Amber Portwood Reunites With Daughter, Savors Release From Prison

Amber Portwood is now a free woman after spending 17 months behind bars. Not surprisingly, that freedom comes as a sweet relief to the mother of one. The first thing she did after her release from prison Monday was reunite with her four-year-old daughter, Leah, with whom she became famous on Teen Mom . For both girls, it was a long-awaited and joyful moment … Amber Portwood was famously sentenced to five years in an Indiana prison for violating probation in her drug possession case in the middle of last year. She was released years ahead of schedule for good behavior and time served. Step one after getting out? Hit up a burger joint called Frisch’s Big Boy for some real food. Step two? Visit the little angel who’s been living with her dad. Amber’s ex-fiance, Gary Shirley, currently has full custody of the toddler. She’s planning to seek shared custody now that she’s out, and depending on the progress she’s made, and the status of things with Gary, she could get it. They’ve had issues, but this isn’t Charlie and Brooke we’re talking about. The troubled Teen Mom star, who had a series of substance abuse issues and brushes with the law before prison, says she is now 100 percent sober . But can she stay clean and keep it that way? That’s the real question. We all hope so … but vote in our survey:   Yes! She’ll be a new woman! Not so sure about that. View Poll »

Amber Portwood to Be Released From Prison in November

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood’s prison stay is set to come to an end in November after just one year of a five-year sentence, a new report indicates. The 23-year-old mother of one has been working hard for early release – albeit after opting for jail over drug court and probation – and it looks promising. “I’m so excited and I’m really working hard studying so I can score high on the GED test,” Portwood said. “I’m working my ass off to get out of here!” Amber Portwood ’s brother, Shawn, confirmed the release with the Indiana Department of Corrections and tweeted about the good news this week. After spiraling out of control and being arrested numerous times for assault and drug possession, the MTV star failed to complete a drug rehab program. That was required based on her earlier arrests and probation violations, and eventually she threw in the drug court towel and decided to do time. Portwood has a 4-year-old daughter, Leah, with ex-fiance Gary Shirley, who has maintained custody of the young girl while she served her jail time. It’s unclear what the custody situation will be like upon her release. In any case, we’re happy to hear she’s pulling her life together, or at least heading in that direction, after years of setbacks and hitting rock bottom. Prison time AND loss of custody? Farrah Abraham and Jenelle Evans still have a ways to go before they can even touch the depths Amber reached. Seriously though Jenelle. Get a grip girl.

Kailyn Lowry Reveals Bipolar Disorder

Looks like Jenelle Evans and Amber Portwood have company. Kailyn Lowry of Teen Mom 2 recently revealed that she has bipolar disorder. “My mom is bipolar and it turns out I am too,” she said in a recent interview. Lowry discovered her diagnosis after deciding to go to counseling following a very heated argument with her new husband, Javi Marroquin, and his family. The details on their argument have not been discussed, but Kailyn wanted to offer a public mea culpa to Teen Mom 2 viewers and everyone involved. “I just want to publicly apologize in advance to my fans,” Kailyn said. “Even though Javi and I have moved on from this event, I want to say I’m sorry again to him and his family for letting my emotions get the best of me.” “I know how humiliating that is for them and I’m humiliated myself.” No one has yet seen the event she’s talking about, but it appears that we will at some point on Teen Mom 2, if she’s already apologizing for it in advance. Recently, reports surfaced that MTV canceled Teen Mom 2 in light of Jenelle becoming a major liability. Might Kailyn make their choice even easier? As for her bipolar diagnosis , Kailyn Lowry says she will soon be taking medication to help keep it under control. We wish her nothing but the best.

Farrah Abraham Plastic Surgery Pics: $16,000 Well Spent?

