Kings Of Leon Have Never Been Shy About Alcohol

Past interviews have highlighted the band’s love of drinking. By Gil Kaufman Kings of Leon Photo: Getty In an era where most rock bands are about as edgy as the latest Ark Music Factory teen-sensation-in-a-box, Tennessee hell-raisers Kings of Leon have often stood out as a throwback to a messier era. The band of brothers (and cousin) raised by a Pentecostal preacher rose from humble beginnings to their current status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet thanks to dark, moody songs, good genes (and jeans) and a well-established reputation as boozing, brawling ladies’ men who’ve been only somewhat tamed by rock stardom. In recent times, it seemed as if those hellion days were behind them, as one by one the Followill boys have gotten engaged, married or into serious relationships and talked about dialing back the partying. Questions were raised, though, over the weekend when the Kings announced they were canceling the remainder of their U.S. tour due to singer Caleb Followill’s “vocal issues and exhaustion.” The news came after a disastrous show in Dallas during which Followill repeatedly complained about the heat and abruptly left the stage, at one point telling the crowd, “I’m gonna go backstage and I’m gonna vomit. I’m gonna drink a beer and I’m gonna come back out and play three more songs.” Though Caleb never returned to the stage, frustrated bassist Jared Followill later tweeted, “There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed. I can’t lie, there are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” The missive clearly made it seem as if some deeper issues than the heat were afoot. Looking back at interviews the band has conducted over the past few years, it’s clear that alcohol has long been a part of the fuel that helped the band navigate their rise to stardom — for good or ill. Whether it’s Jared jokingly telling MTV News that he was impressively good at “Rock Band” while drunk or Caleb suggesting that the band’s most recent CD, Come Around Sundown, “sounds better with a cocktail,” to which Jared replied, “Everything [is better with a cocktail],” the boys have not shied away from discussing their tippling. An April 2009 cover story in Rolling Stone magazine called “The God-Fearing, Booze-Swilling Rise of America’s Hottest Band,” in fact, opens with Caleb and brother drummer Nathan arriving home late one night in 2007 after a heavy night of drinking and getting into such a vicious fight that Caleb dislocated his shoulder and Nathan shattered a $7,000 mirror and then proceeded to repeatedly stab his brother’s mattress with a kitchen knife. The rest of the story has a number of other boozy moments, from Caleb’s drunk New York apartment shopping to a description of the light in the interior of their 75-acre Tennessee property “reflecting off the endless bottles of hard alcohol and wine that cover nearly every inch of counter space.” It notes that after Caleb met his wife, model Lily Aldridge , he gave up drinking whiskey and now sticks to “wine, beer and the occasional shot of tequila.” Though their well-documented love of spirits appears to be at least somewhat to blame for recent troubles, the RS story also mentioned that, like his preacher father, Caleb “suffers from nerves, and he regularly vomits during performances.” Caleb has not made any public statement about what ails him, but on Tuesday, he told TMZ he was focused on healing. “I’m just trying to get better,” he said. Asked if the band will still hit the road as planned in September for a string of Canadian shows, he replied, “I don’t know … we’ll see how it goes.” Related Artists Kings Of Leon

Britney Spears’ Tourmates Nervo Tease New ‘Club Records’

