Justin Bieber doesn’t know what ‘German’ means [video]

I've never heard a Justin Bieber song or watched one of his videos but simply because of his ubiquity in Twitter's Trends, I've taken a disliking to the guy and felt ever so slightly guilty about it. After all, he's just a young boy and it's not his fault people talk about him. Something he can be blamed for, with guilt-free, cathartic judgement, is the fact he doesn't know what 'German' means. Even when shown the word on a card, he has absolutely no idea what it might describe though he does brilliantly explain his ignorance away by saying “Huh? We don't say that word in America”. Bieber, you idiot! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW_WMTUTZZ0 added by: richjm

Rep. Alan Grayson Introduces the "War Is Making You Poor" Act | | AlterNet

The bill would cut the DoD's budget and use that money to make the first $35,000 each American earns tax-free. May 23, 2010 | Last week, as Congress prepared to pass yet another “emergency” spending bill to cover America’s costly operations in Iraq and Afghanistan — to the tune of $159 billion this time around — Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, introduced a bill that would force the Pentagon to pick up the tab out of its ample regular budget. The War Is Making You Poor Act is elegant in its simplicity. Instead of financing these longstanding conflicts outside of the regular budgeting process, where they’re not factored into deficit projections, Grayson’s bill would make the DoD work within its means, and the money would instead be used for an across-the-board tax cut that would make the first $35,000 each American earns tax-free. “The purpose of this bill,” wrote Grayson last week, “is to connect the dots, and to show people in a real and concrete way the cost of these endless wars.” It’s not just the costs of active shooting wars; with hundreds of bases overseas, as far as the defense budget is concerned Americans have been on a permanent wartime footing, to varying degrees, since Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941. “War is a permanent feature of our societal landscape,” wrote Grayson, “so much so that no one notices it anymore.” The bill already has several co-sponsors, including at least two Republicans (albeit maverick GOPers Ron Paul of Texas and Walter Jones of South Carolina). But since the Pentagon would have to take money out of its regular budget — largely from the budget for newfangled hardware — the DoD and influential defense contractors will no doubt fight it tooth-and-nail. But the War Is Making You Poor Act might have a major impact on our national dialogue regardless. It highlights in a visceral way what Americans lose by privileging money for guns over butter. “The costs of the war have been rendered invisible,” wrote Grayson. “There's no draft. Instead, we take the most vulnerable elements of our population, and give them a choice between unemployment and missile fodder. Government deficits conceal the need to pay in cash for the war.” Grayson’s measure might just shine a bright light on those “opportunity costs.” Budgeting is all about priorities, and the bill can raise public awareness of that fact. The Right has done a remarkable job convincing the American public that tax dollars used for programs that help the middle class or the poor are dollars “taken out of your pocket,” but no such consideration is given to the trillions spent on financing our military operations. That was apparent during the recent debate over the Affordable Care Act, when Republicans, Blue Dog Democrats and most of the media focused relentlessly on the costs of the bill, and its likely impact on future deficits. No such discussion took place when the invasion of Iraq was being debated. Grayson’s bill makes the same appeal to self-interest the conservatives have used to often devastating effect to oppose everything from Medicare to public education. It says: “We can pay for these wars, or we can make them take it out of the defense contractors’ hides and get our first $35K tax-free.” added by: Monkey_Films