She’s not exactly Heidi Montag, but this isn’t our first Farrah Abraham plastic surgery article. The Teen Mom star is unabashed about going under the knife. Unlike Heidi, however, she’s pleased with the results: The 21-year-old received a $16,000 rhinoplasty and chin implant from plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer in Bal Harbour, Fla., on October 7. Money well spent? Abraham first had a boob job in 2011, going from an A to a C cup. “After having a baby, my boobs went away. It hurt my self-esteem,” she recalled last year. “I didn’t feel like I was woman enough anymore. I knew I could be happier. I think it’s helped my confidence and for me to feel more like a woman.” “Today, my boobs are perfect.” The original incarnation of Teen Mom ended in August 2012 after four seasons; it also starred Catelynn Lowell, Amber Portwood and Maci Bookout. Teen Mom 2 Season 3 premieres this month, while MTV is preparing to debut a new crop of youngsters: The Teen Mom 3 cast was recently unveiled. Time will tell if any of the newbies follow in Farrah’s footsteps.

Forget the Presidential Debate ?!? There was something far more combative on television last night: The X Factor Boot Camp, as 60 contestant sang once again for the judges, who will soon whittle this group down to 24. It was hard not to be taken with 13-year old Diamond White , who impressed last week with “It’s a Man’s World” and sparkles here with “I Have Nothing.” Yes, she went with Whitney. How do you think Diamond did? Diamond White – “I Have Nothing”

Gary Shirley Won’t Tell Daughter Amber Portwood is in Jail

Teen Mom Amber Portwood’s daughter has no idea her mother is serving time in an Indiana jail, because baby daddy Gary Shirley won’t tell her, he confesses. Portwood has been at Rockville Correctional Facility after she chose to give up a court-ordered drug rehabilitation program and was given a five-year sentence . “I haven’t been able to say that ‘Mommy’s in jail,’” Shirley said.  “When I tried to tell her, ‘Mommy’s in trouble,’ she got upset. So, I’ve said, ‘Mommy’s at work,’ or ‘on vacation.’” However, communication between Amber Portwood and Leah hasn’t been completely cut off. The pair do talk to one another over the phone from prison. Leah will say, “‘I miss you. When can I see you?’” Shirley revealed. “She actually said, ‘Can I come over to your house?’ I don’t really think Leah understands at all.” The situation has taken a toll on Gary as well. “I’m doing the best I can,” he confessed. “The last time I cried was two weeks ago. It’s so important to have help with Leah, and people aren’t always there. It’s very frustrating .” Despite his struggles, Gary hasn’t filled in the “complicated” paperwork to visit Amber in prison. Amber claims to have sent it, but feels he is simply afraid. “I try to give him excuses,” she said. Gary Shirley admitted he gets “stressed” and “depressed” and that “I’m sure one day Leah will see the show, or the kids at school will say stuff about us.” Very sad situation all around.

Amber Portwood on Staying Sober: It’s a Battle!

Amber Portwood is battling hard to stay sober. Hard as it is for the former Teen Mom star, she’s making progress in prison. Four months after choosing to serve a five-year jail term instead of completing a drug program, the 22-year-old admits she’s not normal but is turning a corner. Slowly. Painfully. “Right now I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing with my life,” Amber Portwood wrote in a statement read on the Teen Mom reunion show. “I guess I got lost.” “I went to jail because I had an addiction to opiates. You live and you learn and that’s real … I have to grow up quicker and start acting like a mother.” “My No. 1 priority right now in life is dedicating my life to being sober. And to show my daughter that people make mistakes but you can always come back.” In her case, she will come back in May 2017 (or perhaps sooner based on good behavior behind bars), thanks to her 2011 felony drug possession conviction. Here’s hoping whenever she gets out, she’s clean. For good.

