Seal, Heidi Klum ‘Shocked’ By Marriage Ending

Singer opens up about his split from supermodel wife as he promotes his album Soul 2. By Jocelyn Vena As Seal preps the release of his album, Soul 2, he isn’t shying away from answering questions about his split from supermodel wife Heidi Klum . In two new interviews, the singer opens up about the breakup. “I think we were shocked,” Seal said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in an episode airing Tuesday (January 24). “You go into these things with the greatest intentions when you say ‘I do’ and you say ‘Till death do us part.’ Those vows hold value. They are not just words. These things happen. We pretty much said how we feel and made it clear in the release statement.” With regard to the fact that he’s still wearing his wedding ring, Seal added, “I think it’s just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman. We have eight years, eight wonderful years together. Just because we have decided to separate doesn’t necessarily mean you take off your ring and you’re no longer connected to that person. “We will be connected in many ways till the rest of our lives … through our children and also through this tremendous admiration, respect and love that we have for each other,” he continued. “Will we wear the ring for the rest of our lives? Who knows? But right now it feels really comfortable on my hand, so I have intentions of taking it off anytime soon.” In another interview for the PBS chat show “Tavis Smiley,” set to air on Friday, Seal continues to gush about his ex, and notes that the couple are hardly the first to have a much-publicized split. “In terms of our love and respect for each other, it hasn’t changed at all,” he says. “When two people feel that way about each other, it is easy — it is easier to make that transition. What one has to do in this situation is remain civil and to retain one’s dignity and to be professional and to understand that we are not the only people on this planet that go through this,” he said. “It is just unfortunately a chapter of life.” Were you surprised to hear that Heidi and Seal are splitting? Nicki Minaj Delays Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded

Young Money rapper softens the blow of sophomore album’s delay by premiering her ‘Stupid H–‘ video. By Nadeska Alexis Nicki Minaj Photo: Getty Images Back in November, Nicki Minaj announced that her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, would debut February 14, giving fans a little something extra to look forward to on Valentine’s Day. Now, there’s been a change of plans. Just a couple of hours after premiering the video for her latest single, “Stupid Hoe,” on Friday (January 20) Minaj announced that the album would be delayed until April. “New Album Date: April 3rd. Pink Friday: ROMAN RELOADED,” she wrote to her throngs of followers on Twitter . “But have no fear. Tons of surprises before then ;). Love Always, HB.” Fans weren’t thrilled to hear about the delay, but the new video for “Stupid Hoe” was enough to tide them over momentarily. In the colorful clip, directed by Hype Williams, Nicki is in full Barbie mode with bright makeup, her signature pink wig and prosthetic body parts, and she even gets a little ferocious, morphing into a caged tiger. With the sexy, bubblegum effect of the video, it’s almost easy to forget that the track throws a few harsh words at her female critics, most notably Lil’ Kim. When “Stupid Hoe” originally premiered in December, the song held the first clue that Minaj might perform at Super Bowl XLVI (“2012 I’m at the Super Bowl,” she raps), and the video confirms that suspicion. In the midst of the outrageous colors and special effects, the video cuts to a sign that reads “2012 Super Bowl,” which means the Young Money rapper will likely perform alongside headliner Madonna . After premiering the video, Minaj proceeded to retweet the overwhelmingly positive responses from her Barbz, who will likely be thrilled when she releases the album’s second video for “Roman in Moscow.” In December Minaj told MTV News that the visuals would set the stage for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. ” ‘Roman in Moscow’ is like a teaser to Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, ” Minaj said. “When I say it’s a teaser, it’s like a trailer to the movie, it’s like setting the stage, and I just wanted to touch the surface. It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. ” Did Nicki’s new video tide you over until the release of Roman Reloaded ? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Nicki Minaj

SOPA Anti-Piracy Bill Withdrawn

Congressman who proposed Stop Online Piracy Act pulled it just days after massive Internet protest. By Gil Kaufman Photo: Getty Images Two days after protesters staged a massive online blackout to protest the House of Representatives’ Stop Online Piracy Act, the Texas Congressman who proposed the bill withdrew the measure from consideration. In a statement released on Friday (January 20), Rep. Lamar Alexander announced that he was postponing consideration of the bill in light of concerns from critics who said it could lead to censorship of the Internet. “I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” Smith said in a statement, according to The Washington Post. “It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.” Alexander’s action came after more than 115,000 sites participated in Wednesday’s protest and Congressional support for the act — and its Senate doppelganger, PIPA — began to deteriorate. According to reports, before Wednesday’s action, SOPA/PIPA supporters outnumbered opponents 80 to 31, but within 24 hours of the online blackout the numbers had flipped to favor opponents 101 to 65. Holmes Wilson, the co-founder of the anti-SOPA group Fight for the Future, issued a statement in light of the postponements on Friday morning that read, “We sent the MPAA back to the drawing board. But any law that lets the copyright lobby block our websites, censor our search results, or cut off our PayPal accounts — without even going through a judge — will be soundly defeated.” As Alexander withdrew his act, Senate Democrat leader Harry Reid announced he would postpone a vote in the Senate scheduled for next week to re-think the measure’s wording in light of concerns from companies including Google and Wikipedia. “There is no reason that the legitimate issues raised by many about this bill cannot be resolved,” Reid said in a statement. “Counterfeiting and piracy cost the American economy billions of dollars and thousands of jobs each year, with the movie industry alone supporting over 2.2 million jobs. We must take action to stop these illegal practices. We live in a country where people rightfully expect to be fairly compensated for a day’s work, whether that person is a miner in the high desert of Nevada, an independent band in New York City, or a union worker on the back lots of a California movie studio.” The White house had already gone on record as not supporting the bills as currently written, saying that while it shares Congress’ concerns about online piracy, it will not sign off on legislation that “reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovated global Internet.” Editor’s note: Viacom, the home of MTV Networks, continues to be in support of SOPA.

