused Of ‘Terrorizing And Paralyzing’ Black Driver Leon Ford announced on Sunday, exactly six years after the shooting, that he’s campaigning for a seat on the Pittsburgh City Council, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The 25-year-old candidate, who was surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, vowed to amplify the voices of Black people and the youth in his community if elected. “I think that from the response alone, you see people excited in a way they’ve never really been excited for a city council race in a very long time, from elders to the youth,” said Ford. Six years to the day after he was shot and paralyzed by police, Leon Ford is officially kicking off his campaign for Pittsburgh City Council. pic.twitter.com/4umkuAQpYc — Julian Routh (@julianrouth) November 11, 2018 It’s not too soon for politicians to begin focusing on the off-year election. In 2019, gubernatorial races will headline down-ballot elections in Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Several state, local legislatures, and mayoral races are also on tap. Ford entered the spotlight in Pittsburgh in a disturbing case of alleged police excessive force . Pittsburgh Police Officer David Derbish shot him five times during a November 2012 traffic stop and a second officer was accused of assaulting him. A lengthy federal trial in 2017 ended with a jury in deadlocked on Derbish’s liability. After a second trial was scheduled to get underway, Pittsburgh settled the case for $5.5 million in January 2018. “We are very happy for Leon and his family to have closure so he can move forward and be the great and successful man he is destined to be,” a statement from Ford’s lawyer said following the settlement. Ford is indeed moving forward with his life. He’s competing as a Democrat, and he has the May 21 primary circled on his calendar. Problems With Broward County Ballots Could Bode Well For Gillum

Here is the original post:

T he problematic design of Broward County’s ballots could have given prominence to the Florida gubernatorial race in which Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum could become the state’s first Black governor. SEE ALSO: Andrew Gillum Fires Back At Wannabe Dictator Donald Trump Controversy over the design brewed as a machine recount of statewide ballots was ordered on Saturday, which prompted Gillum to withdraw his earlier concession of defeat to GOP rival Ron DeSantis on election night. “Let me say clearly, I am replacing my words of concession with an uncompromising and unapologetic call that we count every single vote. I say this recognizing my fate in this may or may not change,” he said at a news conference. DeSantis led Gillum by fewer than 34,000 votes or a margin of .409 percent, which triggered an automatic machine recount under Florida law because the difference was less than half a percentage point, USA Today reported. Mayor Andrew Gillum: “Let me say clearly, I am replacing my words of concession with an uncompromised, and unapologetic call that we count every single vote.” Can we get an amen? pic.twitter.com/fUaeadGbiO — Ricky Davila (@TheRickyDavila) November 11, 2018 Broward County, a Democratic stronghold in South Florida, is at the epicenter of the tightly contested governor race, as well as the U.S. Senate competition between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson and Gov. Rick Scott . One puzzling issue surrounds the fact that about 26,000 more voters chose a gubernatorial candidate but not a Senate candidate. The ballot design could explain what happened, NBC News reported. The list of Senate candidates appeared buried at the bottom left column of the ballot, under the list of instructions. Candidates for governor, however, were placed at the top of the center column in a prominent position. There could be tens of thousands of uncounted votes in Broward County, where Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes   is under scrutiny by Republicans . Broward was also at the center of Florida’s botched 2000 presidential election. Meanwhile, DeSantis has declared himself the winner, even though the race is too close to call. His campaign released a video on Saturday restating its view that DeSantis, who had the full support of President Donald Trump , won the race. Gillum dismissed his opponent’s claim to victory given the uncounted votes. “What I do know is that every single Floridian who took time to go out to cast their vote, to participate in this process deserve the comfort of knowing that in a democratic society and in this process, every vote will be counted,” Gillum said. David Eason Attacks Kailyn Lowry on Instagram, Gets Absolutely Roasted In Response

David Eason is the type of person that we don't see in the public eye very much. He's an emasculated, unemployed bigot with nothing better to do but spend his wife's money and attempt to stir up fights on social media in hopes of distracting himself from his own uselessness. Generally, guys like David can only be found attempting to cadge free drinks at their local dive bars or cutting eyeholes in bedsheets in preparation for a late night “rally.” But David married Jenelle Evans , which means he actually has an audience for his loser-y online ramblings. Unfortunately for David, that audience really just wishes he would stick to flat-ironing his beard hair in his rapidly sinking house. Take a look: 1. Dipsh-t Dave It’s impossible to overstate how bored Eason is. These days, the 30-year-old spends most of his time on social media spewing bigotry and attempting to stir up fights with people who still have jobs. 2. Any Target Will Do Whether he’s spewing bizarre conspiracies about the “true” causes of the Civil War or simply attacking the appearances of his former co-stars, Dave has proven himself to be the ultimate snowflake. 3. Rage-aholic He’s addicted to his own outrage, and he needs conflict to distract him from the sad state of his own life. 4. Small Potatoes David LOVES stirring the pot with fans by making bizarre claims such as the slaves of the antebellum South were not actually from Africa, but he recognizes that fighting with non-celebs will only earn him so much attention. 5. Enter Kail And so, he occasionally focuses his attention on more famous targets, such as his wife’s Teen Mom 2 co-star, David Eason. 6. Why Kail? David might can justify his recent dislike for Lowry in a number of different ways, and if pressed, he would probably claim that it’s all because Lowry has feuded with Jenelle over the years. But is that the real reason? View Slideshow
