Andre 3000 Denies Outkast Breakup

‘I’m going to be in Outkast forever in some kind of way,’ Andre tells Fader. By Rob Markman Andre 3000 Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images Andre 3000 is economical with his words. It’s not often that the ATLien raps or even grants an interview, and when he does, die-hards hang onto every syllable, even if they sometimes misconstrue his sentiment. In a new interview with Fader magazine, 3 Stacks sets the record straight and denies the persistent rumors of an Outkast breakup. “So I think when I hear things on the Internet that Outkast is over, I think, that’s a shame. Because I don’t have the power to stop Outkast, you know? I didn’t start Outkast by myself. I don’t have the power to stop Outkast,” Andre said in the interview, which can be found on Fader ‘s website. Andre and bandmate Big Boi dropped their debut LP, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, back in 1994, and they have since become an iconic act in hip-hop and music as a whole. In 2000 they dropped their fourth album, Stankonia, which they followed three years later with the double disc Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below. Though packaged as an Outkast album, each disc served as solo expression for the two MCs: Big Boi commandeered the Speakerboxxx portion and 3000 helmed The Love Below disc. In 2006, they released the “Idlewild” soundtrack together, but despite the constant rumors, there has been no group project since. There may never be another ‘Kast album, 3 Stacks says. “We’re not on the roster or on a schedule with a label to put out an Outkast album. I can’t say if or when we will, but I’m going to be in Outkast forever in some kind of way,” he said. There is an Andre solo LP on the horizon, but of course there is no date. “I’m at a place now where my deadline is my own self. I’m looking at it like, OK, I don’t want to be like 40 years old and to haven’t done this album,” Dre said. “And I don’t have a sense of time. When people say, Man, we haven’t heard from you in like five years, or seen you, to me, it feels like a year. I don’t have a good sense of time, but I do know I’m not a spring chicken anymore.” What’s your favorite Outkast album? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists OutKast Andre 3000

The band released their album Battleground, featuring their current single “Glad You Came,” back in their native U.K. in 2011. “Great news, America: We are thrilled to announce we will be releasing our first US album on April 24!! It’ll all go down March 20 to 22. “Glad You Came” was recently covered on “Glee,” and Wanted bandmember Tom Parker spoke to MTV News about all the Stateside attention his band’s getting. “Things have gone absolutely crazy. I can’t believe it,” Parker said of their meteoric rise to fame in America. “We always wanted that aim to go and do it in America. We did under the radar [in the U.K.] and it’s kind of going back to the old traditional way that boy bands and bands used to do it, I suppose. It feels good and we’re doing it old school.” Related Artists The Wanted

Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream: Complete Confection For ‘Hard-Core Fans’

‘I will close the book on Teenage Dream soon, but [ Complete Confection ] just felt really organic,’ Perry tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry Photo: Jeff Bottari/ Getty Images Katy Perry may already be thinking of what direction she will take on her next album, but before she does that, she wanted to do something special for her fans. On March 26, Perry will release Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection , which features all of her songs from her chart-topping album Teenage Dream plus some bonus tracks. “With Teenage Dream, the reasons why I wanted to put out this special edition, Complete Confection, is two major reasons for me: One, I’m doing it mostly for the hard-core fans because they always love all the extras,” Perry told MTV News in Los Angeles. “The second reason I wanted to do it is because it’s my one last push, to push that person that is on the precipice of becoming a fan. They’re thinking to themselves, ‘I bought four or five singles, maybe I should actually complete my album and now I should really complete my album because I’m gonna get 19 songs for a really great price.’ I think it’s like a bargain and I’m doing it for my fans.” Perry revealed that she wrote several songs that didn’t make the cut on Dream, which is why Confection will feature not only Perry’s new hit single “Part of Me” but several other songs, including the Tricky Stewart-produced track “Dressing Up.” “This song is really special. It’s called ‘Dressing Up,’ so it’s going to be a big record,” Stewart told MTV News in October. “It definitely fits. It’s right there in what her sensibilities are as a musician and a songwriter. She doesn’t change much. She has a very keen musical taste. It’ll be really good.” Even though there are several new tracks on Confection, Perry says she is not considering this a whole new album. “I’m really excited and I’m not putting it out there as, like, another album — you know how you find different artists do their version, like eight songs or something. I’m am ready to make a new record, and I will close the book on Teenage Dream soon, but [ Complete Confection ] just felt really organic.” Are you excited for Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection ? Demi Lovato’s Music Reflects Her ‘Open Heart’