50 Cent Wants To Release Back-To-Back Albums

50 tells Forbes he has ‘recorded so much material’ since last album in 2009. By Rob Markman 50 Cent Photo: Kristian Dowling/Getty Images 50 Cent may be fighting with his record label to release his oft-delayed fifth studio album, but that hasn’t stopped the G-Unit general from planning for his sixth LP. Still no word when G-Unit and Interscope will release Fif’s next album, but when they do, the get Rich or Die Tryin’ MC wants to hit the shelves again instead of hitting the road. “This time I’m not sure if I’ll tour the world like I did on my last project, ’cause it makes my album cycle two years long,” 50 told Forbes in a video interview. “So I think I’d like to launch this record and come right back and launch another record following it.” Releasing this fifth album has been a constant battle for 50. The rapper blasted Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre last summer, but later calmed his angst and made peace. Earlier this month, 50 took to Twitter and once gain blasted Interscope after a song slated for his album leaked onto the Internet. “I have lost all faith in the team I’m on,” he wrote. A few days later he backed down. “Discovered a computer glitch leaked my song,” 50 tweeted on January 8. “Sorry to team at Interscope for over reacting!” Whatever the holdup, there has been a noticeable gap between Fif’s retail releases. His last album, Before I Self Destruct, hit shelves in November 2009 and the Queens MC has amassed so many songs since then that he has enough for two projects. “It’s been three years since my last album, so I’ve recorded so much material that I’m really excited about trying to get those ideas to the general public so they get a chance to hear it and appreciate it,” he said. What do you hope to hear from 50 Cent’s much-anticipated fifth album? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: 50 Cent Related Artists 50 Cent

Vikter Duplaix: “The Evolution Of Jazz And DJing Are Similar!” [EXCLUSIVE]

Read more:

Vikter Duplaix is a jack of all trades in the music business. He’s a Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, multi-intsrumentalist, and DJ. After coming in second place on the first season of Master of the Mix , he made a return appearance as  judge alongside Kid Capri and Amber Rose . I caught up with him down in Atlanta where we discussed his forthcoming EP and album, why he was the hardest on the Master of the Mix contestants, and a not so nice review I wrote about one of his DJing sets. TUD: First, I remember you were talking about an album you had coming out. I think it was called Electric Love . VD: “Electric Love” was a single. Okay, that was a single. I thought that was the name of the album too. When is the album coming out? I’m still finishing it. I’m going to put out an EP called Arrival and then the album will come out later. Do you have a specific time when the album will come out? Nope. I have to to finish it. You can’t rush finishing perfection. I want this album to be perfect. You were on Master of the Mix both seasons. Last season, you were a contestant and this season you were a judge. How did it feel to go from one side of the judging table to the other? You know, it’s a lot more work as a contestant. It’s non-stop, 24 hours a day. The show doesn’t allow the contestants to get comfortable. The longer you have in the competition, the more time you have to relax, but in the beginning, the show always has you going from place to place. For me, as a judge, it was a lot less pressure. Would you say you were more sympathetic to the contestants considering you went through the same experiences last season? No. I think I was more critical of them because I didn’t buy into a lot of the excuses they would come up with. I think the challenges they had to do this year were more difficult than the ones I had to do when I was competing only because there were more people competing this time around. They really had no time to think. It was like, “Show us who you are. Okay, now do this crazy challenge.” Plus, the fact we kicked off two people at a time really shocked everybody. That made all the contestants very uncomfortable because they didn’t know what was coming next. There was a conversation about  whether or not vinyl was better than Serato. What are your thoughts on that? The MP3 programs are definitely a great tool. As a traveling DJ, if you’re not using cds or hard drives, you’re spending a lot of money. It’s expensive to carry a lot of records, to stay up with the new joints, and to prepare a set for all different types of people. I think, at the end of the day, vinyl argument is more of a nostalgia thing. It’s like when jazz purists got mad at Herbie Hancock for using synthesisers. He might inspire someone to learn the synthesiser, but if they learn on the synthesiser, they don’t necessarily know the feel of the piano keys and when the instrument needs to be tuned or something like that. The evolution of DJing is kind of similar to the evolution of jazz music. But I think you should embrace the technology too. But to some degree, when vinyl purists get mad over the Serato usage, does it feel a little like old people are trying to hold on to the cred they once had? Yeah, a little bit. Of course. There is that idea, but it’s very different. Let’s say you have a crate of records. I didn’t necessarily learn what all the covers looked like. I knew what the record sounded like and where I put them in my crate. Now you really need to know the name of the artist and the song title to put into your computer. There’s some fun in grabbing a record and popping it on. I have a question I’ve been wanting to ask you for a while. I saw you DJ at Summerstage for a Raphael Saadiq concert. I wrote a review about it and was basically saying I wasn’t feeling your set. When I tweeted the article, you retweeted it. I always wondered why you showed that article some love when I wasn’t showing you too much love in the piece. That show was a long time ago so I don’t remember it too well. It wasn’t all the way negative, was it? What didn’t you like about the set? The transitions bothered me. You put on  Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” and you cut it in the middle of the verse, but you didn’t slide right into the next record. It was a little dead space before the next song kicked in. Everybody else thought it was cool, but I just didn’t think so. The thing about it is a lot of times you have performances where you’re good and some when you’re bad. It’s all about maintaining the movement of the crowd. I would feel bad if you said that you were in the crowd and everybody was saying, “Get this dude off!” Then, I would feel terrible, but if there were moments that you liked and didn’t like, I mean I’m human.
