Justin Bieber Made A ‘Smash’ With Far East Movement

Producer RedOne opens up to MTV News about recording session. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber might be singing hooks like a G6 in the very near future. Super-producer RedOne told MTV News that he recently hit the studio with the teen star, and it involved dance-floor phenoms Far East Movement . “The Bieber thing, I don’t know if I’m allowed to mention it right now, but … I did a few songs with Far East Movement, and one of the songs … to me, it’s a smash,” he told us in his Los Angeles-area recording studio. “And Justin sang the chorus. It’s a really good song, and I think people are gonna dance like crazy to it.” While any other details about the project are top-secret, Red did praise the 17-year-old’s work ethic, maturity and musicality. “He’s very positive and he’s an amazing singer,” he said. “Amazing everything! He’s Justin Bieber. He’s a sensation. I think he’s becoming a man with his voice. He’s an incredible singer. So it’s not just the dance or the looks or the ‘Justin’ factor. He’s a real singer musician … He’s a real artist.” Currently, Bieber is busy recording his 2012 release, Believe, and there’s a chance RedOne could be involved in the album. But it will only happen if the twosome can cook up a choice track. “We’re trying to figure out some smashes together for his album,” he said. With RedOne’s part on the album still up in the air, there are plenty of other folks onboard with Bieber for the release, including producers Pharrell, Timbaland and will.i.am and rappers Drake and Lil Wayne . Believe will be released later this year. What are you hoping to hear from Justin’s new music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Justin Bieber Far East Movement

‘Glee’ Pays Tribute To Whitney Houston

Fox show remembers the late icon during Valentine’s-themed episode with Amber Riley’s rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You.’ By Jocelyn Vena Amber Riley on Tuesday’s episode of “Glee” Photo: FOX On Tuesday night, “Glee” paid homage to the late Whitney Houston . But Amber Riley’s soulful rendition of “I Will Always Love You” had already been on the docket for the Valentine’s-themed episode, titled “Heart,” long before Houston was found dead Saturday in her Los Angeles hotel room. While the song choice served to move along the plot — which revolved around the love triangle between Riley’s Mercedes and her two beaus, footballer Shane (LaMarcus Tinker) and fellow Gleek Sam (Chord Overstreet) — it was particularly stirring, considering its timing. Standing in a red gown, Riley stood alone on a stage with just a spotlight on her as she sang a pitch-perfect rendition of the song, a Dolly Parton track recorded by Houston for “The Bodyguard” soundtrack . While Riley sings, Overstreet stands in the back of the auditorium, acknowledging her tearful goodbye to him. Who covered “I Will Always Love You” better: “Glee” or the Grammys? The show’s producers acknowledged the icon’s loss with an “In Memoriam” slate that ran at the end of the episode, which simply read: “Whitney Houston 1963-2012. We will always love you.” The decision to acknowledge the singer’s death was made shortly after the news of her tragic and untimely death broke. “Obviously, we could not predict the unfortunate circumstances that happened this weekend,” “Glee” music supervisor P.J. Bloom told The Hollywood Reporter. “But at the same time, instead of focusing on the dark stuff, it’s nice to have an opportunity to hear her in this way and celebrate the magic that Whitney brought to this industry.” Riley opened up to E! News about meeting Houston on Thursday, at the pre-Grammy party where Whitney hit the stage with Kelly Price . “Whitney’s music meant so very much to me. I was very, very choked up when I heard about her passing. I just met her this past Thursday,” Riley said. “I’ve grown up listening to her voice ringing throughout our household. I’m so speechless. I can’t believe that she passed.” On Sunday, Jennifer Hudson performed the same song at the Grammy Awards , serving as a simple, emotional tribute to the singer. Adele’s 21 Ties Whitney Houston Chart Record