‘It’s nice being able to tell the truth,’ Lovato says of Unbroken and her ‘Stay Strong’ documentary, which debuts Tuesday on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Universal Music Group Demi Lovato is no stranger to being honest with her ups and downs. When she dropped Unbroken last fall, several of the cuts, including the album’s staggering lead single, “Skyscraper,” seemed to reflect on her own personal journey. Recorded after she left a treatment center in 2011, the album was full of not only girl-power anthems, but also reflective ballads about the struggles of loving both yourself and others. “The album I wanted to keep upbeat and uplifting; I didn’t want to come out with this depressing album. I think it’s important that I kept a lot of my heart open on the album because I talked about my personal issues,” she told MTV News about the release before Tuesday’s premiere of her MTV documentary, “Stay Strong,” which also touches on many of her personal issues and trying her best to put her life back together after entering rehab in October 2010. “But I also had some fun dance songs on there for people to enjoy,” she added about the album. Whereas some pop stars tend to shy away from their own lives on their albums, Lovato fully embraced the joys and the sorrows of her life. “I think it’s nice being able to tell the truth and being able to really talk about these issues rather than hiding it and not talking about it and sharing it,” she added. “So I think I enjoy it more than anything I’d done before when I was trying to hide everything.” The album’s next single is “Give Your Heart a Break.” Lovato is set to welcome fans into her life when “Stay Strong” debuts on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV followed by a live Q&A with the star during “The After Show” at 11 p.m. ET/PT. “I’ve just been working at it a day at a time and have been trying to continue to fight my hardest,” she told us about still dealing with her problems in the public eye. “And I’ve had my ups and downs, and I’m still trying, but overall it’s been a really great journey, and I’m thankful for everything that I’ve been through.” Don’t miss “Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” debuting Tuesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. ‘Walking Dead’ Creator Explains Shocking Death