Teen Mom Finale Recap: End of an Error

For Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell and Farrah Abraham, this chapter of their cartoonishly animated book of MTV life is over. The final episode of Teen Mom aired Tuesday night, marking the end of an era (error?) for the fab four who started it all on 16 & Pregnant . Where did they leave things as the curtain bowed? Let’s find out in our final Teen Mom +/- recap! Farrah Abraham finished her first quarter of school! With straight A’s! Plus 20 . She really missed Sophia, though, and made it clear she doesn’t want to send her away like that anymore. She cried about this a lot, as Sophia makes her very emotional. The little girl even noticed, calling her a “cry baby.” Plus 10 . “Mommy you’re a bad person.” – Sophia. Plus 50 . Have you seen Farrah’s “On My Own” music video ? That’s funnier and more revealing than anything a filler episode can really offer. Plus 50 . The drama with Tyler’s father starts to take its toll on the kid. He’s high strung and dropping f-bombs like a madman. Chill out, T! Minus 25 . His and Cate’s final story involves a dog dropping a deuce. Sums it all up right there. We love Cate and Ty, but time to move on. Minus 40 . Tyler Baltierra eventually sees a therapist and breaks down, which is a very sad moment but an empowering one at the same time. Plus 10 . “I don’t know why. I never did anything wrong so I don’t know why he doesn’t love me,” he said, before cutting Butch out for good. Plus 30 . Let’s hope April does the same. We’re skeptical. Minus 20 . All the tension between Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards continued boiling, but then the series kind of ended and not much was resolved there. Maci is pissed because Ryan gets Bentley for his b-day but she “spent 37 hours in the hospital pushing Bentley out of [her] hoo-hoo.” Plus 5 . Ryan is filing for joint custody and trying to block Kyle and Maci from living together since they’re not married … good luck with that. Minus 20 . Once he brought that up to his parents and girlfriend Dalis, she quickly said, “What if we decide to live together?” Light bulb? On. Plus 10. Who is Ryan kidding anyway. His mom does all the work. Guy’s come a long way since he abandoned Maci with a newborn, but custody? Please. Minus 40 . Maci gets a B on a test! OMG! Plus 15. Amber Portwood ‘s new guy friend, Mike, seemed like a nice guy but Gary didn’t care and hated him regardless. Way to be supportive. Minus 10 . Mike hilariously says Ambs is a real “sweetheart,” meaning he has almost certainly never seen an episode of Teen Mom in four years. Plus 20 . A huge argument went down when Gary decided to throw Leah a birthday party that Amber wasn’t allowed to go to, instead of waiting until after their court hearing to celebrate. Amber gets a lot of flak but this guy is no prize. Minus 30 . Gary apparently calls Amber “slut puppy.” Minus 70 . Of course, you know Amber and Gary. Within 10 minutes they’re back on good terms and going to court together, arm in arm. Sniff . Plus 25 . Ultimately, Gary got sole custody of Leah and the no-contact order was dropped. Seems like these two are really pulling it together! Plus 25. Oh, right. She’s in jail for the next five YEARS. Minus 100. EPISODE TOTAL: -95. SEASON TOTAL: -320.

Farrah Abraham Admits Drug Use, Depression, Suicide Plan in New Book

Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham recently felt so depressed that she considered suicide, she admitted in an interview while promoting her new book. “All I could think about was killing myself,” she says, and she even mapped out some specifics. “I figured I would drown myself in the bathtub.” “That seemed like the easiest way to go.” In My Teenage Dream Ended , the now-21-year-old single mother says her lowest point occurred two years after her daughter Sophia’s birth. Raising Sophia alone, coupled with the tragic death of her ex, Derek Underwood, in a car accident when she was pregnant, was too much to bear. “We hadn’t spoken in more than two months,” Farrah says about her ex-boyfriend, “but crazily I had still hoped we had a future together.” Before she was diagnosed with clinical depression, Farrah Abraham says she coped with her issues via alcohol, cocaine and marijuana abuse. Only after therapy and medication is she ” back on track .” “I was being selfish,” she says. “The most important thing is making sure that [Sophia’s] well taken care of – how am I going to do that if I’m dead?” A fair point. One that Amber Portwood , who’s allegedly tried to take her own life as well, should consider as she serves out her prison sentence.