Aussie twins tell MTV News they haven’t strayed from dance music roots in spite of ‘amazing’ Femme Fatale Tour experience. By Akshay Bhansali Nervo Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images With Britney Spears ‘ flashy Femme Fatale Tour closing out its remaining North American dates later this month, it’s fair to say that many of Ms. Spears’ concert-going fans have gotten to know Olivia and Miriam Nervo pretty well. In fact, when Brit first announced her Femme Fatale lineup back in April, promising on her website, “Nervo will get everyone on the dancefloor,” dance music fans were ecstatic about the inclusion of the DJ/producer twins whose writing credits include a song for Spears and David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over.” MTV News recently caught up with the Australian sisters (and former models), and they told us that bussing across the States and sharing the stage with Nicki Minaj, Jessie and the Toy Boys, and Brit herself, has been a stellar opportunity. “We’ve definitely seen both the girls, [Britney and Nicki], and we interact with them,” Miriam, a.k.a. Mim, told us. “You are traveling to each city and you see the same people every day and it really becomes a family. So it’s been an amazing experience.” “It’s an amazing show,” Liv added. “The girls, the lineup really works well together. You’ve got Britney, who I think is looking the best she’s looked in a really long time and who really gives it her all on this tour. And then you’ve got Nicki, who definitely brings her edge to it. I’d never seen Nicki live, and I’m just so blown away. The girl can sing, rap — total respect to her!” As the Femme Fatale Tour winds down Stateside before heading to Europe, Nervo are now looking to expand the fanbase they’ve built in the U.S. But while Liv and Mim have been a part of what might be considered the mother of all pop music tours, the duo insist that they intend to remain true to their dance music and DJ roots. “When we signed the record deal, it was really important to us that we could take our DJing seriously and release club records,” Liv explained of their Astralwerks label. “Yeah, we want to be DJ artists,” Mim added. “That’s what we love so, luckily, we can release some club records alongside our Astralwerks album,” Liv said. “It just so happens that the Astralwerks single that we’re coming out with is with two major club guys: Afrojack and Steve Aoki . It’s called ‘We’re All No One.’ We love it!” While Liv and Mim do the singing on “No One,” the beats are delivered by hard-hitting EDM producer Aoki and David Guetta prot

Katie Price Reality Show: Coming to Fox?

Katie Price, a.k.a. Jordan, is a pretty big name in the UK. Best known for her work in reality TV, posing in her underwear, posing in less than her underwear, having kids and getting married a lot, the lingerie model has etched a permanent place for herself in the annals of British tabloid lore. But we here in the USA, she’s not that well known. Yet . Word has it that FOX is interested in a new reality show starring Jordan. It’s not really clear what Katie Price’s reality show entails, but she explains: It’s taken nearly a year to set this contract up. We’re thinking of doing the road trip from New York to Los Angeles. I want a big Priscilla-style van.” “You’ve got to make it fun. Cameras will be in the van. That’s what we’re working on. I’ll be in America in September and they’re trying to work it out. I’m not trying to be famous or massive, I’m just doing what I do.” What that is, we really don’t know. But sounds awesome. [Photo: WENN.com]

‘Twilight’ Studio Takes Legal Action In ‘Breaking Dawn’ Photo Leak

Summit Entertainment alleges a group in Argentina is behind leaked images. By Terri Schwartz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment When Robert Pattinson asks, he receives. Summit Entertainment released a press release Monday (August 1) announcing that it has tracked down some of the alleged people responsible for leaked images from the upcoming “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and has taken legal action. In the release, the production company said the March leak came from the town of Posadas in northern Argentina, but since there may be more people involved, the investigation is still ongoing. Specifically, Summit is identifying Daiana Santia as allegedly being involved in the group that stole the images and footage. Civil action has been filed in the U.S. and Argentina, while criminal action has also been filed in Argentina. The images released were from Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward’s (Pattinson) honeymoon scene and some of the final shots of the flick when Bella transforms into a vampire. When MTV News caught up with Pattinson shortly after the incident occurred, he was obviously very annoyed by the whole situation. “It’s just ridiculous. I literally can’t believe that it happened,” he said. “I want the ‘Twilight’ troops to mobilize, all the good fans, and find out who these little sh–s are and just hack into their computers and destroy them. … I’m being genuinely serious, ‘Twilight’ fans.” Summit hired law firm Keats McFarland & Wilson LLP to search four continents (North America, South America, Europe and Australia) to find the people behind what director Bill Condon called a “deeply upsetting” experience. Summit Executive Vice President David C. Friedman released a statement in the press release about the situation, saying that a strong fan community should not result in property theft. “While we very much appreciate the legions of committed fans of the franchise and encourage them to create community online, we cannot ignore that property was stolen,” he said. “It is not fair to the majority of fans that want to see the final chapter of the ‘Twilight Saga’ film franchise fully realized by the filmmaker and dedicated cast and crew to have these images out and available on the Internet.” In the earlier MTV News interview, Pattinson said the people involved in the incident could not even be considered fans. “It’s raw footage; it’s not even what people are going to see,” he said “Why do this maliciously? You’re not a fan. You’re just a di–.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Kings Of Leon Reschedule Show After Caleb Followill’s ‘Heat Exhaustion’