Toxic Oil Spill Rains Warned Could Destroy North America

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers A dire report prepared for President Medvedev by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources is warning today that the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico is about to become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with “total destruction”. Russian scientists are basing their apocalyptic destruction assessment due to BP’s use of millions of gallons of the chemical dispersal agent known as Corexit 9500 which is being pumped directly into the leak of this wellhead over a mile under the Gulf of Mexico waters and designed, this report says, to keep hidden from the American public the full, and tragic, extent of this leak that is now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day. The dispersal agent Corexit 9500 is a solvent originally developed by Exxon and now manufactured by the Nalco Holding Company of Naperville, Illinois that is four times more toxic than oil (oil is toxic at 11 ppm (parts per million), Corexit 9500 at only 2.61ppm). In a report written by Anita George-Ares and James R. Clark for Exxon Biomedical Sciences, Inc. titled “Acute Aquatic Toxicity of Three Corexit Products: An Overview” Corexit 9500 was found to be one of the most toxic dispersal agents ever developed. Even worse, according to this report, with higher water temperatures, like those now occurring in the Gulf of Mexico, its toxicity grows. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in discovering BP’s use of this dangerous dispersal agent ordered BP to stop using it, but BP refused stating that their only alternative to Corexit 9500 was an even more dangerous dispersal agent known as Sea Brat 4. The main differences between Corexit 9500 and Sea Brat 4 lie in how long these dangerous chemicals take to degrade into their constituent organic compounds, which for Corexit 9500 is 28 days. Sea Brat 4, on the other hand, degrades into an organic chemical called Nonylphenol that is toxic to aquatic life and can persist in the environment for years. A greater danger involving Corexit 9500, and as outlined by Russian scientists in this report, is that with its 2.61ppm toxicity level, and when combined with the heating Gulf of Mexico waters, its molecules will be able to “phase transition” from their present liquid to a gaseous state allowing them to be absorbed into clouds and allowing their release as “toxic rain” upon all of Eastern North America. Even worse, should a Katrina like tropical hurricane form in the Gulf of Mexico while tens of millions of gallons of Corexit 9500 are sitting on, or near, its surface the resulting “toxic rain” falling upon the North American continent could “theoretically” destroy all microbial life to any depth it reaches resulting in an “unimaginable environmental catastrophe” destroying all life forms from the “bottom of the evolutionary chart to the top”. Note: For molecules of a liquid to evaporate, they must be located near the surface, be moving in the proper direction, and have sufficient kinetic energy to overcome liquid-phase intermolecular forces. Only a small proportion of the molecules meet these criteria, so the rate of evaporation is limited. Since the kinetic energy of a molecule is proportional to its temperature, evaporation proceeds more quickly at higher temperatures. As over 50 miles of the US State of Louisiana’s coastline has already been destroyed by this spill, American scientists are warning that the damage may be impossible to repair, and as we can read as reported by the Associated Press News Service: “The gooey oil washing into the maze of marshes along the Gulf Coast could prove impossible to remove, leaving a toxic stew lethal to fish and wildlife, government officials and independent scientists said. Officials are considering some drastic and risky solutions: They could set the wetlands on fire or flood areas in hopes of floating out the oil. They warn an aggressive cleanup could ruin the marshes and do more harm than good.” And to understand the full import of this catastrophe it must be remembered that this disaster is occurring in what is described as the “biologically richest waters in America” with the greatest amount of oil and toxic Corexit 9500 set to come ashore in the coming days and weeks to destroy it completely for decades to come. Reports are also coming from the United States that their government is secretly preparing to evacuate tens-of-millions of their citizens from their Gulf of Mexico States should the most dire of these scientific warnings start to come true. To the greatest lesson to be learned by these Americans is that their government-oil industry cabal has been just as destructive to them as their government-banking one, both of which have done more to destroy the United States these past couple of years than any foreign enemy could dare dream was possible. But to their greatest enemy the Americans need look no further than their nearest mirror as they are the ones who allowed these monsters to rule over them in the first place. www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1374.htm

Ronald McDonald Continues To Be The Icon For McDonald Restaurants

The United States drive for a healthier America wants Ronald McDonald to retire for it promotes unhealthy eating and lifestyle among people. Ronald McDonald is the famous clown character used as the primary mascot of the McDonald’s fast-food restaurant chain. McDonald’s Corporation Chief Executive Officer Jim Skinner voiced out that Ronald McDonald won’t be in for retirement. “The answer is no,” Skinner told a room full of shareholders who gathered for a meeting at the company’s headquarters in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Illinois. “He is a force for good,” Skinner said, adding that the nearly 50-year-old clown is an ambassador for the McDonald’s brand and its Ronald McDonald House of Charities. “He communicates effectively with children and families around balanced, active lifestyles. He does not hawk food.” Shareholders applauded Skinner. And they unleashed a chorus of boos when representatives from the advocacy group Corporate Accountability International requested the famous icon be shelved – for good. Megan Fox ‘Transformers 3’ Replacement Options: An Evaluation

We take a closer look at the names floating around to step into Fox’s shoes. By Eric Ditzian Gemma Arterton Photo: Dave M. Benett/ Getty No sooner did news break that Megan Fox had parted ways with “Transformers 3” than the rumor mill started to churn with possible replacements for the displaced 24-year-old actress. Both TheWrap.com and AintItCoolNews.com have published reports from unnamed sources floating names of potential new love interests for Shia LaBeouf, from Gemma Arterton to Bar Refaeli to Zoe Saldana. So which one is the best fit? Let’s run down the list and see. Gemma Arterton Pros : The Wrap contends she’s the front-runner. Makes sense, in that she’s not only drop-dead gorgeous, but has experience with big-budget action flicks. In April, she appeared in “Clash of the Titans,” and her starring turn in “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” will hit the big screen later this month. Cons : Blockbuster fatigue. Will she be eager to dive into a third mega-budget production? And will audiences want to keep seeing the same actress in blockbuster after blockbuster? Bar Refaeli Pros : There’s no doubting the Israeli-born Sports Illustrated swimsuit model has what Bay desires in terms of looks. And perhaps boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio can give her some acting tips. Cons : She has next to no experience. Her sole film credit is as the star of a small, upcoming psychological thriller called “Session.” Zoe Saldana Pros : She’s beautiful, a first-rate actress and has no problem kicking ass on the big screen. Cons : Like Arterton, Saldana already has two big franchises on her r