‘It would be inaccurate to portray this show as anything other than completely dangerous,’ Robert Kirkman tells MTV News. By Josh Wigler Jeffrey DeMunn in “The Walking Dead” Photo: AMC Warning: Major spoilers for the latest episode of “The Walking Dead” lurk ahead! Death is par for the course on “The Walking Dead,” but that knowledge wasn’t enough to prepare for the shocking death of fan-favorite character Dale. Veteran actor Jeffrey DeMunn made his final appearance on the AMC survival horror series on Sunday night, and as is custom for the show, his exit was a gruesome one: While strolling along the quiet fields of Hershel’s farm, Dale was mortally injured by a roaming zombie and, ultimately, euthanized by a bullet to the head from antihero Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). “Dale’s death comes at a time where he’s very much needed,” executive producer Robert Kirkman told MTV News about the shocking decision to kill DeMunn’s character. “[Rick and the gang] are trying to make this decision on what to do with Randall. The farm is becoming increasingly dangerous. There is still tension between Rick and Shane, despite the fact that it appears that they’ve put much of their differences behind them for now. They need that moral compass [in Dale], and it’s been taken away.” Losing Dale will have massive repercussions on the rest of the “Walking Dead” cast, Kirkman promised. Chief among those feeling the sting will be Carl (Chandler Riggs), who was partially responsible for Dale’s death. Earlier in the episode, Carl wandered into the forest by himself and taunted a seemingly immobile zombie — the very same zombie that ripped Dale’s guts out. “It’s interesting to see Carl doing kid stuff: going out on his own, trying to prove he’s strong enough to kill a zombie, proving that he’s deserving of carrying a gun,” Kirkman said. “He instigated this whole situation. We’re going to deal with his emotions and what comes from him causing Dale’s death to a certain extent. That’s definitely one of the big repercussions where Dale’s death affects these characters.” Once again, Dale’s death proves that the “Walking Dead” TV series is more than willing to deviate from the “Walking Dead” comic books. In Kirkman’s comics, Dale survives dozens and dozens of issues before finally succumbing to a fatal zombie bite. Seeing the popular character leave the show so soon is bound to be a shock for longtime fans then — but that wasn’t the only kind of shock value Kirkman and company were aiming for. “One of the things we wanted to do is show how dangerous these zombies actually are,” Kirkman said. “We were sitting around the writers’ room early on in the planning of season two, and we thought, you know, there aren’t a lot of zombies actually succeeding in what they’re trying to do. They eat people here and there, but we’ve never really had a zombie actually take down one of our main characters — at least not for a while, not since the first season. We wanted to remind people how dangerous these creatures are. It also threw a wrench in everyone’s plans to take Dale off the table, so those two ideas merged into one until we eventually came to offing this character.” Fans aren’t just losing Dale, of course: they’re also losing DeMunn, one of the finest actors “The Walking Dead” has to offer. Taking an actor of such high caliber off the playing field is not something the “Dead” team treated lightly, Kirkman said. “It’s a tremendous loss,” he admitted. “It’s difficult. It’s difficult for the cast, because they’ve become pretty much a family hanging out in rural Georgia. They keep each other company. It’s definitely a big deal [losing Jeffrey]; it sucks for everybody. Jeffrey in particular brought a serious sense of gravitas to the role and definitely legitimized this show by gracing us with his presence. We were lucky to get an actor of his caliber. He added a lot to the show, and his presence is definitely going to be missed. “But,” Kirkman added, “this is ‘The Walking Dead.’ It would be inaccurate to portray this show as anything other than completely dangerous, and in order to do that, you have to lose characters from time to time.” Were you shocked by Dale’s death? Justin Bieber Hopes To ‘Gain Respect’ With Believe

‘It’s really exciting for me, ’cause I’m able to break out of my shell,’ Bieber tells MTV News about his next album. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Justin Bieber Photo: WireImage With Justin Bieber expected to drop Believe later this year, he’s also hoping to expand his fanbase. Of course his first priority is to make his fans happy, but he’d also like to prove to any haters out there that he’s more than just a tween dream; he’s a certifiable pop star who can make music that appeals to all demographics. “You can’t really expect anything from my album. It’s really, really different,” he told MTV News. “And it’s new; it’s not the same thing everyone’s used to hearing right now on the radio. It’s really exciting for me, ’cause I’m able to break out of my shell and show my fans what I’m all about and show other people who might not like my music that maybe they can like my music. “I’m not trying to lose any of my young fans,” he continued. “I’m not trying to lose any of my fans, I’m just trying to gain fans, and I think that’s the best way to do it. Rather than try to grow up and lose your fans, you can get better and evolve and gain respect from more people.” Bieber is slated to drop the album’s first single, “Boyfriend,” on March 26, and he said it will certainly please his most devoted fans. “This new album is crazy. I’ve spent the most time on it creatively, just writing myself and being involved in the whole process. It’s something that comes from my heart,” he explained of the 2012 release. “I hope all my fans and all my Beliebers like it. With my new album, Believe, there’s so many different songs and so many different styles. It’s really versatile and fun. My first single is going to be amazing — everyone’s going to love it.” And while it’s still a ways off, Bieber confirmed he will take the album on the road. “I don’t know if it’ll be called the Believe Tour,” he said. “I don’t know yet, I really have no clue. But there will be a tour for my album, Believe. 100 percent. And I will be on the road, hanging out.” What are you expecting from Bieber’s next project? Let us know in the comments!