Announcement came after Friday show was cut short when Followill abruptly left the stage. By James Montgomery Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill (file) Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images The Kings of Leon were forced to bring a Friday-night show in Dallas to an abrupt end after frontman Caleb Followill complained of voice problems and then told the crowd at the Gexa Energy Pavilion, “I’m gonna go backstage and I’m gonna vomit. I’m gonna drink a beer and I’m gonna come back out and play three more songs.” Followill then left the stage and never returned, leading his bandmates to apologize to the crowd, saying, “Caleb’s just a little unfit to play the rest of the show. … It’s really not our fault, it’s Caleb.” Immediately following the incident, KOL bassist Jared Followill took to his Twitter account to further apologize and hinted at a growing strife within the band, writing, “There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed … I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” In YouTube footage of the Friday show, Caleb Followill is seen engaging the crowd in several lengthy diatribes, urging them to help him sing the words because his voice was “100 percent gone,” and adding, “I’m gonna drink some beer and I’m gonna drink some tequila and I’m gonna have a f—ing good time.” He also made repeated references to the heat, saying, “Just for the record, I’m not drunk, I’m just f—ing hot. … I’m about to fall down over here, because I’m so daggum hot.” In the aftermath of the Dallas show, the band announced they were postponing a Saturday concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston, claiming that Followill was suffering from “heat exhaustion and dehydration … [which caused] his vocal chords to seize.” The Houston show was rescheduled for September 22, and the band said they would return to Dallas on September 21 and that all tickets from the aborted show would be honored. “Kings of Leon apologize to their fans for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to seeing their fans again in September,” the statement concluded. There’s no word on whether the band’s Tuesday show in Tampa would go on as scheduled. A spokesperson for the band did not have any additional comment when contacted by MTV News. ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Set Pics Show Bane, Batman In Action

Photos of Marion Cotillard hint that her character is more than just a ‘board member.’ By Aubrey Sitterson Christian Bale and Tom Hardy film “The Dark Knight Rises” on July 31, 2011 Photo: Jared Wickerham/ Getty Images While we’ve had our fair share of superhero flicks in 2011, next year is when the big boys are coming out to play, with Joss Whedon’s “Avengers” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” hitting theaters in the summer of 2012. After the credits of “Captain America: The First Avenger,” fans got an official sneak peek at “The Avengers,” and now we have our first clear look at “The Dark Knight Rises” (following an obscure first trailer) , via a series of photos from the set in Pittsburgh over the weekend. While seeing Christian Bale all suited up and ready for action isn’t quite as exciting as it was the first or second time around, he’s looking as hard and utterly badass as ever. Though the suit looks a little different in the clear white light of day opposed to Nolan’s stylized cinematography, it’s practically the same as the one used in “The Dark Knight.” The real attraction in these photos, however, is the guy Batman’s fighting: Tom Hardy’s Bane . When Hardy was first cast in the role, there were some mixed feelings in the fan community. While he’s a fantastic actor and proved that he can be terrifyingly menacing in “Bronson,” even when the British thespian’s all muscled up, he doesn’t exactly resemble a humongous Latino man. And in the previously released photo of Bane , we only saw his hulking form from behind. Those concerns should be put to rest with these photos, however, because while Bale’s Batman clearly has the height advantage on Hardy’s Bane , there’s also a fantastic shot of the shorter, stockier actor overpowering the Dark Knight himself as snow flurries around them. We’re a little disappointed that the character is lacking Bane’s singlet and lucha mask, but the more military-influenced attire fits perfectly into Nolan’s Batman universe. The photos also give us a clear look at Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate . While she’s been described as a “Wayne Enterprises board member,” it looks like her character will also see some action, prowling the streets with heavily armed men and even climbing on top of the “Tumbler” Batmobile. Batman’s ride has received a makeover , eschewing the classic black for a paintjob that looks a lot like desert camouflage, which raises questions about how it will fit into the fake snow-covered landscape of Gotham City (or Pittsburgh, for that matter). Take a look at the photos yourself and make sure to tell us about anything significant we might have missed in the comments below!