Houston’s Greatest Hits re-enters Billboard albums chart at #6 with only one day of sales after her death. By Gil Kaufman Adele Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images Grammy queen Adele will celebrate a career landmark next week when her Album of the Year-winning 21 matches a Billboard 200 chart record. The excitement will come with a tinge of sadness, though, as the remarkable 20th nonconsecutive week at #1 matches the high-water mark set by Whitney Houston ‘s “Bodyguard” soundtrack in 1992-93. In a tragic coincidence, Adele matched that mark in the same week that the “I Will Always Love You” singer was found dead Saturday at age 48 in her Los Angeles hotel room. The death came less than 24 hours before Adele scooped up six Grammys for 21, which will mark a full year on the charts during the next reporting cycle. Adele reached that mark with sales of 237,000 copies of her album, a 95 percent increase over the previous week, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The increase pushed the album past the 6.6 million mark in total sales, and experts predict that sales could double yet again next week in the wake of the Grammy triumph. There were plenty of other new faces in the almost all-new top 10, including reunited rock icons Van Halen , whose comeback album with original lead singer David Lee Roth, A Different Kind of Truth, will come in at #2 on sales of 187,000. Right behind was Now That’s What I Call Music! 41 (#3, 142,000), followed by Scars & Stories by The Fray , Paul McCartney ‘s covers album Kisses From the Bottom (#5, 74,000) and Houston’s resurgent Whitney: The Greatest Hits, which, within just one day of her death, climbed to #6 with sales of 64,000. The uptick represents a 10,419 percent gain over the previous week, when it moved just 1,000 copies. Country star Dierks Bentley ‘s Home debuted at #7 (55,000) and the 2012 Grammy Nominees album was at #8 (51,000). Adele’s debut, 19, jumped up 10 places to #9 as sales increased 103 percent to 36,000, and Drake ‘s Take Care rounded out the top 10 with sales of 32,000. Though the true Grammy bump won’t hit until next week, show performers Coldplay got an early boost, with sales of Mylo Xyloto up 105 percent to 28,000 as the album moved 14 spots to #14. It was a harsh second-week comedown for polarizing pinup crooner Lana Del Rey , though, as her debut, Born to Die, suffered a 62 percent drop, plunging 11 spots to #13 on sales of 29,000. Lil Wayne, Usher Help Romeo Santos ‘Revolutionize’ Bachata Music

‘It was the first time you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata,’ former Aventura frontman tells MTV News of single ‘Promise.’ By Christina Garibaldi Lil Wayne Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Romeo Santos , the former lead singer of the popular bachata group Aventura , has taken a new step in his career, venturing out on his own as a solo artist. Mixing his signature bachata flair with some R&B, he is showing fans a whole new side on his debut album, Formula, Vol. 1. Hoping to spread his unique sound and style to a mainstream audience, Santos enlisted Lil Wayne for his latest single, “All Aboard.” “This song ‘All Aboard,’ that tune allowed me to expand and kind of offer my audience something totally different because it’s not bachata — I’m singing English and that was really fun,” Santos recently told MTV News. “I was a little nervous about that, but people actually really accepted it.” Santos and Weezy recently shot the video for “All Aboard” in Miami; he called the clip “sexy,” “seductive” and “elegant,” but also revealed that this collaboration came very close to not making his album. “I was just like, I like the song but it’s missing something, and at first I couldn’t figure out what it was,” Santos said. “What we did was we left 16 bars open, and I was like, you know, who would rip this track? Lil Wayne. So we reached out. It barely made the album because he’s a busy dude, so he actually got on the record two months after we submitted it. It was like, if we don’t get his vocals in the next two days we hit, and we got it, so we made it and the song is just really great.” Wayne isn’t the only artist Santos pulled in for his album. On his last single, “Promise,” he teamed up with Usher , who last week joined him onstage at Santos’ first of three sold-out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden. “I felt at that moment once again I was going to revolutionize bachata ’cause it was the first time that you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata,” Santos said. “It was a big deal.” What do you think of Romeo Santos’ solo debut?
